With the advent of the new modification of the Lada Granta liftback, AVTOVAZ began to use new components in the design of the car, for example, door stops of a new type. Let's figure out why they are better than the old ones, and what is required to install them.

Differences between old and new door stops

Old-style door stops (catalog number: 11180-6106082-20 and 11180-6206082-10) are metal and have some disadvantages:

Squeaks and clicks may appear when opening doors; if lubricated, the extraneous noise will disappear for a while;
There is no reliable door locking or door closer function.

The new door stops (article: 21920-6106082 and 2192-6206082) made in the Czech Republic have a modified design and are free of these shortcomings. That is:

during operation, these parts will not produce any extraneous sounds;
open doors can be fixed in two positions (full opening, half opening);
a closer function has appeared (the doors slam themselves).

The new door closers are suitable for Lada Granta and Kalina models (first and second generation) without modifications. Priora has different doors and design, so new limiters without modifications will not be suitable for this model.

Express lubrication of door hinges, stops and locks Lada Granta

According to the regulations, at each maintenance (every 15 thousand km) on a Lada Granta car it is necessary to lubricate: door hinges, rubbing areas of door opening limiters, hinges and springs of the fuel tank hatch and door keyholes. Below is an excerpt from the instruction manual.

This is done not only to prevent the doors from creaking when opening/closing, but also to prevent their premature wear. There are several ways to treat rubbing surfaces, but not all of them are correct, and some may even be harmful.

Replacing door stops

You will need: buy door stops (21920-6106082 and 2192-6206082) and prepare nuts “for 10” - 8 pcs.

Remove the door trim and speaker;
Unscrew the bolts securing the limiter to the door using an “8” wrench;
Unscrew the bolt securing the limiter to the body using a 13mm wrench;
Pull the door stop out through the column hole.

Installation of a new limiter is carried out in the reverse order, observing the markings indicated on the closer (FL-front left, FR-front right, RL-rear left, RR-rear right). There is no need for standard fastening bolts; instead, we use “10” nuts. Installation and comparison of limiters of the old and new samples are shown in the video:

Due to the fact that during the production of doors a slight deviation in the dimensions of parts is allowed, after replacement some stops may catch on the edge of the metal of the door. In this case, you can slightly remove/bend the edge of the window in the door.

This section will describe all the features of operations for dismantling and installing Granta body and interior elements.

Body Grants

is an all-metal, load-bearing structure. At the moment, the market is presented as a four-door sedan, but in the future it is planned to launch the Granta hatchback. The body consists of several parts electrically welded together: the sidewalls, roof and frame parts are welded to the base. The body of the Lada Granta is a non-separable structure with high rigidity, which allows it to carry all the components of the car, mounted body components and interior parts.

Attachable components include side doors, hood, front fenders, front and rear bumpers. The doors and hood are secured to the body using hinges. The front fenders are attached to the body with bolts, the front and rear bumpers are attached with bolts and screws.

The front side doors are equipped with electric windows, depending on the version. The glass of the side doors and sides, as well as the rear glass, is curved, polished, and tempered. The windshield is three-layer, which is glued into the body opening. The same can be said about the rear window, which is additionally equipped with electric heating. The front seats are separate. They have only mechanical adjustment of the longitudinal position and angle of the backrest. The rear seat includes a cushion and a backrest. The rear seatback can be folded down to increase luggage space. The seat can also be folded separately from the backrest.

All seat belts are of the inertia type, with an additional ISOFIX child anchorage. The interior contains a heater, sun visors, and a rear-view mirror. The vehicle is equipped with front and rear towing lugs. In the optional version (luxury configuration), air conditioning, electrically heated front seats, a removable ashtray and a cigarette lighter can be additionally installed.

The latter is a part that serves as a limiter. It helps prevent various types of damage to the door. In addition, the spare part serves for the following purposes:

silent door opening;

maintaining the appearance of the body.

In the absence of a latch, the door opens too much, which can lead to a collision with the fender, a nearby car, a pole or a tree. To avoid this type of damage, clamps are installed on the mechanisms.

Features and characteristics of elements

Closer limiters with 3-position fixation are intended for various domestically produced cars. In this case, the element is suitable for Lada Priora. Previous vehicle models came with only one locking position. Today it is possible to install door closers that already have 3 different positions:

Safety

The working stroke of the side door closers is so small (6–7 mm) that only a finger can be pinched. On the interior side, the manufacturer does not leave any places where, for example, a child could find a gap in which a finger would be pinched. But the outer edges of the door still form gaps. However, you can only put a pencil in there.

This is how the Audi Q8 door closer bites through a pencil.

