The interior of the “nine” turned out to be extremely practical. At the same time, the developers managed to increase comfort indicators. The car now has a “low” instrument panel, which has become more convenient. The front seats received headrests, and the upper belt attachment points were height-adjustable. Upholstery with inserts and optional fabric seats added to the model's prestige. The folded rear seats made the VAZ-2109 look like a station wagon. The cabin had ventilation and heating systems.

The first modernization of the car took place in 1989. The front part of the body has been slightly refined. The entire restyling consisted of a transition to “long” front wings, replacing the “short” version. In 1990, the model received a new 1.5-liter engine (72 hp). The modernized version was called VAZ-21093. It was this modification that became the most popular. By the mid-1990s, 1.1- and 1.3-liter engines were excluded from the line of power units. The engines were combined with 5-speed gearboxes.

The next restyling of the model took place in 1995. They stopped melting the radiator grille. The last cosmetic improvement of the VAZ-2109 happened in 1997. The car has not changed again.

Important! Often, car enthusiasts confuse PCD values ​​due to a difference of just a couple of mm. VAZ 2103-2106

Wheels of the new model were installed on the “three”. In terms of appearance, they are close to the Fiat wheels used on the 2101 version. They have 16 round holes each with an increased rim width of up to 9.5 inches and a reduced offset of up to 29 mm.

Similar models were used for the VAZ 2103 and VAZ 2106 cars. At the same time, chrome caps from a penny were installed on the 2103 versions, and the original ones were used on the six, which were distinguished by a round black trim in the center.

Initially, for the 2106 model, manufacturers planned to use other versions of disks. However, the intended angular style echoed the design of trendy aluminum (alloy) wheels, so they decided not to use them.

On car releases in 1991, wheel covers from model 2101 were used on rims. Since 1995, developers have removed the protrusions for the hubcaps and began producing rims similar to 2103 for all VAZ car models.

To install the disc on the 5 and 7 Zhiguli model with a chrome cap, the diameter of the centering hole was increased to 60.5 mm. Note that such wheels from 2103 without classic protrusions have become a “national treasure” for the entire AVTOVAZ line.

If you have chosen 14-diameter wheels, you can use tires in two sizes: 175/65 and 185/60. These tire sizes have been tested in practice more than once, but if you want to see for yourself the plausibility, you can easily calculate the size yourself. Let's imagine the calculation procedure for a VAZ-2109 with standard 175/70 R13 wheels.

Initial data for calculation: tire width – 175 mm; profile height – 70; diameter - 13 inches. First, multiply the width by the height: 175 * 0.70 = 122.5 mm. Second number: 13 (disc diameter) * 25.4 = 330 mm. The permissible wheel diameter is obtained by adding the disk diameter and the profile height, multiplied by two: 330 + 122.5 * 2 = 575 mm.

You can do the same with larger wheels. So, for example, an R14 with 175/65 tires has a total diameter of 583 mm, and with 185/60 tires – 577 mm. As can be seen from the indicators, 185/60 tires are more consistent with the design of the car, and therefore we recommend using them.

In addition, such tires are wider, which means they have a larger contact area with the road, which increases friction and reduces the braking distance of the car.

Also, wide tires increase the overall handling of the car and reduce the tendency of the tires to break when cornering. Wide tires are not without their disadvantages. These include an increased tendency to hydroplaning and sensitivity to potholes on the road. Which tire to choose is the choice of every car enthusiast.

Tolyatti auto design engineers installed wheel rims with a radius of R15, but there are no direct reasons not to do this.

The problem is the difficulty of performing this operation without the involvement of specialists; the intervention of qualified craftsmen is necessary. The reason for this is the “conflict” of the rear arches and suspension parts with the new rims, and in some cases it is necessary to violate the factory design of the transmission.

The suitable tire size for R15 wheels is 185/55 and even 195/50, but most likely such a large width will cause rubbing along the arch. Below are the recommended wheels for modifications to the VAZ-2109.

Is it possible to install 4x100 disks?

This option can be seen quite often on the VAZ-2109. However, in reality this solution is not correct.

The problem is that the standard bolt pattern of the model in question differs relatively little from the factory one. It seems to many that these couple of millimeters do not matter. However, it is impossible to secure a 4×100 disk properly with ordinary bolts. There is a thickening on them (under the head) - it is this that does not allow the fasteners to be screwed in completely. Moreover, if you try to do this by force, most likely you will break the thread in the hub.

Therefore, they have to be secured with special eccentric bolts, and they have disadvantages that do not have the best effect on reliability. You should not forget about them if your own safety and that of your passengers is important to you.

Analyzing the wheel rim market, the entire range can be divided into three types:

  • Light alloy cast;
  • Light alloy forged.

Steel

What wheels are recommended to be mounted on a VAZ-2109

The most suitable size wheels are 14 inches (R14). As stated above, installation of 15-inch ones is also allowed, but with low-profile tires. In this option, the stem should be in a gap between 30-35 mm, and tire models will fit this category: 185/55 or 195/50.

Large tires of the R15 series, for example 195/55 or 205/50, are suitable for mounting on the front axle. In order to insert them onto the rear axle, structural modifications to the suspension design and enlargement of the wheel arches will be required. The optimal sizes for installation on the VAZ-2109 are models 185/60 for R14 and 195/50 for R15.

On the ninth fret model, it is beneficial to carry out external tuning by replacing wheels, since this method is budget-friendly. It can be done on your own without any problems, if you do not try to mount very large rims.

All over the world it is common to use the European designation system. For example, simple wheels for tubeless on a VAZ-2109 are 4 1/2 J-13H2 ET30.

  • J – coded parameters for the rim flange in mm (this includes rounding radii, tilt angles, etc.). This paragraph includes a list of dimensions to obtain a highly specialized conclusion when conducting technical tests. There are other categories - D, E, F, etc.
  • H2 – double hump or annular offset of the rim flange HUMP (it keeps the tubeless tire from slipping). There are also such variations of humps - H (simple), A (asymmetrical), CH (combined), FH (flat).

The drawing below clearly shows the main parameters for the structure of the arrangement of technological holes and protrusions.

  • ET30 or ET+30 – wheel offset in mm. The dimensions of the distances between the middle of the width of the disk and the mating plane (where the disk and hub are in contact) are indicated, respectively equal to 30 mm. Based on where the product is manufactured, the marking changes to OFFSET (negative) or DEPORT (positive).

For a minus value, a designation with a similar sign is used, for example “-ET30”.
