Stiff clutch pedal Lada Granta FL: causes and solutions

Fog lights (FTL) are an additional source of light. The flat and wide horizontal beam of these headlights extends directly above the road, which improves road illumination in foggy conditions. PTFs were not installed on the Lada Kalina in all modifications, so the question “how to install fog lights on Kalina” is still relevant.

Stiff clutch pedal Kalina 2

Good day, my dear subscribers!
I have a problem with a tight clutch. I learned about this problem from my friend, who decided to compare my white star with his newly purchased, new Priora. He told me that on his Prior, the pedal is MUCH easier to squeeze compared to mine. I compared it and, indeed, it became somewhat heavy over time, somehow I didn’t even pay attention to it. After surfing the Internet, I came across possible reasons for the “stiffness” of the clutch pedal, and here are some of them: — The clutch cable was damaged (I changed it, it didn’t help) — The clutch fork was not lubricated — The release bearing’s movement along the guide is difficult So, I decided to sign up for an inspection to the OD to inspect this defect and further eliminate the problem. As a result of the inspection, the dealer stated that the pedal was tight. It is believed that the problem lies in the release bearing. Somehow I don’t want to remove the box to lubricate the fork and I have to pay about 3 thousand for it.

There are no extraneous sounds, except for periodic frequent clicks (auto-tensioning mechanism). The release noise is not heard. There is no pedal squeak. Mileage 19,000 km.

recently changed the clutch (basket, disc, release);

At first everything was fine, but a week later it was different:

1). The clutch pedal has become more difficult to squeeze out (becomes tighter), compared to how it was squeezed out immediately after the replacement (softly).

QUESTION: Is this how it should be? (at the service center where I changed it, they said everything was fine, that’s how it should be, it got used to it).

2). a very large (it seems to me) play in the pedal appeared, i.e. I press the pedal, it goes to idle (the fork on the box moves), as soon as the idle stops it stops almost immediately.

QUESTION: what is the reason for such a large play, is this normal, and should it catch on so quickly? (regarding the backlash, the service department said that it can’t be adjusted with a tosik, there’s some kind of auto-adjustment there.).

PS I didn’t change the cable, rubber rings were installed at the service.

IF ALL THIS IS NOT NORMAL, THEN HOW TO CURE FROM IT.

THANK YOU EVERYONE in advance.

Let's start with the clutch cable drive, as the most common one on modern cars.

1. The most common problem with the clutch drive is a worn clutch cable. If cracks are visible on the protective braiding of the cable or there are signs of corrosion at the end of the cable, then the problem is probably in the cable. Replacing the clutch cable is the easiest procedure; you need to disconnect the cable from the gearbox and from the clutch pedal, this can be done in literally 30 minutes, you only need a pair of 17-size keys (in the case of front-wheel drive cars.

When pressing the clutch pedal we definitely have to apply some kind of force, but there are situations when it is pressed too hard. In such a situation, we are dealing with the problem of a tight clutch pedal.

There may be several reasons for such a breakdown. The most common of them are sticking of the lever or cable, wear of the fork bearing. So, in order to restore the correct functioning of the pedal, you first of all have to deal with the so-called symptom of the breakdown (or what led to the breakdown).

So, if the clutch pedal becomes stiff as a result of wear on the fork bearing, then when you press the pedal, you will hear some rumbling, which indicates that the release bearing has already served its purpose and needs to be replaced with a new one.

The mechanisms developed in our time are designed to cover long distances (more than 1,300 thousand km), if the driver regularly diagnoses them and the necessary replacement of worn ones.

Py.Sy. Yes, I forgot - the same master said that if I don’t change the clutch, the flywheel will be damaged (and it costs, if I understand correctly, some huge money.), It’s interesting to know - what is the ratio of the clutch life to the flywheel life?

Main design options and criteria affecting quality

The following types of products can be found in the retail chain:

  • Products under the Bosch brand are always sold as a set (2 pieces) and are distinguished by fairly durable glass and good quality luminous flux. We can say that this is the most reliable option, but its price is noticeably higher than all other analogues.
  • Production PTFs are in many ways similar to those described above, but in fact their quality is noticeably inferior to the first option. The only advantage is lower cost.
  • Kirzhach fog lights on Kalina have lens-shaped convex glass, which allows you to concentrate the light flux and direct it exactly where it is required. Quite a good and reliable solution.
  • Products under the ProSport brand and other similar brands are produced by Chinese factories. It is difficult to judge their reliability and quality, since one option can be excellent, while the second one will fail in a very short time.

