The multivibrator on transistors T1 and T2 generates rectangular pulses, which are fed to the base of transistor T3, in the collector circuit of which the electromagnetic relay P1 is connected. The duration of the pulses arriving at the input of transistor T3 varies from 1 to 30 s depending on the position of the variable resistor R2 slider, and the operating period of relay P1 changes accordingly. Normally closed contacts 1P1 and 2P1 of relay P1 are connected in parallel and are used to control the windshield wiper motor.
When connecting an electronic machine to a standard windshield wiper, you need to disconnect clamp “3” from the chassis so that in the future contacts 1P1 and 2P1 of relay P1 (see Fig. 1) can be connected to point “3” and the chassis (common minus). At the same time, it remains possible to operate the windshield wiper in normal (non-automatic) mode.
After applying voltage to the electronic device, relay P1 is activated and contacts 1P1 and 2P1 break the power supply circuit of the windshield wiper motor 0.3-0.5 s after the closure of toggle switch B1. The time during which the electric motor is turned off depends on the duration of the control pulses arriving at the base of transistor T3 from the multivibrator (see Fig. 1).
After the pause ends, the contacts of relay P1 close and the windshield wiper starts working. Using variable resistor R2, the duration of pauses can be changed. Just as in continuous operation, the auto-stop switches off the electric motor only after the wiper blades have returned to their original position on the windshield.
Note that the electronic automatic machine allows you to use the windshield wiper in any of the continuous operation modes (with low or high speed of movement of the brushes). In the event of a failure of the electronic unit, the windshield wiper remains operational in normal mode.
Instead of variable resistor R2, you can install a small-sized switch with 2-5 operating positions (for example, a PKM cam switch), which switches several constant resistors. Their resistance is selected in such a way as to obtain the desired duration of the pause between switching on the wiper motor.

The selection of the windshield wiper operating program is carried out using a multi-pole cam switch with five positions, type PKM9-1 (B1-B9), which is installed on the driver’s panel. Initially, as shown in Fig. 2, all contacts of PKM9-1 are open, its handle is in the first position and the windshield wiper does not work. In the second position of the switch, switch B1 closes and the windshield wiper begins to operate in continuous mode with the blades slowly moving across the windshield. The additional resistance Rd of the excitation winding circuit OB2 of the electric motor is short-circuited, and the windshield wiper is switched to the second continuous mode with accelerated movement of the brushes. In the fourth position of the PKM9-1 switch, switches B1, B2 and VZ are opened, and B4, B6, B8 are closed. In this case, power is supplied to the electronic unit and the first automatic mode is set with pauses of 5 seconds between switching on the wiper motor. In the fifth position of PKM9-1, the second automatic mode is set with pauses of 10 s between switching on the windshield wiper (B4, B6 and B8 are open, B5, B7 and B9 are closed).

Then we take about fifty centimeters of a pair of single-core wires or one two-core wire and solder one wire to the free leg of the resistor, and the second to the place where you just soldered the free leg.
It is advisable that the wires be wrapped in a special transparent heat-shrinkable casing, as it guarantees excellent insulation. We put the tube on the connection itself and barely heat it with a lighter, which will make it shrink and settle tightly. This method is much more effective than electrical tape. We are not finished with the windshield wiper pause relay yet, although both wires are already soldered. Now we make a knot on them so that we don’t accidentally tear them off due to carelessness and cover the relay cover, simultaneously pulling these wires along with the standard ones. Don’t forget to glue the cover of the wiper pause relay itself, for example, with a hot glue gun.
After this, we pick up a variable-type resistor with an arbitrary resistance value (for example, 100 Kom). If you want to extend the pause between sweeps of the wipers, then I advise you to choose a resistor with a value of more than 100 Kom. The higher its resistance, the longer the pause. 100 Kom means an interval of ten seconds, and 200 Kom means seventeen and so on. I strongly do not recommend choosing a resistance of 500 Kom, since the accuracy of setting the pause will be significantly reduced.
We take this variable resistor and any of the two wires to solder it to the central contact, and solder the second wire to any extreme contact of your choice. That's it, job done.
Now we take the modified relay, install it back on the car, and it is advisable to place the resistor closer to the windshield wiper switch, for example, on the steering column. You can arrange the mechanism of use entirely at your own discretion. There are no longer any boundaries in this matter.
As you can see, adapting the wiper interval to your understanding of comfort is not very difficult. And the cost of brand new relays and resistors is not very high.
