History of the model

The history of this model began in 2004, when VAZ designers began developing the car. which could take a place between the C and D classes. The length of the car according to the project must be at least 4.5 meters.

In 2005, a concept car appeared that surprised the public with its elegant appearance and “filling” characteristics. In 2007, the Siluet became the first car that was actually developed by designers, and not copied from other foreign cars, as was the case before.

After modifications, Siluet has changed, but still has not lost the attractiveness that surprised the public.

In addition to improving the design of the Silhouette, the technical components of the car were also modernized. The designers decided to equip the car with a 1.8 liter (112 hp) power unit with gasoline consumption per hundred - 7 liters.

Now these parameters will not surprise anyone, but at the beginning of the new millennium they were very worthy, because then the Priora was considered a modern and new model, but the Siluet surpassed the Priora in technical equipment and body dimensions.

The front-wheel drive model could really compete with Asian and European foreign cars at that time.

Features of the Lada C project and the reasons for its closure

The Lada S project was a joint venture from Canada, whose task was to create cars belonging to the C class.

Its implementation in Russia took place from 2004 to 2009. According to the plan of its developers, 10 models of Lada cars were to be jointly created using the facilities. It was planned to launch all planned models into production in 2009. The result of the work was to be the creation of a joint venture, the head of which was planned to appoint the vice-president of Russian Technologies, Maxim Nagaitsev.

The signing of a framework agreement between the companies on joint work and the creation of parts for the production of a class C machine took place on December 22, 2006.

In 2009, it was decided to freeze cooperation with the Canadian company due to the start of joint work with the alliance of the French and Japanese companies Renault-Nissan. The French automaker became the owner of a 25% stake, and the alliance provided class B platforms, the installation of which was carried out on the first line of the main AvtoVAZ conveyor. Sergei Chemezov, who holds the post of director, said that all the developments that were created jointly with Magna will continue to be used in the process of creating new machine models.

Starting in 2009, the project had to be suspended due to serious financial difficulties. The existing developments were applied in the development and creation of the Lada Vesta model.

Production of cars. As part of this failed project, the following car models were to be produced.

LADA C Concept . It is a sports-style hatchback concept car, which is one of the joint developments of the two companies within the framework of this project. An experimental sample of the model was presented as part of the automobile exhibition in Geneva. At the company's stand, the technical parameters of the machine were indicated: length - 4208 mm, width - 1835 mm, height - 1548 mm, engine capacity - 2.0 liters, maximum speed - 210 km/h. The planned price for the car was supposed to be 450 thousand rubles.

Lada C-Cross. The presentation of this car took place at the Moscow Motor Show in 2008. Its feature is a combination of a car for driving in urban conditions and for off-road driving. With its comfort and dynamics, it was the best option for city roads. At the same time, it had excellent potential for off-road driving, thanks to its short overhang, high ground clearance and 18-inch wheels, which makes it possible to provide an excellent level of geometric cross-country ability. Another positive point was the trunk, with a volume of 350 liters.

Lada Silhouette. The concept car of this car with front-wheel drive was first shown in Moscow in 2004. Especially for this project, a new all-wheel drive system and a two-liter engine were developed. In the future, it was planned to release a new version with a diesel engine as a power plant and an automatic transmission. According to representatives of the manufacturer, this larger car for the whole family will have an interesting appearance and interior design, a high degree of comfort, neat assembly and an increased level of safety.

Bottom line. The complete abandonment of this project and its closure took place after the French company Renault became a co-owner.

Technical parameters of VAZ 2116 (Siluet):

Also in the future, the developers planned to install a diesel unit with a turbine.

In addition to the VAZ-2116 sedan, prototypes were created with the following bodies:

  • station wagon VAZ-2117;

  • hatchback VAZ-2118.

Exterior, interior and additional features

The design of the Silhouette is interesting even for our time - wide headlights and a neat bumper, as well as expressive and relief lines.

Thanks to the smooth lines and teardrop shape of the front of the car, the Siluet's aerodynamic drag coefficient (Cx) is 0.33.

The exterior of the car presented in 2007 featured the following innovations:
