In terms of price, Renault Logan surpasses Lada Kalina 2 by at least $1000.
When choosing between Logan and Kalina 2, you need to carefully compare the disadvantages and positive features of each car. The Russian model costs less and is therefore more economically profitable. The minimum set of options in the Kalina 2 configuration is offered for $7,500, and the maximum for $10,000. The price level for the 2014 Renault Logan is set at $8,000 – $11,000.
Compared to its competitor, Renault Logan captivates potential buyers with its comfortable and spacious interior, high level of handling, as well as noise insulation characteristics. Two factors may raise doubts about purchasing a Logan model: the price of a new car and the cost of consumables for undergoing regulated maintenance.
But for Kalina, maintenance will be budget-friendly: the model was designed in Tolyatti, so the domestic iron horse will be repaired at any maintenance base, and you won’t even have to wait long for parts. In addition, the ground clearance of Kalina 2 is much greater - this is important for driving on domestic roads. They cite many reasons for this, for example, a pronounced radiator grille or an elongated body. However, Lada is practically not inferior to its competitor in this indicator. During its development, the latest fashion trends were assessed, so the specialists managed to select an attractive appearance.
Road lighting
In its standard configuration, the Lada is somewhat disappointing with its running lights. They do not provide strong enough illumination, so in bad weather the driver gets a little lost. A person must understand that for the sake of convenience, after purchase, he should think about a replacement.
From this point of view, Renault Logan exceeds all expectations, since its running lights are perfect for any weather. Lada Kalina is a small car. Its dimensions speak about this. At the same time, in the so-called “family version” body version - a station wagon, the car has a length dimension not exceeding 4.104 m. This car has a ground clearance of almost 190 mm. This parameter is quite rare on foreign-made cars. In the usual version, the ground clearance is less significant - only 160 mm.
If we compare, the latest Renault Logan model is 300 mm longer than the LADA Kalina, and the ground clearance is a modest 160 mm. But by compensating for the difference, the designers managed to expand the capacity of the luggage compartment of the car. On a domestic car this parameter is 335 liters, while on a brand new Renault it is almost 500 liters. Although, if you fold out the rear row of seats, the Lada’s trunk capacity will increase to 670 liters.
A comparison of power units, in terms of which is better, shows that VAZ-made engines with a capacity of 87 hp. and 98 hp respectively, engines from Renault produce 87 hp. and 102 horses. The Russian car has a 16 and 8 valve engine design. At the same time, the transmission has five gears and is only mechanical. No other options are provided. For many, this will become an argument in the question of what to choose.
Car enthusiasts who prefer the French sedan have more options for alternatives. Renault Logan can be equipped with engines of 1.4 liters and 1.6 liters with 8 and 16 valves, respectively. Refueling can be done on any engine with either 92 or 95 gasoline. The car is also quite economical, which is very good when compared with its competitors.
In addition to manual transmission, the Frenchman also has an automatic transmission. In addition, starting from the second generation, in a number of models on the box you can find a decent robot that has artificial intelligence.
Budget about 20,000 rubles and a difficult choice: logan or kalina cross?

Kalina Cross is a station wagon with better interior transformation capabilities and a more convenient trunk for transporting large items. True, the compact dimensions of the body predetermine the small volume of the cargo compartment (only 355 liters to the curtain). And there is a little less space for rear passengers than in Renault. In other words, the Lada is not as spacious initially, but the interior transformation capabilities are better.
The main differences between the Cross version and just Kalina are the body kit and the ground clearance increased to 183 mm. Under normal operating conditions, this is just a matter of aesthetics. But if you often drive off asphalt onto broken dirt roads, high ground clearance can be a good help.
In terms of power units, both models are close. In both cases, buyers are offered a choice between 8- and 16-valve versions of the 1.6-liter engine. In the case of Lada it is 87 or 106 hp, in the case of Renault - 82 and 102/113 hp. Accordingly, the dynamics and fuel efficiency of similar versions are comparable.
The question does not mention the type of transmission, but we can assume that it is a manual transmission. In both cases, a 5-speed manual transmission is offered. In addition, Logan can be purchased with a 4-speed automatic transmission, and Kalina Cross with a 5-speed AMT robotic transmission with one clutch.

We have repeatedly tested both the basic Kalina and its Cross version, as well as the second generation Logan, so we have the opportunity to compare both cars as a whole. So, in general, Logan is better. It is perceived as a European car, albeit a cheaper one.
Yes, it is noisy and “gluttonous”, with peculiar ergonomics, but stable workmanship and a well-tuned chassis. In the case of Lada, each car is a little individual: in one the transmission howls more, in another it is quieter, in one the steering wheel is “transparent” in reactions and has clear feedback, in another it returns to zero reluctantly. And in small details Kalina is inferior to Logan.

