For us, Largus is a fresh car; it appeared on the market in 2012. It is still problematic to collect any statistics on cars with high mileage. But his relationship with Logan makes it possible to make certain forecasts, quite optimistic ones at that. Well, for now, let's see if the repair, maintenance and overall impression of owning Largus and good old Logan are very different.
About registration and emblem issues
As I already said, Largus is far from Lada in every sense of the word. In 2006, the Dacia Logan MCV was presented at the Paris Motor Show. This is an inexpensive, but even by European standards quite comfortable station wagon. By that time, the world already knew the Dacia Logan sedan and rated its reliability quite highly. Of course, the Dacia Logan MCV was also warmly received. Since 1999, Dacia has been owned by Renault-Nissan, which also owns a controlling stake in AvtoVAZ OJSC since 2014. It is not surprising that Largus is built on the B0 platform, the same one that is used in many alliance products, such as Renault Logan, Sandero, Duster, Nissan Tiida, Note, Almera and some others. Unlike Logan and Sandero, which came off the production line of the Moscow Avtoframos under the Renault brand, Largus is produced in Russia as Lada. In the process of preparing the serial Largus, some minor changes were made to the design of the Logan MCV, but in general it is still the same Logan.
What does this euphonious word “Largus” mean? Translated from Latin, "Largus" means "generous" or "extensive". With this name, the creators wanted to emphasize the volume of Largus, the space offered by the car to passengers, and in the modification of the van, to cargo. It’s unlikely that anything will come of it; no one here really knows Latin, but it sounds beautiful.
Engine
Largus is equipped with two types of engines: the eight-valve K7M 410 and the sixteen-valve K4M 490. Both engines are from Renault, both 1.6 liters. Our car is equipped with an eight-valve engine with 84 hp. This was the case before, until Nikolai, the owner of the car and a member of the unofficial Largus Club, installed a new camshaft and throttle valve and “chipped” the firmware. We'll talk more about tuning below, while we look at what remains untouched. The motors migrated here from Logan with many of their advantages and disadvantages, but we still managed to get rid of some. Both engines do not cause significant complaints, but they really do not like high oil levels. Even if its quantity does not exceed the norm, but approaches the upper mark of the dipstick, it is possible to leak through the crankshaft seals. In this case, the front oil seal has to be changed along with the sprocket. The fact is that when the oil is squeezed out, its wear begins, and the most interesting thing is that the oil seal grinds quite noticeable circular grooves on the metal sprocket. They are clearly visible in the photograph. The master explains the reasons for this amazing phenomenon: crankshaft sprockets have been known since the advent of Logan not only for their soft metal, but also for some unhealthy ovality. And if the second problem was dealt with, and an oval star has not yet been encountered on Largus, then the questions regarding the material have been preserved in full. Attempts to change only the oil seal without replacing the sprocket were unsuccessful. The service specialist warned: if you are buying a new car, check the oil level. If dealers take gasoline from under the huge toad strangling them, then there is usually a lot of oil in engines. If its level exceeds the mark, it must be drained. The best level, according to the specialist, is the mark exactly halfway between the minimum and maximum values.
The desire to save on spare parts and maintenance is in the blood of many owners of both Largus and Logan. The desire can be fulfilled, but there are things on which it is better not to skimp. These are, firstly, spark plugs (let’s be honest: this is not the amount to buy another Logan on margin), and secondly, a power steering sensor. This sensor is already known to Logan drivers; most likely, Largus owners will also learn about its tendency to “sweat” and sometimes leak. It is not worth replacing it with an analogue; it is better to purchase the original. I'll tell you a secret: you can throw it out altogether and screw in a plug. But - shh! Interfering with the steering is the last thing. The master does not advise being greedy when buying a throttle cable. There is no point in hiding the fact that it tends to unravel and periodically get stuck; the fact is well known. But it’s better to use the original one, because analogues are usually even worse. Engine maintenance will not put a dent in the Largus owner’s pocket, the work is not difficult, and consumables are quite affordable. For example, replacing a belt with a roller on an eight-valve car will cost 3,400 including labor and will take no more than an hour. Now two pieces of advice for those who like to tinker with the car on