All modifications of the Lada Granta have rear drum and front disc brakes. Stopping the machine is accompanied by abrasion of the friction material, so the pads require periodic replacement. It won’t be difficult to do it yourself, and if you have questions or problems, it is recommended to use the corresponding thematic video.

Analogues of brake pads for Lada Granta
The products of the German company ATE enjoy the greatest popularity and positive reviews among analogues. These front pads under article number 13.0460-2965.2 work well in tandem with the original brake disc in all operating modes.
In second place in popularity and quality are Lucas/TRW products. Front brake pads with article number GDB 1446 have a built-in electronic wear sensor for vehicles in the Luxury configuration. Their price is slightly higher than that of TRW GDB 469 pads, which are also an analogue for replacement. It is important to note that there are lower quality TRW GDB 469M pads available for sale, produced at a factory in China using cheaper technology.

What you need to know about Granta Sport pads
In the Sport modification, all four calipers are disc type. Friction linings are metallic and semi-metallic. Ceramic and organic friction linings are not installed on the Lada model. The difference between the last two types is the presence of ceramic and Kevlar fiber.
There is no need to mention the advantages of organics and ceramics, since everyone knows that they are developed using the most modern technologies and provide maximum braking effect. The exorbitant cost is a significant drawback, which for many becomes a stumbling block.
Pad replacement process
- Turn the steering wheel in the direction you want to replace it. It will be more convenient to work this way.
- Clean any dirt from where the caliper attaches to the disc.
- Take a chisel or a flat screwdriver with a small slot in your hands (I don’t know if this word can be conjugated). Bend back the locking plates that hold the bolt. I recommend bending the bottom plate, then it will be convenient to lift the brake mechanism up and replace the pad.
You don't have to touch this bolt.
Installing new pads
Reassemble in reverse order.
Attention! After you have replaced both brake pads, you need to bleed the brakes. Place a block or something similar under the rear wheels to block the wheels from moving. Start the car and operate the brake pedal.

Diagnostics of friction lining wear level
Most modern cars are equipped with special digital wear sensors. When the programmed level is reached, an indicator light is activated on the central instrument panel, indicating a breakdown of the brake circuit.
Unfortunately, the Lada is not yet equipped with digital sensors; you need to navigate by the actual thickness of the body of the lining. The maximum permissible threshold for using the body is 1.5 mm. Above the specified limit, the operation of the technical device is not safe. The degree of wear can be determined by removing each wheel and measuring the thickness with a caliper.
Alternative option: turn the steering wheel to the extreme left/right position, visually assess the thickness without resorting to dismantling work. The above recommendation only applies to the front circuit. For rear wheels, unconditional removal of discs.
Common mistakes when replacing pads
With any multi-step operation, errors can occur. To avoid them, you must adhere to the following recommendations:
- Changing the front pads on a Lada Granta must be done on two wheels at once. This way the mechanism will work longer.
- If the front pads of the Lada are equipped with thrust springs, they must be periodically lubricated. This will keep the braking mechanism operational, and will provide acoustic comfort to those inside the car.
- The driver should avoid sudden braking for the first few hundred kilometers after replacing the front pads. At this time, it is also recommended to periodically check the degree of heating of the wheel rims on the Lada and pay attention to dust loss.
- If you are not confident in your abilities, you can invite a friend more experienced in this matter as a consultant or go to a car service station.
Replacing the front brake pads on a VAZ Granta Liftback and all other cars of this family is not a complicated procedure. Most motorists carry it out no more than once a year.
Typical causes of wear on brake system components
- Long-term operation without intermediate prevention;
- Mechanical damage to the caliper or steering knuckle, resulting in deformation of the lining;
- Deformation, and as a result, creaking of brake pads on Grant;
- Purchase and subsequent installation of low quality parts;
- Violation of installation technology;
- Aggressive driving style of a vehicle;
- Insufficient amount of fluid in the expansion tank of the master cylinder;
- Damage to the supply line DOT – 4;
- Working cylinder jammed.
Which is better - grooving or replacement?
If the parts do not correspond to the specified dimensions from the manufacturer, a reasonable question arises - grind or change. Grooving for a ventilated brake disc is possible if the remainder is at least 4 mm. Since if a part is worn out, the manufacturer revokes the warranty, many advise replacing it with a new one. After turning a disc on a lathe, runout may occur. If the grooving is carried out using specialized equipment, this problem will not arise.
You definitely need to replace it if the following symptoms occur:
- cracks, scratches, chips;
- beating, grinding;
- wheel locking when braking;
- drop in brake fluid level in the system;
- increased braking distance;
- increased brake pedal travel.
In all these cases, there is no point in saving, since driving with such brakes becomes dangerous.
Sequence of actions when replacing pads on Granta yourself
Front
- We place the car within the perimeter of the repair zone, squeeze the parking brake, and engage first gear. We fix the rear row of wheels with wheel chocks;
- Jack up the side and remove the wheel;
- We unscrew the upper and lower guides, move the caliper to the side, do not unscrew the line;
- Carefully pry up the anti-squeak plates with a screwdriver and remove the pads;
- We troubleshoot the caliper, clean it, and blow it out if necessary;
- We install new linings.
After replacing the front pads, check the level in the tank. It is located in the engine compartment. We carry out a similar procedure with the second wheel. Service center technicians recommend replacing the circuits at the same time. For example: front / rear, all four calipers. Subsequent replacement after 30,000 km.
Rear So, to change the rear brake pads on a Grant, do the following:
- fix the front wheels, do not release the parking brake;
- jack up the rear side, remove the wheel;
- tapping the rim evenly with a hammer to knock it off its seat;
- remove the pressure plate, spacer bar;
- unpin the base of the fixation, the ear of the handbrake cable;
- remove the old ones and install new friction linings;
- The mechanism is pinned in the reverse order.
Be sure to check the fluid level in the expansion tank and replenish the missing amount.
Reminder
Let's summarize the key points :
- Granta with ABS has special pads, an ABS control disc and sensors that must be disconnected before disassembling the brake drum;
- When the drum does not come off well, you can remove it in another way: screw the pins 7 into the holes next to which they were screwed in (for more details, see the section How to remove a brake drum);
- Do not press the brake pedal after removing the drum;
- If you do not pump out excess brake fluid before starting work, it may be squeezed out after replacing the pads.

Features of original LADA Granta brake pads
The supply of pads to the AvtoVAZ conveyor is carried out by JSC TIIR, Russia’s leading manufacturer of friction products for cars and trucks.
21100-3501800-83
The peculiarity of the markings of brake pads from “TIIR” is that the pads themselves have an internal factory number, and are supplied to the market with “VAZ” numbers. For example, components intended for the retail market under the Lada Sport brand are marked 21100-3501800-83, while the serial number 2108-3501080-05 is stamped on the pads themselves.
It is important to note that since 2012, TIIR JSC began producing front brake pads 1118-3501090 from the TIIR-295 composite material for Grant, Priora and Kalina cars. These pads, as mentioned above, do not have anti-squeak plates; a special mastic is applied to the back of the pads, designed to level out noise and vibration during braking.
Many car enthusiasts note that such “cheapening” of products does not bring the desired result; moreover, with frequent intense braking, the surface of the lining “glazes over”. This leads to an excessive increase in the coefficient of friction in the disc/pad pair and, accordingly, to accelerated wear of the brake disc.
But in 2013, the company improved the technology and began producing front brake pads 2192-3501090-10 from the TIIR-299 composite material with multilayer Nulok anti-squeak plates, for Lada Granta 2192/2194 and their modifications.
