Rob Huff won the final WTCC race in a Lada Granta
The driver of the Russian Lada Sport WTCC team, Rob Huff, was the first to reach the finish line in Macau at the final stage of the World Touring Car Championship, which took place on November 16.
This victory was the second major success for the Lada team in the 2014 season (Huff also led Lada to the podium in Beijing, and the Englishman also took second place at the round in Argentina). This victory was a worthy end to the 2014 season for Lada Sport WTCC.
In the final in Macau, Rob Huff in a Lada Granta showed the best lap time - 2 minutes 27 seconds. In the second race of the stage, two Ladas were in the top 10: Rob Huff in first place, James Thompson in ninth.
Before the final stage, Rob Huff did not hide his optimism and fighting spirit - Lada Granta was consistently in the top 10 in all sessions of the racing weekend (free practice and qualifying).

2012 WTCC champion Rob Huff has won Macau seven times throughout his career.
Another Lada Sport driver, James Thompson, eventually finished ninth in Macau, 8.252 seconds back.
The Lada Sport team has been participating in the WTCC since 2009. At first it competed as a factory team using Lada 110 and Lada Priora cars. After a two-year break, the team returned to World Touring in 2012, conducting two test races with the new Lada Granta WTCC model in preparation for full participation in the 2013 season. In 2013–2014, the drivers were 2012 WTCC champion Rob Huff, a two-time British Touring Touring champion James Thompson and the champion of the Russian Touring Championship in the Touring Light class, Mikhail Kozlovsky. Racers compete in specially prepared Lada Granta TC1 cars. The team's best result in 2014 was Rob Huff's first place at stage nine in China. From 2015, the WTCC will compete as a joint team of Lada Sport ROSNEFT.
WTCC (World Touring Car Championship) – World Touring Car Championship – has been held since 2005. Cars of six brands participate in the competition: Lada, Honda, Citroen, Chevrolet, BMW, Seat. Modifications[ | ]
The wheels on the Grant are replaced on the fly with two spare ones from the trunk.
The car is equipped with three types of engines, depending on the version (equipment) of the car:
- “Standard” version: 1.6 liter 8-valve power - 82 hp. s., 132 Nm;
- “Norma” version: 1.6 liter 8-valve with a lightweight connecting rod and piston group with a capacity of 87 hp. s., 140 Nm;
- “Norma +” version with automatic transmission: 1.6 liter 16-valve with a lightweight connecting rod and piston group with a capacity of 98 hp. s., 145 Nm.
- “Lux” version: 1.6 liter 16-valve with a lightweight connecting rod and piston group with a capacity of 98 hp. s., 145 Nm.
- “Lux” version: 1.6 liter 16-valve with a lightweight connecting rod and piston group and a modified intake manifold with a capacity of 106 hp. s., 148 Nm.
- "Sport" version: 1.6 liter 16-valve with a lightweight connecting rod and piston group and a modified gas distribution system with a capacity of 118 hp. s., 154 Nm.
The five-speed manual transmission is almost the same as that of the Kalina. In the fall of 2012, they began installing a modernized gearbox with the VAZ-2181 index on the car[49]. It has a new gear selection mechanism, cable drive, double-cone synchronizer for first and second gears, and a reduced filling capacity. All this made it possible to reduce the backlash and stroke of the lever, and reduce the force on the lever. The new gearbox is installed on the VAZ-21901 modification with a 1.6 liter (90 hp) engine. The gear shift pattern is the same as on classic Zhiguli cars. The LADA Granta Sport gearbox is distinguished by its final drive ratio (4.3).

- LADA Kalina
Production of the updated LADA Granta began on August 14, 2018[16]. The premiere took place on August 29, 2022 at the Moscow International Motor Show. The model platform remained the same, and the number of changes is typical for restyling, so a number of leading Russian automobile publications call the model update a restyling, and not a new generation [17][18][19][20][21]. Therefore, after the restyling, the family received the unofficial name LADA Granta FL (short for the word Facelift)[22][23][24][25][26][27]. The VAZ plant itself calls the updated family “New LADA Granta”[28]. Sales of the new product began on September 1, 2022[29], and sales of Lada Granta commercial vehicles started on December 25[30][31]. On February 8, 2022, AvtoVAZ presented an educational version of the Lada Granta, designed specifically for driving schools[32].
