How to disable the speedometer on the Lada Largus 2022

Where is the speed sensor on the Lada Granta?

So where is the Lada Granta speed sensor located? It is logical that the part associated with the transmission of data on the vehicle’s speed, idling, and fuel consumption modes is located somewhere near or directly on the vehicle’s gearbox housing.

However, in order to personally see this unit on Grant’s car by opening the hood, it is necessary to perform the following preparatory procedure: the inlet air supply pipe from the air filter to the throttle assembly is unscrewed and dismantled.

This way you can see where the speed sensor is located on the Grant. Now at the bottom of the gearbox housing you can see a part with a suitable plug and wiring. Another way to get acquainted with where the speed sensor is located on the Grant is to watch the video: where is the speed sensor on the Lada Granta.

Speed identifier in vehicle design

Repairing any kind or replacing a speed sensor is a simple procedure, but it requires a clear understanding of its structure in the car’s design. Without knowing such information, answer questions like:

  • How to check sensor
    for proper operation?
  • Where is sensor
    ?
  • How to remove the speed sensor?
  • What is the connection diagram for the speed sensor?
  • How to replace the speed sensor?

To begin with, let us repeat that the location of the speed sensor on almost all cars involves its installation in the speedometer drive (often called the sensor drive). Often, to find the speed ID, it is enough to find the wire coming from one of the front wheels and follow it to the place where it is next connected. The device he approached is a speed sensor, which is often located at the gearbox. The part almost always looks similar to the images below:

Having answered the question about where the identifier is located, you can already think about what the pinout of the speed sensor is. The typical option involves the use of wires going to:

  • the sensor
    itself is from the speedometer drive;
  • directly to the speedometer;
  • main relay;
  • "ground";
  • controller;
  • in some cases - other machine components.

Often the contact diagram of the speed sensor corresponds to the following picture:

As you can see, there are no particular difficulties in terms of location and connection of the device. Read more about how to check and remove the speed sensor below.

Re: How to turn off the speedometer?

Absolutely correct - information about speed and mileage is taken from the ABS sensors (and the most interesting thing is from the two front ones = turning off one right or left does nothing, and the information disappears for both - I tried it on another car, but I think the principle is the same when driving now). When the front sensor connector is disconnected, the “ABS fault” icon will naturally appear, but then after reconnecting it will go out. (Before trips to maintenance, I used to usually disconnect the battery at night). Good luck.

disabled ABS by turning off fuse F19. ABS turned off, but the speedometer also turned off!!

the most wrong way.

the speedometer is not so bad. EBD (brake force distribution) will also turn off, and in addition to the “ABS” lamp, the “brake system failure” lamp will light up.

you need to disable ABS exactly as I said

vess

by disconnecting one of the wheel speed sensors.

Re: Disabled ABS!!!

Why turn it off? ABS works well on a grant; you can put the rear into a skid by moving the steering wheel. The brake performance is so good that you brake faster than the flow.

Re: Disabled ABS!!!

ABS on Grant is a very necessary thing. While riding Grants without ABS, I noticed that when braking sharply on an icy road, it was difficult to hold the rear. The rear axle of the Grant is very prone to drift. I won’t undertake to discuss the reason; perhaps the overall weight distribution along the axles plays a role.

and instructions for turning the Largus OBD2 mileage

To purchase the device, go to product: Lada Largus speedometer winder

The Lada Largus speedometer knob is connected to the vehicle's diagnostic connector. Cars Lada Largus, Reanault Logan, Sandero, Duster, Nissan Almera are made on the same Renault Logan platform of the 2005 model. In the glove compartment of all these cars there is an OBD2 diagnostic connector, to which the speedometer knob will be connected.

To operate the speedometer knob for Lada Largus, you need to connect one wire from the instrument panel to the diagnostic connector. This modification is a prerequisite for the operation of the speedometer twister for the Lada Largus; without it, the winder will not work. !!!

