Why the heater fan on the VAZ-2114 stopped working: causes and solutions

What could be shorting it? Fuse f7 burns, heated rear window, windshield washer and heater motor, and does not burn out immediately, but after some time. That is, the VAZ 2115 injector may burn out in half a day, maybe in 30 minutes.

f7-Heater electric motor. Windshield washer motor. Electric motors for headlight cleaners (in operating mode). Cigarette lighter. Glove box lighting lamp. Relay for turning on the heated rear window (winding). What exactly cannot be said definitely, you need to go through it one by one, wire by wire.

If the rated fuse burns out, you need to do the following.

  1. Turn off the controls of all electrical consumers protected by this fuse.
  2. Instead of this fuse, connect a 21W auto lamp.
  3. Turn on one device at a time until the lamp lights up at full heat.

As soon as the 21W lamp lights up, turn off the electrical circuit of this device to ensure that the lamp goes out. This will leave you with a shorted wire in your hands.

A stove is necessary for every VAZ-2114 owner who drives his car in the cold season. Before the onset of winter, it is especially important to be sure that your heating system is working properly. One of the common causes of failure is the fuse. It needs to be found, removed from the mounting block and replaced with a new one. There is nothing complicated in this work; even a beginner can handle it.

Heating system operation

The VAZ manufacturer did not complicate life for itself and its customers by making the heating system on most of its car models identical:

  • turning on the regulator, the driver from inside the cabin turns on the supply of antifreeze to the heater radiator;
  • before this, the coolant warms up to 90 degrees (approximately);
  • after this, the fan is turned on, pumping air;
  • the fan on the VAZ-2114 has three speed modes;
  • the air flow penetrates from the outside of the heating system inside, that is, into the interior of the car;
  • regulating dampers allow the driver to select the zone where the heating will be directed;
  • The VAZ-2114 provides heating for the interior, windshield and legs.

Important! If the stove fan fails, the entire heating system of the VAZ-2114 stops working. Stopping the fan does not allow air heated by the radiator to penetrate inside in normal quantities. Instead of the usual 5–10 minutes, heating takes several hours.

How to replace the VAZ-2114 heater relay with your own hands

The ignition regulator, located in the VAZ-2114 directly under the instrument panel, cannot be repaired, it can only be replaced. The work of dismantling the old part and installing a new one does not require special knowledge, so follow the step-by-step instructions offered by the specialists, and soon the installation will be successfully completed:

  1. Disconnect the battery from the network by removing the terminal connected to the minus.
  2. Using a slotted screwdriver, unscrew the 4 screws located on the steering column housing. After this, removing the component will not be difficult.
  3. A Phillips screwdriver will allow you to unscrew another self-tapping screw holding the lower part of the case.
  4. If there are no fasteners, remove the protective housing from the steering block.
  5. At the bottom there is a block where the harness is located along with the wiring, and the VAZ-2114 heater relay is connected to them.
  6. Disconnect the adjuster from the block, carefully pull it out and install a new part.
  7. Assemble the structure together, returning the fasteners to their original place. Check how the heater now works and whether heated air enters the car interior.

Heater fuse

If you are faced with a heater breakdown, start checking the reasons with the simplest ones. This is a fuse. When this element burns out, the stove stops working. A simple replacement of the device will bring the heater back to life.

On the VAZ-2114 model, the manufacturer installs F7 heater fuses with a current strength of 30 A. Sometimes replacing a fuse results in the new element burning out almost immediately. This indicates a short circuit. It must be eliminated by going through the entire circuit. In such a situation, it is better to contact an experienced electrician.

Important! It is easy to identify a heater fuse as the cause of a heating system problem. The same element, in addition to the stove, is responsible for the operation of the glove compartment lighting, the electric headlight washer pump, the heated rear window and the cigarette lighter. If these components do not work, like the stove, then the problem is definitely in the fuse.

Element location and replacement

The location of the VAZ-2114 heater fuses may differ slightly depending on the year of manufacture and equipment of the car. But finding the mounting block is still not difficult. In addition, the location of the elements is indicated on its cover.

