Car : VAZ-2112. Asks : Kirilichev Konstantin. The essence of the question : What oil is best to pour into the VAZ-2112 gearbox, am I going to change it completely?
Good afternoon Please tell me what oil is best to fill in the VAZ-2112 gearbox? I have never changed it, and my mileage is already more than 100 thousand kilometers. I would like to know which manufacturer and other technical parameters are best suited for my car?
How does the checkpoint work?
To understand why high-quality oil is the key to good gearbox performance, you need to understand what this unit does and how it works. The engine rotates the crankshaft at a fairly high speed, but with low torque, which is why the transfer of energy directly from the engine to the wheels is possible only at high speeds, where it is enough to maintain a given pace of movement. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the crankshaft rotation speed while simultaneously increasing the torque. This is exactly what the gearbox does. Regardless of the type of gearbox, the principle of operation is always the same - a gearbox consisting of a large and small gear either reduces the shaft rotation speed, increasing torque, or, conversely, increases the rotation speed, reducing torque. At the same time, the power remains unchanged.
Gear shifting occurs due to a different combination of the drive and driven gears of the gearbox. In a manual (manual) transmission, the driver, using a lever that operates the fork system, connects the desired combination of gears. In an automatic transmission (automatic transmission), this process is controlled by various systems. In CVT gearboxes, there is no control system, and its function is performed by a drive gear or pulley, depending on the design of the unit.
When the gearbox converts rotation speed and torque, its gears come into close contact with each other, causing their teeth to wear out under the influence of friction. The oil almost completely eliminates friction, thereby reducing gear wear. When shifting gears, the forks activate the gears, moving them along the primary and secondary shafts, causing their teeth to mesh. High-quality oil facilitates gear shifting and lubricates and cools gears and bearings. In automatic transmissions, oil cools the electrical and mechanical components of the box, and is also often the working medium of the gear selection system. All this allows us to conclude that the oil should be:
- quality;
- corresponding gearbox for viscosity;
- corresponding gearboxes for maximum and minimum temperatures.
General information about manual transmission
The gearbox in a car is the most important structural driving element of the entire transmission. The vehicle's gearbox is designed to transform the torque from the engine to the chassis, the speed and direction of movement of the vehicle, and also serves to permanently disconnect the engine from the transmission. So:
- A manual gearbox (this type is installed on the VAZ 2112 and many other VAZ models, in everyday life it is simply a mechanic or a manual transmission) is a cylindrical multi-stage gearbox, in which only manual gear shifting is developed
- There are four-speed and five-speed (no longer required for VAZs), there are also six-speed, seven-speed and even more gearboxes
- As you understand, the classification depends on the number of stages (gears), reverse gear is not considered in this classification
- For example, a four-speed gearbox has four forward gears and a reverse gear, and so on.
- The main advantages of a mechanical box are: simplicity and reliability of the design. Possibility of manual control in any mode of movement of the machine
- Thanks to these qualities, manual transmission is still the most common type of transmission.
- However, today, more and more consumers are choosing automatic transmissions
About types of transmission oils
During the procedure, you should know what kind of oil to pour into the box of the VAZ 2110.
They are divided into 3 types:
- Synthetic. Characterized by a high degree of purification. The composition includes various additives that protect parts from corrosion. Replacement is carried out every 65-75 thousand km.
- Semi-synthetic. The percentage of additives is much lower, so the oil is changed more often. It is advisable to carry out this procedure every 45-55 thousand km. The advantage is lower cost.
- Mineral. Refers to unrefined oils. Loss of properties is observed after 20-30 thousand kilometers. After this it must be replaced.
In surveys conducted among motorists about which oil to put in the box of a VAZ 2110, the majority expressed their preference in favor of semi-synthetics. This was motivated by the fact that in harsh climates and difficult roads there is increased wear of gears. Therefore, after 50 km, an oil change is necessary.
Transmission fluid selection
Given the wide range of climates in Russia, car portals often conduct surveys about what kind of oil car owners pour into the VAZ-2110 box. Based on the survey results, it can be argued that more than 70% of motorists have chosen semi-synthetics. The rationale for the choice is quite simple - harsh climate and frequent use of the car expose the gearbox to serious wear, which prompts frequent oil changes (50 - 60 thousand km) to maintain the working condition of the car.
Which manufacturer is better to choose?
Opinions about transmission manufacturers differ greatly; some support domestic manufacturers, while others, on the contrary, rely on the recommendations of well-known car factories. Which gear oil is better, and which one you choose, depends only on your personal point of view and the ability to evaluate and listen to the advice of experts. According to leading car factories such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW, the best brands are:
The AvtoVAZ fan club supports both a selection of reputable brands and Russian manufacturers, for example, Rosneftekhim, Lukoil, Rosneft. In any case, the choice of high-quality gear oil for the VAZ-2110 gearbox occurs through a long selection process, where each car owner goes through a long journey of testing and experimentation.
