Lada Vesta is a compact passenger car produced by the Volzhsky Automobile Plant since September 2015. This model is one of the best-selling cars in Russia; buyers are attracted primarily by its low cost, relative simplicity of design, inexpensive maintenance, availability of spare parts, and attractive design.

The minimum configuration of Grants Sport - Drive Active will cost you 454,400 rubles. For this price you will get a car equipped with 2 front airbags, daytime running lights, an immobilizer and a combined ABS+BAS system. The interior will feature headrests on the rear row seats, a 12-volt power outlet, a heated front seat system, air conditioning and a 4-speaker multifunction audio system. The steering is complemented by an electric booster, and the column is vertically adjustable. The front doors have electric windows. The on-board computer is equipped with a gear shift guidance system. There is a heated windshield and electrically heated rear-view mirrors.

The maximum configuration, in addition to the functionality listed in the database, has a standard alarm system and fog lights. The brakes here are of a larger size (due to the fact that the configurations are supplied with 15″ and 16″ inch wheels, respectively). In addition to the main socket, this equipment also provides an additional one - in the luggage compartment. This will probably not be enough for some and modifications and tuning of the Lada Granta Sport will flourish wildly. Surely manufacturers of large spoilers and crazy body kits are already riveting crafts in their garages. And motorists are thinking about how to adapt the turbine to the standard Lada Granta Sport 1.6 engine in order to surprise with its agility at traffic lights.

Will there be a completely new Lada Granta Sport in 2022?

It seems to be the same car, but somehow more massive and pumped up.

Indeed, AvtoVAZ was supposed to put the car on the assembly line at the end of 2022, but due to internal contradictions this did not happen. Nevertheless, the plan for Granta Sport to hit dealer shelves is more or less known. Here he is.

Granta Sport in the Drive Active configuration should appear on the assembly line in Togliatti (at a subsidiary of VAZ Lada Sport) from June 1, 2022. The circulation will initially be limited. This configuration will be released in a circulation of 1,600 copies, and the standard Sport version in a quantity of 1,400 copies. The result of work on a domestic car was the Lada Granta Sport, in this case the prefix “Sport” means a sports version. Engine

The civilian version of the Lada Granta Sport is essentially fundamentally different from the sensational sports car. The main advantages of the production model lie in its engine compartment: the consumer is offered a car under the hood of which there is a forced 1.6-liter engine, from which it will be possible to squeeze out 114 “horses” at a speed of 6000 and with a torque of 150 Nm. The 16-valve gas distribution system was inherited from the 21126 power unit, on the basis of which the engine was built.

Even at the stage of technical design of the sports version of the car for the people, the manufacturer tried to adapt it for spare parts for serial and mass production. Therefore, the cylinder block and cylinder head have not undergone any changes. The unit is installed vertically; a feature here can be considered the unusual design of the intake and exhaust gas distribution systems, as well as the liquid cooling unit. The sport version also differs from the regular grant by having modified camshafts and a lightweight connecting rod and piston group. The picture is complemented by specialized firmware of the control unit (ECU), thanks to which the car literally takes off. With a 5-speed manual transmission, acceleration from zero to hundreds will be achieved in 9.5 seconds. The maximum speed limit is 195 km/h, but according to numerous reviews from car owners, not everyone managed to achieve it.

Suspension

The Granta Sport suspension has also changed. At the front, the independent suspension system is “overgrown” with adjustable hydraulic (or gas-filled) shock absorbers, cylindrical springs and anti-roll bars, the design of which also allows them to be adjusted during operation. This entire structure is restrained by tubular-type levers (welded) equipped with spherical hinges. The rear suspension of the sport version of the Grant is semi-independent, located on the trailing arms. In addition, reaction-type rods with similar spherical hinges are attached to the rear. It is not difficult to guess that such a design allows you to fully experience the dynamics of the car. And the safety of movement has literally increased significantly, taking into account the peculiarities of domestic roads.

Brakes

The brake system of the Lada Granta Sport was also not spared and was completely redesigned. The brakes are represented by a system produced by AP-Racing (a division of the Italian racing giant Brembo, specializing in the design and production of automotive braking systems). At the front, the car is equipped with 4-piston disc brakes (200 mm) with forced ventilation, and at the rear - 135 mm disc brakes with 2 pistons.