  1. The main number of fuses is located in the engine compartment in the mounting block. So just lift the hood, find this box and open it. This is a black structure located near the windshield on the driver's side.
  2. The mounting block is closed with two latches. By clicking on them, you open the cover and gain access to the elements you need - fuses and relays.
  3. Under the lid there is a compartment for special tongs. They are needed to avoid damage to other vehicle electrical protection components and relays when removing damaged elements.
  4. Look at the inside surface of the cover to make sure where the heater fuse for your VAZ-2114 model is located.
  5. Remove the fuse marked F7 from the mounting block. Check the condition of this item. If it burns out, then the reason for the breakdown of the VAZ-2114 heating system is definitely in it. It is difficult for a beginner to visually identify a broken fuse. Therefore, just take a new element, insert it in place of the old one and check whether the heater works after that.
  6. If after replacement the stove on the VAZ-2114 starts working, leave the new element in the mounting block, close the cover with the latches and lower the hood into place.
  7. Start the engine and check that the heater is working. If after a while the stove turns off again and the cause again turns out to be the safety element, then the problem is more serious than you thought. You will have to dismantle the mounting block.

The purpose of each of the fuses on the car

If you lift the removed cover, inside you will see a diagram of the location of the relays and fuses in the mounting block (fuse block). All these elements are numbered on it and have designations from F1 to F20. Of course, everyone is responsible for the operation of various consumers in the vehicle’s electrical network:

  • F1 - rear fog lamp and warning lamp for turning on the latter (10 A);
  • F2 - turn signal switch relay, VAZ 2114 alarm system, turn signals (10 A);
  • F3 - front and central lighting of the interior, trunk, on-board computer and brake lamps (7.5 A);
  • F4 - heated rear window (20 A);
  • F5 - sound signal, cooling fan (20 A);
  • F6 - electric windows (30 A);
  • F7 - electric motor of the heater, front window, washing machine, glove box lamp, cigarette lighter (30 A);
  • F8, F9 - fog lights, right and left, respectively (7.5 A);
  • F10, F11 - left side indicator, as well as right side indicator, indicator for turning on the dimensions, room lighting, as well as a backlight lamp for instruments, ashtrays (7.5 A);
  • F12, F13 - right and left low beam, respectively (7.5 A);
  • F14, F15 - left and right high beam, respectively (7.5 A);
  • F16 - turn signals, dashboard warning lights - parking brake, low battery, etc., as well as on-board computer (15 A);
  • F17-20 - reserve 7.5, 10, 30 and 20 A, respectively.

The VAZ 2114 fuse diagram also contains backup fuses for 7.5, 10, 20 and 30 A, located in the lower part of the VAZ 2114 fuse block. Having pulled out the allegedly blown one, you should visually inspect it. If it is clear that the integrity of the wire is broken, then we can definitely say that the reason for the inoperability of the vehicle equipment lies precisely in the failure of the fuses. It is possible to replace a failed one with a reserve of the same power according to the data presented in the diagram on the back of the plastic cover of the mounting block.

Removing the mounting block

You can remove it and show it to an electrician, or try to do the repair yourself. But first you need to dismantle this fuse box.

  1. Remove the negative terminal from the battery to de-energize the VAZ-2114.
  2. Enter the salon. Under the dashboard on the left you need to disconnect 5 blocks with wiring harnesses from the bottom side of the block.
  3. Remove the cover.
  4. The blocks with wires on top of the block are already removed from the engine compartment.
  5. Using a 10mm socket and an extension, unscrew the mounting nut of the mounting block.
  6. Lift the box and you will see several more blocks with wires. They are disconnected, after which the mounting block is completely removed and sent for diagnostics, repair or maintenance.

Location of the relay, resistor and fuse for the VAZ-2115 heater

Introduction

Mounting block of the new VAZ-2115 model

The heating unit plays a huge role in any vehicle; not only the comfort of movement, but also the safety of passengers and the driver in the cabin depends on it. A working stove not only warms up the interior, but also prevents the formation of ice on the windows. Sometimes, due to a completely insignificant detail, a heating device stops functioning as it should. To find the true cause of the malfunction, some motorists spend several hours checking all the components of the device step by step. Some elements of the system are small in size, which makes them difficult to find immediately. Let's figure out which fuse is responsible for the VAZ-2115 stove and where it is located. At the same time, we will learn about the location of the relay and heater resistor.

Location of various elements of the heating device

Ignition relay

The car owner can become interested in where the heater relay is located on a VAZ-2115 only after the standard heating device begins to malfunction. In other words, situations will begin to arise when the stove will turn on only when warm. In such a situation, you can unconditionally blame the VAZ-2115 heater relay.

