You can find many interesting large hatchbacks that pretend to be crossovers and are definite competitors to the Russian Lada X-RAY. Today, the market for vehicles with conventionally increased cross-country ability is filling up quite quickly, so that there are more and more such offers in the world. The main competitors of a modern Russian car are representatives of virtually all automotive countries in the world, so the buyer will have a very significant choice. It is interesting that AvtoVAZ considers the new product devoid of competition and one of a kind. This is evidenced by the base cost of the car at 589,000 rubles. We will take the cost threshold into account when we determine the car's main competitors. This is very important because the most significant competition today is the reason for the failure or success of a machine in the market.
Of course, every Russian patriot wants domestic cars and other equipment to receive truly tangible advantages in the market, to be sold quite actively and to have the necessary qualities and capabilities. However, it will not be easy for even the most notorious patriot to pay about 700,000 rubles for a good version of the Lada X-RAY in a decent configuration. Even taking into account the current dollar exchange rate in the country, this price is unprecedented. However, you can criticize the manufacturer for a long time, or you can simply look at the competitors and understand how good the alternatives are. After all, if there are more interesting and less expensive offers, vehicles from Russian manufacturers will have to be made cheaper. Otherwise, very few people will buy it and only out of deepest patriotic feelings.
Technical nonsense
For marketers, there is one loophole in the definition, and if you use it without shame, then it will be possible to classify both station wagons and slightly raised hatchbacks as crossovers. In some situations it even comes to technical nonsense. How can Volkswagen Polo Cross be classified as a crossover?
The lower point of the front bumper is lower compared to the Polo sedan. Then, when compared with the regular Lada Kalina, the latter should be safely classified as an all-terrain vehicle. What can we say about Kalina Cross?
Nothing more than a snow and swamp-going vehicle. Compared to the Polo, Kalina looks like a station wagon with more pronounced ground clearance, that is, almost an SUV.
It is necessary to resort to common sense and add another addition to the definition - to clarify the body status. Yes, there is a passenger platform, yes, there are passenger units and components. The main thing that characterizes a crossover is its original body, which does not replicate a passenger car on the same platform. Then everything becomes clear immediately.
The new Hyundai Creta, for example, belongs to the bright mini-crossovers on the B-class passenger platform.
You can’t say at all that it will be a platform relative of the Hyundai Solaris or Kia Rio. The mid-size crossover is the Nissan Murano, assembled on the D platform. Its relationship with the Renault Laguna is not easy to determine.

Concept 2 Lada XRAY already in the “base” will receive systems such as height adjustment of the driver’s seat, heated windshield and steering wheel, seats and exterior mirrors. Specially designed ergonomic seats ensure comfort even on long journeys.
The design of the second Lada XRAY concept provides good possibilities for transforming the interior: the back of the front passenger seat folds and forms a flat surface with the rear seat folded; in the presence of a luggage compartment organizer, a so-called flat floor is formed, ensuring the convenience of transporting large cargo. A mesh for holding things, equipped with convenient and easy-to-use fasteners, will help keep your trunk organized.
We draw a conclusion
If we talk about the results of our comparison, the differences between the bases of the two versions of XRAY are the electric power steering, increased ground clearance, 17-size alloy wheels, rear disc brake and a more powerful engine.
Therefore, when choosing a car, you should proceed from your needs. If you are going to conquer off-road terrain and go to the countryside, perhaps take a car with high ground clearance. If you need complete stuffing for affordable money, then you can choose XRAY without the Cross prefix, but in the “Lux” configuration - it will have an automatic transmission, climate control, heated seats and mirrors, parking sensors, light and rain sensors, all power windows will be electric.

Lada C-Cross
Lada S-Cross was created on the VAZ Lada-B platform, based on the Renault Megane platform, the rear suspension of which was replaced with AvtoVAZ’s own design.
This car has many external differences from the Lada XRay. First of all, it is sleeker, and off-road driving is not the first thing that comes to mind when evaluating the exterior. The design of the front of the car is more likely associated with a sedan, but the side and rear views are quite consistent with a crossover.
The interior of the Lada C-Cross looks unexpectedly original - four separate sports-type seats, an exclusive instrument panel that combines retro and avant-garde elements, and unusually shaped door handles.
The car is equipped with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, the maximum speed of which is 190 km/h, and gasoline consumption in mixed mode is 8.2 liters per 100 km.
The original interior design solution does not prevent the crossover from remaining popular among Russian car enthusiasts, especially female drivers.
Box
The Priora was equipped only with a five-speed manual transmission (naturally, modified after the “ten” family), only in the restyled version the robotic five-speed automatic transmission was actively distributed. The X Ray is equipped with a five-speed manual transmission (modified from the Lada 2180) and a five-speed JR5 robotic gearbox. Both robotic gearboxes suffer from twitching and shifting gears late, and the JR5 experiences dissonance when driving on the highway: at a speed of 100 km/h, fuel consumption is higher than in the city.
This is an egregious case for the gearbox. The owner of X Ray will prefer familiar mechanics that are familiar to everyone. But even here sixth gear is requested: there is not enough power. Gears on a manual transmission engage smoothly, but at first, like on any other car, the box needs to be given time to “develop.”
History of creation[ | ]
In August 2012, a three-door crossover concept car LADA XRAY Concept was shown at the Moscow International Automobile Salon. A team worked on the concept under the leadership of new chief designer Steve Mattin, who took the Lada C-Cross project as a basis [ source not specified 1191 days
]. Evgeny Tkachev was responsible for the exterior, Nikolay Suslov was responsible for the interior. The head of the LADA XRAY project is Oleg Grunenkov. A single copy of the car was created by the Italian company Vercarmodel Saro Srl according to the project of the LADA design studio. The cost of creating this sample cost approximately $1 million. The concept demonstrated plans to develop a new visual style for LADA cars, as well as development in the segment of SUVs, crossovers and SUVs. “XRAY” is an abbreviation consisting of “X” - as a designation for intersection (English crossover, meaning the type of car body, see crossover), “R” for the word “Recreation” (“rest”), “A” for the word "Activity" ("activity"), "Y" from the word "Your" ("your") or "Young" (young).
Two years later, at the same Moscow motor show, a second concept was shown - the five-door LADA XRAY Concept 2, already closer to the model for mass production.
Serial production of the model began on December 15, 2022, in full accordance with the schedule previously announced by the company. The car is produced at the production site in Tolyatti. Sales started on February 14, 2016.
In 2022, the concepts of sports and all-terrain versions were presented: LADA XRAY Sport Concept and LADA XRAY Cross Concept. The sports version received a lowered ground clearance, “sporty” engine and suspension tuning, while the all-terrain version, on the contrary, received an increased ground clearance, as well as a body kit - linings on the lower part of the doors, sills, wheel arches, bumpers that protect the body enamel on light off-road conditions.

Specifications
Choosing a Hyundai Greta or Kia X Line based on technical characteristics is the most interesting thing. The cars are fundamentally different in suspension, dynamics, engines and transmissions.
It cannot be any other way when it comes to the classic city hatchback and crossover. Car creators were counting on different target audiences and ways of using their creations.
Dimensions
The dimensions of X Line at first glance are not very different from Gretta. Its length is 4240 mm versus 4270 mm for the crossover, wheelbase is 1750 mm versus 1780 mm, height is 1535 mm versus 1665 mm for its competitor.
It is this last indicator that creates a fundamentally different picture before the eyes of motorists. Kia is squat, although it is considered a higher representative of its class. It doesn't quite reach the level of a city SUV, but it handles perfectly thanks to its streamlined shape.
The trunk of the station wagon is also inferior in volume, which is only 390 liters, while that of the Crete is 402 liters. It is difficult to say how useful the difference in use will be, because the size that a crossover has is often not enough for a large family.
For long trips you have to equip an additional luggage compartment on the roof. The same trick can be done with a hatchback, so the victory is relative.
But the situation with ground clearance is interesting. In Hyundai, the ground clearance is 190 mm, which is enough for a comfortable ride in the city and far beyond its borders. In the first modifications of Kia, the ground clearance was only 170 mm, not bad for the city, but definitely not comparable to a crossover.
But the updated models from 2022 are more seriously elevated. The ground clearance in them is 195 mm, even exceeding the characteristics of the competitor.
Engines
Kia installs 2 options of gasoline engines in the hatchback: 1.4 and 1.6 liters and 100 and 123 hp. respectively. Both engines have 4 cylinders and 16 valves. They meet modern standards and can even compete for leadership with competitors, but in their class, and not against a Korean crossover.
