One of the main events of MIAS 2018 was the presentation of the new Lada Granta family, which was presented in four body types (sedan, liftback, hatchback and station wagon). The price of this car has remained virtually unchanged, but the model has received a lot of updates. All the features of the new Granta are presented in the video.
New body options
- Lada Granta sedan: dynamics and efficiency;

These are the slogans prescribed for each of the models. The cost of the modifications is not reliably known, but it can be assumed that the differences will be insignificant.
Otherwise, few people will buy a domestic brand if for the same money you can buy a French Renault Logan.
The updated Granta liftback sedan will appear in a completely new “X-Ray” body. We have already seen something similar with the Lada Vesta. In addition to the two body modifications, a station wagon will also be added, also with an “X-Ray” front part.
Despite the body update, the power units remained at the same level - from the great-grandfathers and great-grandmothers of the VAZ-2108, 2109, 21099. Such developments are somewhat upsetting, since something new could have been developed over such a long period. There were rumors about a completely new type of engine with a volume of 1.4 liters and 16 valves with a pre-installed turbocharger. But this remained at the level of rumors.
Interior changes
The interior began to look better, again it is compared with Vesta, although there is a lot from Kalina, for example, the dashboard, which was decorated with relief inserts. The materials remain the same - simple plastic and fabric on the seats.
The chairs have slightly changed their form factor and received two-tone upholstery. There is no more free space, but the platform and seating arrangement are still the same.
We installed a new steering wheel for the Lada Granta FL, which is familiar to the owners of the second Priora. They also installed a new instrument panel with a familiar architecture. These are deep wells with dials that are not the most readable, and the design of the on-board computer has been updated.
They even changed the lighting, because we had to install ERA-GLONASS.
A new radio with a small monitor is installed on the center console - old technology, but it will not be in the base, instead there is a usual place for the radio, which you need to install yourself. Another stove block with three washers was installed. They also removed the cigarette lighter, leaving a regular socket instead.
It is also worth noting the West gearbox lever, regardless of whether it is a mechanic or a robot.
So, 5 bodies – 5 trunks:
- sedan - 520 liters;
- hatchback – 240 liters;
- liftback - 435 liters;
- station wagon - 360 liters.

The power units work in tandem with a five-speed manual / four-speed automatic transmission. By the way, manual transmission/automatic transmission is fully compatible with Japanese Nissan and Datsun. The sports version of the Lada Granta remained unchanged: 1.6 liters / 118 hp, gas-filled shock absorbers, cost from half a million rubles.

The planned modernization also affected the Grant model in the liftback body. One of the main advantages is the new X-face, which all restyled new products are endowed with.
The front optics now look new. She became more expressive. The radiator grille is aggressive and has acquired a sporty fit. The windshield sprayers were removed from the hood and moved to the body part, closer to the wipers.
The wings became streamlined, extensive, with a certain muscularity. we occupy 35% of the entire area of the radiator grille. The lower contour of the bumper is completed by chrome inserts in the shape of boomerangs. Something similar has already been observed in Vesta and Xray. The rear of the updated Granta liftback 2022 remained without obvious changes, with the exception of the protruding “Lada” nameplate. The bumper pumped up slightly and became sportier.
Vestovsky design
Everyone says that Vesta’s face was simply screwed onto the new model, this is certainly not the case. If you put the two models side by side, the difference will be noticeable. Architectural solutions - yes, they correspond to the older model - X-shaped muzzle. Is this bad - no, because all manufacturers make their cars in the same style.
There is a new, proprietary halogen optics, under which the chrome lines of the same letter run. The bumper is completely different, recessed inside where the Lada Granta fog lights are located. If we go into detail, we even changed the design of the injectors.
On the side there are new fenders with different arches, of course different wheels, door handles, etc. The 15-inch top-end wheels have acquired a different design of their own. A lot of changes were made to the rear. There's a unique trunk lid with recessed lines. The license plate was transferred to it from the bumper. The bumper has undergone major changes.
I think everyone will agree that the new product has become prettier.

Conclusion Every product has its own buyer - so says popular wisdom. For some car enthusiasts the car is good, for others not so much. In the price category up to 450,000 rubles (as of September 17, 2018), you couldn’t find a better offer.
If you systematically undergo maintenance, fill in good oils and high-octane fuel, then the car will last for decades. For offers from Renault, Peugeot and other foreign brands, you need to pay an additional 100,000 rubles, which not everyone can afford.
Advantages and disadvantages
Despite the short duration of sales of the new Lada Granta, according to the reviews of the owners, one can judge the main pros and cons of the restyled model.
Advantages:

- Availability of lateral support.
- Spacious trunk (especially in a station wagon).
- Pistons with grooves are installed, which eliminates damage to the valves.

Flaws:
- Sometimes the engine speed fluctuates.

On the technical side, the car has not undergone any major changes. It is based on the same platform inherited from Viburnum, which, although already a little outdated, is still relevant, as it has a number of serious advantages. This is confirmed by the fact that the Japanese company Datsun chose this particular platform as the platform for its new cars.
Engines
Two gasoline engines are still available as power units for the Granta: 8-valve, 87 hp. and 16-valve - 106 hp. Both engines have been installed on Lada cars for quite a long time, therefore, as they say, they are “tested by time.” There really are no serious complaints about them, they are quite high-torque, economical and run more than 200 thousand km without repair.
It is still unknown whether a new 1.8-liter engine will be installed on the grant; there has been no official information on this matter.
Transmission
For the updated Granta, as before, two types of transmission are offered - mechanical and robotic. If you like sharp acceleration, then you definitely need to choose a “mechanics”, since the “robot” is more suitable for comfortable and leisurely driving around the city, while in terms of gear shifting speed it loses a little. The type of gearbox has virtually no effect on fuel consumption; both versions consume an average of 7 liters per 100 km, which is quite modest.
Uncle Mattin's tricks
The matter was not limited to just changing nameplates. The sedan, liftback and the hatchback and station wagon that joined the family are now completely identical in appearance. The chief designer of AvtoVAZ, Steve Mattin, so skillfully painted them the face of Vesta that you won’t immediately understand that it’s not her at all. From now on, the rear of any modification of the Granta is decorated with large LADA letters, and the sedan also received a new trunk lid with a platform for the number and without frivolous arched stampings.

At the same time, the front panel of the updated model’s interior is not at all “Grant’s”, with a characteristic niche under the glove box and round ventilation deflectors, but more austere from “Kalina”. However, not the most accurate copy of it. The designers preferred a more noble white to the previous poisonous green color of the button illumination on the center console, and at the same time designed the instruments in the Vesta style. In general, the interior looks fresh, but not to say that it is much better than before. But I definitely like the new driver’s seat with developed lateral support bolsters, which finally has height adjustment.
The new cut of the stern improved the aerodynamics of the sedan by 1.5%. The area for the license plate has moved to the trunk lid, and the bumpers of all trim levels are now painted in body color.