The installation process of the Largus winder is shown in detail in the video clip that we have prepared for you

You can purchase this device in our store for 2500 rubles. This price already includes all transportation costs, so no matter what region you are in, the cost will not change. The coiler comes with everything you need for connection: a wire with a contact for the diagnostic connector and a detailed diagram with pictures.

Prepayment is NOT required to order. Payment for goods occurs upon receipt at the post office.

You can place an order through the website's shopping cart or by calling our FREE phone number. We can also write to Viber, WhatsApp number. You can also do this in the JivoSite chat in the lower right corner.

Rewinding the Largus speedometer in OBD2 or in the cigarette lighter, which is better?

Unlike the cheaper cigarette lighter twisters that other sites offer for this car, our winder connects to the OBD2 diagnostic connector and has a more complex circuit design, created specifically for this car. The advantage of our solution is the connection method.

In our version, there are no “left” wires hanging from under the panel and going nowhere in the car. The crank works not only while on the move, and to use it in a parking lot you do not need to break any wires.

In addition, our company, one of the few, provides everything you need for connection, provides technical support, and does not just try to sell something that you will then have to think about how and where to connect. Think about it!

Similarly, for the speedometer to work, modifications to the wiring on Skoda Octavia, Skoda Rapid, and also UAZ Bukhanka cars are required. It is worth noting that most of the cars on which the speedometer twist is mounted are new cars that are covered by a factory warranty. If all modifications are made carefully, this will not be detected by the official dealer and will not affect the warranty.

Briefly: you need to remove the instrument panel, connect an additional wire to the instrument panel wiring harness, bring the additional wire to the diagnostic connector, insert a new contact with the wire into the diagnostic connector, insert a twist for Lada Largus into the diagnostic connector for testing.

Details with pictures

1. Before connecting the speedometer knob for Lada Largus, Reanault Logan, Sandero, Duster, Nissan Almera, it is recommended to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. To work, you will need a screwdriver or L-shaped TORX keys (asterisks), wire cutters, a thin flat screwdriver or awl, and electrical tape. An additional wire and contact for the diagnostic connector are included with the speedometer knob.

2. Remove the top cover of the steering wheel housing. To do this, you need to unscrew two self-tapping screws, which are accessible through holes in the lower cover of the steering wheel housing.

3. Remove the plastic trim of the center console by picking up the lower right corner with a thin screwdriver or knife and pulling it towards you. The cover itself is entirely secured with latches, made of thin plastic, bends easily, although it is quite durable. Peel off carefully around the perimeter.

4. Remove the lining of the left driver's air duct of the Lada Largus and the lining in the area of the ignition switch, carefully picking them up with a screwdriver or knife and pulling it out yourself. The panels are completely secured with latches.

5. Unscrew the two screws on the instrument panel trim. Access is inconvenient. On many Lada Largus cars, where an alarm system was previously installed, these screws may no longer be there.

6. Pull towards you and remove the instrument panel cover.

7. Unscrew the four screws securing the instrument panel, pull the instrument panel towards you and disconnect the two wiring harnesses from it.

8. The additional wire for operating the speedometer is connected in the left harness, black connector. It is necessary to remove the insulation from the harness and find the wire (the color of the wire and the contact number are indicated in the instructions included with the device). For Logan with automatic transmission, Duster and Nissan Almera, the color of the wire may be different, we are guided by the contact number.

9. Remove a small section of insulation on the wire needed to connect the speedometer winding. This can be done either next to the connector or at the very base of the harness to better disguise additional connections. Connect an additional wire, if possible, solder the connection (although this is not necessary) and insulate it well. Replace the harness insulation.

10. Pull an additional wire to the Lada Largus diagnostic connector in the glove compartment. You can lay the additional wire under the car carpet.

11. Use a screwdriver to press the lock on the diagnostic connector (on the right) and push the connector out of the glove compartment. Pull the diagnostic connector harness towards you for ease of operation.

