Replacing the Kalina steering rack boot
Repairing Kalina's steering rack is not a cheap pleasure; you will need to not only remove it from the car, but also buy a repair kit. To delay this moment, it is recommended to periodically check and, if necessary, service the steering rack, for example, change the protective cover. |
You will need : disconnect the intermediate shaft of the steering column from the rack, as well as the steering rods (see “replacing the Kalina rack”), prepare a socket wrench “13”, side cutters and lubricant for the Kalina steering rack (FIOL-1).
To remove the steering rack protective cover you will need:
- Unscrew 2 fastening nuts on both sides of the rack using a 13mm socket wrench.
- Remove the brackets (left and right).
- Cut off the plastic clamps using side cutters.
- Remove the steering rack boot.
- Remove the right support.
- Cut off the plastic clamps (on the left and right sides) using side cutters.
- Remove the steering rack protective cover.
Installation of the steering rack boots is carried out in the reverse order, after first adding lubricant (FIOL-1) to the internal cavity of the steering gear housing.
Such a simple operation will help extend the life of the steering mechanism and delay the repair of the Kalina rack.
By the way, if the steering rack starts to knock, try adjusting it.
