I had never driven a car with AMT before, this time had come and I needed to learn something new. Besides, there is no way out, since this is now my Lada X-ray, with which I will have to cooperate for at least 10 years.
I would like to say right away that the power gap on an automatic with one clutch is guaranteed, and nothing can be done about it. I accepted this fact and gradually began to get used to it. Initially, the Lada xRay manufacturer promised 26 algorithms for working with AMT.
Advantages and disadvantages of Xray
The time has come to talk about all the advantages and disadvantages of the Lada that I noticed.
When I was changing more powerful light bulbs on the car, I drove into the dark to check how they would shine. I turned off the car and left the lights on. While I was watching, five minutes passed and suddenly... the light went off. In a panic, I think - the lamps have burned out, or the battery is dead, but no, I started it - everything is fine. It turns out that if you arrive and forget to turn off the lights, they turn off on their own five minutes after you turn off the engine! It's comfortable.
A few words about the car interior
The seats are not luxury, of course, but they are comfortable to sit in, oddly enough, and there is an adjustment - you can adjust them to suit you, but only back and forth, raise them higher so that you can’t see the front. Seat with leather inserts.
What’s bad is that there is no noticeable lateral support, no lumbar support adjustment, the back is curved back. Although this is all corrected with special covers. I was very happy when I found out that there are heated seats. But then I encountered a pitfall - the heating of the xray chair will not work until it feels the weight of your body, that is, until you plop down on the seat.
You'll have to sit on ice and no one will care that it's freezing outside and you're freezing. But after about three minutes you feel a pleasant warmth under your heel, your back is also warming up. Cool stuff. It heats up to a certain point, turns off, and when the temperature drops, it turns on again. That is, it maintains heat all the time. The heating button, however, is located in such a way that without half a liter for the first time, you can’t find it by touch - on the left, between the seat and the door.

It would be better if they did it on the instrument panel. But if you get used to it, your finger will intuitively fall on it.
What is inconvenient is that the steering wheel is not adjustable for reach, only up and down. On a good road, the steering is obedient and straight at speed; it doesn’t drag the car along the highway. Once the surface deteriorates a little, you constantly have to adjust the trajectory on a straight line; in turns, it forces you to work - the steering wheel is too heavy, and after turning to zero it returns with a delay, as if it had fallen asleep.
The vibration of the steering wheel caused by unevenness under lateral loads confuses me.
About the positive aspects of Xray:
- The ground clearance was very pleasing with its optimal height;
- Thanks to the electric power steering, the steering wheel turns very easily and simply;
- Automatic door locking is a great feature, especially for those who carry small children in the car;
- Automatic X-ray light sensors help you not to be distracted from the road while driving. Just sat down and drove off, and let the light adjustment fall on the “shoulders” of the sensors;
- I was pleased with the automatic start of the rear wipers, which start working as soon as the car moves in reverse;
- I was pleased with the rear view camera, because I had never encountered such a miracle before. In principle, I like the entire X-ray multimedia system;
- I have dreamed of a drawer under the seat all my life. Now I store all my car junk there;
- Special thanks to the spacious and level trunk, which more than doubles in size when the rear seat is folded.

In the salon I immediately “changed my shoes” (I took the cheapest studded ones that were available - Sava eskimo). Italian Pirellis were installed from the factory. In one of the interviews I read that it is they that allow the Xray to achieve maximum sound comfort (indeed, on the rubber itself in one of the four icons there is a crossed out musical note). It is interesting that the manual states: the pressure in the front should be 2.2, but in the rear - 2.0 (my Kalinka had 2.0 on all 4).