Step by step replacement
Draining the transmission
Correct and complete draining occurs only after a short trip, when the lubricating fluid has not yet completely warmed up, but has lost its viscosity. Follow step by step:
- Place the car on a lift and turn it off.
- Remove the breather plug and clean them.
- Raise the car.
- Prepare an empty container.
- Carefully unscrew the drain plug.
- The oil will drain completely in 10 - 15 minutes.
- Screw the plug into place.
If chips or foreign small objects are found in the drained liquid, it is recommended to wash the box with a special compound that can be purchased at the store.
Flushing the gearbox
Washing the VAZ-2110 gearbox is carried out in order to completely clean the box from foreign objects in the form of chips, dirt and other small particles. First purchase flushing fluid from a car dealership and perform all the steps sequentially:
- Raise the front wheels of the vehicle onto a stable platform.
- Pour in 1 liter of rinse and tighten the filler cap.
- Start the engine.
- Engage the first gear and wait in this mode for 10 - 15 minutes.
- Turn off the engine.
- Drain the flushing liquid (5 - 10 minutes until completely clean).
- Add fresh oil.
Flushing must be carried out once every 3-4 complete replacements of the transmission, since a large amount of dirt accumulates in the gearbox housing, which negatively affects the properties of even the most expensive and high-quality oil.
Fill with fresh transmission oil
Changing transmission fluid is a simple process unless you are doing it for the first time. When the car has been completely prepared for filling, and the necessary parts have been cleaned and tightened, prepare fresh oil, an oil syringe or funnel and follow the instructions:
- Insert a funnel into the filler neck.
- Pour in the required amount of liquid (preferably 3.5 liters).
- Wait 10 - 15 minutes, allowing the oil to drain.
- Check the level with a dipstick.
If the gearbox does not have a filler neck, use an oil syringe, extending its end with a flexible hose:
- Insert a hose with a syringe into the filler hole.
- Gradually add oil.
- The control level is the bottom of the filler hole.
- Screw the plug tightly.
Don't forget to give the oil a chance to drain and disperse to all parts of the gearbox. The process is completely completed and the car is ready to go.
Stages of work
Immediately before changing the oil in the gearbox, it is necessary to warm it up. To do this, it is enough to drive about 10–15 kilometers. In order to replace the lubricant in a VAZ 2115 car, you need to do the following:
- Place the machine on a horizontal surface. It is more convenient to carry out replacement from a hole in the garage or on a lift.
- Remove the protection of the engine trays and/or transmission. The protection does not need to be dismantled if it has a hole that exactly matches the drain plug.
- Wipe the lid and box housing around it with a rag.
- Check for oil leaks along the parting lines and seals.
- Place the container and unscrew the cap.
- Wait about 20 minutes for the oil to drain completely.
- Screw the cover onto the gearbox housing.
- Lubricant can be filled using a syringe for transmission fluids or a funnel with an extension. In the second case, it is necessary to remove the air filter housing; the device is held on by two clamps - the throttle assembly and the crankcase ventilation tube. Since the VAZ 2115 uses an injection engine, when removing the filter it is necessary to disconnect the air flow sensor connector. Some owners remove the absorber tank to make access easier.
- Then you need to remove the dipstick from the hole that will serve as the oil filler neck.
- Pour 2.8-2.9 liters of oil using a funnel or syringe. When changing the lubricant, a smaller volume of liquid is always poured into the crankcase than the rated capacity of the box. This is due to the fact that some old oil remains inside.
- Wait a few minutes and check the amount of fluid on the dipstick. If the level is below o, the oil must be added. Excess lubricant can be pumped out with a medical syringe with a volume of 50 ml or more with a dropper tube attached to the nozzle.
- After this, you need to check that there are no lubricant leaks through the drain plug and box components. If traces of a leak are noticeable, then the cause of its occurrence must be eliminated.
- If the lubricant was replaced while the filter was removed, the parts should be reassembled in the reverse order.
- After 500-700 km, it is necessary to perform a control check of the oil level and the tightness of the unit components.
Detailed algorithm for changing the oil in a CABLE gearbox
The oil from the Lada Granta gearbox is drained through the “bottom” plug. It is unscrewed with a 17 key.
The simplest thing is to drain the oil
You need to unscrew the cap like this: make 1-2 turns with the key, then substitute the container. And then unscrew the plug by hand.
When the liquid flows out, wipe the surface of the crankcase. We tighten the plug back (torque – 29-46 N*m). Getting ready to refuel.
Hose and funnel are ready for use
Let's say refueling goes through the switch hole. Place a hose in the hole and install a funnel. And we begin to fill in new oil.
Access to the control plug is blocked by the crankcase protection. If the plug was not unscrewed during preparation, measure exactly 2.2 liters. And if the control is carried out “according to regulations”, let the body be tilted to the right: place a suitable load in the passenger compartment or trunk. Tilt angle – 2-3 degrees (no longer needed).
