An automatic transmission is only available with 98-horsepower engines. This is the gearbox that most owners of Lada Vesta family cars dream of, who, for lack of a choice, are forced to travel with a robotic gearbox.
The robotic gearbox is available on cars with engines of 106 horsepower. It is too early to judge how reliable this box is, however, given the experience of Lada Vesta car owners, it is worth thinking several times before purchasing a car with this mechanism on board.
Operational problems
The main disadvantage of the car is the weak paintwork and lack of anti-corrosion treatment. As a result, the body, even with minor mechanical impact, becomes covered with chips and scratches, and in damaged areas, if urgent measures are not taken, pockets of rust will form quite quickly.
The level of assembly of the interior and decorative elements are not of high quality. The fragile seat adjustment knob breaks even with little force, and the gear shift knob cover quickly cracks and wears off. There are complaints about the operation of the windows and the air conditioner, which does not do its job well on a hot day.
Engine
The myth that VAZ engines are quite reliable is dispelled by numerous reviews from car enthusiasts, which indicate that problems with power units begin almost on the day the car is purchased. Even with careful operation and timely maintenance, the service life of the engines is about 120 thousand kilometers, after which compression begins to deteriorate and closer to 200 thousand a major overhaul will be required. After 100 thousand km. oil consumption increases. The reason is dry valve seals. After replacing them, this problem usually disappears.
The timing chain drive can be noted as an advantage, however, the service life of the chain is limited and replacement will have to be carried out already at the turn of 50 thousand km. Leaks from under the valve covers occur periodically. In general, 8-valve engines are more reliable compared to 16-valve engines and require significantly lower maintenance and service costs.
Transmission
A manual transmission causes some discomfort during operation. So, when switching gears, a squeal may be heard, and when the speed increases sharply, vibration can be felt. The clutch service life is short and is limited to 50 thousand kilometers. Even earlier, the release bearing may become noisy.
The car is equipped with a Japanese-made Jatco gearbox as an automatic transmission. The main trouble is caused by malfunctions of the electronic control unit in wet weather, caused by the poor location of this unit. All this leads to incorrect operation of the transmission, and in some cases the car may simply not start. This gearbox requires regular replacement and the use of high-quality oil.
Chassis and steering
As a disadvantage of the car, car enthusiasts note the rigid suspension, which, although it copes well with domestic roads, has a rather limited resource. The first to fail to withstand the load are the support bearings, which may need to be replaced after 10–20 thousand kilometers. The service life of shock absorbers ends after 30 thousand km. Balls and tips are unlikely to be able to overcome the 50 thousand mark.
The long-lived ones are the silent blocks of the front levers, which can last from 50 to 60 thousand km. Depending on driving style, pads last from 20 to 30 thousand; brake discs will last twice as long. The steering is quite reliable. Replacement of tips will be required after 30 thousand mileage.
Other problems
Poor sound insulation and low quality plastic decorative elements contribute to the constant presence of extraneous sounds in the cabin. Moreover, the number of crickets increases many times with the onset of cold weather. Electrical problems are most often associated with oxidation of contacts, but eliminating such faults does not require a lot of time and serious financial costs.