Having celebrated its victory in the Russian car market at the end of the past year, AvtoVAZ began the 2019 campaign with sports news and new products. “Today you win, tomorrow you sell” - everything seems to be a classic of automotive marketing! Therefore, on January 12, AvtoVAZ presented a new family of its sports cars, the next day it held the Christmas Race of Champions with the participation of the country's best pilots, and this week it will begin sales of civilian Vesta Sport sedans, which, according to unofficial data, will cost 1 million 58 thousand rubles.

The serial Vesta Sport with a 145-horsepower 1.8 engine is already well known to us: Vladimir Melnikov brought it together with competitors at the Sochi autodrome back in the summer. However, the start of serial production was delayed until the very end of December, and only in January the cars began to arrive at dealers. But you shouldn’t wait for the Vesta Sport station wagon - it has been certified, but there are no plans to launch it on the market: it can only appear if something like a miracle happens to the demand for the sedan.

The newest Lada Vesta TCR ring should stir up interest in Vesta Sport, which, starting with the 2019 season, will compete in the most prestigious Touring class of the Russian touring car championship RSKG. But, of course, technically these are two completely different cars, which, in fact, only have the name and headlights in common. And the new VAZ car is also radically different from the Vesta TCR of the past - in the engine and suspension.

The Lada Sport Rosneft team finished the 2018 season in the Touring classification in second place, losing to the Lukoil team, and Lada leader Kirill Ladygin took bronze in the individual competition. However, the change in technology is dictated not only by the desire to improve results. The second reason is that Lada previously used two-liter Renault turbo engines, which have been out of production for five years now, which created difficulties with their maintenance. Now under the hood of Vesta there is a 1.8 turbo engine, prepared on the basis of the M5Pt engine from Renault Megane RS and Alpine A110 cars. Its power, thanks to modifications by the French company Oreca, remained at the same level - 350 hp. However, due to the smaller displacement, the torque promises to be more modest (the two-liter engine produced 420 Nm). But the new Vesta TCR for the first time received a rear independent double-wishbone suspension of the original design. Now the car tests are in full swing, which are taking place at the French Magny-Cours circuit, and the RSKG season itself starts on April 20.

In addition to the Touring classification, Lada Sport team pilots compete in Vestas in the more modest Superproduction ring class. Here last year gold was won in the team and individual competitions: the first in the Russian Cup was Mikhail Mityaev, the second was the head of the Lada Sport company, Vladislav Nezvankin. In the 2019 season, the equipment for Superproduction will remain the same - it is Vesta with a domestic VAZ-21129 turbo engine with an output of 255 hp. The only differences will be in the coloring and the 30-kilogram ballast that Lada will receive from the series organizers.

Following the reforms in the production Kalina and Granta families, changes also occurred with racing vehicles based on Kalina: National class ring hatchbacks received a new design and now bear the name Granta NFR R1. It’s the same in rallying: former Kalinas are now also called Grants and look the part. The interests of the Lada Sport Rosneft brand team on snowy and gravel tracks will be represented by the duo of St. Petersburg residents Yuri Arshansky and Alexander Andreev, for whom a new car with a 1.8 engine was built - previously VAZ rally drivers used only 1600 cc equipment. And the season in the Russian Rally Championship will begin very soon - on January 25-26.

But in fact, Lada began the battles of 2022 with its own Christmas Race of Champions on the ice track of the factory training ground in Sosnovka. AvtoVAZ has been holding these competitions for 22 years, but this time the lineup of participants turned out to be especially stellar. The visit to Tolyatti was even discussed with Jenson Button and Sergei Sirotkin, but even without them there were enough big names in the dispute for the prizes. Vitaly Petrov, Mikhail Aleshin, Alexey Lukyanyuk, Kirill Ladygin, Alexey Dudukalo, Sergey Uspensky, Dmitry Bragin and 17 other champions and prize-winners of various motorsport disciplines, including karting, took to the start line.

Everyone had the same weapons - Lada Vesta sedans with a 1.6 naturally aspirated engine, boosted to 170 hp, a cam five-speed manual transmission and combat rally tires with a stud offset of 4.5 mm. But paired synchronized races on ice are a special art, so it was a priori difficult for the circuit athletes who competed in Sosnovka for the first time to argue with Kirill Ladygin, who had previously won the Christmas Race of Champions five times, and with Dmitry Bragin, who won three times, including last year. However, the “newbie” Vitaly Petrov reached the quarterfinals, and 20-year-old Egor Sanin from the National circuit class made it to the decisive heat, where the Ulyanovsk resident fought with Ladygin. Alas, a full-fledged fight did not work out: in the first race, the highly experienced Kirill took the upper hand by a large margin, and in the second race (the score in the final was up to two victories) on Vesta Sanina, after a ski jump, the fuel pump failed. By that time, Ladygin was again in the lead, and re-races were not provided for by the regulations. Thus, Kirill became a six-time winner of the Christmas Race of Champions and received its main prize, the Silver Boat, for eternal storage.

