It's no secret that the KIA Rio and Hyundai Solaris are essentially twins, especially in technical terms. But if Hyundai is aimed at sedate buyers over the age of 30, then Rio was created with an eye on the youth audience. This determined its design, made in the style of “flowing lines”. A tiger-nose radiator grille, long and narrow headlights, an air intake with a chrome baffle and fog lights are what attract buyers.

The profile of the car is slightly inclined forward, there are spectacular stampings along the side panels, the chrome of the window opening adds ambiance, the roof is slightly tilted back, and the rear, with its large lights, is very harmonious. All this merges into a modern and fresh image that attracts young people so much.

Lada Vesta, however, is in no way inferior. But in it, sophistication is replaced by aggressiveness. Classically shaped headlights, an air intake and a radiator grille, combined together with the curve of the chrome lines, create the image of a modern sedan. Moreover, this appearance will suit any buyer, regardless of age.

A powerful front end is Vesta’s trump card!

The profile is no less impressive. You just have to look at the X-shaped lines of the panels and the rims to immediately fall in love with this car. But the stern didn’t disappoint either – the straight lines of the lights look great against the background of the chrome-plated LADA letters.

But the profile of the Lada is no worse.

Model specifications

Lada Vesta can be filled with 92-octane gasoline, but its brother is advised to use 95-gasoline, which is more expensive, considering the price of fuel. Both the sedan and the hatchback have front-wheel drive, the same speed - 4200 rpm. and acquired many auxiliary systems: ABS, ESP, etc.

The difference between Vesta is that it has an enlarged tank - 55 liters, the body has one less door than the hatchback - 4 (X Ray has 5), its average consumption is less, only 6.9 liters, but, unfortunately, only 2 airbags.

The Lada X-Ray has a smaller tank - 50 liters, a higher consumption - 7.2 liters, but it has 4 airbags, including side airbags, which Vesta does not have.

Difference in dimensions between VESTA and X RAY

The width of the models is identical, 1.764 m, but the length is different, Vesta is lower - 1.497 m, than X-ray - 1.57 m, but longer - 4.41 m and 4.165 m for the second model. The sedan's wheelbase is 2,635 m, while the hatchback's is 2,592 m.

In terms of ground clearance, the X Ray wins, it has 19.5 cm, while Vesta has an acceptable figure of 17.8 cm. The trunks differ greatly in volume, Vesta was given 480 liters. capacity, and XRAY is only 361 liters. But you need to take into account the advantageously lower weight of X-ray, which is 1190 kg, when Vesta weighs 1 ton 230 kg.

From all the mentioned indicators, we can conclude that Vesta, due to its greater length and, accordingly, wheelbase, is more comfortable, but the X-ray has increased ground clearance, and therefore greater cross-country ability. And also Vesta with a large trunk is more spacious and convenient for transportation, and the X-ray, in turn, looks larger, although in fact it is lighter, which is also a plus.

But when you look inside the cars, you can see, if not outright plagiarism, then very similar motives in the interior design. It is noticeable that AvtoVAZ designers were impressed by the inner world of the Korean model.

The dashboard, center console, 3-spoke steering wheel are all pretty similar. Of course, one cannot deny Vesta’s interior originality and originality, but there are certainly similarities. On the other hand, both models are ok with ergonomics, and there are no complaints about visibility either. The finishing materials are of quite high quality, as for class B. But there is definitely more space in the Lada, thanks to the larger dimensions and longer wheelbase. Therefore, in this regard, we can put an equal sign, but with a slight advantage for the Lada Vesta.

But the interior of the Lada Vesta is no worse.

Appearance

The same design idea, similar lines on the body. This decision of designers and engineers is due to the high popularity of Vesta, which is why they wanted to do something similar for 100 percent success. The front parts of the cars are almost the same, similar, including the hood and side parts with “X” patterns, which give the Lada a more modern look.

The sedan is more dynamic, good for young people, it also has better noise and anti-corrosion protection. The Lada X-ray looks solid in appearance, suitable for wealthy people, the front part is slightly shortened. One of the main drawbacks for car enthusiasts is small-diameter wheels, or rather large wheel arches, against which the wheels seem smaller than they actually are. The model should be modified with improved noise protection and wider wheels.

Mitsubishi copies Lada Vesta. Second concept

During the Tokyo Motor Show in 2013, Mitsubishi presented to the public the XR-PHEV concept car in the crossover coupe body, on the design of which all subsequent models of the Japanese manufacturer will be based for several years. And if not all, then Outlander or ASX for sure.

Everything is fine, the Japanese are great. The concept turned out to be high-tech and beautiful. But why am I writing this news on a website page dedicated to the Russian car LADA VESTA?

