Please note that this shelf is only suitable for 5 seater versions of LADA Largus and LARGUS CROSS. This trunk curtain will not fit into 7-seater versions (and therefore vans) for technical reasons.

Second ceiling shelf

Largus is undoubtedly one of the most spacious cars in its class. BUT! There is never too much space! Especially when you don't have a garage. Well, if you have a seven-seater version of the car. You can install a luggage box, but a good, beautiful box costs a lot of money, and a “cheap” one will be of worse quality and design like a soap dish. So you need to find a place inside the car. And so the Largus owners began to install all sorts of organizing boxes and a second ceiling shelf, either purchased or made with their own hands. I am not satisfied with both options due to the very appearance of such shelves, which, in my opinion, absolutely do not fit into the interior of the cabin!

In addition, this option is only suitable for five-seaters. Not at all in seven-seaters, I tried it on, it’s unrealistic. The shelf is right in front of your head, any sudden braking will cause a strong blow!

And then I thought, wouldn’t a standard shelf fit there, but shifted forward! I specially unscrewed it and tried it on. The shelf fits almost perfectly, with some minor modifications to the fastenings and the shelf itself! The shelf will be located immediately behind the second row. Of course, this will make it somewhat difficult for adult passengers to get in and out of the third row, although I only need to duck my head a little. In addition, I rarely have anyone there, mostly children or luggage. It doesn’t interfere with sitting at all, and doesn’t block anyone’s view...

BUT! The price for a new shelf is not small (4000-5000!). I searched the net and found a used one (Avtolada69 website) at a price of 1680, without brackets, but they are not needed there. All you have to do is drill holes in the roof cross member for four screws and install two tabs to support the rear part of the shelf, which will be located where the brackets with plugs for installing the luggage compartment net are currently located. They won’t be useful to me for their intended purpose anyway...

Initially, I wanted to fix M8 or M10 bolts no more than 100 mm long in the brackets themselves, and the shelf would rest on them just in the places of the recesses, just like in the standard shelf.

But it turned out that then it was impossible to secure the front part of the shelf; the roof cross beam simply ended there (just at the level of the joint of the ceiling trim). In addition, the bolts in the brackets were tilted downwards and the shelf would not stand horizontally.

After some thought, I decided to insert bolts into the shelf itself on both sides. To do this, I drilled two holes on the side opposite the above-mentioned brackets. The bolts are now beveled down, allowing the shelf to stand up straight...

The bracket plugs had to be cut off. Then I cut a groove in their upper part. And I put a piece of half-inch metal-plastic pipe on the bolts, close to the plugs that it now secures...

The shelf does not fit tightly to the ceiling. This is, firstly, because the edges of the shelf on the sides are in the way, which need to be trimmed slightly, otherwise the ceiling upholstery will be severely deformed...

Secondly, you need to make cutouts in the ceiling for the protrusions in the front part of the shelf, where it is attached with self-tapping screws, just like under the standard shelf, then it will finally fit tightly. These are the holes for the standard shelf...

...and this is for a new shelf, I cut it with an ordinary construction knife...

The iron is thin, and simple fastening with self-tapping screws will not work; it can tear out the shelf. It is necessary to install pistons for self-tapping screws, as is the case with standard fasteners. To do this, you need to drill large diameter holes in the roof beam, one for each piston if it is square or two if it is oval. Then bore into an oval or rectangular shape for the pistons (depending on their type). But this is ideal. I stuck round plastic drywall dowels in there, after applying more hot-melt adhesive to them for fixation. This is perhaps the most time-consuming part of the process and the most responsible. We must remember that condensation constantly forms on the roof, and the presence of metal filings and bare metal will instantly cause rust to form at the drilling sites. Therefore, I sprayed these places with rust converter, but you can also paint it...

The shelf completely blocks the passenger light, and in the new navigation lamp I didn’t bother with polite lighting, so it became completely dark in the car. Therefore, it was decided to redesign the interior lighting.