Hyundai offers motorists 3 engine options:
- Volume 1.6 and power 121 hp.
- Volume 1.6 l and power 123 hp.
- Volume 2 liters and power 149 hp.
In general, Koreans install reliable units in their cars, so that with timely maintenance, a crossover and a hatchback will last the same long time.
Transmissions
There are no surprises here on either side. Manufacturers have taken care of the availability of 6-speed automatic and manual transmissions on the crossover and hatchback. The only difference is that the Rio has only front-wheel drive, while Cretas also have all-wheel drive.
There are no reliability issues with any of the options. The boxes last a long time and require almost no maintenance. It is recommended to change fluids every 30-60 thousand kilometers, depending on driving style.
Suspension
Choosing between the Kia Rio X Line or Creta based on the suspension is also interesting. On the one hand, in any case it will be quite tough; in budget cars it’s no different. But Hyundai gave buyers a choice.
If front-wheel drive models are equipped with a dependent torsion beam, then all-wheel drive models are equipped with an independent linkage beam. It softens the ride on bad roads, making the ride smooth and confident.
The Kia's suspension is completely unsuitable for off-road driving. This is an absolutely city car and without asphalt, people sitting inside will feel all the bumps.
Accept that the Korean hatchback's competition with crossovers is only at the level of advertising promises. But in fact, this is still the same family station wagon, only slightly raised.
Which is better to choose?
Choosing a car in this case will not be as simple as it might seem at first glance. After all, despite the fact that the Kia Seltos, the release date of which in Russia is already known and is scheduled for March 2022, many details are already known about this crossover
Before its appearance on sale, it had already managed to attract the attention of many car enthusiasts due to its low cost with the expected excellent quality, a wealth of equipment, the presence of powerful engines and stylish external and internal design. But Lada, no less famous among us, has many advantages, one of which is its lower cost and proven relatively good quality.
Therefore, the first crossover will suit connoisseurs of high speeds and fast driving. The car will also appeal to those who need a spacious interior and trunk. The second car is of interest to lovers of original and unusual design, to those people who want to be noticeable on the road. In addition, a Russian car is an ideal option if you have a very modest budget or want to save money. True, you shouldn’t expect any special dynamics from it. The quality of the variator is also a concern. But even in the case of the Korean, those who want to be always and completely confident in the performance of their transmission should not purchase versions with a CVT or robot. These units require constant attention and quality maintenance. By the way, maintaining a Russian will save a lot of money, whereas if you choose a foreigner, it will be more expensive, but quite affordable even for people with not very large incomes.
Review of the popular car Lada vesta: sport wagon cross
Both cars are ideal for summer residents and fans of outdoor recreation. They are quite passable, unpretentious and reliable under such loads. But the Xray Cross's small trunk volume will disappoint many gardeners who have to carry a lot of stuff.
The machines are equally suitable for both men and women. But Lada is still a more feminine car, thanks to its compact size and unusual appearance. Moreover, in both cases a CVT or robot is available, which is often preferred by many ladies or city dwellers.
Those who often have to travel are better off choosing the Kia with its more spacious and comfortable interior, as well as spacious luggage compartment.
Well, in general, both cars are good in their own way. And everyone should choose a car to their liking.
↑ Engines – Vesta or X Rey, which is better
As unfortunate as it may be, the hatchback wins here completely. After all, it can offer its buyer several engines at once, while Vesta has only one.
Both models have in common a 106-horsepower engine from the VAZ-21129 series. This is a unit that has long been time-tested, with sixteen valves, four cylinders, and a distributed fuel injection complex. Of course, its power is not huge, but for a small hatchback and class B sedan it is perfect.
However, if Vesta has exhausted its options, then X Ray is also ready to offer a couple more current units. And this is a 110-horsepower engine, having the same volume of 1.6 liters, but at the same time developed by the Renault-Nissan Alliance. For many, this option will be slightly preferable, since the unit is more economical, more dynamic, and the cutoff is located a little higher.
However, the top ones included not an imported engine at all, but, again, a domestic one. And this is a 1.8-liter engine from the VAZ-21179 serial line. It doesn’t have any special design, but this model has 122 hp. With. and 6000 rpm. Of course, such a motor makes it possible for greater agility, which, however, is concealed by a five-speed robot that comes paired with the unit.
