The headlight range control is at a very large angle. There are adjustable mirrors, they are huge, visibility is very good. The racks are minimal, they are practically invisible. There are headlight reflectors. They walk tightly and don't make any sounds. Power steering. The gearbox has changed a lot and makes virtually no sounds.

We continue our review of the Lada Granta. There are four types of engines to choose from. They have different power and number of valves. The lower limit is the same for everyone. Two eight-class 1.6-liter engines with a power of 80 (in some places 82 are indicated) horsepower and a power of 87 hp. s.. Its distinctive feature is a lightweight piston group. One of the largest in the class, but it is quite difficult to move, there is no handle, but there is something to grab onto to close it. Under the carpet in the trunk is a full-size spare tire. I just didn't have enough width of the asphalt! Granta jumped on the side of the road and flew off the highway backwards. I get out of the salon: thank God, I’m safe, nothing hurts. And Granta is healthy! We pulled the car out of the ravine - there was no damage! After such a flight, a couple of scratches on the sills and a small crack in the lower part of the rear bumper don’t count. So this model retained its legendary strength - even in “active” clothing.

Of course, Granta Drive Active is a compromise. The look is catchy, but the power is not enough. Handling is excellent, but the price to pay for it is unbearable rigidity. The sedan reads every pebble and joint with disgusting meticulousness. You can’t rush along a rough road like you would on a standard Grant—it’s uncomfortable!

Is it worth taking this Grant in the only available Comfort version with an AMT robot for 670 thousand rubles? You can if you want to show off. For this money you can get a basic Vesta, which, even in its standard form, handles much better and does not force you to sacrifice comfort.

If we talk about the Grants family, then the Cross version is more interesting. It has a better balance of handling and comfort, is more practical and looks just as good. And you will save another 50 thousand! So Granta Drive Active is a piece product.

ZAZ Chance is the only car that is at least somehow comparable in price to the Grant. A car with a 70-horsepower engine from Tavri costs from 265,000 rubles. With a more powerful 86-horsepower - 50 thousand more expensive. And the most advanced sedan with a 100-horsepower engine (1.4 l) and an automatic transmission costs from 335 to 410 thousand rubles.

No. 1 - Start in the cold

We didn’t even have to go to a special testing ground; the weather itself helped carry out the test. Let's see if it starts. It's minus 23 degrees outside, cold. The roads are half empty - not everyone was able to leave their yard.

We put the key in the ignition... Voila! Started up!

If you compare the grant with the classics, then of course the difference will be simply crazy. Everything is different here: everything is modern, everything is great. Each car has many built-in features, including daytime running lights, an immobilizer, an airbag, a full-size spare tire, and even ISOFIX child seat mounts.

But if you compare it with the same Chinese, it’s not so rosy, they also have everything, only they look “more cheerful” inside.

The main problem of the Lada Granta is how small parts work. Some things are done well, for example, the deflectors (one of the best in the class), and some things are frankly cheap - for example, the gearshift lever has a huge play, although the gear is engaged. The operation of some buttons is completely incomprehensible; all vibrations are transmitted directly to the controls. Wrong. The main thing is that it does not break, but this can only be verified over time.

Questionable pictures popped up on the Internet every now and then, and myths and rumors around her do not subside even now. This is a great hope and a big breakthrough for AvtoVAZ - the car is sold for a record low 229 thousand rubles and is designed to finally kill rear-wheel drive Lada cars.

The Lada Granta is such an important car for the Russian market that we decided to test it in an unusual way: we came up with several tests for it.

Engine, suspension and gearbox

Most video authors note the good dynamic characteristics of the car even in the basic version, which Granta calls Standard. In this configuration, it is equipped with an 8-valve engine producing 82 hp. With. This power unit is more than enough for the car in all driving modes. As a drawback, many of those who have taken a long test drive note that the engine is quite noisy at speeds above 2000.

Grant does not cause any particular complaints. This is understandable - it was manufactured with the participation of specialists from the Renault concern. The car is not bad, as can be seen in the video, it holds the road even at a decent speed, and “swallows” all the unevenness of the dirt road well. Ground clearance is noted by 80% of participants. It is 16 cm, which is quite enough even for our roads.

