Starline alarm system does not open the car with the key fob: what to do?

If the Starline alarm does not open the car with the key fob, the problem may be as follows:

  1. The key fob itself is faulty;
  2. The remote control needs to be re-registered;
  3. There is interference in the radio signal path;
  4. The problem is related to the battery (discharged, replaced, etc.);
  5. The central lock is broken;
  6. Incorrect installation of the security kit;
  7. Problem with the wiring (incorrect connection, broken link that is responsible for opening/closing doors, etc.). In this case, you will not be able to close the car;
  8. Alarm diagnostics required.

Next, we will analyze in detail each reason why the car does not open with the Starline alarm key fob.

The keychain is broken

What could have happened to the control panel?

  • First of all, check the batteries. Do you remember the last time you changed them? If it’s been a while, we recommend installing new ones.

  • Perform a visual inspection of the key fob. At the same time, try to remember if any trouble happened to him. For example, whether the device fell into water or was subjected to strong mechanical stress. Look for traces of impacts and scratches on the case. Make sure the display works and displays standard icons. If suspicions are confirmed, the remote control must be taken for repair. Or buy a new one.

  • Check to see if the plug located under the driver's seat is disconnected. If yes, stick it in place.

Lack of wave transmission capability

Sometimes situations arise when certain conditions do not allow the signal to be transmitted from the key fob to the starline radio. This situation can also include a dead battery on the control panel, but this is far from the only reason for the inability to transmit waves.

If the key fob fails, then solving the problem will be much more difficult, since you will need to purchase and configure a new control panel. In some cases, specialists can simply fix the problem, but it is almost impossible to solve the problem yourself. This car can only be opened with a key.

The remote needs to be reprogrammed

Sometimes the Starline key fob does not open the car because it needs to be reprogrammed. The algorithm for registering keys for each Starline alarm model is specified in the operating manual. For example, here are the instructions for Starline A91:

  • Press the Valet service key 7 times (located in a secluded place in the cabin, near the driver);

  • Start the car and wait for the beep sound 7 times. Done, you have entered programming mode;
  • Press buttons 2 and 3 on the key fob at the same time and hold until one short beep sounds;

  • If there is a second remote control, immediately repeat the previous manipulation on it (interval no more than 5 seconds);
  • When you have registered all the key fobs, turn off the ignition;
  • If everything is in order, the car will flash its lights 5 times in a friendly manner.

Abnormal opening/closing of doors

In some cases, the alarm is triggered when the door is closed. In this case, the key fob may display information that the door is open. When you close it again and press the corresponding button on the key fob, the car immediately opens and the alarm goes off.

The problem is caused not so much by the system itself, but by the adjustment of the driver's door actuator. It cannot reach the standard traction, and the limit switch does not allow the central locking to open the doors. In this case, there are 2 options:

  • Remove the driver's side door trim and adjust the actuator on the rod.
  • Replace the two-wire activator with a similar system, but consisting of five wires. After this, you need to give him control of the central locking from the standard key fob. It is worth noting that this method is the most effective.
  • After the car has been idle for a long time and the security system has been disarmed, a problem may arise when the doors automatically close immediately. The problem is solved after pressing the open button a second time.

In addition, the wiring insulation may be damaged and the fuse on the green and blue wires in the central locking connector may have burned out. The presence of a short to ground contributes to the spontaneous opening and closing of doors. The problem may also lie in the equipment being in service mode. In this case, the shock sensor will not work. In this case, the key fob will notify you of a malfunction with a signal displaying a wrench. This icon is selected by button 3 and disabled by button 2.

Interference in the radio signal path

If the Starline A91 alarm does not open the doors with the key fob, and you have made sure that the key is in working order, check if there are any obvious interferences in the radio signal path:

  • Large buildings;
  • Iron bars (fences, hedges, fences);
  • Buildings with glass finishing;
  • The car is standing on a high hill, and you and the remote control are in the lowland.

Also, interference occurs in closed or underground parking lots, in areas where large reinforced concrete structures are located.

The possibility of a radio unit failure should not be ruled out. The latter should be diagnosed at a service center. Well, a simple approach to the car will help resolve the problem with interference in the signal path.