Bosch products also play leading roles here.
The question of which fog lights are best for Kalina raises a number of disputes, so the decision is yours. As practice shows, the most popular options are Bosch and Kirzhach.

Important! All of the above options are excellent for installation, and you do not have to make any alterations to the design.

When adjustment is required

Clutch adjustment is only performed when the engine is switched off. It is required if there is a deviation from the following values:

  • full pedal travel does not exceed 146 mm;
  • movement of the cable lead relative to the release fork lever - within 270 mm;
  • runout of the dependent disc linings does not exceed 0.5 mm;
  • the distance between the pads and the rivets that hold them is 0.2 mm or less.

There are several ways to check if your car needs a clutch adjustment.

  • You should press the pedal several times in a row and listen for any extraneous noise. If the clutch pedal sticks or squeaks, it is advisable to make an adjustment. In some cases, car owners are unable to visually assess whether the pedal returns to its place freely. In such situations, it is recommended to do the following:
  • press the clutch with your hand until it stops;
  • stop applying force, but leave your hand on the pedal in order to feel if there is movement.

Causes of a squeaking clutch pedal

The causes of squeaks are different for everyone, but you can identify the most common and common ones that are found everywhere.

  1. The first and main reason why a pedal squeaks is wear on the pedal pad . Cars with high mileage often suffer from this disease. The pedals have a rubber pad that has convex shapes and a pattern; with high mileage, this pad wears off and when you press the pedal, the sole slides over the pedal and makes a creaking sound.
  2. When you press the pedal there is a squeaking sound, no matter what shoes you are wearing. Most likely, the mechanism that makes the pedal a pedal—the spring—has worn out. A pedal may have two springs, one below it and one above it. Some cars only have one spring above or below it. The appearance of a squeak is associated with wear of this mechanism.
  3. It is worth noting that the clutch pedal mechanism is not complicated and is heavily loaded. Dirty shoes and moisture on the soles get into the pedal assembly. Therefore, pedals often squeak, moisture and dirt get into the pedal mount and displace the lubricant.
  4. Not an obvious reason. For example, it happens that after soundproofing a car, the floor level has risen. The clutch pedal may touch the rubber mat and make strange sounds, as well as squeaking.

Ways to eliminate squeaking pedals

In the picture “clutch pedal structure”, red arrows indicate the places where squeaking most often occurs.

We have already figured out the reasons why the clutch pedals squeak. It's time to eliminate those annoying pedal squeaks once and for all.

The first step is to lubricate the moving parts of the pedal. Spray lubricant onto the pedal linkage where the clutch pedal bends when pressed by your foot. You can lubricate with WD-40 or its equivalent.

Second, apply a thicker lubricant to the spring that returns the clutch pedal to its original position. It is better to lubricate this mechanism with LITOL lubricant.

Instead of a spring, you may have another return mechanism, such as a cable.

If these tips do not correct the situation, then try installing a pedal cover. The store sells rubber or metal pedal covers. Choose any one you like and install.

Taken together, all these methods will help eliminate any source of squeaking in the pedal assembly!

Fuses and relays in Lada Kalina, electrical diagrams

If one or another electrical device in your Kalina has stopped working - headlights, low or high beams, cigarette lighter, stove, turn signals, as well as other devices, then the first thing you need to do is find the cause of the malfunction, in particular, check the fuses and relays in the Lada Kalina.

The first thing to check in electrical circuits is the fuses, because they are the weakest point of the circuit and are usually the first to fail. Read on to learn about which fuses do what in the Lada Kalina, as well as where the relays are located and how to find the right one.

If you do not want to get into an unpleasant situation when, due to a blown fuse, one or another device refuses to work, but you don’t have a whole one at hand, it is useful to make it a rule to always carry with you a set consisting of different fuses.

For the Lada Kalina, you can buy a similar set at any auto store that sells auto parts for domestic cars. It takes up very little space, but its benefits in case of failure will significantly reduce your time to fix the problem.
