Carburetor engine

The VAZ 2110 began production in the mid-90s, or to be more precise, it went into production in 1996. At that time, there were practically no fuel-injected cars in the country, so for the first time a dozen rolled off the assembly line with a carburetor engine.

• The third version of the “one hundred and sixth” had even fewer differences in appearance from the regular VAZ-2110. Technically, the car was close to the second iteration: C20SEL engine, rear drum brakes, ZF power steering, but the shock absorbers were Acomi. In addition to AVTOVAZ and Mega-Lada, the history of the “shark” was also related to. As usual, the company managed to stay afloat at the cost of several bankruptcies, changing names (“Lada-Tul”, then “Motorika”) and subsequent entry into the . In fact, the VAZ-21106 was produced until 2004, but there are also cars of a later production - apparently produced by AVTOVAZ or Motorika on a piece order from “special” clients. Some of the four-door One Hundred and Sixths were supplied to the traffic police, but their service life was relatively short due to the complexities of the car’s design. Test pilots and ordinary owners noted not only improved dynamic performance, as well as handling and stability, but also higher passive safety of the car. This was achieved both by a noticeably stiffer body (12,200 Nm/degree versus 8,000 Nm/degree) and by the use of a subframe that “knotted” the front side members and the engine shield into a solid structure. A few words about wheels. The Yellow Shark had forged wheels made by . But the factory installed D16 forging on small-scale “one hundred and sixth” cars. Since the wheel manufacturer itself underwent a rebranding - a change of name to SMK (Stupino Metallurgical Plant), the wheels received a new index D18, but they were no longer installed on the “one hundred and sixth”. But the prototype with a coupe body had original production wheels. The unusual modification of the “ten” had its own unique variation – a model with a two-door coupe body! For the first two copies, the wings were made of metal so that rough matrices could be removed from them for the subsequent production of such parts from fiberglass. The “one hundred and sixth” had two modifications for professional sports - 21107 prepared for rally with a welded safety cage and 21106 WTCC, in which the Russian Bears team took part in the 2008 FIA WTCC international championship. However, the door to the world of professional sports was opened for the car from the very beginning: from 1999 to 2006, the “one hundred and sixth” took part in the Russian circuit racing championship and in the Russian circuit racing series RTCC. Thus, the initial idea regarding the racing career of the “106th” was realized only towards the end of the assembly line life of the “source” of the tenth model.

Reliability

In practice, the “one hundred and sixth” gives its owner more trouble than the usual “ten” due to its small-scale production. After all, this car has its own heating system of an original design, “its own” wiring with an “oblique”, which is not unified with either Opels or VAZs. That is why it does not lend itself to computer diagnostics using standard methods. And some other unique parts (in particular, wheel drives, clutch cable) cause difficulties when operating the “one hundred and sixth”.

Another interesting and important point is that most of the bodies were made in 1998 and then the cars themselves were assembled as orders were received. Therefore, if the car is not a “shifter”, do not be surprised that a 2002-2003 vehicle may have 1998 glass. This is fine.

By the way, despite popular belief, the car’s suspension is never “Opel”, but of an original design - with a subframe and wishbones. In order to implement this direction, it was decided to create specialized structural entities operating under the auspices of OJSC AVTOVAZ. One of such structural formations is the production one, organized on January 24, 1997 in Tolyatti, and working in close cooperation with the automobile plant. In connection with this, in 1997, the development of several new cars began:


LADA 21106 - The body of the VAZ-21106 differs from the VAZ-2110 in its rear and front fenders with extended wheel arches. The Opel C 2.0 XE 16V engine with a power of 150 hp is installed.