So, as you can see, when comparing X Ray and Lada Vesta, in this case the first model wins.
The interior of the Lada XRAY crossover is comfortable and rational
The interior is rich, including built-in options. The speed sensor now has a large size, and a fuel scale and tachometer will be located on its sides. Perhaps more expensive assemblies will be pleased with a multimedia screen on the central panel. Under it, air conditioning and climate control will fit comfortably and organically.
It will be possible to purchase a heated windshield, an adjustable driver's seat, and the basic version will have airbags, directional stability and heated side windows.
New interior spaciousness has been provided: the length of the cabin has been increased, which has improved comfort for rear seat passengers. The fifth door's wide rear opening makes it easy to stow luggage for the whole family.
In the trunk there are fastenings for the net, plastic niches behind the rear wheel arches. The rear seat folds in a 60/40 ratio, allowing you to carry bulky cargo if necessary. A compartment under the trunk floor for things that need to be stored out of sight.
Salon
The interior contents depend on the configuration. However, both cars are conceptually different from each other. It all starts with the steering wheel and dashboard. The Priora has a thinner steering wheel than the X Ray, and the latter has more pleasant-to-touch levers behind the steering wheel. The Priora's dashboard is more familiar: odometer, speedometer, display in the middle, fuel and temperature gauge.
In the X Ray, the dashboard is divided into three zones, each of which contains round displays. The far left is the electronic odometer, the middle is the speed, the right is the mileage, fuel gauge and temperature information. Indicators are displayed on the left and middle screen. This is not to say that it looks fashionable - this image was popular in the mid-2000s.
The Priora's seats are simpler than those of the X Ray: in this model, the designers tried to add lateral support, but the driver's seat turned out to be something between the Priora and, for example, the Qashqai. There is enough space in the cabin for two adults and three children in one car or another.
The central control panel and decoration of the X Ray are very much reminiscent of the Renault Kaptur: if you change from one car to another, you may not feel the difference; your hand will find the hazard warning button and turn on the music. It doesn't look bad, but the functionality is the same as in the Priora.
The central panel in the Priora is still equipped with an analog clock. But this panel has its own advantage: you can install any radio, and the most expensive configuration generally comes with an advanced audio system with a navigator. The same thing, of course, is in the X Ray, but all the zest with a good radio is lost after the factory built-in audio systems.
Appearance of Concept and serial developments of Lada
VAZ can launch a new SUV called X-Ray into series only if there is a certain chance of success. In the meantime, the Cross projects from the Russian concern were doomed to failure. Too high a price ruins Russian-made pseudo jeeps, but in the Lada X Ray you can find many beautiful aspects that can be included in the series:
The developments of X Ray have already been distributed among new VAZ projects being implemented. The Russian Concept actually completely lost faith in mass production for a number of reasons. The new Lada Jeep turned out to be only a conceptual embodiment of the future, but still has some chances for mass production. It’s too early to talk about the release date and the appearance of videos from factory tests.
Exterior
In terms of appearance, a lot will depend on personal preference, as designs vary significantly. X-Ray is definitely suitable for those who like a cocky and aggressive look. Of course, the production hatchback doesn’t reach the level of a chic concept car, but it looks great.
In its style, one cannot help but pay attention to the stampings on the body, which catch not only the doors, but also the fenders and even the bumpers. However, these ornate curves in the shape of the letter “X”, together with the 15-inch wheels that come as standard, and the impressive ground clearance, visually make the car shorter, and not everyone likes it. However, one cannot help but admit that the muscular body shapes, feet, headlights, chrome and trims look very advantageous.
As a result, they got a pretty and moderately correct image, which, on the one hand, does not have any features that break out of the overall picture, and on the other, never gets boring. A wide radiator grille, sharpened headlights, short overhangs and a line of side glazing extending upwards combine perfectly with branded lining on the front fenders and nice wheels.
In general, it is difficult to say which looks better externally - the Lada X-Ray or the Kia Rio, because everyone has different tastes.
Car appearance
Design is an exclusively subjective concept, but there are always some general principles embedded in the head of each of us. For example, everyone confidently divides design into modern and “antediluvian”. For some, modern design is when most passersby open their mouths and point at the car, while for others it is something extraordinary (a la Nissan Juke). Therefore, we ask you not to strictly judge the author’s opinion, because it may differ from yours - and this is normal.