Here's why:

Did it remind you of the ICSREY concept? If anyone doesn’t know, let me remind you that all new LADA models, including our LADA VESTA, will be based on the design of the IKSRAY concept presented at the Moscow Motor Show.

And moreover, the design was stolen from AVTOVAZ, and not vice versa. Firstly, ICSRAY was first presented at the Moscow Motor Show in 2012, and the world saw the XR-PHEV in 2013. Secondly, the former head of the LADA car design studio in Moscow, Belgian Thomas Beakwood, was appointed head of one of MITSUBISHI’s design centers. And pay attention, even the names are similar: XRAY and XR-PHEV.

This is how AVTOVAZ chief designer Steve Mattin commented on the current situation in February in an interview with a journalist from GAZETA.RU:

— Steve, LADA VESTA and the whole concept of ICSRAY is very important to you. Aren't you jealous of your project for MITSUBISHI?

- Of course, I am completely frustrated and very upset.

Remember the design manager of the Moscow studio Thomas Bigwood? Currently, he has become one of the leaders of the MITSUBISHI design center. Now access to AVTOVAZ materials is denied to him.

But I can say that, most likely, the presented MITSUBISHI project will not be implemented. I am well informed and have my own reliable sources. Back in 2012, during the Moscow Motor Show, we showed everyone our plans. We showed our DNA, strategy, brand face. We talked a lot with the media and talked about our plans. We had no idea what MITSUBISHI was doing and we were the first. And if they copied us, then I don’t know what to say to that. The appearance of our car is registered.

After reading these lines, I decided that the Japanese manufacturer would take action to punish its new employee, Thomas Beakwood, and the design would be changed.

But just recently news appeared that a new concept will be shown at the exhibition in Geneva, which is a continuation of the previous one - MITSUBISHI XR-PHEV II.

Apparently the Japanese are not going to change anything and the high similarity between LADA and MITSUBISHI remains.

Steve said that the appearance of ICSRAY was pre-registered. Based on his words, we can conclude that the management of AVTOVAZ can sue the company from the land of the rising sun and will most likely win.

The Geneva Motor Show will take place from 5 to 15 March 2015. Perhaps representatives of the Asian automaker will give some comments on the current situation.

In a February interview with Bo Andersson, a journalist asked what management would do.

On March 9, comments from the head of MITSUBISHI in RUSSIA appeared. According to him, they are not particularly worried about theft.

But while the Japanese are showing concepts, AVTOVAZ is preparing to start production of the LADA VESTA. At the OPP in Togliatti, the first pre-production batch began to be assembled in mid-November 2014. But the new product will be mass-produced at the IZHAVTO plant, and recently a “wedding” of the body and chassis took place there. But the car was not completely assembled, only partially. And later a spy photo of the assembled car appeared, where for the first time we can see not a model, but a fully assembled car.

After the official assembly ceremony, journalists were called to the AVTOVAZ design center and were shown models of the LADA VESTA in hatchback and station wagon bodies.

Characteristics of VESTA and X RAY

The design of LADA Vesta compares favorably with all previous AvtoVAZ models. The future appearance of the Lada was shaped by the British designer, author of popular models from the Mercedes-Benz and Volvo brands, Stephen Mattin. The modern, recognizable appearance of LADA Vesta is not inferior to the appearance of its competitors. The choice is determined only by the taste of the buyer.

Interior of competitors

In the basic configuration, the interior decoration of all presented cars differs little from each other. These include fabric upholstery for seats and armrests, an on-board computer showing air temperature, engine speed and mileage, a 12 V socket in the front, a case for glasses, door lights and front power windows.

Specifications

The weakest engine in the line is the Skoda Rapid - 75 hp. With. This is a good option for a small car for getting around the city. For comfort, the cabin now has air conditioning, climate control, rain and light sensors, a glove compartment with a cooling system, an armrest, an eyeglass case and a mirror in the visor.

How will Xray Vesta respond? It has fog lights at maximum speed, a retractable compartment under the passenger seat, a double floor in the trunk, a heated glove compartment and even enhanced tinting of the rear windows.

Price

Both models are budget, in the basic set Vesta costs 529 thousand rubles, in luxury equipment 672 thousand rubles. If you want to paint your car in the signature lime color, you will have to pay an additional 30 thousand.

For a Lada X-ray in basic equipment you will pay 589 thousand, and in the maximum version 742 thousand. If you want to choose a metallic color, the additional payment will be 10 thousand.

The conclusion is obvious: Vesta is cheaper, given the minimal difference between the trim levels of different models.

It's also a matter of build quality and details. For example, on my Grant, the switches and buttons completely suck, but on the new Prior they are different and pleasant to the touch.