their own. Firstly, there is only one fuel filter, on the fuel pump, and the cartridge cannot be changed separately. However, on Logans after 2006 the same story is observed: only the fuel filter unit assembly is changed. On Logans, until 2006, the filter was located under the bottom, and the frequency of its replacement was 30 thousand. Then it “moved” to the gas tank, and Largus completely repeats this disposition of the element. And finally: if you decide to unscrew the candles for the first time in your life, then note that the fourth candle is screwed in at an angle, and not strictly vertically, like the others. Tighten it strictly according to the thread, preferably with your fingers first. Finding out by chance what a “futorka” is is usually unpleasant.
You should also treat the air conditioner radiator with care: its design, unfortunately, does not always allow it to survive even a high-pressure wash; we are not talking about pebbles from the road at all. Experts advise that you must install a protective mesh on the radiator grill or use another available method to protect this rather delicate element. We will finish the inspection of the engine in a cheerful A major: the pump on the Largus safely runs up to 120 thousand, and not up to 60, as was the case with these engines on the Logans.
Transmission
Here something new has appeared. Our Largus does not have a gearbox seal, which tended to leak on Logans. Actually, the drives here are also their own, this is how Largus differs from a car very similar to it. The car owner noticed that his comrades were encountering the problem of low service life of CV joint boots. The mechanics objected, saying there was no such problem. Just in case, we checked it on our specimen: all the anthers are intact and look new. This is good, the scales have tipped in favor of service station specialists. But you still need to look at the anthers: like on any other car, dirt and water getting into the joint damages the unit quite quickly. The gearbox is generally reliable, but there is a small drawback: the fifth gear is short, which forces you to drive on the highway at higher revs. This design feature does not affect the reliability of the unit, but some Largus owners lose their nerve and change the fifth gear gears to others with more convenient gear ratios, fortunately there is such an option.
Chassis
On the rear shock absorbers anyone can read: Renault. The suspension differs only slightly from the Logan one: they have different lengths of the rear beam arms. This beam caused a lot of trouble to the owners of the first Largus - its incorrect installation caused premature wear of the rubber. Now this defect does not exist.
What remains the same is the ball joint pressed into the lever. Unfortunately, its replacement is still only possible as an assembly with a lever. And if earlier they willingly took up the “collective farm” method of repair with re-pressing, now this method is not approved at service stations: although the design remains non-removable, it has acquired some minor changes that significantly reduce the reliability of this method. But here the craftsmen show generosity in relation to analogues: a spare part can be found cheaper than the original one, but the choice must be taken seriously, the quality can be very different. Our Largus is a van, which means it is used mainly for transporting goods. The owner says that the loads are generally not heavy, but oversized. The service station specialist immediately notices: the irresistible urge of some Largus owners to fill the car to capacity with bricks leads to rapid failure of the silent blocks. They do not like overloads, and their service life very much depends on how often the car drives with overload.
While the car is on the lift, let's note one detail that is not related to the chassis. This is a non-separable muffler, which can only be changed using an angle grinder. This design is typical of many budget cars, and Largus is no exception.
Body and interior
Of course, both as a seven-seater car and as a van, the Largus is in demand in Russia, even very much in demand. And this is a huge merit not only of the B0 platform that performed well on the Logans, but also of the body. Taking into account the different assembly of these machines, it is sad to see the same shortcomings. Firstly, the windshield frame likes to rust, especially at the top. Our car doesn't have this. Experts say it will. As well as rust at the welding joints of the thresholds. But on the edges of the rear door openings, traces are already noticeable. It’s too early for a two-year-old car, and you can’t help but grieve about it. The plastic used for exterior decoration is also weak and sad, like a kitten in the pouring rain. The area above the exhaust pipe is already bending and melting under the influence of exhaust gases. The decorative radiator grille trims that extend into the engine compartment are deformed under the influence of engine heat. But at least this is not visible.