The appearance of the Lada XRay will surely appeal to many car enthusiasts. This is probably due to the wow effect of what the domestic auto industry is capable of. And indeed, this design is a breakthrough in our automotive industry. Previously, you could always say with confidence “oh, this is another modified Lada” (even if there is no badge). With the latest new products, everything is much more interesting - without seeing the XRay and Vesta bodies on the Internet and on the pages of magazines, you might think that this is some new product of the foreign automobile industry. Here, let's take a closer look - Lada look like ?
- Mitsubishi ASX – from a distance you can’t even tell it apart. Except for the radiator grille and the height of the rear lights. Up close, of course, you will find a lot of differences, but the vector of the ASX and X-Ray exterior lies in the same direction. Another thing is that the Japanese does not surprise anyone in appearance, but such a look for Lada is something out of the ordinary.
- Nissan Juke. The expressiveness of the exterior is what catches the attention of both models. The Dzhukovsky puffiness and the signature Ladovsky “X” clearly highlight the wings and wheel arches, and the height of the “muzzle” with an abundance of optics creates an impressive (but, according to about half of the people, dubious) appearance.
- Renault Sandero Stepway - if you put it next to the Lada, you can see its smaller copy. What will we get if we reduce XRay even by 5%? – that’s right: hatchback! And on the hatch, puddles, mud and snow are no longer “knee-deep” - but this is a separate issue that does not concern the appearance. As a result: the appearance of the French and the Russian are similar, but the scales are different (it seems that this can be applied not only in the context of cars).
The last comparison shows that the design theme is quite closely tied to the dimensional parameters, which we will gradually move on to under the next heading.
Interior
There is an opinion that the interior of the Lada X-Ray was created under the influence of the same KIA Rio. VAZ designers do not give any comments, but if you look closely, you can easily find common features. However, one cannot help but admit that the interior of both cars is quite distinctive and original.
The appearance of the XRAY interior is more swift and aggressive. The 3-spoke steering wheel, along with the spectacular dashboard wells, literally “charges” you with energy and the desire to drive actively.
In addition, the design of the dashboard can’t be faulted either. Large panels with smooth but expressive transitions, elongated air deflectors and a laconic center console look very good. Although not everyone likes the different textures of plastic. The seats are not bad, but in the basic versions the lumbar support is too low, which creates some inconvenience.
The Rio's front seats are no worse than those of its competitor, but the rear sofa is not very comfortable, primarily because it is too low. However, it is quite possible to go there.
Chassis and ground clearance
Ground clearance and chassis are almost the first parameters that domestic buyers pay attention to when comparing/selecting cars. It’s hard to deal with the lack of roads, so you have to choose those cars that can go through potholes and unmarked speed bumps. The braking system is also important: an unforeseen incident can happen on the road, and a brake pedal driven into the floor should cause quick and complete braking.
Ground clearance of Lada X-Ray is 195 mm, Lada Priora is 170 mm (before restyling – 165). Quite acceptable and good performance for those cars that go on Russian roads. However, a lot depends on the suspension. On the Priora, it is “standard” for AvtoVAZ products, and takes impacts well from potholes on the road. X-Ray owners praise their cars, noting their good ability to overcome obstacles and the “non-loose”, strong suspension.
In terms of characteristics, the two cars are all the same. There are ventilated disc brakes at the front, independent spring suspension, and drum brakes and semi-independent spring suspension at the rear. It is very sad that there are drum brakes at the rear - they are not only more fragile than disc brakes, but also less effective when braking. The fact that drum brakes exist can be called a strong disadvantage of these cars.
Professional racer praises XRay
With the X-Ray concept, the developers made it clear that this model even aspires to participate in racing. In this regard, the event in Moscow was attended by the country's champion in circular racing in the Touring Light league, Dmitry Bragin. The driver examined the new car in detail, inside and out, got behind the wheel, and then shared his positive impressions of the new Lada.
But Dmitry would like to change the color of the X Ray, in which it was presented in Moscow. Not surprising, since the color of the concept at the exhibition was pale turquoise. And most racers, as you know, prefer bright colors
But this is not so important, because changing the color of the car during production is not a problem
↑ Driving performance
Even though many are trying to position X Rey as a crossover, there is no basis here. A simply tall hatchback does not have an all-wheel drive system, even in the optional list. Actually, like Vesta, which is also front-wheel drive.