12. Remove the plastic yellow contact retainer from the connector by prying it off with a knife, screwdriver or awl.

13. Position the connector as shown in the figure and insert an additional wire with a pin crimped on the end for the connector in the 3rd right socket in the top row of the connector. This slot is empty from the factory. The contact on the additional wire is solid on one side and has a rectangular hole for a latch on the other. Insert with the hole towards the core of the connector.

14. Replace the yellow plastic contact retainer. To prevent the additional contact from falling out of the connector, it is recommended to unscrew one self-tapping screw from the speedometer housing and screw it into the third socket, thereby strengthening the fastening of the additional contact. contact.

Replacing the speed sensor on Grant

In this case, if the speed sensor on the Grant fails, it will need to be replaced with a new one.

However, before purchasing a new part, you should reliably make sure that this is the problem. To do this, you need to check the condition of the corresponding car unit. We get to the place where the Lada Granta speed sensor is installed and perform the following checks:

• monitoring the integrity of the electrical circuit supplying the DSA. To do this, disconnect the power, carefully inspect the contacts for oxidation, tightness, contamination, and integrity of the insulation. If deficiencies are identified, they must be eliminated;

• monitoring the resistance of the sensor supply circuit (the value should be about 1 Ohm); • checking the condition of the speed sensor itself.

The speed sensor on the Grant itself changes in the following sequence:

• the sensor power plug is disconnected, the plastic clamp is bent and the part is removed; • the DSA fastening bolt is unscrewed; • pry up the housing and remove the sensor. The new product is installed in the reverse order.

Possible breakdowns

Troubleshooting in the speed calculation system must be looked for in the electrical circuit. It is better to start work with the fuse.

Fuse

A 10 A fuse is responsible for protecting the instrument panel. It is located in the fuse block and is marked “F1”. It is necessary to remove the element and visually inspect for a break in the internal jumper. If there is no break, but there is melting of the case, then the protection device must be replaced with an exact analogue of 10 amperes. Additionally, you need to inspect the fuse contacts, eliminate any defects, and clean them.

After installing a new fuse, you need to check the circuit for electric current. To do this you need:

  1. Turn on the ignition.
  2. Set the multimeter to DC voltage measurement mode.
  3. Connect the red test probe to the fuse output.
  4. Black dipstick with ground.

The tester should show a voltage similar to the battery charge. It is prohibited to connect the power circuit directly without a protective device, through twisting, or to insert foreign metal objects between the contacts, as this may lead to a fire.

Sensor

If after replacing the fuse and checking the circuit, the problem with the speedometer does not go away, you need to check the speed sensor. This requires:

  1. Loosen the clamps securing the air purification filter pipe and remove it.
  2. Disconnect the EMF power plug.

Both halves of the connecting plug must be checked for dirt, oxidation, and broken contacts. Next, the voltage supply to this plug is checked. Necessary:

  1. Connect the red measuring probe to terminal “1”.
  2. Black probe to terminal “3”.
  3. Turn on the tester in DC voltage measurement mode.
  4. Start the power unit.

The tester should give a result of 12 volts. Such data will indicate the supply of voltage to the sensor terminals. If there is no voltage, then you need to determine the damage by inspecting the wires for a break. Any damage should be repaired by replacing the faulty wire.

Terminals “1” and “3” can be checked for resistance. Switch the tester to resistance measurement mode and connect the test probes to the indicated terminals. The operating resistance of the sensor varies between 3–10 ohms. Any deviations confirm a malfunction of the EMF.

After checking the incoming voltage, it is necessary to test the operation of the EMF. First, you need to inspect the device. If there are cracks, chips or complete breakage of the plastic housing of the sensor, it must be replaced with an exact analogue. If the case has no visible damage, then a performance test is carried out. To do this you need:

  1. Raise the drive wheel on a jack.
  2. Connect the wire from the “+” battery to terminal “1” of the sensor.
  3. Connect the ground wire to terminal “3”.
  4. Switch the tester to constant voltage testing mode.
  5. Connect the red test probe to terminal “2” on the sensor itself.
  6. Connect the black test probe to ground.
  7. Spin the drive wheel of the car.