A comparable engine and slightly better equipped (with side airbags, remote engine start system) Logan in the Luxe version will cost 24,300 rubles. And in order to stay within the “plus or minus 20 thousand rubles”, you will have to abandon the 16-valve engine and choose a simpler configuration.
At best, it will be a Privilege for 20,900 without a heated windshield, climate control and parking sensors. On the other hand, Logan can be purchased in its simplest version for only 18,000 rubles. (and taking into account current discounts, even for 17,000), while the price list for Kalina Cross “starts” at 19,290 rubles.

Loan rates, although they have become lower, are, objectively speaking, still very high, which is especially noticeable when repayment periods are long. On the other hand, a “long” loan allows you to get a small monthly payment, and options with preferential rates in the first year and the possibility of early repayment make it possible to reduce the amount of overpayment if you pay off the loan as quickly as possible.
In any case, when choosing a program and in general when deciding to use a particular financing instrument, you should not only objectively assess your capabilities, but also carefully study all the terms of the loan, leasing or installment plan agreement that is offered to you in order to accurately understand what This is exactly what it will cost to buy a car using this scheme.

However, the difference was less than 10%, so it can be considered insignificant. The cost of body parts and optics will vary significantly, and with a few exceptions, not in favor of a foreign car. In general, if in the case of Kalina you can still take a risk, then for Logan it is better to immediately apply for Full CASCO!
If we talk about servicing on our own, then both models are quite simple, there is nothing complicated. Logan II represents an evolutionary development of the previous model. The car was originally developed for markets in developing countries; it is accordingly simple and well adapted to difficult operating conditions.
The B0 platform uses time-tested components that were used on models of the 1990s. In turn, Kalina II is an evolution of the previous model, and it is based on technologies that were used on front-wheel drive models of the first generation VAZ-2108/09/099.
Reliability? Logan's fame as an "indestructible" car is somewhat exaggerated, and modern Ladas are much better than the opinion about them. If you buy a car new and operate it competently, for the first 5-6 years and 100-150 thousand km everything will come down to scheduled maintenance and replacement of worn-out consumables; if you’re not very lucky, to a couple of warranty cases. Also, Lada can be annoying with a lot of small troubles, but in big ones it should look no worse than Renault.
We'll talk about engines and gearboxes separately. Regardless of the number of valves, VAZ engines on Kalina II do not forgive a broken timing belt. Consequences - the pistons “meet” the valves, damaging the latter. In addition, there are cases where connecting rods and even the cylinder head were damaged.
So it’s better not to miss the deadline for replacing the timing drive, change the rollers along with the belt, as well as the pump, use only high-quality parts. Let us repeat: there are many spare parts on the market for VAZ cars of frankly low quality, so the issue of choosing manufacturers and sellers should be taken seriously.
Despite the modernization, the gearbox still likes to “noise”, but this does not affect reliability in any way. During active driving (especially in conjunction with a more powerful 16-valve engine), the second gear synchronizers wear out prematurely, making it difficult to engage this gear. With long runs, the shaft bearings may get tired.
The Renault K7M 8-valve engine has the reputation of being “eternal”. It is based on the 1.4-liter K7J (Clio, Kangoo, etc.), first used in the mid-1990s on the Renault Megane/Scenic. A cast-iron block, an aluminum head, a small degree of boost and the absence of additional systems such as a variable valve timing system or individual ignition coils make this engine simple and unpretentious, and most importantly, durable: the service life actually exceeds 400 thousand km!
On versions with manual transmission, the 16-valve K4M (102 hp) is still installed, and on cars with “mechanics” from 2022 - the H4M engine (aka Nissan HR16DE) with an aluminum block and timing chain drive. The life of the chain is approximately 130-150 thousand km, then it stretches, the valve timing is lost, so this timing drive cannot be called eternal.
One more nuance: replacing spark plugs requires dismantling the throttle valve assembly and the plastic intake manifold, which complicates (and increases the cost of) an otherwise ordinary operation. This engine is no longer considered “eternal”, but it definitely reaches its 300-350 thousand km. After 5-7 years and 70-80 thousand km, the throttle valve may need to be cleaned.
In terms of corrosion resistance, both models are average; without proper care, after 5-6 years the bodies will suffer from rust. However, for the first few years, the factory anticorrosive agent copes well with protection. The galvanized body of Logan resists corrosion well when chips occur, but Kalina can “bloom,” so a control inspection and prompt touch-up of damaged areas are required.
What's the result? In terms of maintenance costs, both models are approximately at the same level, so when choosing, we would recommend focusing on other parameters. For example, which car suits you best in terms of passenger and cargo capabilities, you will like it more during a test drive.
And only after that should you take into account the difference in the cost of cars. Kalina Cross is cheaper, so you can either save on the purchase or buy a Lada with a better level of equipment and a more powerful engine for the same money. Or it may happen that only after “trying on” the car you will understand that it is better to pay extra and still take the more expensive Logan.