Fill oil through the inspection hole
The photo shows how everything looks if you follow the regulations. The bottom plug is twisted, the top one is the opposite. And refilling is done using a syringe.
This is what it looks like on an authorized service
Oil enters the Lada Granta gearbox through the hole in the “upper” plug.
The crankcase guard is missing in the photo. It had to be removed.
Choosing the right oil
Replacement process
You need to select transmission oil for the VAZ 2110 taking into account the recommendations of the automaker. The key parameter for choosing a gearbox lubricant is viscosity - based on this characteristic, oils can be divided into classes.
The degree to which the lubricant matches the operating parameters of the transmission also plays an important role. As for the viscosity classification, it looks like this:
- all-season oil for gearbox VAZ 2110;
- summer oil;
- oil for winter use of cars.
Read about changing the oil at this link.
All-season oils
All-season oil, as the name implies, can be used all year round. It is great for regions where temperature changes are not very significant throughout the year. All-season oils usually have the following parameters:
- 75W-90
- 80W-140
Summer oils
Summer oil
As for summer oils for the VAZ 2110 gearbox, they are intended for those regions where the temperature in the summer season differs significantly from the winter. Summer oils have the following viscosity indices:
- 80W
- 85W
- 90W
- 140W
- 250W
Winter oils
Winter oil for the VAZ 2110 gearbox may have the following types of indices on the packaging:
- 70W
- 75W
- 80W
- 85W
Note that the higher the number, the higher the thickness of the transmission oil.
What is poured is poured
No matter how much car manufacturers get ridiculed, no matter how many liters of engine capacity they set, no matter what type of fuel they convert their creations to, Harry Ford, a hundred years ago, said “Transmission”, and they will not be able to change anything in the basic design another century and a half.
And in the database we have the same gearbox - that is, a crankcase, a set of different-sized gears and oil, which ensures reliable operation of all the components of the automobile body. And no matter what problems happen along the way, any car owner should know how to change the oil in a traditional manual transmission of a native VAZ or in an automatic transmission of a foreign car.
The fundamental principle of replacement is the same - whatever brand of lubricant the manufacturers poured into the crankcase is the one to fill in for replacement. Unfortunately, car owners often think that they can pour engine oil into the box when replacing it. But this is not at all true, since, unlike engine oil, gearbox oil has a different viscosity and temperature characteristics.
Taking into account the difference in temperature conditions and other nuances of the operation of the units, top-class car mechanics then have to deal with such a fatal mistake. Therefore, do not experiment - the lubricant for the VAZ 2114 gearbox must correspond exactly to what the manufacturers poured into it. Otherwise, you won't have any trouble.
What is the best oil to put in a VAZ 2110 box and how to replace it yourself?
Currently, the domestic market offers a huge number of motor oils intended for gearboxes. The driver must be able to choose the right one and know how to pour it into the box himself.
Before visiting an auto store, you should carefully study the manual for the VAZ 2110 vehicle, in which the manufacturer gives recommendations regarding the quality of fluid suitable for filling into the gearbox.
Today, world-famous manufacturers present the following types of gearbox oil to domestic car enthusiasts:
- Synthetic;
- Mineral;
- Semi-synthetic.
According to many experts, for a VAZ 2110 modification vehicle, as well as for other models, synthetic oils are most suitable, with which the car can be operated even in extreme conditions (how many liters should be poured into the box can be found in the instructions for the car, Appendix No. 11 on the use of operating fluids).

If the car owner does not have free finances to purchase expensive synthetic products, he can buy a completely worthy substitute - semi-synthetic gear oil. Every driver must remember that under no circumstances should mineral and synthetic oils be mixed.
When is it time to change the oil?
Instructions for changing gearbox oil on Lada Priora
On average, an oil change in a car needs to be done after 30-40 thousand kilometers of driving. However, this is a general case and the transmission oil needs to be examined every 10 thousand kilometers (during a technical inspection), because special circumstances may arise or problems may arise that you are not even aware of (for example, an oil leak).
The vehicle's technical manual describes in detail all the indicators at which the oil should be replaced with new one. This can be either the mileage traveled or the desired period of time.
Typically, manufacturers advise replacing them once every 60-90 thousand kilometers or once every three years, but in special operating conditions it is advisable to do this twice as often.
There are some cases in which an oil change is mandatory, even if the specified period has not passed and the car has not driven a long distance:
- If during one of the checks it was noticed that there is too little liquid in the box.
- Silver dust was found in the transmission fluid.
- If the liquid for some unknown reason has changed color (for example, it has become browner or completely black). This may be caused by deteriorating elements or water entering the liquid.
What if you take engine oil?
Only special motor oil is used for the transmission. Although there are some foreign manufacturers who advise using regular motor oil instead (Honda, Peugeot, Chrysler).
