There are quite a few fairly common types of non-factory firmware. The most popular firmware codes are “SPORT” and “ECONOMY”.

“SPORT” is suitable for dynamic, high-speed driving. The settings for this chip tuning option are aimed at increasing engine power and throttle response, increasing acceleration characteristics and maximum speed. Of course, you have to pay for a faster car – first of all, increased fuel consumption. A VAZ-21099 “chipped” in this way consumes at least two liters of gasoline more than with standard settings.

If the driver is accustomed to a calm, measured and smooth ride, and the issue of fuel consumption worries him more than speed characteristics, chip tuning of the Economy version is suitable. Its implementation will reduce fuel consumption by 5-10 percent. True, only in the case of a truly calm driving style.

Transmission. Tricks and Tricks

Do not forget that changing the shafts will not stop there. It will also be necessary to change the secondary shaft and driven gear of the box.

Exhaust system. Not just for sound

The modernization of the exhaust system is not carried out to give the car a “sporty”, growling sound. Annoying vibrations, which often occur after illiterate tuning attempts, are the responsibility of the exhaust system. However, it is easy to deal with them by installing a special bellows metal expansion joint. With some experience, this work can be done independently, but you will need a grinder and a welding machine. Those who do not have such equipment or do not know how to operate it can use high-temperature sealant.

True, in this case it will be much more difficult to achieve the required connection quality.

If you wish, you can completely replace the exhaust system by installing a more expensive and modern version that provides a “sports” sound with a complete absence of vibrations transmitted to the body. True, it will be more difficult to carry out this work, and much more money will have to be spent.

Exhaust system

It's also worth working on the exhaust system, but your goal shouldn't be to achieve a growling, sporty sound. The exhaust system is responsible for vibrations that may occur after the next artisanal tuning. The situation can be corrected using a metal bellows compensator.