The tester should show voltage that increases as wheel speed increases. The voltage is not stable, since it will be output in jumps due to the fact that the sensor creates pulses.

Similar testing can be done using a 9 volt light bulb. It needs to be connected in the same way as the tester. As the drive wheel rotates, the lamp will blink, increasing the cleanliness parallel to the speed of rotation of the wheel.

If there is no pulse voltage, the sensor will have to be replaced. This is not difficult to do. You need to unscrew the mounting bolt to “10”, turn the sensor slightly and remove it from its seat. When replacing, it is also necessary to change the spacer ring, having first cleaned its seat from oil and dirt. It is also recommended to insulate the sensor connector. This is done using silicone sealant.

Wiring

Often the cause of electronic speedometer malfunction is wiring. It needs to be inspected for the integrity of the insulation. Any damage must be repaired. Damage to the insulation leads to short circuits to ground. This happens especially often after washing the car or in damp weather. If there are broken connections or oxidation on the contacts, install new wiring or solder the old one with insulation of the connections.

Drive unit

There are 2 ways to check the operation of the drive. The first involves simply resetting the odometer. After resetting, the button must be kept closed and the ignition turned on.

The tachometer and speedometer needles must go from 0 to maximum and return to their original position. If this does not happen, then the reason lies in the device itself. Additionally, you can check by disconnecting the speedometer power plug. Next, you need to connect “+” from the battery to terminal “26”. The arrow should respond to a light touch with the wire by deflecting. If this does not happen, the problem lies in the drive - the receiver.

Also, the cause of the speedometer needle “freezing” may be a previous replacement or repair of the dashboard. Insufficiently deep seating of the arrow on the stem may cause it to touch the protective glass. Also, a deep landing may result in touching the scoreboard itself. Dismantling and reassembling the dashboard will help resolve the problem.

How the speedometer works

Before we tell you how to adjust or wind up the odometer readings, let’s figure out what the operating principle of the speedometer on a Gazelle is. The principle of operation of the mechanism is to measure the speed of the vehicle through the mechanical connection of its pointer with the output pulley of the gearbox. The latter receives wheel drive.

The shaft can give a true measure of driving speed; more accurate indicators will give the wheels of the car. This is because the gearbox pulley is located further from the gearbox and closer to the wheels, and the speed at which it rotates is set in accordance with the final speed after the gearbox. The speed of rotation of the pulley may be identical in both first and fourth gear, but the difference in the speed of the machine can be colossal.

In a gearbox, the output pulley contains a gear that rotates with the pulley. The gear is connected to the speedometer drive cable. In the circuit, the cable is a durable wire located inside a protective rubberized casing. One end of the cable is installed in a special hole and fixed on the drive gear. When the gear rotates, the cable rotates with it.

The second end of the cable is connected to the device on the control panel. At the end is a magnet in the shape of a shaft, which is mounted close to the steel drum, but not in contact with it. The drum is attached to the needle and transmits readings to the corresponding scale. When the vehicle is stationary, the cable needle is kept at zero level by a small coil spring.

Connection method for our device

The dimensions and appearance of this device are similar to the standard charger used in most cars. The device itself "

speedometer winding generator

» must be connected to the cigarette lighter socket, and the wire leading to it to the impulse wire. The latter must first be detected: remove the instrument panel and bring the impulse wire out, extending it if necessary. Once you have completed these simple steps, you will ensure further rapid connection of our device.

By purchasing equipment such as

VAZ speedometer winding

, You will protect yourself for a long time when passing even the most picky maintenance and will become the owner of an original and highly efficient device. With its invaluable help, you, as the owner of your car, will be able to constantly adjust the mileage readings, keeping them within the limits of the value you personally need.