If we think logically, this is a dubious idea, because motor oil has a lower density and is unlikely to protect transmission parts as well as a denser substance specifically designed for this purpose.
So, you can find out how much oil is poured into the gearbox both in the technical documents for the car and at the service point, although there are also average values for this indicator.
It is also important to select the correct oil for each road condition and weather and change it on time. If you follow these simple rules, the transmission will last much longer.

Selecting oil is a responsible matter
VAZ 2110 how to check the oil in the gearbox
In addition to doing the work of adding oil to the transmission, you need to know how to select it. There are many different brands and models of oil on the market. An experienced motorist will find this task very easy, but a beginner will have to do a fair bit of shopping.
VAZ 2110 what oil to pour into the box
It should be noted that oil is used for manual transmissions, and transmission fluid is used for cars with automatic transmissions. If it is not possible to spend time choosing an oil, it is better to entrust this work to professionals who have been carrying out similar work for a long time. These are workers at the technological service station. They will not only help you choose the brand of oil, but also replace it if necessary. One of the options for choosing gearbox oil is to study the vehicle maintenance and operation manual. In most cases, it comes to the user along with the car. All that remains is to look for the required item, find out the brand of oil and go to the nearest store to purchase it.
Reasons for using oil in a box
The amount of oil in the box of a VAZ 2110
Reasons to use oil should be considered:
- The gearbox contains a large number of different mechanisms that constantly create friction with each other. In order for their operation to remain constant and the parts to wear out less, the oil level in the gearbox should be constantly maintained (insufficient oil in the VAZ 2110 gearbox will lead to failures).
- The mechanical load with the use of oil is significantly reduced.
- Oil has the ability to remove residual corrosion and rust. It helps reduce the temperature of parts during operation of the mechanisms.
Main types of oils
Not many indicators differ between motor oil and the one used for the gearbox. There are three main types of this liquid:
- Synthetic oil (the best oil for VAZ 2110 boxes).
- Semi-synthetic oil.
- Mineral oil.
When your vehicle is subjected to constant extreme use, synthetic transmission oil is the best option. The only drawback of this product is that its cost is sometimes too high. When there is a desire to save money, but at the same time not harm the car, or rather its spare parts in the gearbox, you can use semi-synthetic oil.
One of the main parameters of gearbox oil is its viscosity. According to this parameter, oils are divided into several classes. The degree of compliance with the operating parameters of the car is also important. Just as types of oil are divided into three varieties, there are also three main classes of lubricant according to viscosity parameter:
- All-season oil for the VAZ 2110 gearbox.
- Summer oil.
- Winter oil for the box of the VAZ 2110.
All-season VAZ 2110 gearbox oil can be used in any season of the year. It is of particular importance when the climate in the country remains virtually unchanged throughout the year and there are no sharp temperature changes throughout the year. Such oils have an index:
Summer oils should naturally be used in the summer. They are designed for those countries where summer temperatures differ significantly from winter temperatures. These gearbox oils have the following indexes:
VAZ 21102 all-season gearbox oil
Winter oils are used exclusively during the winter season. They have the following indices on the packaging:
In addition to the viscosity and composition of gear oils, you should understand the fluid's suitability for operating conditions (APL). There are only seven groups of them. The most common groups remain:
Lubricant functions
The VAZ2110 gearbox consists of parts that constantly interact with each other. As a result, they wear out.
To reduce abrasion of elements, transmission oil is filled in, which performs the following functions:
- a certain temperature level is constantly maintained in the gearbox;
- eliminates the risk of rust formation as a result of metal corrosion;
- noise reduction during operation;
- vibration decreases;
- protection against shock loads is provided;
- There is constant washing of working areas due to the washing out of small particles of metal.
It is important to know what kind of oil is poured into the VAZ 2110 gearbox. Each type has its own degree of viscosity
The operating temperature is maintained at 80-120 degrees. In harsh climates, it is difficult to maintain such a temperature with high oil viscosity. This will make the gears difficult to operate.
If failures are observed at the checkpoint, this occurs for the following reasons:
- the amount of liquid substance in it has decreased;
- low-quality lubricant product.
In the first case, it is necessary to constantly monitor the level, and in the second, follow the passport instructions.
About types of transmission oils
The main task of transmission fluid is to create a thin but durable oil film on the surface of parts and mechanisms, thus protecting them from rapid wear.
Modern industry offers a wide range of different fluids, and the quality of the gearbox depends on the correct choice. At the moment, there are three types of oils: synthetic, semi-synthetic and mineral. Each of these mixtures has its own set of characteristics and properties.
Mineral transmission is the most budget option. This oil has good lubricating properties, but has a significant drawback. In extreme cold conditions it freezes very quickly. This, in turn, creates difficulties when starting the engine in sub-zero temperatures.