It would take a very long time to talk about everything that Largus experienced on his own skin. I felt a little sorry for you, so I listed only about half of what Largus experienced. Of course, xenon light, LED headlights, arch extensions and a bunch of floor mats, eyeglass cases and other little things. If I start talking about everything, then you risk going crazy, and I risk losing my job, so let’s focus on the main thing, on what will be immediately noticeable when traveling in this car.

The landing position in Largus is comfortable: it is high and provides excellent visibility for this class of car. And even before turning on the ignition we encounter two interesting elements. Firstly, the door panels here are from Renault Duster! Yes, oddly enough, they fit here one to one, without any alterations. And, of course, they look more solid. And taking into account noise and sound insulation, the door itself became heavier, which led to the appearance of a solid sound when the door closed. True, it takes a lot of force to slam it, but the sound of closing is impeccable. Rich sound, pleasant. And most importantly, after it there are almost no sounds coming from the street, and this is a plus for the noise.

Secondly, the instrument panel here is FERRUM GF690, and not the standard one from Logan. I don’t know about you, but I don’t really like the orange color of the backlight on the French panel. Although, of course, it's a matter of taste. Our panel is not only much prettier, it is also more functional: the on-board computer reads many readings from the “brains”, and everything works out quite well for it. He couldn’t decide a little about the outside air temperature, but that’s a question for the installers, no one knows where they put the sensor. God be with her, with the temperature, the thermometer does not affect the speed. The engine influences, and we are just starting it. At idle, something is clearly wrong: they jump from 930 to 980 rpm. You can feel the vibration, and it's not very pleasant. But all this is just one side of the coin. The name of this medal is internal combustion engine tuning, which consists of replacing the camshaft, chipping, and replacing the throttle valve. After adjustment on the stand, the engine produced 113 hp. instead of 84, and this is a good result. If you can put up with a slightly rough idle, you can even enjoy it. But - by giving it the gas and making it spin a little more vigorously. The pedals seemed too soft to me, but it’s easy to get used to. At first, things didn't work out with shifting gears either. The moves are small, but unclear; you have to get used to such switching. But the car runs well! Of course, its dynamics are far from those of a rocket, but for a van it’s quite decent. The engine comes to life and even provokes a little. But we don’t exceed the speed limit (or at least don’t admit it publicly) and don’t give in to the desire to “stomp” even faster. Although a machine can do it. Of course, a regular Largus with an eight-valve engine is noticeably slower. By the way, I had experience with exactly the same tuning on a sixteen-valve engine. It was possible to extract 128 (versus 105 stock) “horses” from it with a better increase in torque and without unpleasant phenomena at idle. To be honest, I don’t understand why Largus needs all this, but I admit: he drives well. While driving, one small wish appears: instead of a rear beam, I would like a “multi-link”, but... Are we asking a lot from a van?

From what has been done, I would like to note that the xenon light is very good. The owner of Largus took care not only of himself, but also of other road users, and therefore attached special importance to the correct adjustment and direct choice of lighting equipment. Before this, there was an attempt to install diodes, but although the light beam was powerful, it was not possible to configure it correctly, focusing turned out to be very mediocre.

Let’s now take a break from our specific car and say a few words about Largus in general. The car turned out to be successful, and the high demand for it is proof of this. It works well as a family car and as a commercial van. Of course, Largus is not flawless, but it is worth the money. AvtoVAZ OJSC still has many interesting ideas in its plans, including equipping it with a domestic engine, which, as we found out, is expected. Most likely, with our unit the car will turn out to be faster, which will attract new potential buyers to it. Well, we will find out over time how the new motor will perform during operation.

Now it is necessary to determine the speed threshold, upon reaching which the locking will occur.
To do this, connect a computer or laptop using an adapter to the diagnostic connector and in the running program (for example, DDT2000), the door locking function is enabled, and the speed threshold is set.
The feature is now enabled, but not yet activated.
To activate the function in Lada Largus, you need to press the lock button located on the instrument panel and wait for a sound notification (about 5 seconds), which indicates successful activation.
