Spoils in the wheels: why does Ukraine not allow Lada Vesta?

Vesta price in Ukraine

AvtoVAZ management considers the Ukrainian market one of the priorities for the Lada Vesta sedan. This is understandable for a number of reasons. At the launch of the new Lada Vesta, the then president of the automaker, Bo Andersson, decisively stated that it was time to again enter all CIS markets.

The Russian manufacturer valued the first (let's say signal) version of the Lada Vesta Classic at 514 thousand rubles, which for a Ukrainian buyer will amount to approximately 185-188 thousand hryvnia. Considering the constant jumps in the value of the hryvnia, there is no more or less fixed value. In the last half of the year, prices even exceeded the 200 thousand hryvnia mark.

What will the buyer pay this amount for? It gets a car from a 1.6-liter petrol engine, the power of which is 106 hp, and a 5-speed manual gearbox from Renault. Lada Vesta is capable of reaching 100 km/h in 11.8 seconds. At maximum, the sedan accelerates to 178 km/h. An average of 7.8 liters of fuel is required per 100 km. They put “X” on the Lada

The Lada model range presented on the Ukrainian market has also decreased significantly. Today, neither Kalina nor Priora are officially supplied to this country, and Ukrainian buyers are offered only Lada 4×4, Granta and Largus to choose from. As for the new Lada Vesta and XRAY, their appearance on the local market remains a big question mark, taking into account the introduced countervailing duties.

By the way, unlike the Russian market, where the best seller is the budget Granta, in Ukraine the best-selling AVTOVAZ model is the Lada 4×4 all-terrain vehicle. As RST.ua analysts explain, this is the only model that does not have direct competition in its segment on the Ukrainian market. “Lada 4×4 is aimed at a “rural” audience, where the most important factor is cross-country ability at the expense of comfort. In other segments, consumers prefer higher quality products,” experts say.

Where can you buy Vesta in Ukraine

One of the best options is to visit the famous website “Avtobazaar”. The advantage of this portal is that it is very easy to use. This is especially true for the search program, which has many filters, which allows you to find exactly the model you need. But in general we are talking about used models. The same ones can be found on the Avto.Ria website.

In general, you can buy a Lada Vesta car in Ukraine through a variety of websites. It is better to visit specialized ones. In any case, in this option you choose a used option - more or less used. But since the car went on sale relatively recently, it is not always possible to find the required option on such sites. Still, it is better to contact dealer services.

Vesta dealers in Ukraine

Among the official dealers of VAZ cars, in particular Lada Vesta, we note the following companies:

— car dealership Bogdan Auto Kyiv;

— car dealership AIS Autocenter Kyiv;

— car dealership AIS Kyiv Dneprovsky;

— car dealership Dnepropetrovsk-Auto (Dnepr);

— car dealership Galichina-Auto (Lviv).

We have named only some dealer companies that operate in large cities of Ukraine. In general, there are over 30 car dealerships that are official suppliers and sellers of Lada Vesta products.

After the start of sales in Ukraine, Lada Vesta can be found in 25 cities and 60 dealership centers.

The official importer of Lada cars in Ukraine, in particular Vesta models, is JSC UKRAVTOVAZ. This organization imports both cars directly and spare parts.

By visiting the company’s website, you can easily find the addresses of points of sale of Vesta models and spare parts in a search. What is important is that they are located in each of the regional centers of the country, which is very convenient for each of the buyers.

So friends, I decided to buy this miracle device. I bought it with skepticism, because I was switching from a Chevrolet Captiva, but due to personal circumstances I had to sell it and look for a car for half the cost of the Captiva (yes, yes, a scam). Having added a little, I decided to fix my gaze on the news. Of course, I considered Rio and Solaris, but the budget was strictly limited, every ruble counted, I decided to take Vesta. So the equipment is comfort image, 1.6 manual transmission Renault. I was basically looking for this gearbox, because the Vazovskaya, although reliable, is noisy. Looking ahead, I will say that the Renovskaya is no better than the VAZ in terms of noise (JH3). But it seems to be reliable; Logans run for so long with such a manual transmission. I've owned the car for a year in total and this is what I can tell you. There were no problems during the year, mileage during the year was 44,000 km, i.e. traveled a lot. I drove 3 times south to Sochi, 2 times to Astrakhan. No problems. Oil consumption from replacement to replacement is zero, i.e. doesn't eat at all. Gasoline in the city is 9l/100, on the highway it’s a fairy tale, on the road to Astrakhan at a speed of 100-120 km/h a full tank of gasoline lasts for 940 km. I couldn't believe my eyes. On the road to Sochi there is more hawala, since the speed limit is higher + serpentine at the end, but still worthy. The interior is quite quiet, more sound comes from the manual transmission, so owners of new cars with a 1.8 engine and Renault JR5 manual transmission will be even better off, it is quiet. There is a lot of space in the back, I’m 187 cm behind me with a whistle, the roof in the back is a bit low, though. Over the course of a year of ownership and 44,000 km, I only changed the stabilizer bushings (a disease of the first cars, they creak in the cold and when wet), and even then free of charge under warranty, they were supplied from a Chevy Niva - the problem went away. The car drives normally, not for traffic light racing, but quite enough for a comfortable ride. A big plus is the good traction at the bottom, i.e. You can easily drive 2-2.5t. revolutions with low consumption without straining. The brakes are not bad, there are enough of them. I was pleased that when braking sharply from 60 km/h and above, the emergency lights come on like on foreign cars. Very good headlights, excellent low beam, many times better than on competitors and this is the only car that has separate optics for low and high beam, and not H4, like everyone else. The suspension is omnivorous, a little noisy. But it works great, doesn't break through. The plastic in the cabin is hard, but does not rattle. Individual local crickets appear from time to time, mainly from the dashboard visor. The radio was push-button, I changed it and installed Android. I reupholstered the steering wheel in Nappa leather, the gearshift lever as well, and installed covers with tightening in eco-leather in the interior. As a result, I’m very pleased with the car, I don’t even want anything else, which is generally strange for me. I hope he runs around and makes me happy.