Unlike mineral water, synthetics and semi-synthetics have a higher price. In addition, such oils thicken less at low temperatures and are excellent for use in fairly severe frosts. Synthetic and semi-synthetic oils also differ from each other. The consistency of semi-synthetic liquid is thicker than synthetics. It is great for cars with high mileage. Synthetic oil is better used for new gearboxes, as it is thinner and can leak if there are even the smallest defects in the seals.
When choosing products, first of all, you need to pay attention to viscosity. This is exactly what the SAE index indicates. According to SAE standards, transmission fluids are divided into the following categories:
According to SAE standards, transmission fluids are divided into the following categories:
- Summer oil (marking consists of numbers only).
- Winter mixture (in its designation it has the English letter W - winter).
- All-season liquid. The marking of such a lubricant consists of two numbers, which are separated by the letter W. This oil can be used all year round.
Synthetic and semi-synthetic oils that have the following viscosity classes are suitable for the gearbox:
- SAE80W85 is an all-season liquid with a temperature range from -35 °C to +35 °C.
- SAE75W90 is a mixture used at any time of the year with a recommended temperature range from -40 °C to +35 °C.
- SAE75W85 is a multi-season oil, designed for work within the range of -40 °C...+45 °C.
In addition, when choosing transmission fluid, you can come across the API classification. It implies the systematization of lubricants according to their quality, application and performance characteristics. There are 7 groups in total, but only two are the most popular.
So, for the VAZ 2107 gearbox, the manufacturer recommends the following groups of transmission fluids:
- GL-4. This oil is characterized by the presence of a large number of additives. It is used for gearboxes that operate in high gears at low torques and in low gears at high torques.
- GL-5. This fluid was developed for hypoid gears with high axle displacement. This liquid has proven itself when working in harsh conditions. It is recommended for gears that operate at high speeds with low torques and shock loads on gear teeth.
Brand and volume of oil for the VAZ 2107 gearbox The VAZ 2107 gearbox has two modifications - five-speed and four-speed. And depending on this, the volume of liquid poured varies:
- Four-speed gearboxes require 1.35 liters.
- For five-speed gearboxes, 1.6 liters are required.
What mixture should be poured does not depend on the number of stages. It must be a special transmission, selected in accordance with the recommendations of the automaker. That is, the liquid must correspond to the operating conditions of the vehicle.
Some brands of lubricants that can be poured into the VAZ 2107 gearbox:
- Lukoil TM-5 85W90
- TNK Hypoid 80W90
- Spector 80W90
- Shell Spirax S5 75W90 GL4/5
- Novoil Super T 80W90
- Spectrol Forward 80W90
- Agip Rotra MP 80W90/80W95
- Norsi Trans 80W90/85W90
- MP Gear Lube-LS 80W90/80W140 (GL-5)
Of course, these are not all transmission fluids that can be used for the “Seven” gearbox. But these are the most popular among VAZ 2107 owners.
Engine
There are several engine modifications. Based on this information, you can make a choice in one direction or another.
VAZ 2110 engine modifications
- VAZ-21100 - 8 valves, 1.5 liter engine. Produced from 1996 to 2000;
- VAZ-21101 - 8 valves, 1.6 liters, produced since 2004;

What kind of oil should I use and how much?
VAZ 2110 owners often fill in semi-synthetic oils with a viscosity of 10W-40 or 5W-40 (there is no doubt that other viscosities are also poured, but these are the most popular). The only difference is that 5W-40 can be used down to minus 35 degrees and 10W-40 up to minus 30 degrees.
The choice of company is not important; you can take any popular “market brand”.
- Mobil Super 2000 10W40
- Valvoline Maxlife 5w-40
- Total Quartz 10W40
- Shell Helix 10W40
- Eneos SuperGasoline 10W40
- Mobil Ultra 10W40
How to change
We warm up the engine to 45-50 degrees. Warm oil has better fluidity and will drain better from the engine during a complete replacement. Our task is to remove as much as possible the old dirty and used fluid that no longer has useful properties from the engine and fill it with new one. If a lot of old dirty oil remains in the crankcase, it will be swept away with the new one and will worsen its beneficial properties. Warm up the engine for 5-7 minutes before starting, this will be sufficient. For easy access to the drain plug (and in some models the oil filter is also attached from the bottom) and the bottom of the car as a whole, you need to jack it up or drive into an inspection hole (the best option). Also, some models may have engine crankcase “protection” installed.
We open air access to the crankcase by unscrewing the filler cap and dipstick. Place a large container (equal to the amount of oil being poured). Unscrew the drain plug with a wrench. Sometimes the drain plug is made like a regular “bolt” under an open-end wrench, and sometimes it can be unscrewed using a four- or hexagon
Don't forget to wear protective gloves, the oil will most likely wake you up warm, but you need to be careful.
We wait about 10-15 minutes until the waste flows into a basin or cut-off plastic canister.
Optional but very effective! Flushing the engine with a special liquid is not included in the maintenance regulations and is not mandatory - but. By getting a little confused, you will be much better off flushing out the old, black oil from the engine.