Central locking doesn't work

If Starline a9 does not open the doors from the key fob, but recognizes the commands, there may be a problem with the central locking. How to make sure that the alarm system is “friendly” with the remote control? Pay attention to the key fob display. If, when arming/disarming the car, all indicators are displayed in normal mode, but the doors do not open, then the security system is working normally, but the lock is acting up.

In other words, Starline opens the car, but the central locking does not work. Why could this happen? Most often due to wiring problems. First of all, check the area where the wire is pulled through the post into the door to see if there is a break or bend. Also, if the cable was laid incorrectly, it could be interrupted by the window regulator. Also, the wires, especially in the area of tight twists, could have oxidized.

Damaged wires should be replaced.

General characteristics of Starline key fobs of different models

Almost all Starline signaling devices sold in the CIS (a91, a93, a9, a94) are equipped with two key fobs:

The main key fob can be identified by its characteristic small display and the presence of three or more control buttons. Unlike the additional control panel, it is equipped with a small antenna. This variety is always released with feedback.

The main key fob performs an indication function. But its display is intended not only for ease of setup and signaling of intrusion into the car.

Additionally, it performs the following functions:

The number of control buttons depends on the model: the more multifunctional the “signal” is, the greater the number of keys it has. The main key fobs can have up to 5 buttons. The additional control panel does not have an information display and is equipped with three or four keys.

With it you can perform basic actions:

  • activate car security;
  • turn off the alarm;
  • turn off the siren, etc.

Manufacturers can equip the alarm with an additional key fob - a copy of the main one with similar functionality. But this occurs in expensive car alarm models.

Incorrect alarm installation

If the Starline alarm does not open the doors with the key fob, and unusual icons are displayed on the display, it is worth checking that the security kit is installed correctly. The most common mistake is that the central module cable is intertwined with other wires. According to the correct installation technique, it should lie on its own.

As a result, due to interference on the key fob frequency, Starline behaves completely unpredictably. Disassemble the central panel, get to the system unit and untangle the electrical circuits. Don't be alarmed if you find a tangle. Methodically disassemble the nodes and place everything neatly. Place the alarm harness separately.

Wiring problem

If the car does not open with the Starline alarm key fob, we recommend that you carefully go through the wiring. Inspect the contacts, connections, plugs. We also recommend checking the power supply to the limit switches. By the way, if you have already diagnosed the wiring in the central locking area, half the battle is done.

Yes, if the Starline alarm closes normally, but does not open the doors (that is, the system only works in one direction), most likely a fuse has blown somewhere.

Technical methods for unlocking engine starting

The engine starting system in a car alarm is blocked by:

  • via CAN bus with complex programming of modes;
  • by starter (starter solenoid relay circuit breaker relay);
  • along the fuel pump circuit;
  • along the power supply circuits of injectors and injectors.

There are more sophisticated interlocks: in the limit switch of automatic transmission modes, in the power and communication circuits of the immobilizer, in the break in the circuits of the engine control unit. Such locks are made either on an individual order or during self-installation. The bad thing is that in most cases they are forgotten, and then unlocking them is extremely difficult.

In any case, work must begin by gaining access to the head unit of the car alarm. It is usually located under the dashboard, behind the fuse and relay box, to the left of the pedals in the lower left corner of the cabin, behind the trim. The place chosen is usually extremely inconvenient for work.

Additional fuses and relays should “hang” near the head unit. You should start by checking them. Sometimes it takes a lot of effort to get to them. You need to soberly assess your capabilities. Something like this may appear before your eyes.

It is necessary to separate all the standard wires from the alarm system, if possible, remove it closer.

It is necessary to check the connections between the alarm wiring and the standard electrical wiring of the vehicle. If the connections are poor, the connection may be broken.

The quality of the alarm installation can be judged by the quality of insulation of the connection points. Experienced installers place the wire connections in heat-shrinkable tubes (more mechanically reliable, moisture does not penetrate into them).

If an alarm system is installed that operates via a CAN bus, when this bus is disconnected, the blocking may be removed automatically. You should check this option. To do this, it is necessary to disconnect all contacts from the alarm head unit.

If this option does not work, you need to look for all the relays that the alarm serves. They can “hang” next to the alarm unit or be fastened with a plastic clamp. If the alarm is installed poorly, the relay may look something like this.