Until now, everything has only concerned the Lada Grant in the Standard configuration, but, of course, a large test drive cannot fail to take into account other modifications. Granta became the first domestic mass-produced car to have an automatic transmission. Togliatti designers adapted a Japanese box for it, adapting it to our operating conditions. The manufacturer claims the high reliability of this unit.

The automatic transmission is four-speed and, as especially noted by motorists who tested the car, has positions 1 and 2, intended for off-road conditions and traffic jams, respectively. Overdrive is also considered a plus. In addition, the video shows that the shift lever handle is quite massive, which is appreciated by the male drivers. But because of the automatic gearbox, the ground clearance decreased by 2 cm. The car became somewhat heavier, and its body had to be strengthened.

Somehow it turned out that I bought this!))) In general, I have complaints about the steering wheel, brakes and the howling gearbox... But in general it’s good for getting your butt to work and back. In short, we are getting used to the behavior of the car... The plans are to throw out the jeep-like struts and add controllability with the help of spacers, etc., and then we’ll see.

I’ve been driving a Granta liftback for more than a year and a half, I always try to use good spare parts in case of repairs, but consider breakdowns a rarity for us, considering that I drive it shamelessly both on business and at work. I think I'm constantly driving, but the Lada holds up well! In general, I consider my grant to be the best option for the Russian automobile industry and the indicators are obvious. So much on the road and still be the same peppy car!

As for noise insulation: you can communicate with a person on the street directly from your car, and it doesn’t matter whether your doors are open or not. The ground clearance is good, but the threshold on the driver’s side will not agree with me (jammed). In general, the car is ok, I have never owned foreign cars, I have nothing more to say.

A beautiful and practical spacious liftback body. A robot is just a fairy tale, tearing the jaws of those who scold it is better than mechanics and more practical than an automatic machine. And in traffic jams, and in slush, and through mud - the car simply becomes universal. The engine is a separate issue, the 27 engine with 106 horses confidently accelerates the car to maximum speed, which is very helpful on the highway, and you can also very confidently use it for aggressive driving around the city!

The high ground clearance of the car allows you to ignore a large number of Pripyat on the road. The machine is very maintainable, spare parts cost pennies, it can be repaired with a dozen tools, almost on the knee. Assembly on the body without any complaints, while disassembling the interior - I was amazed at how all the wires were secured, everything was in harnesses, and in other fastening materials, in general the car is above all praise.

The base car is equipped with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with eight valves, which allows it to produce only 87 horsepower. For an additional fee, you can install a sixteen-valve modification, which is capable of showing a return of 98 or 106 forces, which is much better. For the initial engine, only five-speed manual transmission is available, and for more powerful versions there is also a four-speed automatic. Forces are always transferred to the front axle of the car. A test drive of the car showed a slight decrease in fuel consumption.

The main thing that catches your eye when looking at the car from the front is the new front bumper, which is also painted in the color of the body. Actually, nothing else has changed in the “face” of the car, but the new air intake and areas for fog lights literally transformed the good old Granta. And only for the better. And by the way, there will be no black bumpers on the new liftback at all, even in the cheapest “Standard” configuration. And in profile, the Lada Granta 2022 liftback looks much more harmonious than a sedan. First of all, due to the sloping roof line and original rear doors: the designers raised the window sill line and lowered the top line slightly. As a result, the silhouette of the sedan against the backdrop of the liftback began to look so unsightly that the owners of 4-door Grants, keenly interested in the new product, shook their heads dejectedly. Like, if they had known that the five-door would be so interesting, they would have held off on buying a sedan.

In addition, the liftback received original exterior mirrors. Turn signal repeaters are now built into them, and the mirror lenses (as well as the side windows) become less dirty. At the rear, the new product is decorated with more compact lights and a fog light built into the bumper. It is curious that the basic configuration of the car does not have a wiper. And that's why.

The angle of the rear part of the body was carefully worked out from an aerodynamic point of view. At the same time, VAZ designers assure that the sloping rear window in rainy weather is perfectly cleaned by air flows. That is why the basic “Standard” configuration does not have a rear windshield wiper. However, it is installed on cars in the “Norma” and “Lux” versions.