In this case, wash with the old oil filter for 5-10 minutes. You will be surprised at the black oil that comes out with this liquid. This liquid is very easy to use. A detailed description should appear on the flushing fluid label. We change the cleaning filter. The seat (the place where the filter is located) needs to be wiped dry with a rag to remove dust and dirt, and only then install a new filter pre-soaked in oil. Lack of oil in the new filter before starting the engine can cause oil starvation, which in turn can cause filter deformation. Overall this is not a good thing. Also remember to lubricate the rubber O-ring before installation.
Fill in new oil. Having made sure that the drain plug is screwed in and a new oil filter is installed, we can begin to fill in new oil using the dipstick as a guide. The level should be between the minimum and maximum marks. Also, you need to remember that after the first start of the engine, some oil will leave and the level will drop. In the future, when the engine is running, the oil level will probably change; be careful during the first few days of operation. Recheck the oil level using the dipstick after the first start.
Problems when paying with bank cards
Sometimes difficulties may arise when paying with Visa/MasterCard bank cards. The most common of them:
- There is a restriction on the card for paying for online purchases
- A plastic card is not intended for making payments online.
- The plastic card is not activated for making payments online.
- There are not enough funds on the plastic card.
In order to solve these problems, you need to call or write to the technical support of the bank where you are served. Bank specialists will help you resolve them and make payments.
That's basically it. The entire process of paying for a book in PDF format on car repair on our website takes 1-2 minutes.
Transmission oil resource
Motul gear oil - service life according to the manufacturer is at least 70,000 km
Depending on the manufacturer and composition of the gear oil, it may have a different service life.
So, how can you determine which oil belongs to which type? Of course, an important indicator is the price, which will be higher for high-quality lubricating fluids. But, as practice shows, this is not an indicator.
The service life of the oil in the gearbox also depends on the condition of the unit itself. This is due to the fact that the production of some elements can be quite high, and metal shavings will fall into the lubricating fluid, settling there forever. Therefore, in each specific case, the oil life in the gearbox will be different, with the same oil filled.
When to change the oil in the transmission of older generation cars
For older generation VAZ-2114 cars, the standard for using transmission oil in the gearbox is 60 thousand km, after which it must be replaced without fail. But it is worth taking into account the opinion of oil manufacturers.
Thus, the Castrol company guarantees that the fluid they produce can serve effectively in a gearbox for up to 100,000 km.
When to change the gearbox oil of new generation cars
For cars of the new generation VAZ-2114 model, or rather those produced since January 1, 2015, the established norm for using transmission oil is 100 km. mileage In this case, if we count by proportion, the Castrol gearbox lubricant should last up to 150,000 km.
Properties of oils
Viscosity of different types of oil
A separate point worth considering is the properties of gearbox oils. This will make it possible to understand the resource of use, as well as the timing of replacement. Of course, a lot depends on the region and operating conditions, but let’s look at the average:
- Chemical properties. As you know, any friction leads to heating, and in a car’s gearbox, the temperature rises during operation. In this case, transmission oil serves as a conductor of heat, which is released. Constant temperature changes significantly affect the chemical composition. So, when using its resource, the oil is no longer able to remove heat effectively enough, and also loses its lubricating properties, which are necessary for the normal functioning of the gearbox. As a result, increased production begins on the internal elements, as well as overheating that occurs, leading to the destruction of metal parts.
- Physical properties. This category includes mechanical waste, or rather metal shavings, which are formed due to the loss of oil’s chemical properties. Since the catalyst can no longer remove all the heat, and the excess metal in the liquid is large, this leads to heating of the oil, which is no longer able to remove it to the body. In this case, there are consequences in the form of breakdowns and wear of parts.
It is worth noting that the loss of properties, as has already become clear, leads to increased wear, so it is worth changing the oil in the gearbox on time, and not wait until the time comes for a major overhaul, which will obviously cost more than in-line maintenance.
Performance properties of TM
The API classification shows a comprehensive assessment of the transmission depending on its performance properties and is divided into six categories. Categories are marked with an index, which makes it possible to understand the scope and level of quality of the product. Today, in passenger car transmissions, only two groups of fluids are used – GL-4 and GL-5 (TM-4, TM-5 according to the domestic classification).
GL-4 (or TM-4) - designed for medium-loaded gears. Used in manual transmissions and mechanisms with spiral bevel gears. The operation of such oils can be carried out in hypoid-type transmissions at significant speeds, but small or moderate torques.
GL-5 (or TM-5) – used for heavily loaded gears. Operation of oil with this standard is carried out in hypoid gears at low torques in combination with high speeds, subject to short-term shock loads. This oil contains a large amount of sulfur-phosphorus containing extreme pressure additive.
Also a very common oil is 75W90 marked GL-4/5; the presence of two indices indicates use under different load conditions and different types of mechanisms.