The updated LADA Granta family, in addition to cars with sedan and liftback bodies, includes a hatchback and station wagon, which are updated LADA Kalina (the Kalina brand has ceased to exist)[33].
In 2022, several new modifications appeared:
- The all-terrain version of Cross
is a redesigned Kalina Cross. Available in three trim levels: Classic, Comfort, Luxe. - Drive Active
is a sedan based on the Comfort package, differs from a regular sedan of this package in improved handling due to the fine-tuning of the chassis by the LADA Sport department using different springs, front suspension struts and shock absorbers, the ground clearance was lowered by 18 mm, there are a number of internal changes: seats with reinforced lateral support and red inserts, leather steering wheel, red stitching on the gearbox cover and steering wheel braid, carbon fiber-look inserts on the dashboard; as well as external styling elements - an aerodynamic body kit: a spoiler on the trunk lid, “sporty” bumpers with red stripes, door sills, in addition, the car features a chrome-plated exhaust pipe from Vesta Sport, wheels with a special pattern, and more[34].
In 2022, several new modifications also appeared:
- #CLUB
with improved equipment and a number of small changes in styling[35]. - The Cross Quest
is distinguished from the Cross version by a roof painted in “Panther” color (black), roof rails and wheel rims are coated in the same color. New seat upholstery made of special dirt- and water-repellent fabric. The seats are embroidered with the Quest series logo, and a similar inscription is on the body. The standard equipment of the Granta Cross Quest includes a rubber trunk mat and two luggage nets: one secures the cargo horizontally, and the second is made in the form of a pocket on the back of the rear seat. This version is also equipped with options such as parking sensors and a heated windshield.[36]
Changes[ | ]
- Updated design of the front part of the car in the signature X-shaped style of the LADA brand. Cars of the LADA Granta FL family received a new front bumper with chrome X-shaped inserts, a radiator grille, headlights, the shape of the front fenders and hood was changed[37].
- The shape of the trunk lid on the sedan has been changed, and the registration plate has been moved to it.
- The rear bumpers have been changed and are now painted in body color on all trim levels.
- An electromechanical drive for the trunk lid lock and a button for unlocking are installed.
- An updated front panel from LADA Kalina 2 with rectangular central deflectors was installed.
- An updated instrument cluster has been installed with a different on-board computer display, radial digitization of the tachometer and speedometer.
- The engines are equipped with “stick-free” pistons with grooves to avoid collision of valves with pistons in the event of a timing belt break.
- The final drive gear ratio has been changed: 3.940 instead of the previous 3.710[38].
- The AMT robotic gearbox has been updated: gear shift time has been reduced, creeping and sport modes have been added.
- The shape of the door handles in the car interior has been changed. On the pre-restyling version they were in the form of straight lines with a rounding on one side and a notch on the other, and on the restyling version they are in the form of circles with the lower parts cut off and with a hole inside the same contour shape.
- In 2022, the head optics were updated. The reliability of the reflector has been increased and its wear has been reduced. We also removed the pushers from the lamp seat area and optimized photometry.[39]
- According to the publication “Behind the Wheel”, the new generation will receive the CMF-B-LS platform, which is a “budget modification” of the Renault CMF-B platform[40]. The car will be unified with the third generation Renault Logan, which was presented at the end of 2022. At the same time, the market division of Granta and Logan is planned to be carried out through body types and installed engines. So, Granta is not planning a hatchback, and Granta will not be equipped with the TCe series engine installed on Logan. According to the publication, AvtoVAZ should switch to mass production of the new generation Granta in 2023[40]. At the same time, Rossiyskaya Gazeta gives other dates - the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2022[41]. At the same time, AvtoVAZ must finally switch to the French platform. According to Kolesa.ru, after this domestic engineering will remain only in Vesta and models on its platform, which will be produced exclusively in Izhevsk[42].