But in terms of chassis design, they are completely identical. This is a spring, independent front suspension with a stabilizer and MacPherson struts.
Appearance.
Famous designer Steve Mattin participated in creating the appearance for the first Russian J-class car, and all the work was carried out in the VAZ workshops.
In general, the design is made in a modern manner and the design of the front part of the body is especially distinguished. The complex optics of the head lighting are continued in a rather original radiator grille, made in the form of several partitions with space allocated for the state. numbers. Along the edges there is a beautiful silver edging that starts from the headlights and ends at the bottom of the bumper, just in front of the rounded fog lamps. There is also a barely noticeable air intake at the bottom.
The side surfaces have a rather aggressive relief, which was borrowed from another new AvtoVAZ product - Lada VESTA.
The rear part of the body vaguely resembles the design of the Kalina, but in a much more aggressive and dynamic manner. Curved headlights and a large trunk lid give the car solidity and power. The large plastic bumper contains 2 outlets for the exhaust system.
Ground clearance Lada X-Ray
This point is the main one in the arguments of supporters that the domestic model is a full-fledged SUV. Indeed, the declared ground clearance of 195 mm is impressive, especially since not every modern SUV can boast of a similar result. In addition, small body overhangs are given as additional arguments - 830 mm for the front and 742 mm for the stern. The approach and departure angles are also quite large - 21° and 34°, respectively. Such indicators, theoretically, guarantee the possibility of confident driving over rough terrain.
The hatchback's body overhangs are small, which is also included in the list of advantages.
However, for cars from AvtoVAZ, having high ground clearance is the rule rather than the exception. The same Grants, with a ground clearance of 160 mm, are not far behind many “full-fledged crossovers” such as the Nissan Juke, in which this figure ranges from 170 to 180 mm, for example. Therefore, it is incorrect to evaluate X-Ray solely on this parameter.
As the example of the Nissan Juke shows, ground clearance is not considered the main thing.
Comfort and safety systems
The crossover received top-end technology. Engineers installed modern systems, which are especially noticeable in the maximum configuration. The list of available functions includes personal settings for the dashboard, cruise control, traffic sign tracking, heating, tow bar, multimedia with a 9.2-inch screen. The cross hatch looks more modest. The list included fog lights, four parking sensors, an assistant for lifting and starting, front airbags, directional stability, and mounts for child seats.
Let's sum it up
In recent years, many journalists from respected publications have begun to actively praise domestic manufacturers for their growth and development. But the lack of release of the planned Jeep says a lot. While the Lada X-Ray remains at the concept stage, we can judge the insufficient production capacity at AvtoVAZ. After all, otherwise the company would have launched the car into series long ago and would have received thousands of additional sales.
The current situation in the car market should be to the advantage of domestic manufacturers. But in practice it turns out that the rise in the dollar and the rise in prices for foreign cars only suppresses AvtoVAZ. Less and less quality cars are being sent for test drives, and people are publishing less and less happy reviews about buying cars. Let's hope that X Ray will completely change the situation for the brand after its release.
Until recently, the phrase “Lada crossovers” evoked a sarcastic grin from most motorists - Nivas of various modifications, a relic of the Soviet automobile industry, even if they were worthy of the title of SUV, could only be classified as crossovers in a nightmare.
But already at the beginning of 2022, the first real crossovers, called Lada Xray and Lada XRay Cross, will roll off the VAZ assembly line.
Price for minimum and maximum configuration
Car dealerships are selling off the remains of Priora, offering good discounts on the latest batches. Today, the price of the Lada Priora starts at 244,900 rubles (for the minimum configuration) and ends at 342,400 rubles (maximum configuration). The price of X-Ray (X-RAY), unlike the Priora, remains higher: from 629,900 rubles to 760,900 rubles. It is important to note that the X has more types of configurations.
But they organize promotions and give discounts for the brand new X Ray, because new VAZ cars are following on its heels: for example, the same Vesta Cross. But the question of whether the X-Ray is worth the money is still open: it never became a very popular car, but the Priora, with which it is being compared, has taken root well among car enthusiasts and still holds its position to this day. The price reduction at car dealers for this model is only beneficial.
