What does a significant increase in wheel size actually do?

The increased wheel width provides greater stability. If the tires on the new wheel are good, the car will grip the track perfectly at any speed. Also, the increased diameter has a positive effect on the stability of the ride on the highway and the passage of small irregularities. Many potholes that previously hampered your comfort will become invisible on new wheels. Also a big advantage is the appearance of the car. Otherwise, all that remains is to list the shortcomings:

• acceleration will be significantly more difficult, since the engine will have to be loaded much more to overcome the resistance of the wider and larger wheels on the Priora;
• fuel consumption will increase for the same reasons; on a car with a small unit, consumption can increase by 30-40%, which depends on the condition of the engine and the type of tire;
• control will be somewhat more difficult, and if you have a power steering, the latter can break down very often, since the load on the system will increase significantly, and this will lead to costs;
• braking may lose its sharpness, you will have to wait longer for the car to stop, the braking distance will increase, and the wear of the brake pads on the car will increase;
• the cost of tires will increase significantly, since 17 tires often cost twice as much as rubber on stock 14 wheels, which will greatly affect the operating budget of the car.

These are the kind of troubles that can await a person who decides to change the wheels on a Priora to 17 inches. The same applies to 16 disks, which give approximately the same results. If you want to avoid such problems, but still increase the wheel size, you should buy 15-piece alloy wheels with the same tire width and approximately the same final diameter. That is, the height of the rubber profile should be slightly less than on the stock size.

• you will have to get used to all the habits of the car, including braking and steering, so first you should drive along less active streets and try all the driving modes;
• the ground clearance will not change too noticeably, so when undertaking this whole change for the sake of raising the car, it is worth abandoning this idea and applying other methods;
• turning the steering wheel on a stationary car without power steering will become an almost impossible task, the ride comfort for the driver will change significantly, and this is also not the best change.

Wheels suitable for Priora

What wheels can be installed on the Priora if you want to replace the factory ones? AvtoVAZ does not recommend tire sizes other than those specified in the operating manual, which we indicated above! But the manufacturer allows wide wheels on the Priora. But only if you change the rim width.

For thirteen-inch wheels, it is allowed to increase the width from 5 to 5.5 inches. And for fourteen-inch wheels, it is allowed to use wheels that are narrower or wider than standard - either 5-inch wide or 6-inch wide instead of the standard 5.5J wide. For fifteen-inch wheels, it is not recommended to change the rim width!

Also, according to AvtoVAZ, it is not worth changing the wheel offset. In fact, you can only install large wheels on a Priora without violating the manufacturer’s requirements if you have 13 or 14-inch wheels.