The engine is by no means weak, I’m just not used to the car after the Kalinka on my first trip. I read in editorial reviews from test drives of pre-production samples that it requires more “filigree” work with the gas pedal. I, as one friend wrote, have a rather slapdash driving style: I don’t save gas in order to have a reserve of power, I maneuver in the traffic in third gear. Plus, my Kalinka somehow reacted differently to my right foot. Here (maybe it seemed, maybe not, it’s too early to draw conclusions, we still need to drive) a couple of times there was a feeling that she didn’t want to accelerate in first gear. I had to turn on the second one faster. Once again, this is all preliminary, I haven’t had time to get a clear feeling... We need to get used to the car, break in the “horse”
The rear passengers never bothered me, because we move together. According to first impressions, there is as much space as in Kalinka. Maybe a little more, because it seemed to both me and my beloved that there was more space in front. This means that the rear ones should also have a little more space.
There are felt lockers on the rear wheel arches. Better noise reduction. According to reviews from other forums, in most cases nothing happens to them. Few people complain about the gap.
The impressions from the suspension are only the most pleasant. It goes smoother, absorbs bumps better, and is more comfortable for the butt. Again, I can compare it with my previous Kalinka. That one is also great (the suspension, as they say, is indestructible!), but the sensations from impacts are more distinct. So the difference is felt immediately.
We drove to a neighboring town - 500 km along the highway. I got to know the machine better. My beloved noticed that our Kalinka was more hooligan, but, probably, the problem is simply in different electronic settings (on the Xray you have to press the gas pedal harder). Well, I’m still cautious with the new car (after all, the break-in period is the first 2 thousand km, no more than 110 km/h and no more than 3500 rpm). About overtaking. As I did on the Kalinka: you turn on 3 or 4, the tachometer goes up to 4-5, it takes off, a few seconds and already 120 km/h How it happened on the Iskra: out of habit, before overtaking, you switch down to third, the gear indicator looms with an upward arrow, the car is unhappy hums, the tachometer exceeds the prohibited break-in limits, and slowly picks up speed. Okay, to hell with you, since the arrow on the prompt is up: in fifth gear (!), you press the pedal, and a second later you fly, the revolutions do not even exceed 3.5. I was terribly surprised, but Kalinovsky stereotypes will have to be broken. In general, the prompter, as soon as the tachometer has reached 2.5 thousand revolutions, recommends engaging the next gear. On Kalinka I rarely switched before 3 thousand rpm, because... a power reserve was needed. Here this is not necessary, you can accelerate from both 4 and 5. The only thing that has been lost so far is because this is a quick start from a traffic light (but as soon as the running-in period is over, I raised the speed and drove away, as we did with the Kalinka, before any “inos”). Finally, on the highway, I realized what was wrong with the rear-view mirror: the mirror turned out to have 2 modes - day and night. He lowered it down and caught the transparent glass in the mirror - day. I lifted it up and caught the darkened glass in the mirror - it was night (it was super convenient to move around at night!).

After several days of cursing at the navigator, who stubbornly suggested entering addresses in Latin, we switched to the Cyrillic alphabet at random (we had to select the default line). In general, the manual was compiled with errors and was not verified (probably they were in a hurry). How do you like this pearl on page 84: “This function eliminates and prevents icing. frosting and fogging of the rear window, exterior mirrors, and windshield (if the car is equipped with such glass).” We laughed. I understand perfectly well that with the transition to something new (a new car or a new operating system), what will have to be abandoned. What personally inconveniences me so far: the front pillar limits the view more than on the Kalinka; The on-board computer on the Kalinka is definitely more convenient and informative - I had the outside temperature, total mileage, current mileage, and time displayed on the display. Plus, I periodically looked at the coolant voltage. And when the temperature rose, I tried to turn on the heater, or drive extra kilometers along the highway to recharge the battery. This number will not work on Xray, because there is nowhere to look, there is no data. Maybe they are not needed... Otherwise, I am very (very, very) pleased: the climate control works amazingly (I set it to 22 degrees, turned on the car and forgot), I connected the phone via bluetooth and threw the headset out of my ear, for some it was cramped in the seats, in the pedal assembly - not at all for me (height 170 cm). Some people are annoyed by the XRAY inscriptions; on the contrary, I like these labels (both under the display and on the sills).”

2. There is a lot of negativity about the space for rear passengers, I will say this - no less than in Renault Stepway. Taking into account the driver's height of 172 cm, the same passenger can easily be placed behind him.
3. Suspension. Just the other day we tested the Skoda Yeti 2015 - I won’t say for sure, but at first glance the Lada XRAY worked identically.
4. The noise insulation here, I’ll say, is definitely better than that of the Stepway (street sounds, taking into account the mechanics and the 1.6 engine. How the 1.8 will perform at work is a question).
5. Review. The rear-view mirrors, surprisingly, considering their size, turned out to be very informative. The dimensions of the car feel luxurious (of course, it’s difficult to say here, as I said above, I’m 172 cm tall, maybe yours will be different).
6. Price: yes, it bites, but given the situation on the market now, it is quite adequate. Yes, for 721,500 you can get a Stepway, but the equipment is much poorer, and the engine is even weaker - by 102 hp. Yes, we are not used to paying that kind of money for our auto industry, but these are not the same “Tazs” that were before. And by the way, our “Tazs” are in great demand overseas because... they are not whimsical and can withstand good loads, and can also be repaired, as they say, “on your knees.” And before you judge, I advise you to go for a test drive (they don’t charge money for it).”
Disadvantages of the car
- The seat belts do not pull back; you have to push them in manually;
- Controlling the multimedia system from the steering wheel is good, but why can’t you switch tracks from it?;
- Lack of automatic raising and lowering of windows;
- Low information content of the on-board computer;
- Soundproofing of the frames could be better.
As for me, the Lada X-ray is an excellent car that fully justifies its price.