Interior decoration has always been a headache and the main problem of all AvtoVAZ cars. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to find any fundamental differences from the previous version of the car. The new Lada Granta liftback 2022 model year can be finished exclusively with fabrics and plastic. There are also squeaking sounds when driving on uneven roads, and all joints are strongly felt when you run your finger over them. The problem is with multimedia. Without additional payment there will be nothing here except the simplest music.

The car's center console is designed ugly and does not evoke any positive emotions. It is a slightly protruding rectangular panel on which buttons, washers and deflectors are scattered. It may look neat, but I don’t really want to touch it all. In the extended version you can even find a multimedia display and climate control washers, but they don’t help the situation much.

Everything is sad and with seats. Here you can see strictly fabric seats with rather hard filling, which are very problematic to sit in for a long time, so the car is not at all suitable for traveling without breaks. There is also lateral support just for show. The range of additional options is not rich here either. The base has only mechanical adjustments for the front seats. For an additional fee, they can be heated here. The second row is represented by a simple sofa, which only has headrests and the ability to fold.

The good news for car buyers is that the luggage compartment, even in its standard form, can accommodate 440 liters of cargo. If you remove the rear seat, the total trunk volume increases to 1,200 liters, which is quite good for such a compact car.

The Kalina platform has been seriously modified, the dimensions have been increased, now the length is 4260 mm, height 1500 mm, and width 1700 mm. The silhouette of its predecessor can easily be seen in the outline of the new product, but the front and rear parts are completely new.

The new hood with ribs has been raised, so Granta looks more modern and elegant. The design of the front part is complemented by a bumper with built-in fog lights and air intakes. Of course, in the simplest version of the Grant, buyers will receive a bumper without foglights and even unpainted, in the case of the Standard package, but all these steps are aimed at achieving the lowest possible price.

The rear of the Granta is less elegant, but the disadvantages of the massive design are more than compensated by increased practicality. The Granta has a trunk volume of 480 liters, which is one of the best indicators in the “B” class. As a design solution, it is worth noting the curves on the trunk lid, which not only emphasize the overall design, but also add rigidity to the lid. But the rear lights have so far turned out to be unsuccessful; their design looks good, but as the Granta test drive showed, the lights fog up quite seriously in the rain. We hope that this problem will be resolved by AVTOVAZ itself in the near future.

Granta's interior is a combination of simplicity and functionality. The minimum possible number of hard plastic parts made the interior of the new product not the most beautiful, but it was cheap and with a minimum number of potential sources of noise, crickets and squeaks.

The three-spoke steering wheel does not have any electronic controls, but this was predictable in such a budget car. The instrument panel is quite informative, everything is in its place, and the readings are quickly readable.

Our own Lada Granta test drive confirmed that the front seats of the car are quite comfortable, but they clearly lack lateral support. In the back row, if desired, you can accommodate three people, but without much comfort - they are designed for the comfort of only two passengers.

According to the manufacturer, the Lada Granta consumes 7.5 liters per 100 km. We will fill exactly that much and check whether the car can drive 100 kilometers on this fuel.

The on-board computer immediately made its contribution. At 7.5 liters, he “predicted” 80 kilometers for us, but not the promised 100. The road will show who is right and who is wrong.

It was impossible to trust the forecast of the on-board computer, since it took calculations of the latest expenses (and then we were actively testing the car).

When there were 30 kilometers left in the city, some more shortcomings became clear:

  • the ugly work of the wipers, who manage to move out of sync across the windshield, and at the same time do not clean anything
  • the scorched interior optimization, which was actively advertised at AvtoVAZ, did not work. Despite the fact that the number of parts inside is significantly reduced, they still continue to hold together. Moreover, this happens not only while driving, but also at idle.

A small traffic jam can ruin our fuel saving plans. While we were making circles around Moscow, all our batteries ran out and the test had to be stopped. Granta almost made it - she drove 92 kilometers. But this is around the city and in traffic jams. But on the highway, consumption can be within 6.5 liters, which is nice.