Children should not operate the tailgate drives. Well, for an adult, the maximum force developed by the drive and not exceeding 10 kg at the edge of the door is not dangerous. If this force is exceeded, the door stops and even - on some cars - begins to open.

Harmful "lubricants"

Let me make a reservation right away that it is categorically not recommended to lubricate with it - this is WD-40 penetrating lubricant. Why? Because half of its composition is white spirit (50%), due to which it has penetrating ability. However, this same white spirit washes out all the lubricant that still remains between the rubbing surfaces and, after evaporation, leaves them almost “dry”. WD-40, of course, contains 15% mineral oil, but this is too little to provide a sufficient lubricating effect. If it is achieved, it will not be for long. WD-40 is not intended to lubricate surfaces, so it is better to use another lubricant.

Replacing pins in hinges

So, if the repair only involves replacing the fingers, then the first thing you will need to do is remove the door to gain access to the hinges (3-4 fasteners are simply unscrewed, depending on the model). Next, the fingers are knocked out. If they do not come out due to corrosion or deformation, then you should first thoroughly fill everything with WD-40 to remove the rust and repeat the operation. If this fails, you will have to drill out the pins or replace the hinges completely.

When installing new pins, be sure to lubricate them with grease or oil, and after installation, adjust the door (lower or raise it a few millimeters through a tightening rod). The door should fit accurately into the catch when closing without additional physical effort. Otherwise, the wear and tear on both doors and hinges will be much higher. After 1-2 years of such operation, you will have to completely replace the door along with the hinges.

Express method

In this article we will look at one of the fastest ways to lubricate rubbing surfaces in Lada Granta door mechanisms. For this, we will use Hi-Gear aerosol silicone lubricant, which is very similar to WD-40, but is not its analogue, since their composition is very different.

Some will argue that silicone lubricant is intended exclusively for rubber and plastic parts. However, on the can, in the first place in the list we see “for metal”. Obviously, the manufacturer took care of special additives that provide the lubricant with the necessary properties.

This method is called the “express method” because it does not involve unscrewing the door hinge axis (cone bolt) for subsequent application of grease. Of course, lubricating car door hinges with silicone grease is not the best way, since the lubricating effect does not last as long as when using grease, but it is very simple and fast.

If you have enough time and desire, it is better to lubricate the door hinges thoroughly. This will be discussed in a separate article, but for now we’ll make do with silicone lubricant.

The lubrication procedure is very simple, so I won’t tell you much, just watch it and you’ll understand everything. So let's get started.

Lubricating door handles. First, let's lubricate the door handles. To do this, pull the handle towards you and spray lubricant into the openings formed.

Lubrication of keyholes. Then we insert the tube into the keyhole and spray the lubricant there. Remove excess grease with a rag.

Lubricating the door lock. Next, open the doors and lubricate the inside of the door lock.

Lubricating door hinges. Lubricate the upper and lower door hinges.

Lubricating the door stop. Next, lubricate the limiter and its rubbing surfaces.

We lubricate all other doors in the same way: door handles, lock cylinders, the inside of the lock, door hinges and the stopper.

Lubricating the springs of the fuel tank hatch. According to the regulations, you also need to lubricate the gas tank flap, or rather its spring in places of friction.

Since I had already started lubricating the locks, I decided to lubricate the hood lock at the same time, spraying all the rubbing parts.

The trunk lock was also not spared.

We remove the limiter to replace it, as well as when repairing the door (straightening, painting).

To avoid damaging the door, do not swing it open after removing the door stop.

1. Remove the door trim and remove the plastic film.

2. Using light hammer blows through a drift, knock out the axial pin of the limiter rod upwards.

3. Using a 10 mm socket wrench, unscrew the two bolts securing the door opening limiter.

4. Remove the stopper from the door.

We install the door opening limiter in the reverse order and lubricate it with grease.

How does it work

In appearance, the electric drive resembles a gas-filled tailgate stop - only thicker and longer (according to the laws of mechanics, greater movement requires less force). In addition, numerous devices must fit inside. The main element is a screw-nut pair that passes through almost the entire drive. An electric motor is installed at the end, which rotates the lead screw through a reduction planetary two-stage gearbox. A coil spring that works in compression helps lift a heavy door.

A device with feedback is required

This role is played by the Hall sensor, which controls the rotation of the motor armature. The operation of the two drives is controlled by an electronic unit. The tailgate can be opened by command from the remote control, or by pressing the button on the door when the car is disarmed, or, finally, in the most effective way - by running your foot under the bumper.
You can close the opening from the remote control by pressing a button on the door trim or a button from the interior.