How to replace the sensor?

Before installing a new sensor, you will need to dismantle the damaged part. To perform this manipulation, the owner will need to acquire a “6” key or a Phillips screwdriver.

Sensors have several design varieties, and each type of product is assigned its own code. This is important when selecting a similar component.

Replacing a speed sensor is not a complicated procedure, so any LADA Kalina owner can do it.

  1. Unscrew the clamp screw.
  2. We remove the corrugated pipe and press out the fixing element.
  3. Remove the block with the supply wiring and move it to the side.
  4. Unscrew the fasteners and remove the old sensor.

We carry out installation following the reverse algorithm of manipulations.

Speed sensor location

The speed sensor on the Lada Granta is located between the BDZ (throttle valve unit) and the brake fluid reservoir.

Replacing the speed sensor

  1. The sensor can be removed by removing the air filter and inlet pipe.
  2. The sensor is secured with a nut, which can be easily unscrewed with a regular 10 mm wrench.
  3. Unscrew the nut, disconnect the chip, and remove the speed sensor.

After you have removed the sensor, clean it; debris may have gotten on it. Since its body consists of a magnet, it could become clogged when it hits a curb.

However, this is unlikely; most likely it has failed and requires replacement. But if there was dirt on it, then there is a chance that it is working. Put it back, connect the chip and test drive it to check.

Electric power steering failure due to speed sensor failure

Indeed, if the speed sensor breaks down, the electric power steering in some cars fails, and error P-0501 (Vehicle speed sensor signal outside the permissible range) should appear on the instrument panel. That's why the steering wheel refuses, so that the car understands that the sensor is broken. In your case, the nature of the failure said that the sensor shows zero speed.

Failure of the electric power steering may indicate a breakdown of the speed sensor!

Sensor price

A speed sensor costs from 300 to 600 rubles.

Tips for motorists

An electronic speedometer is installed on the Lada Granta passenger car, which receives information about the speed of rotation of the secondary shaft of the gearbox using a speed sensor. The main reason for speedometer failures to perform its function is the speed sensor. This is mainly due to the fact that dirt and water get into its location when the car is moving in bad weather, and as soon as its seal is broken, problems with the speedometer readings begin.

In addition to the speedometer, the odometer also stops working, the electric power steering is switched off at times, and the electronic gas pedal (E-pedal) begins to glitch. To make the electric power steering and E-pedal work, you will need to turn off and then turn on the ignition while driving, which creates certain inconveniences when driving. Therefore, there is no need to delay repairing the speed sensor.

If the speed sensor fails, then the speedometer needle goes to zero, and a check lights up on the instrument panel, indicating that a malfunction has occurred, which can be determined by diagnosing the error code. It is better to remove the speed sensor on an overpass or in an inspection hole, since access to it is much better from below than through the engine compartment. After replacing the speed sensor, it is necessary to erase the error from the ECM memory. This can be done by removing the negative terminal of the battery for about five minutes.

When the speedometer needle starts to twitch, and then it turns off and turns on again after a while, then we can make the assumption that contact is periodically lost in the speed sensor connector. If the driver does not pay attention to this malfunction, then after some time of operating the car, corrosion will destroy the contact so that the speed sensor will not be able to transmit signals to the ECM and the speedometer will stop working. Therefore, when installing a new speed sensor, seal it with sealant and electrical tape so that moisture does not get inside it and to the contacts of the block.

The electrical circuit of the speed sensor is protected by fuse F7 (7.5A), located in the mounting block to the left of the steering column. It can also burn out in the event of a short circuit, but if this happens, not only the speedometer will not work, but also the engine of the Lada Granta will become unstable. This will happen due to the fact that fuse F7, in addition to the speed sensor, also protects the circuits of the mass air flow sensor (MAF), oxygen sensor and canister valve.

