One of the main events of MIAS 2018 was the presentation of the new Lada Granta family, which was presented in four body types (sedan, liftback, hatchback and station wagon). The price of this car has remained virtually unchanged, but the model has received a lot of updates. All the features of the new Granta are presented in the video.
What's new
External updates
:
- The front part of the new Granta (sedan, liftback, hatchback and station wagon) is unified. New front bumper, grille, headlights, hood, fenders. The washer nozzles were moved from the hood to the windshield trim (jabot).
- The rear of the new Granta has also been updated. The sedan's license plate has moved from the bumper to the trunk lid of a new shape. The liftback's rear bumper is originally divided into two parts by a black plastic insert. On all body types, an opening button has appeared on the trunk lid.
- New 15-inch wheel rims with a unique design with alternating two-dimensional spokes and a polished surface.
- Rubber hood seal.

The LADA Granta SW station wagon uses a cable-driven MT: this improves the vehicle’s vibration comfort. Reliability and clarity of switching. Thanks to the German gear shift mechanism, clarity and information content are brought to the level of European analogues. The manual gearbox for the 8-valve engine has a new main gear ratio: 3.9 instead of 3.7. The new transmission improves the car's dynamics and provides confident acceleration.
They haven’t heard about the subframe at AvtoVAZ and don’t want to hear about it. Structurally, the suspension is almost the same as on Kalina. There is nothing revolutionary new there. However, marketers sing odes that there are many changes in the suspension compared to previous models.
Poor handling on the highway after 110 km per hour, you have to constantly steer. It's all due to the ground clearance, which in winter or in the fields is a huge plus for a car's cross-country ability. There are problems with saffron milk caps on the hood, so I recommend gluing a strip of vinyl to the hood from new for protection. Also, the edge of the roof above the windshield is also caught by stones.
The Lada Granta station wagon is a reliable, inexpensive to operate, roomy, economical car, high ground clearance, a very spacious trunk, a fully folding rear seat back, which opens access to the trunk and increases the size of the cargo being transported.

Behind the wheel
Absolutely all models of the company receive almost identical power units. In this case, under the hood of the Lada Granta SW station wagon you can find a 1.6-liter engine powered by gasoline fuel. Its eight-valve modification is capable of delivering 87 horsepower. The sixteen-valve engine is more productive - 98 or 106 forces. The weakest engine can only work in tandem with a five-speed manual transmission. The middle version is controlled by a four-speed automatic. For the top-end, only five-speed gearboxes with mechanical or automatic operating modes are prepared. The car can only have front-wheel drive.

The new body of the Lada Granta 2022 station wagon, although it is a carriage, does not stand out with particularly large dimensions. Yes, the car is slightly larger than the sedan version, but you won’t be able to fit much more stuff here. The front of the car still takes up very little space. At the very top there is a perfectly flat hood cover, located at a slight inclination to the road. Further here you can notice huge headlights, filled only with halogen lights.
At the ends of the air intake system you can find modest fog lights, which have a round shape. They are installed exclusively in a rich configuration. The doors here are decorated with a modest protruding strip running along their entire length. Also here you can see slightly widened wheel arches and other minor decorative elements.
The body kit is also simple in design, including only a plastic diffuser and anti-fog optics in an extended configuration. The exhaust system here is completely routed under the bottom of the car.
Salon
Of course, the interior of the Lada Granta SW 2021 station wagon cannot exactly be called luxurious, but what is available here is enough to travel even over long distances. The interior of the car is finished exclusively with inexpensive materials, such as fabrics and plastic, but all of them are of fairly high quality. Now there is nothing holding it together, and the seats and other interior elements should become more wear-resistant. A test drive later will show how true this statement is.
The center console of the car is designed as simply as possible. It has quite large dimensions, but you won’t be able to find a ton of functional controls on it. At the very top there is a pair of neat deflectors, and directly below them there is either a multimedia system monitor or a simple radio tape recorder. These elements are surrounded by analog buttons. At the end of the console you can find washers for the climate system, a few more buttons and holes for accessories.
The driver's seat here is designed exactly the same as in other Lada models. The steering wheel has large dimensions and a rather thick steering wheel, upholstered in fabric. Any buttons for controlling multimedia or assistants are installed here only at an additional cost. Behind the steering wheel you can find a massive instrument panel filled with a pair of round analog gauges that are beautifully illuminated in different colors, as well as a modest on-board computer monitor located vertically.
Although the Granta SW station wagon is much more spacious than a sedan, five people can still fit here with difficulty. Each seat is made of simple fabric and is equipped with a minimum set of functions. Passengers in the first row can only be content with mechanical seat adjustments, headrests, simulated lateral support and heating. The three-seater sofa, located on the second row, is equipped only with headrests and a central armrest, for which you will have to pay extra.
The wagon's capacity is very small - only 355 liters in standard form. When the second row is removed, this figure only increases to 670 liters. The only saving grace is the presence of an underground space in which the spare tire and some tools are located. In general, you definitely won’t be able to take a lot of things with you on a trip.