In order to restore the blocking, you can close the blocking contacts of the relay yourself. To do this, you need to use the relay circuit located on its body. You can carry out this operation without a circuit if you have a multimeter at hand.

As a last resort, you can use a screwdriver or knife to open the plastic relay cover (there are latches there). Then you should press the relay armature with your finger, closing the contacts forcibly. Before this, of course, you should check whether the relay is activated when the ignition is turned on or started. If it works, opening it will be useless.

If your car is equipped with an alarm system with auto start, a possible reason for the start failure may be a malfunction of the immobilizer bypass. The electrical circuit for its inclusion can be organized using a sequential method.

In this case, a break in the wires leading to it can lead to the standard immobilizer blocking the start. Geographically, the lineman is usually located under the steering column, or hidden behind the relay and fuse box. You need to find it and check the wiring. If a keyless crawler is used, a software failure of the device may occur. Then you need to temporarily disable the auto-start function on the alarm.

Malfunction of the central unit

If you have checked everything you can, but the Starline A93 alarm system or any other model does not open the doors, you will have to assume the most unpleasant thing - the central unit has broken down. In other words, the brain of the entire system became “sick.” We do not recommend performing brain surgery on your own if you do not have special knowledge. Go to the installers or the official Starline service center.

Other options

Above we listed why the Starline alarm system does not open the car, and also told us what to do in each case. These were the main explanations, but there are a couple of non-obvious ones:

  1. The reason that the key fob does not open the doors could be improper operation of the alarm system. For example, if the car owner tried to put Starline in security mode with the door open. When he slams it, the locks will remain open. But, when you try to disarm them, they will be blocked. The system will refuse to open the car. This will have to be done forcibly, against the backdrop of a siren;
  2. Sometimes Starline does not open the car with the key fob after using the autostart option. The root of the problem again lies in the incorrect connection of the wires. For the first time you will have to open the car with the key. If the failure continues, go to an auto electrician.

Well, now you know what to do if the Starline key fob does not open the car. We hope you can resolve the problem on your own.

Replacing the VAZ 2106 universal joint

How to program and link a Starline A9 car alarm key fob?

The cardan crosspieces must only be replaced, since the bearing needles and the outer and inner parts of the race wear out, which leads to the formation of play. This indicates the impossibility and inappropriateness of restoring the part. If characteristic signs indicate that the cardan joints need to be replaced, you will need to dismantle the shaft itself, and then begin repairs. For the upcoming work you will need the following tools and materials:

  • open-end wrench 13;
  • head 13 with a knob or ratchet;
  • copper or aluminum extension;
  • hammer;
  • compression pliers with thin jaws;
  • universal puller;
  • chisel;
  • new crosspiece;
  • lubricant “Fiol-1” or “CV joint-4”;
  • large screwdriver.

Removing the cardan

On the VAZ “Six” the driveshaft is mounted to the rear axle gearbox, and closer to the gearbox the driveshaft is held by an outboard bearing. Removing the shaft from the car is carried out as follows:

  1. Unscrew the cardan mount with a 13 key.

Removing the cross

After dismantling the driveshaft, you can immediately begin disassembling the crosspiece:

  1. We mark the universal joint forks to avoid disturbing the factory balancing during assembly. To apply marks, you can use paint (pictured below) or hit it lightly with a chisel.
  2. We remove the retaining rings using special pliers.

We install the hinge and shaft in the following order:

  1. We remove the cups from the new cross and insert it into the eyes.

Video: replacing the cardan cross on a VAZ 2101–07

The cardan crosspieces are filled with lubricant from the factory. However, when replacing a product, I always syringe the hinge after the repair. There will be no excess lubrication, and its lack will lead to increased wear. For crosspieces, it is recommended to use “Fiol-2U” or “No. 158”, but in extreme cases “Litol-24” will also do. Although I know car owners who use Litol for both crosspieces and spline joints. When injecting, I pump the lubricant until it begins to come out from under the seals. According to the regulations, the hinges must be serviced every 10 thousand kilometers.

You don't have to be an experienced auto mechanic to replace universal joints. The desire of the car owner and step-by-step instructions will help identify the malfunction and carry out repairs in a garage without making mistakes.

Removing and inspecting the driveshaft was discussed in the article - “How to remove the driveshaft of a Gazelle car”
