My car is very dynamic and comfortable inside. The appearance is very beautiful, as it has classic shapes without any biodesign. It's a shame that it was discontinued. I am sure that this is not due to the obsolescence of the model. The world has known cars that have been produced for much longer. Take Niva or Zhuk, for example. Therefore, they say that it has become a competitor to Grants and Kalinas, with which all dealer sites in the country are filled to capacity.

So I wrote a brief technical description of my car. I tried to be as similar as possible to a competent and clear expression of all the advantages:

The gear shift system has short throws and clear detent. The car is equipped with reinforced (sports) type drives and CV joints using grenades from a German manufacturer.

The VAZ 124 engine was developed on the basis of a previously developed unit for the 2112 model.   2. We install the new engine and connect it to the gearbox. To do this, you need to prepare the box in advance and change the GP and a number of gears in it. In the VAZ 2114 box, the crankcase is much smaller than in the 2112 box, therefore, you will need to struggle a little with connecting the clutch. There are three options for solving the problem: firstly, you can replace the flywheel with the clutch with similar ones from 2108, secondly, you can grind the crankcase, thirdly, take the flywheel and the crown from 2108, grind it and press the crown. The third option is the best, because it facilitates all mechanical articulation.
  3. The only problem with this option is the difficult and time-consuming replacement of the release bearings.

If you decide in advance to change the gearbox to a similar one from 2110, then this procedure will not cause problems at all. The only thing is that you need to replace the starter with the 2110, they are slightly different. By the way, you can save money if the starter is KATEK - you only have to change the overrunning clutch and head.

After we have a ready-made VAZ 2114 with a Priorovsky engine, it’s time for some upgrades that are needed to improve the quality of the car.

It is best to improve the following points:

  • Reflashing the “brain” - without this, the car will start, but it will work extremely poorly: instability will be audible to the “naked ear”, the system will constantly overflow fuel, and sometimes stall. Reflashing will completely solve all possible problems.
  • You can leave the old decorative cover, you just need to file it a little at the back and it will fit like a glove.
  • The TV may come off near the crabs. To avoid this, you can simply weld a thin-walled corner there or install a subframe.
  • You can put an additional brace under the fourth motor mount, it costs little and is useful.

Features of the power unit

The first “fourteenth” VAZ models were equipped with injection engines characterized by a displacement of 1499 cm³ and a power of 57.2 kW. Since 2007, under the hood of the Lada 2114 Samara-2 there was a four-stroke gasoline engine with a displacement of 1599 cm³, providing a power of 59.5 kW or 80 hp. With. This engine met the parameters of the Euro 3 eco-standard. The latest modernized model with the index 211440-24 has a sixteen-valve engine with an output of 89 horsepower.

The power supply system using distributive (phased) injection provides high dynamic capabilities, ensuring acceleration to 100 km/h in just 13 seconds. The maximum speed of the VAZ 2114 is 160 km/h. At the same time, the car consumes gasoline economically - only 9 l/100 km in the city.

A special feature of the engine characteristics of this model is the original location of the ceramic catalyst - near the engine itself (unlike its predecessors, which had a catalyst under the bottom). The difference between the cylinder block of the VAZ engine of the “fourteenth” model Lada Samara-2 is its changed volume, achieved by increasing the height of each of the cylinders by 0.23 cm.

Cooling

This moment of installation becomes a real problem, because the cooling systems are very different. The algorithm of actions here will be somewhat variable, everything will depend on what you can afford:

If you have the money, you can immediately change the radiator to 2112, but at the same time you will have to fool yourself with modifications to the “TV”, because the new radiator will be much wider. But you can leave the native one, then the problem will arise in the following point:

Although there won’t be any special cooling problems with the original radiator, the radiator from 2112 will more fully cope with cooling the Priorov “heart”.

Exhaust

With the exhaust system everything is much simpler than with the others.