Lada Kalina is one of the first creations of VAZ, which can be compared with a certain class of foreign cars. This is the first product of the concern, which received an extraordinary appearance, engines that have become an order of magnitude better and meet European standards, and, of course, options that are inherent only in more expensive representatives of foreign concerns.
Renault Logan is a compact sedan that appeared in the second half of the 2000s as a car best suited for use for personal purposes and for work. As a result, the car turned out to be extremely cheap, which brought it wild popularity and a well-deserved position at the top of the list of the most purchased models in Russia.
To its credit, Kalina and Logan have comparable looks. Lada has a pleasant, rounded shape and looks quite harmonious. It cannot be said that VAZ’s product has a catchy appearance, but the car does not seem at all clumsy and pretentious, which can be said about some representatives of foreign production.
In addition to the station wagon, this car, since the release of the second generation of the model, has a Cross version, which is better suited for off-road driving, has greater ground clearance, and also boasts extremely practical moldings around the wheel arches and bumpers.
There is, perhaps, nothing to oppose the model from Renault to the Cross version, which is produced in the VAZ workshops. Logan does not have hatchback or station wagon variations, so owners can only be content with the advantages of a sedan. The appearance of the first generation car turned out to be angular and clumsy, the proportions were not chosen in the most successful way.
The same cannot be said about the second generation of the Frenchman. Here the designers did a great job, and the world saw a truly beautiful and stylish car, which is not a shame to appear even on the streets of a large metropolis. The appearance here has become an order of magnitude better than before.
The interior of the model has also undergone many changes, and now it is many times superior to the VAZ passenger car. True, both models still have cheap and hard plastic in their finish, but at this price it’s not very reasonable to complain about it.

These devices in both Nissan Almera and Renault Logan cars are significantly different. Rich versions of Logan have full-fledged radios that keep up with the frantic rhythm of modern fashion in the field of electronic media. The audio complex control buttons are conveniently located on the steering rim.
If you compare, the radio in Nissan is the exact opposite. It upsets owners with its inability to play programs in the long-used MP3 format. General technical information
Lada Kalina has experienced a generation change. It was in August 2022 that the presentation of the second generation of the model took place. Production started only in May 2022, and in the summer the car began to be sold through official dealers.
Lada Kalina 2 is built on the AvtoVAZ platform 2190, but it has been significantly modernized. The front suspension is independent with classic MacPherson struts. When considering the dynamics of Kalina 2 and Renault Logan, one can highlight their similarities. Both cars reach the acceleration mark to the first hundred in 13 seconds. To objectively compare the dynamic characteristics of representatives of the models under consideration, cars with manual transmissions were used. In addition, the technical indicators declared by the automaker corresponded to the actual indicators.
The Renault Logan drives over uneven surfaces more confidently. Logan also earns extra points in soundproofing. A distinct noise usually occurs only with a dynamic increase in speed from 3500 per minute. The sound from the running engine of Kalina 2 gives it away already at idle.

The next stage of discussion should be the interior, since this is what is important for all family drivers. It must be said that Kalina 2 immediately disappoints the population, because only a couple of passengers can easily fit in the back seat. The one extra person becomes a problem, preventing everyone else from riding comfortably. Although even a large man does not limit himself in the front passenger seat, which became an important choice on the part of the designers.
The widespread Logan, on the contrary, gives more freedom in the back seat. Even three people feel comfortable, so the trip turns into a pleasure for them. But in the front seat, a foreign car is unlikely to allow you to relax. To do this, you will have to move completely back, and this is wrong.

The engine lives up to its stated power—acceleration is brisk. It's a pity that after 4000 rpm his enthusiasm sours. The gears are selected well, the shifting mechanism is quite accurate - no problems. And everything is not bad with the brakes (Lifan was the only one in the test with rear disc mechanisms). The mediocre information content of the drive prevented us from receiving a higher rating.
The X50 is not afraid of broken roads, except that the vibrations transmitted to the steering wheel are too much. But you need to be careful: the engine oil pan and the gearbox housing are not covered with anything. And actively turning the steering wheel is contraindicated - during the test, the front wheels repeatedly clung to the arches.

Logan is a representative of the French brand. The first copies of the now popular cars were produced in 2012.