In fact, many even experienced motorists are perplexed about how this design element can affect the operation of the heating unit, but the fact remains a fact. The stove will not be able to function fully until this part is replaced. To understand where the VAZ-2115 heater relay is located, you need to pay attention to the center console located under the dashboard.

Resistor

An additional resistor is responsible for adjusting the speed of the heating device. This small-sized element of the system is equipped with two operating modes. If a motorist wants to find out where the heater resistor is located on a VAZ-2115, he should look in the gas pedal area, since the part he is looking for is located directly above it. In order to replace this resistor, there is no need to remove or unscrew anything.

Possible causes of a malfunction of the heater fan on a VAZ-2114

Heater fan installed on a car

Before eliminating a malfunction that has occurred, it is necessary to establish the causes of its occurrence.

So, according to the experience of many motorists, the most common reasons are:

  • Fuse blown.
  • Failure of the contact group.
  • Relay failure.
  • Resistor.
  • Switch.
  • The fan motor burned out.

Now that the causes have been discussed, we can move directly to elimination methods.

Elimination methods

Many motorists think that a heater fan failure is associated only with a fuse or combustion of the motor that turns it, but this is far from the case. Let's consider all possible reasons in more detail.

Fuse blown

Mounting fuse block where the heater fan fuse is installed

The most common cause of all auto electrician troubles are fuses that fail.

So, in the case of a fan, the first thing you need to do is check the integrity of the fuse. If it is burnt out, it must be replaced with a new one. If this does not help, then you need to look for the reason elsewhere.

The heater fan fuse is marked with an arrow in the diagram.

You can find the fuse in the mounting block marked F7 .

Since the fan requires a lot of energy consumption, the rated current is 20A , so the fuse must be set no less than this figure.

Failure of the contact group

Another reason that is quite common in cars is oxidation of the contact group. To eliminate this malfunction, you need to clean the contact connections or simply move them.

Since the mounting block is located under the hood and water can get into it, it is necessary to protect it from moisture. You can do this in this simple way.

It often happened that the connections and connectors themselves had to be changed because they failed and were completely destroyed due to corrosion.

Relay failure

Relay block on a car

A relay failure will cause the stove fan to turn on briefly.

Sometimes, as practice shows, it may not turn on the first time, or only when the power unit is heated. The solution is quite simple - replacing the relay . You can find it under the dashboard of your car.

Resistor

The process of dismantling the heater resistor

A resistor malfunction occurs when the stove operates only in the extreme right position.

In this case, power will not be supplied, but only in the right position it is supplied directly, bypassing all other elements. Therefore, to eliminate the malfunction it is necessary to replace the part that has failed.

Switch

A fairly common malfunction is considered to be a failure of the switch or simply a breakdown of the contact connections.

Of course, it is not recommended to carry out repair operations, since incorrect restoration of an element, especially in the electrical part, can lead to the others breaking down. So, the manufacturer suggests that car enthusiasts with experience in DIY repairs recommend replacing the complete heater control unit.

Fan motor burnt out

Location of the heater fan under the hood

Motor combustion is the most unpleasant reason that can happen in this situation.

So, you will have to replace the stove fan completely, which will entail expensive parts. Some motorists, in this case, look for used motors at salvage yards, which are much cheaper.

On the left is a burnt out motor, on the right is a new one.

Of course, it is unknown how long such spare parts will last, so it is better not to skimp and buy a new one.

conclusions

The reasons for the VAZ-2114 heater fan not working are quite simple and even a novice motorist can fix them. Of course, in 50% of cases, all malfunctions are related to the fuse, replacing which will normalize the operation. But, if the reasons are quite complex and the car enthusiast is not able to cope with them on his own, it is necessary to contact a car service center, where everything will be repaired cheaply and efficiently.

Good evening to all car enthusiasts, I read everything, everything is familiar, but the reason for me is that the fuse burns when I sharply stomp on the gas pedal, when I drive in quiet mode, the heater works and does not light up. If anyone has encountered this, please tell me what it can do be a reason?