MIL specification
In addition to API classification, the American MIL specification is often used. For 75W90, this is MIL-L 2105 A, B or C. Confirms compliance with the specifications of multigrade gear oils, equivalent to API GL-4 or GL-5.
ZF transmission oil quality classifier
Also on the canister of 75W-90 oil you can see the Z classifier - this is a classification system for all types of vehicle transmissions. The designation is made by letters and numbers from ZF TE-ML 01 to ZF TE-ML 14.
How to fill oil into a VAZ 2112 box
The procedure for completely changing the substance into the unit on this model occurs in several stages:
- Lifting the car and conducting a routine inspection of the crankcase for fogging or mechanical damage.
- Then you need to remove the metal crankcase protection and unscrew the special drain bolt, which is located at the bottom of the crankcase. Draining is carried out into a special container for 40-50 minutes.
- After this, it is necessary to replace the oil filter, which is also located at the bottom of the system.
- Pour new material through the drain hole at the top of the box using a simple funnel. Check the operation of the unit by alternately switching all modes of the gear selector while standing still.
How is replacement carried out - stages
In addition to the video demonstrating the process of changing the lubricant in the VAZ 2115 gearbox, we will provide a description of the sequence of actions.
Canister for draining fluid Drain plug for VAZ 2115 gearbox oil Replacing VAZ 2115 gearbox fluid
- Using a knife, we cut off the side of the canister or bottle, making a kind of “bath”.
- Before starting work, be sure to warm up the gearbox by driving a VAZ 2115 for about 10 km with a warm engine. In this case, the gears will be able to distribute the lubricant throughout the gearbox.
- We lift the right side of the car with a jack, lay down a block or stand and lower the car. Under no circumstances should you work under a vehicle that is simply supported by a jack.
- In case of a cold floor, we place a plywood sheet under the VAZ 2115.
- Wearing gloves and grabbing a canister and a 17mm wrench, we lay down under the car. If there is a crankcase protection, there may be a cut in it under the oil plug. The plug itself is located at the bottom of the left flange of the gearbox.
- If there is no cut, the engine protection must be removed. To do this, clean the plug with a brush and wipe the adjacent area with a rag, then use a 17 mm wrench to unscrew the plug, placing a canister underneath into which warm liquid will flow.
- After waiting 10-15 minutes for the lubricant to completely come out, we install the plug in place.
- Using a knife, cut off the bottom of a one and a half liter plastic bottle.
- We dismantle the intake pipe and air filter by removing the terminal from the mass air flow sensor. Then we twist the clamps at the crankcase pipe and throttle body to completely remove the intake assembly.
- We take out the oil dipstick in the gearbox, located in the upper part, not far from the passenger compartment.
- The neck of the bottle without a bottom is placed against the hole under the cork, as a result of which the bottle acts as a funnel - no more than three liters of oil should be poured into it, after which we check for lubricant leaks from the cork within ten minutes.
- If liquid does not drip from the plug, if necessary, replace the engine protection and remove the VAZ 2115 from the stand.
- Using the dipstick, we continue to pour oil into the gearbox to the maximum mark - in total, the gearbox should hold 3.2 liters of oil.
- In the reverse order described above, we return the filter and inlet pipe to their place.
At first, it is recommended to fill in no more than 2 liters of oil. Then you should check for leaks in the drain plug under the car. To do this, wait about ten minutes, and then continue to pour the lubricant.
What is the volume of the VAZ 2110 box?
In the proposed material we will determine exactly how much oil to pour into the VAZ box. The meticulousness of the question is justified, since the normal operation of the vehicle is at stake. Young drivers will learn how many liters of lubricant should be purchased for one-time filling into the gearbox crankcase.
The modifications of this car with different power units produced by the auto company are equipped with the same type of variable speed gearboxes with minimal technical correction. The designers are one hundred percent right here. Why reinvent another wheel when launching an updated old model into series. The unification of the transmission unit is justified from an economic point of view.
The unified unit initially requires an exact volume of oil in the box. So, how much oil is in the box of the popular VAZ 2110? It’s 3.5 liters.
The lubricant is enough for a car to run 60 thousand kilometers. After which you should change the lubricant. It is necessary that the crankcase contains exactly this amount of lubricating consistency.
That is 3.5 liters.
More is possible, but the reserve is detrimental to the car. Increased volume:
- quickly destroys numerous oil seals;
- negatively affects engine power;
- increases fuel consumption.
The negative will definitely appear if you add even 200 grams above the norm.
How much to fill
The VAZ-2112 gearbox, like the transmission of any other car, requires a certain amount of oil. So, for our car we should fill in 3.3-3.5 liters of lubricant
It is important to keep in mind that such a volume can be poured after the procedure for cleaning the gearbox from residual old oil and other deposits has been carried out. Flushing can be done as follows:
- You need to drain as much old oil as possible
- Pour in a special flushing agent
- Turn on the engine and flush the entire transmission system
- Turn off the engine, drain the flush
- Now you can introduce the oil in full.