There are two options to solve the problem:

  1. We buy an exhaust system for a 16 valve engine, change it completely and don’t fool ourselves.
  2. We buy only a spider of the 4-2-1 type, you need to buy it exactly the long one, in which there is a hole for the DC, the wires must be reached, but with a certain effort (it is better to lengthen it or replace it immediately with longer ones). A corrugation and a new pipe are placed behind the spider, while leaving the can as standard, but it will also need to be modified for the new system.

The original exhaust manifold is not useful in both options, and the second option is not much more economical, but requires more labor. Based on this, we can conclude that for nerves it is much easier to resort to the first option with a complete replacement, because the nervous system costs more than a small amount of money.

Transmission and chassis

All front-wheel drive cars of the VAZ family have a fundamentally similar chassis design. The front suspension is based on the MacPherson system, the rear suspension is a trailing arm. The steering, typical for all models, is rack and pinion.

Lada 2114 Samara-2 is equipped with a manual gearbox. The car is equipped with a five-speed gearbox (gearbox) with a rocker drive. Fundamentally, its design is similar to all those installed on other vase models. The main pair has a distinctive gear ratio of 3.7.

Video test drive

- a five-door hatchback from the Volzhsky Automobile Plant, a restyled version of the VAZ-2109, a continuation of the family under the code name “Samara-2”. The model differed from its predecessors in the original design of the front part of the body with new headlights, hood, radiator trim, bumpers and the presence of moldings.

The interior of the VAZ-2114 was equipped with a new instrument panel (the so-called “European panel”), an adjustable steering column, a steering wheel from the “tenth” family, a new heater design, and front power windows. The car was equipped with a 1.5-liter eight-valve engine (VAZ-2111) with distributed fuel injection.

Wiring

As soon as the engine from Priora is installed on the VAZ 2114, it is time for wiring. There will be a lot of work here, “examining” your fine motor skills and nervous system, but there is no need to physically strain yourself anymore. The algorithm is as follows:

  1. Ignition - we leave the original VAZ 2114 coil, but we change the cover and armored wires to 2112. By the way, you will also have to fiddle with the coil, there is not enough space - you will have to redo the mount.
  2. We add 40 cm of length in the wires: injector control, phase sensor and oil sensor.
  3. Everything else connects as needed, including the ECU.

Improved aerodynamics

The VAZ 2114 car excels in aerodynamic characteristics thanks to its well-designed body lines, providing excellent streamlining. As a result of the change in appearance, the drag coefficient has decreased.

External aerodynamic improvements of the Lada2114 Samara-2 also affected changes in the position of the air flow separation point. To do this, the designers had to change the angle of inclination of the most aerodynamically active front part of the car - the hood. The front fenders have also undergone changes.

As a result of the redistribution of the air flow, a smaller part of it is directed under the bottom, while the larger part is directed onto the hood and spreads over the body. These characteristics change the amount of total lift force, as a result of which the front and rear axles are unloaded. The even distribution of lift force allows the hatchback to behave in a balanced manner during high-speed driving.

General technical specifications

Individual technical characteristics that distinguish the “fourteenth” hatchback from its predecessors are the parameters of the five-door body. Its length is 4,122 meters, width – 1,650 m, height – 1,402 m. The car differs from the base model (VAZ 21093) by a slight extension. Machine weight – 985 kg.

The wheelbase is characterized by a width of the front wheels of 1.4 meters, the rear wheels – 1.37 meters. The trunk (with the rear seat up) has a volume of 330 dm³, with the rear seat folded down – 600 dm³.

The clearance from the asphalt to the crankcase is 160 mm, to the pan the clearance is 10 mm more.

From 2010 to the end of 2013, the VAZ 2114 was equipped with a 98-horsepower injection gasoline unit, allowing the car to reach a speed of 190 km/h. Acceleration to the first hundred takes 11.2 seconds. Gasoline consumption when driving within the city is up to 9.5 liters, on the highway - 5.4 liters, and in the combined cycle an average of 7 liters of fuel is consumed per 100 km.
