New information has appeared on the Internet about the preparatory processes for developing the Lada 4x4 , which is also known under the working names “Niva NG” or “Niva-3”.
The most joyful news is that a new generation for Niva will be implemented. Work on the model is proceeding at a rapid pace, the main design decisions have already been made, everything is ready for fruitful production.
Release date of the new Niva
Anatoly Moskaluk (project manager) said that the new Niva 4x4 2018-2019 is expected to appear at the end of the year. Also, from the words of Anatoly Nikolaevich, it became known that the car will remain in the same price niche as the current Lada 4x4.
But at the same time, the current AVTOVAZ SUV will have fundamental differences from the new generation. There is nothing to say yet about the platform on which the new Niva will be created; there is no final clarity regarding this: perhaps it will be a completely new development, or with partial use of existing elements.
The company is also actively considering the platform from today's Niva Chevrolet.
Overall dimensions of the new body
From the very beginning, the new Niva 4x4 will be available in five-door and three-door versions. The new product will increase slightly in size, becoming taller, wider and longer. The wheelbase of the three-door version will be approximately 2300 mm, that is, it will increase by 100 mm, and for the five-door version it will be 2450 mm. An interesting solution with a spare wheel; now it will be located under the bottom of the body, in the rear overhang.
New generation of Niva (new body)
In the global automobile market, the demand for classic SUVs has recently decreased noticeably and sales of crossovers have increased. In an effort to comply with this trend, AvtoVAZ plans to release its crossover under the well-known Lada 4x4 brand.
However, fans of full-fledged SUVs should not be upset: according to some reports, two new Niva 4x4 models will hit the market: in the form of a crossover and in the form of a full-fledged SUV.

The development of an SUV in a new body is still in its early stages, so there are not even schematic images of the new Niva yet, not to mention photos. However, some technical characteristics and details of the new model are already known.
Exterior features of the new Niva 4x4
Information has appeared on the Internet that Tolyatti developers have begun to “try on” new exterior elements for their eternal SUV. And the bumpers will be the first to be updated in the external design of the body. Moreover, their redesign has already been officially confirmed by the company. Presumably, the new Niva will receive door sills and door sills, and in addition to this, original decorative moldings.
Along with these seemingly insignificant innovations, VAZ plans to install a slightly modified radiator grille and updated optics on the facelift modification. The new Lada 4×4 has already begun to be equipped with daytime running lights located in the sidelights, which automatically light up when the key is turned in the ignition.
Of course, basic information about the upcoming updates to the appearance has not yet been announced. Some analysts claim the appearance of redesigned rear-view mirrors, windshield wipers and new wheel rims.
I would like to remind you that at the end of last year, a domestic company launched an improved line of body painting, which, according to the company’s management, will provide new SUVs with fivefold protection against paint layer corrosion.
Welding joints will now be coated with high-tech mastic, and the body will now be treated with an additional layer of catapharesis primer. Moreover, consumers began to be offered an expanded range of colors from today’s trendy metallic enamels.