Yesterday I came home, started climbing onto the curb and slightly hit the bottom of the car. And then it started. The speedometer needle began to dance, at first it seemed to me that it was even accompanied by music. Then it twitched at zero, twitched to 200, and fell again. No errors occurred; the engine warning light did not light up on the instrument panel.

She didn't get up again. I drove around the yard, looked smartly under the hood, and screwed in all the chips I saw. Did not help.

Knowledgeable people said that the speed sensor was broken, quite logical, but where is it located? I went to a car store to buy a new one to check, the store is good, they accept returns if there was no loss of presentation. And the seller told me that when the speed sensor breaks down, the electric power steering also doesn’t work, but for me it works.

How to change the speedometer sensor

The speed sensor (DS) is designed to obtain information about the number of revolutions transmitted from the gearbox to the drive wheels of the vehicle, followed by its conversion into an electronic signal and transmission to the electronic control unit (ECU). Only fuel-injected cars are equipped with DS. The predecessor of the speed sensor was a mechanical speedometer drive, which was equipped with all carburetor engines.

VAZ 2110 cars, depending on the year of manufacture, are equipped with different types of speed sensors. Older models are equipped with a mechanically driven sensor (rod and gear), new ones (after 2006) have a fully electronic design.

Symptoms of a speedometer failure on a Priora

A car speedometer is necessary to measure speed, as every driver knows. From this we can conclude that its failure is diagnosed due to one of the following problems:

  • When the car is moving, the speedometer needle does not deviate from zero;
  • The speedometer incorrectly detects the vehicle speed or turns off during operation.

Most often you come to deal with the second option of speedometer failure. A typical problem for Lada Priora cars is a temporary failure of the speedometer, when while the car is moving the needle drops to zero, an exclamation mark lights up on the dashboard and the electric power steering also fails. After a few minutes, the problem disappears and the car’s electronics operate as before.

Please note: Lada Priora cars are equipped with an electronic speedometer, as a result of which there are two options for failure: mechanical or electronic, that is, a failure of the microprocessor that controls the device.

Speedometer winder for Lada Largus

The speedometer twister for Lada Largus is a simple device that helps to correct the indicators in all blocks. Often the problem is that fuel and lubricants for a car are issued according to standards, without taking into account the real situation. Indicators may vary due to different modes of use of the car, idle time in traffic jams, with the engine running, seasonality, etc. We have made a device that helps drivers deal with this problem on their own, with a minimum of investment. With our device you will not have to pay extra out of pocket for operating the car.

Sensor check

In addition to vibrations, contacts can oxidize due to the influence of moisture during washing or precipitation. That is why it is not superfluous to check the sensor itself and its elements. If a visual inspection does not reveal any violations, cleaning for preventive purposes will not harm.

Next, you need to check the sensor itself for errors in operation. For testing you will need a special device - a scanner. If it is not there, then a distance meter will do. If the sensor works correctly, then even if the speedometer is faulty, the distance will be counted.

Malfunction in the instrument cluster

Often the speedometer stops working due to a malfunction of the instrument panel itself. The easiest way to check this is to temporarily connect a known working panel. It is also worth checking the reliability of the contacts on the back of the dashboard. You can also check the vehicle speed readings on the on-board computer.

If the dashboard was tuned (disassembled), then the arrow motor may have been damaged during the work, or the speed arrow is set too deep (the arrow touches the panel trim).

Have you encountered speedometer problems? How did you manage to solve it? Let us remind you that solutions to other faults can be found in the category repair and operation of Lada Granta, Lada Kalina or Lada Priora.

Main symptoms and causes of failure

There are obvious discrepancies between the speedometer and tachometer, and besides, the car is driving at first speed!

This happens both while driving and when the car is simply standing still. For such a malfunction to make itself felt, it doesn’t matter how long the car has driven.

Also, in some cases, a sensor may light up, which indicates a malfunction of the power steering. It would seem that these malfunctions have nothing in common, but the speed of a car has been measured electronically for a long time.