- The final stage is checking the oil level using a dipstick.
How to choose oil
For a VAZ 2112, what oil to fill in the gearbox is the most pressing question that is asked more often than how to fill and where to fill the oil. To extend the service life of the gearbox, it is recommended to use only high-quality oil purchased from a company store and recommended exclusively for your gearbox:
- Some enthusiasts are sure that it is possible to pour motor oil into the gearbox instead of transmission oil; in fact, for the VAZ 2112, what kind of oil is poured into the box matters
- This is a big mistake, in Soviet times of shortages, it was difficult to find transmission oil on the open market for Soviet cars
- But motor cars were easier to find on sale, and drivers began to use them at checkpoints.
- Now, with a huge selection of transmissions, it is recommended to use exclusively transmissions, and those recommended by the manufacturer individually for each model
- Our considered model of VAZ 2112
- And for the VAZ 2112 it is prescribed to use transmission oil in the box, this will allow you to extend the service life and avoid additional problems with the gearbox
- However, the main criterion when changing the oil in a gearbox is the condition of the lubricant; if a poor quality one is used, it is better to perform the next change earlier, before irreparable consequences arise for gearbox parts
- A transmission running on such oil may crunch or click when gears are engaged, and subsequently such operation leads to breakage of transmission parts
- The question for the VAZ 2112, which oil to pour into the box, remains relevant
- Here you should listen to the recommendations of the car manufacturer; according to his recommendation, GL-4 oil, according to the international API classification, is ideal
- For example, shell 75W90 meets this standard; it is on the list of acceptable ones by the manufacturer, which means it is suitable for the VAZ2112
Checking the oil level and condition
You can check the transmission oil level in a VAZ-2112 manual transmission using a dipstick, which has the appropriate marks for this - Max and Min. The amount of liquid should be between these marks. Any deviation from the norm may require adding or draining the fluid. For example, if the oil is below the Min level, then topping up will be required, or vice versa.
With high mileage, the oil will most likely need to be changed. It is logical that for this you first need to make sure that it is in poor condition.
To do this, we pay attention to three main signs:
- The oil changed color from light to dark
- The oil emits an unpleasant specific odor, smells burnt
The oil contains a strange residue - it could be dirt deposits. Having confirmed that the oil needs to be replaced, we proceed to choosing the appropriate product.
About oil change
As a rule, when purchasing a used VAZ-2112, you can find a special manual in the cabin that helps most motorists when making certain repairs.
This also applies to all the main parameters of the liquid poured into a particular system unit. However, if there is no such instruction, then our article will be just the thing to help. Read below about how much oil needs to be poured into the VAZ-2112 engine.
Oil volume in VAZ-2112 according to the passport
Since the days of the old VAZ-2108 and their models of carburetor and injection engines, nothing has seriously changed, and, therefore, the volume of oil poured remains the same
Even if you pay attention to the fact that there is a significant difference in the cylinder head, which on a two-wheeler is most often sixteen-valve (one of the modifications of the 21124 engine - approx.), but the cylinder block is still the same, therefore, the pan is completely identical to the tank 3.5 liters
It’s easy to change the oil on a VAZ-2112 yourself.
An interesting fact is that the volume of 3.5 liters refers to the total component, counting the 300 ml that is poured into the oil filter.
Amount of oil to be filled
The question often arises: how much oil to pour into the box of a VAZ 2110. The total volume is 3.3 liters. However, 3.5 liters of oil are poured into the box. This is due to the fact that the unit is five-speed. At an increased level, the gears of the last gear are better washed.
It is not recommended to do additional overflow. This is due to the fact that excess oil will penetrate through the seals of the drive wheels, and at the same time squeezing them out. If an overflow has already occurred, you should use a medical syringe with a long tube to pump out the excess amount through the control hole.
To check the level you need to perform a few simple steps:
- The transmission dipstick is located near the thermostat and starter. He gets out.
- Wipe well with a dry cloth.
- It is set to its original position and one and a half dozen seconds are counted.
- It is pulled out again and checked. The liquid level should be at the max mark. A slight excess is allowed.
- The dipstick finally returns to its place.
If the test is carried out in the absence of a dipstick, then in order to understand how much oil needs to be added to the VAZ 2110 box, the car needs to be driven into an inspection hole or overpass. If this is not possible, then using a lift is allowed.
Further actions are as follows:
- Using a 17 key, unscrew the control plug.
- If the amount is normal, a drop appears from the hole. The oil level is exactly at the bottom of the hole.
- The plug is installed in place.
If you need to top up, you must remember what kind of oil was poured into the VAZ 2110 gearbox. Using a different brand is prohibited. The same viscosity must be maintained. Topping up is carried out using a syringe or funnel until the oil begins to pour out.