The launch of production of Lada 4x4 2022 SUVs with a modernized interior became known a month ago, but until now AvtoVAZ kept secret information about the modifications made. And now the company has published a photo of the new interior, while simultaneously telling about all the improvements. True, prices and configurations for the updated cars are still not named - their publication will have to wait for some time.
So, first of all, we pay attention to the modified front panel of the Lada 4x4. In the center there is a new climate control unit with three rotary handles. The deflectors located on top have increased in size, and the dampers located inside have acquired an electric drive. The instrument cluster of the model is also new - the speedometer and tachometer scales received more modern graphics, plus there was a place between them for a compact display of the on-board computer.
The innovations don't stop there. The 2022 SUV is equipped with a pair of 12-volt outlets, a larger glove box and revised cup holders rotated 90 degrees. The Niva also installed new front seats with accentuated lateral support, and the folding mechanism for the three-door version was improved to improve ease of use.
In addition, the new Lada 4x4 interior is distinguished by:
- Headrests in the back row;
- Fully molded headliner (previously stretched);
- New handrails and sun visors;
- Different trim for the front roof pillars;
- New ceiling panel with a lampshade and a button for the ERA-GLONASS module;
- Better sound insulation.
In addition to everything, the updated SUV can boast modified power unit mounts with reduced vibration levels. And the Urban modification also sports a modernized front bumper with integrated fog lights.
Some other changes were also planned. For example, the model should have received new door cards, a different gearshift lever and improved windshield wipers. But as a result, the update took place according to a reduced program.
In technology, everything was limited to replacing the engine mounts. The engine itself in the Lada 4x4 remains the same - under the hood there is still a 1.7-liter unit with a capacity of 83 hp, which is combined with a 5-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive. Today, the three-door Niva costs from 523,900 rubles, the five-door – from 562,900 rubles, the Urban version – 625,900 rubles.
Innovations in the interior
There is not much information about what will be added and improved in the interior of the updated model. There is information that the new Lada 4x4 will have air conditioning, electric mirrors, and heated seats in the first row, which will come in very handy during winter operation. It is also known that the center console will radically change in its appearance.
The manufacturer also proudly stated that the sound insulation and sealing have been redesigned, which has led to a noticeable reduction in extraneous sounds in the cabin. Evidence of this was the installation of new vibration-damping materials, especially under the hood.
AvtoVAZ gives future consumers a guarantee that the doors will close tightly the first time. Apparently, these innovations were borrowed from the Granta lift, which was presented to the general public in the spring of 2015. Regarding the glass, we can say that they have already been updated; now the isometric version is used.
There is no other information at the moment; let’s hope that the management of the car plant will give the car in its basic version at least a simple audio installation. You shouldn’t even hope for a navigation system and a multimedia complex, unless in the most “charged” configuration.
Technical characteristics of Lada 4×4 2018-2019
It is no longer news that CV joints are used in the cardan drive instead of old crosspieces, which significantly affected reliability and silence. The plans of AvtoVAZ technologists include the introduction of an electric drive for locking the center differential, reworking the front suspension and equipping the new Niva 4x4 with an improved braking system.
But the most important update in the new 2018-2019 car will be the improved engine. We are talking about a gasoline power unit, the capacity of which is 1.7 liters; most likely, it will increase its power indicators by several tens of horsepower. The possibility of sixteen valves appearing instead of the usual eight cannot be ruled out. Many sources claim that this will be an engine from Priora.
Whatever happens, the power unit will become much more dynamic and, very importantly, will consume less fuel. Today, the enterprise is already debugging all important components, and complex tests are also carried out on the bench. Based on the fact that the new Niva will receive rack and pinion steering, a new subframe and crankcase will be installed in the engine compartment.
Lada Niva 4x4 2022 (facelift)
The classic Niva (or Lada 4x4) has been produced unchanged for more than 40 years. This is one of the oldest models of the domestic automaker. In 2022, the concern's designers decided to give it a more modern look. Initially, restyling was planned only for the relatively new Urban version, but later it was decided that the entire Lada 4x4 line would be transformed. Photos of the updated 2022 Niva are kept secret for now; the official presentation is scheduled for August, when the next Moscow Motor Show will take place.

What's new
Nothing is officially known about the planned changes yet, but according to sources at the plant, the rear lights will be completely changed and the front ones partially: the classic circle shape itself will remain, but the lens pattern will be new.
However, external changes will be minimal; restyling will mainly affect the interior of the SUV. Since the start of production in the 70s, what fans have been most looking forward to is a radical change in the Niva's interior. Such developments already exist at the plant, but the concern was in no hurry to implement them until recently. Company representatives explained this by the high economic costs of introducing innovations: the price of the new Niva could rise. However, a completely new Niva model will appear only in 2022 (or even later), so it was decided to update the interior of the old Lada 4x4 2022.
It is noteworthy that initially only the Urban modification was supposed to get the new interior, however, to reduce the cost of production, the classic Niva will also receive innovations.

Technique
As for the technical part, there is nothing new to expect, especially since the development of the new 2nd generation Niva is already underway.
By the way, the latest changes in technology were made quite recently, in 2016. Serious modifications concerned the chassis of the car. The company's engineers have improved the bearing in the front hubs. The new element does not require additional adjustment and is durable. Following this, the steering knuckle changed. The new models stopped “yaw” when braking, which improved the Niva’s driving properties. Gas-filled shock absorbers were also included in the design, which improved the car's handling. Vibration on the move was reduced by updating the fastening of the front axle gearbox. The gearbox was secured independently of the bridge to facilitate operation of the model.
How much will it cost?
In 2022, only a small restyling will take place, so the price of the new Niva 4x4 should not change significantly. Let us remind you that now an SUV can be bought for 500 thousand rubles. However, you need to be prepared to pay for new options if they appear.