Difference between export models

In Soviet times, there was a strong belief that export samples from the Tolyatti plant were much better than those sold on the domestic market. Then this was actually true, and getting an export VAZ was considered lucky.

How are things now? The active general manager intends to return all CIS markets to AvtoVAZ. Yes, and on Western European roads you can see the Lada. And not only Niva, which local farmers like, but also Vesta, which we are talking about.

The advertising campaign was quite good. In particular, representatives of AvtoVAZ stated that Vesta will meet Euro-6 environmental standards. This is a big breakthrough, because the Russian automobile industry has never dreamed of such parameters. Price in Western Europe - from 8,000 euros. AvtoVAZ also boasts of the design of the Vesta models, drawn by Swede Steve Mattin.

The test drive was carried out on Italian roads, and local experts in Italian publications are already discussing the new product.

The purely Russian (and CIS too) version of Vesta will in many ways be inferior to the export model. There is no need to talk about the Euro-6 standard. But in the basic equipment there is room for a stabilization system. How exactly do export options differ from import ones? Let’s see (The difference between Vesta Export and Import is in detail).

Is Lada relevant in Ukraine?

We have already mentioned that the management of AvtoVAZ seriously decided to saturate the Ukrainian market with Vesta models. But the expectations were not entirely justified.

The Lada Vesta was supposed to conquer the Ukrainian market in 2016, as planned by the leadership of the leader of the Russian automobile industry. It should be noted that hopes were also associated with the fact that the sales volume on the domestic market was not as great as expected. That is, some miscalculations did not become obvious on all fronts. After all, only half of what was planned was sold.

On the one hand, we get a model that has many donor “organs” from Renault and Nissan. But it was not possible to get rid of the traditional “sores” and problems of the previous “cans”. The most disappointed are those who expected the appearance of this model.

Naturally, regular versions are coming to Ukraine, not export ones, which they are so actively trying to present in the West. But one of the main problems of the car will be that in price it is inferior to ZAZ-Daewoo products, but in terms of quality it cannot boast of anything special. The fact is that, on the one hand, the developers are talking about their most equipped model. On the other hand, it seems that they tried to create the car as quickly as possible, which led to many miscalculations that were discovered during the first tests.

So, let’s name the main reasons why the Lada Vesta does not enjoy the expected popularity on the Ukrainian market.

First, and most importantly, the price/quality combination is not very tempting; secondly, a weak guarantee. This means that for one reason or another, of which there are many, you may simply be denied warranty service. The list of components under warranty is much shorter than in cars of the same class from other manufacturers. Thirdly, you are guaranteed to spend a lot of weekends in the garage or service center. And the fourth reason is the main one – alternative. For a lower price you can buy a better car, most importantly – more reliable. Or a used foreign car.

Naturally, one cannot fail to mention the complex relationships between countries, which in no way contribute to the establishment of close trade relations.

Barrier at the border

Meanwhile, since September of this year, special duties on gasoline foreign cars have been abolished, but instead of them, since 2016, Ukraine has been establishing additional customs duties for cars from Russia in the amount of 10.41 to 17.66%, depending on the manufacturer. The reason for their introduction was state subsidies for Russian car factories supplying their products to Ukraine. As the initiators of the anti-dumping investigation assure, this provides them with a competitive advantage over Ukrainian automakers. By the way, since December, similar measures began to apply to cars from Uzbekistan. According to industry participants, in this way the Ukrainian authorities are clearing the market for local ZAZ and Bogdan, which have been virtually idle since last year.

Where else is Lada Vesta sold (CIS, Europe)

In the Russian Federation, sales of Vesta models started on November 24, 2015. On that very day, official dealers in Belarus and Kazakhstan opened their price lists for the model. The manufacturer considers these countries to be key for exporting its cars. The other two countries are Azerbaijan and Ukraine.

Today, the largest market for AvtoVAZ is Kazakhstan. If we evaluate all exports, then approximately 80% of cars remain in this country. True, the share of Lada Vesta is not yet as large as expected. For Kazakhs, the trend remains the same Niva.

Lada Vesta reflects the problem of the Russian automobile industry, which, as before, remains the same. They offer us a very good design, but the car as a whole is unreliable. Or a budget model at a price that doesn’t quite logically match the quality. Therefore, purchasing a new AvtoVAZ product raises big questions. Home page