Features of the packages
You can compare the configurations in a convenient table on the official website (link to: sedan, liftback, hatchback and station wagon).
However, AVTOVAZ does not indicate a number of changes in these tables. For example:
- The “sport” button is only available on trim levels with AMT (“robot”).
- More expensive trim levels have felt fender liners.
- Simpler versions do not have external plastic trim on the doors.
- In simple configurations, the turn signal repeater is located not in the mirror, but on the wing.
- The heater and air conditioner knobs are flag-shaped (on more affordable versions) or round (on more expensive ones).
- The gearshift lever, depending on the configuration, can be simply plastic or more beautiful and shiny.
- The liftback now has a strap for closing the fifth door.
- The part of the hood (which is closer to the windshield) is slightly raised to prevent dirt from getting on the glass.

Driving performance
The 2022 Lada Granta Lux drives well. Picks up speed quickly. There is a heated windshield, rear window and mirrors, directional stability (it can be turned off), ABS. A system that creates braking force.
The dashboard shows temperature and fuel quantity. There is cruise control and heated seats, a tape recorder and navigation devices. City Guide navigation, touch screen, but a little slow to respond.
Plastic panels. Not very good sound insulation.
The instruments show and signal with sound if the engine speed is high and suggest switching to the next gear. Also shows if the gear is very low. This is done to save fuel.
The box turns on very well. Cable transmission, fifth gear is engaged in reverse. The electric power steering works quite well. Good visibility. Goes well in traffic. Very responsive brakes.
Price in the test drive configuration: 561,200 rubles, in the “standard” configuration – 414 thousand.
It’s a good car, from the outside it looks almost like a full-fledged foreign car. If you don't drive it recklessly, it is also very economical.
Interior
The interior of the Lada Granta is head and shoulders above the quality of its exterior trim. Of course, there is no point in comparing the interior of the Granta with foreign sedans of the same class - the ergonomics and aesthetics there will be a level higher, but nevertheless, by purchasing this car, you get a huge amount of space in the front. Granta also has achievements that its predecessors did not have: temperature and fuel level indicators, which previously had a physical location on the console, have immigrated to the liquid crystal display in an electronic version.
The chairs are unremarkable, but they are comfortable to sit in; the cushion is long enough even for a tall person; in Kalina, for example, it is shorter. In the rear seats, not everything is so smooth: there is not much space, and if three people sit, the middle one will be hampered by the tunnel running through the center.

A facelift is a normal occurrence for any automaker after 3 years from the introduction of the model. Companies are trying to bring the “face” of the car in line with modern trends, add newly arrived electronics and security systems, and reconfigure the suspension and components to new standards. In general, they are trying not only to justify the price increase that accompanies any facelift, but to make the car more comfortable, more modern and safer. From this bell tower, it’s impossible to look at AvtoVAZ’s inventive approach to Granta restyling without a bitter smile. Stick an interior from another outdated car into one outdated car and decorate it on the outside with a trendy “X” from Lada Vesta - Bravo, guys! This should be patented immediately! I wonder what Steve Mattin thinks about all this?
Grant hatchback or liftback?
Many people, in the old-fashioned way, call the Lada Granta a hatchback, although in advertising and the technical data sheet of the model it says “liftback”.
And yet, what is the correct name for the new Lada Granta: liftback or hatchback? A hatchback (translated from English as “rear hatch”) is a car body with a door in the rear wall and a shortened rear overhang. In addition, compared to the sedan and station wagon, the hatchback has a smaller trunk volume. The most famous hatchback version is the VAZ 2108.
The liftback ("rising rear") is a type of hatchback, but thanks to the short protrusion on the rear door, the car in the closed position is very similar to a sedan. This is where the main difference lies. Accordingly, the new Lada Granta is 100% liftback.