As for the characteristics of the Granta Sport or VAZ 219059, the car was made a little more spacious in the cabin due to the increased wheelbase. The distance between the front and rear axles of the wheels is 2,490 mm; for a regular Granta, this figure is 2,476 mm. The luggage compartment of the sports version was reduced from 520 to 480 liters of volume. The ground clearance or ground clearance of the Grant Sport has also become two centimeters less and is 140 mm, as in the regular version with an automatic transmission. The wheels are R16; for a regular grant they range in size from 13 to 15 inches. By the way, the manufacturer recommends using only 95 gasoline. The appearance of the car is not bad, it really looks like a model with a sporty character. The embossed hood smoothly transitions to a small radiator grille, which is decorated with a chrome insert. The optics remain the same; they are made in the shape of a parallelogram with rounded edges. The filling is halogen. The massive bumper is equipped with aerodynamic elements and rather large round fog lights.

At the moment, Lada Granta Sport can be ordered in the Drive Active configuration. Essentially, it will be a standard car with the usual 106-horsepower engine, factory transmission and standard brakes, but with all the external trappings of a sports version. As for the Sport package, it has received several rather serious improvements.

This engine is based on a conventional naturally aspirated sixteen-valve petrol engine with a capacity of 1596 cubic centimeters. It has a simple intake manifold, without a system that changes its geometry, as well as sports camshafts with increased valve timing and lift. It is also worth noting a more efficient exhaust system with a different resonator and muffler. As a result, the engineers managed to squeeze out 114 horsepower at 6750 rpm and 154 Nm of torque at 4750 rpm. The power unit is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Its main feature is another main pair with a gear ratio of 4.3. Thanks to this transmission and a modified engine, the sedan accelerates to the first hundred in 9.5 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 195 kilometers per hour. As for fuel consumption, it has increased slightly. Granta will consume 10.1 liters of gasoline per hundred in the city, 6.8 on the highway and 8.6 liters in the combined cycle.

Lada Granta Sport is a unique offer. It has a rather interesting and dynamic design, which nicely refreshes the nondescript features of a rather small car. Despite its class, such a car will not get lost in the gray everyday traffic and will attract glances, even compared to its competitors. The interior is a realm of good finishing materials, sporty ergonomics and comfort. Even a heavy traffic jam during rush hour or a country trip should not cause unnecessary inconvenience to the driver. The manufacturer understands perfectly well that the hallmark of such modifications is their engine. That is why the sedan is equipped with a simple but quite revving engine, which is a fusion of proven technologies and many years of engineering experience.

The car is offered in the only “Lux” configuration 219059-77-010, only with a modified 5-speed manual gearbox and a 16-valve engine with 120 horsepower. The 2018-2019 Granta Sport salon is essentially an improved package of the stock car (Luxe). However, there were some updates here: the trim of the steering wheel and gearshift lever. They are covered in leather and edged with red stitching, looking very stylish. The center console still has 2 ventilation manifolds covered with air flow control covers. In the center is the multimedia system screen with several control keys, and just below are the air conditioning system control buttons and the corresponding adjustment knobs. The display of the multimedia system is touch-sensitive and of very high quality - there is even an imitation of feedback. The front row seats of the Lada Granta Sport have acquired a more aggressive look, have lateral support and are equipped with a heating function (for use in the cold season). Red stitching, which has become an integral part of the interior design, is also present in the design of the seats and handbrake. The seat belts have their own adjustable fasteners, which, unfortunately, is not available on the stock Grant.

The side panels are covered with good quality leatherette. The car interior is equipped with ISOFIX fastenings and has a rear door locking function, which increases the level of safety and allows you to travel comfortably even with small children without any problems. The rear row seat layout (40×60) makes it possible to rationally use the interior space. The volume of the luggage compartment in the standard position is 520 liters and can be increased due to the interior (you will have to fold the rear row seats).

Price and options

We indicated the old price tags, because the production of the model has been completed. The average price on the secondary market is 400,000 rubles.

I would like to say right away that the buyer can install almost any desired options here and this will certainly affect the price. We will discuss the versions and their prices, which are offered by the manufacturer, because we don’t know what else potential buyers might want and how much it will cost.