Set the fuse to 20

Thank you very much for the detailed information! I fixed the stove in a couple of hours. The cause was a faulty contact group. Saved a good amount)))

I have a VAZ 21014 - the heater fan started to shut down, it only turned on if I drove for a while, it was like this for 3 weeks, then it stopped turning on at all. I checked the relay and resistor and fuses, but all this was in vain... then I decided to do this - I lifted the soot, removed the filter and the casing on the heater motor - I exposed the wires going to the fan with small cuts - the current rang... when I turn on the valve, but it doesn’t work... I took out this valve, turned it sideways up and pushed it to the right wing of the car there it’s wider and it came out (I cut off the wires because I had to climb out of the inside to disconnect it into the rubber band and then put it in again; I don’t want to have to suffer with getting in... I disassembled this miracle; there were pre-prepared brushes on the table - but alas, on the armature of the motor there were copper contacts in contact with the brushes completely erased in two places...a dead spot appeared.... I note that the supply of brushes was still normal. The machine is 7 years old, the fan always worked constantly - in the cold in the summer in the warm in the winter... in short, if the motor does not work, it is better to immediately buy a new one ..... I didn’t find the bearing, there is a bronze seal on the side of the brushes, and as I understand it, you can’t get to the other side without breaking it..... a new motor costs 650 rubles. You have to go buy it and push it from under the hood..... I’ll carefully connect the wires clamp and insulate it. Now I understand why these motors are not repaired, but are advised to be replaced with a new one right away.

Why might the fan not work?

The fuse has blown.

The fuse number F7 with a current of 30A is responsible for the operation of the stove fan. If this fuse blows, the following in your car will not work: the cigarette lighter, the headlight washers, the light in the glove compartment and the heated rear window. Therefore, checking this point is quite easy. It is more difficult to fix the breakdown, because... If your fuse is blown, there is a short circuit somewhere that needs to be found before installing a new fuse.

The contacts in the mounting block have become sour.

Oxidized contacts are a very common problem. To make the fan work, just move the wires going to the mounting block.

The ignition relay is stuck.

If your stove is malfunctioning and only turns on when warm, then the problem is in the ignition relay. In this case, only replacing the relay, which is located under the instrument panel, will help.

The stove only works in the third position.

If this is the case, then you need to replace the additional resistor, because in the first two positions, the current to the stove goes through it.

The heater switch does not work.

To test the switch, take a 12-volt light bulb. To access the heater switch you need to remove the center console of the instrument panel. Now we do the following: turn on the ignition; We throw the negative wire from the light bulb onto the body, and alternately connect the other to the 1-2-3 outputs on an additional resistor. If the light comes on, the switch is working. If it does not light up, then you need to connect the light bulb to the positive wire on the position switch (blue-yellow wire). If the light does not light up, then you need to check the fuse or look for an open circuit.

The fan is not working.

If you have checked everything and the fan still does not work, it means either it is burned out, or it has poor ground contact, or the brushes are stuck in the motor.

Why the stove may not work:

Many motorists have encountered the fact that the heater fan on a VAZ-2114 stopped working. There are many reasons for this effect, and they can occur at any time. So, in this article, we will look at the reasons why the heater fan may not work, as well as methods of elimination.

Today this video is on topic for me. Thank you mega respect.

08/14/2017 – 04:45 Marcel Villi

Advice: You can tighten the old caps before installing the cabin filter, then definitely no crap will get inside. Thanks for the video

Absolutely the same story and replacement for me.

06.17.2017 – 19:37 Vladyukha Rulet

If you put a screensaver instead of a video, it won't be any worse. Which wire should you unscrew with the head? 1-2-3-4 screws were removed from the casing, but the screws are not on the video, I already took it apart and understood, but those who have never climbed may not understand what wires to pull out later is also not clear. Lan right now I’ll go make my own swallow, I’ll figure it out along the way, the principle is clear

06/08/2017 – 18:25 Ekaterina Vostretsova

We can’t get the electric heater motor into 14 How?

06/04/2017 – 15:23 Ekaterina Vostretsova 05/11/2017 – 05:42 Oleg Reznov

Tell me, where is this additional resistor located? Looks like I have a problem with it

05/02/2017 – 03:41 Your Masha

I just changed it in 14 and didn’t halve anything. The first time I changed the heater motor. In order to take out half of it, I trimmed one edge a little, I don’t know what to call it, where the motor fits. Not a single video showed anyone talking about this. In the video with 9, the guy got in and out easily, because he had no edges at all. and in this video the guy halved the new motor, due to the large sides near the bed. Well, something like this, and I also unscrewed the decorative ribbed border, it gives an extra mm... well, something like this, I don’t know if I described it clearly.

04/15/2017 – 13:42 Nikolay Mikhalevich

the director sucks, I don’t really understand anything

03.29.2017 – 15:06 Ivan Malyshev

How to assemble the motor in its place? into the black shit
