In general, the condition of the box largely depends on the nature of the operation, so a manual transmission with “tired” synchronizers and humming shaft bearings can tell you that the car was driven hard (or simply much, much more than the odometer shows), and they didn’t bother with maintenance.
Based on the VAZ-2181, AMT was created - a robotic gearbox using ZF components. Compared to a manual transmission, the AMT transmission is, of course, slower during acceleration, but is not inferior to it in terms of fuel efficiency. In terms of reliability, everything is about the same. Plus the specificity of this type of gearbox: over time, unhurried shifts also become “jerky”, in which case it may be necessary to replace the clutch, or even the actuators (this is especially common for owners of early copies of cars with AMT). In fact, everything is not so complicated and expensive, the main thing is to find specialists who know how to work with “robots”.
In combination with the 98-horsepower engine, the Granta received a Jatco JF414E automatic transmission, which also turned out to be well tuned and does not at all spoil the driving character of the car. True, the old 4-speed automatic transmission can hardly be called economical; the real average consumption is a liter and a half more than with a manual transmission. But the level of reliability is high, especially if you don’t overload the box with quick starts and change the oil on time. Strictly speaking, the car itself, which attracts mostly calm drivers, is not very fashionable, but at the same time it is quite light, goes well with the character of the “automatic” - and all this has a beneficial effect on its reliability and service life.

Suspension
It handles all urban irregularities, so far there are no complaints about it. Those bumps that on the 2112 were crawled over at a crawl at 15 km/h, on the Grant they can be easily passed at 40-50 km/h. It’s possible faster, but why should I systematically kill components and assemblies? There will still be an opportunity to play around in the pits.
The only question about the suspension is that when high speed bumps pass at speeds above 30 km/h, a knock is heard in the front of the car, maybe the shock absorbers are working on rebound (which is unlikely), or maybe the Guarantor pin in the glove compartment rattles (which is more likely). At the factory, the engine received the marking 21127 and was a continuation of the dynasty of Priorov units. A special feature of the engine is the installed resonance chamber on the exhaust system. After 50 km there is a glitch in the dome light, and with it the glove compartment and trunk. Window seals allow water to leak onto the door trim. 1,2,3 gears howl loudly. I was very afraid of domestic cars, of the fact that anything could happen at any moment. But I was very pleased with the Lada Granta hatchback, it has a spacious trunk and interior, which is very cool for traveling, high ground clearance allows you to go through places that are beyond the reach of a Ford Focus or Polo.
The quality of the fabric in the cabin is surprising; it does not fray and keeps its shape, which is surprising for it. There is no noise at all - this is a distinctive feature of AvtoVAZ and I would not pay 20,000 rubles for full noise in such a car. Appearance
In general, the new body of the Lada Granta 2022 hatchback is very similar to the previous generation of the car. The same dimensions, shapes, but even from the photo you can find some improvements that noticeably refreshed the appearance of the car.
Naturally, the front part of the car took the brunt of the design ideas, which was almost completely migrated here from the aforementioned Vesta. It is just as short and slightly inclined, and the hood lid, where it all begins, is supplemented with only minor protrusions. In the center of the bumper there is the already beloved grille in the shape of the letter “X”.
The side of the car hasn't changed at all. There are also huge windows built into doorways with thin black pillars, large doors with a wavy relief and a bulging strip running across the entire lower part, as well as slightly inflated arches with ordinary wheels inside. The only innovation here can be called the redesigned mirrors, which received turning signals.
Also, quite a bit of interesting stuff was added to the rear. The shape of the trunk door is still semicircular. The roof does not have any visor, although it is greatly lacking here. The only decoration on the door, apart from the huge window, is a bit of relief. The headlights are located on stands, gradually widening towards the end. On the body kit you can only see foglights and a diffuser made of unpainted plastic, under which a very tiny exhaust pipe is hidden.

There have been attempts to improve the finishing materials, but in the end they still use the cheapest plastic, which constantly makes nasty sounds while driving. Chairs trimmed with simple fabric cannot be called comfortable either. The shape and finish of the steering wheel have not changed at all. It still takes up a lot of space and does not cause the most pleasant sensations when touched.
Unfortunately, no modifications were made to the seats at all. The car is also equipped with not the most comfortable and soft fabric seats, which are equipped with a very small set of options. Here you can only adjust the first row, and even then only with the help of mechanical drives.

We decided to find the differences between the two Granta bodies and started with safety. The creators carefully approached the issue of revising the body design. Since the hatchback is inferior to the sedan in terms of resistance to lateral loads, it was decided to strengthen the roof, arches and wings, and increase the overall thickness of the floor sheet. If you compare the Lada Granta with the Samara, which the liftback replaced in the AvtoVAZ model range, the body has become twice as rigid, and accordingly, the model has become safer.

There is enough space in the back seat for three passengers to feel quite comfortable. The only question is the space above your head. If your height is 190 cm or less, you will be comfortable, but taller passengers will find the car uncomfortable.
When conducting test drives of the Lada Granta liftback, many drivers noted that the combination of a powerful engine and relatively low weight (1070 kg) provides decent dynamics for an inexpensive car. The main thing is not to accelerate the car above 150 km/h, since handling and directional stability at top speeds are not at all impressive. About the advantages. I liked the appearance of the Lada Granta Hatchback, as well as the interior. It’s still quiet inside, it’s not even customary that this can happen in a Russian car (except for glass and gearbox on 1 and 2). A big plus is the chassis, it swallows everything, even tram rails go smoothly and are moderately hard. They write that electric power steering is bad, but they didn’t notice it on our Lada Granta Hatchback. It’s very warm, there are severe frosts in Siberia, we haven’t tried air conditioning yet. Up to -30 it starts with half a turn, we haven’t tried it again, so far it’s a pity for the motor. Beautiful dashboard, optics. The headlights are normal, no sweating. People complain about bad light, but our Lada Granta Hatchback is ordinary, like most cars, no better, but no worse. I liked the review, I sit high and look far away. High ground clearance, measured more than 200 mm - feel like a jeep. This is especially true in my village. The light after my (no longer mine) “Crown” is simply a delight - both low beam and high beam. And there is light in the cabin, bless you. The comfort of the Lada Granta Hatchback seats is lower than on the Crown. I've already gone through this, I'll fix it in the future with covers. Handling is no better or worse than on the crown, it’s just different. My favorite tires seem to hold the road well, they don’t drift when cornering, they haven’t blown away anywhere on the highway yet, but the feeling is not the same as on a Toyota. On the highway at 80-90 km/h it is quite possible to talk as usual or listen to music. I haven’t driven faster yet, I’m running the engine in. I definitely won’t install an additional Shumka, the standard one is quite enough for me. The standard radio is for discarding or modification. The radio reception is poor, and if it does, there is always some kind of interference.

I'm tired of looking for a used car, well, there's really only one piece of rubbish, you waste so much time and everything is fine with hidden jambs. There is no power steering - and at first it was very inconvenient, very heavy. The plastic rubbed with a grinding sound, and it was hard for my wife at first. I left the salon: the registration took a long time. I refueled for 1000 rubles, with current gasoline prices, the tank is far from full. I went to get winter tires since I bought the car on December 1st. The first evening I drove about 30 km around the city - it’s great, the pedals are unusual, they grind softly, they jump out of place - I’m getting used to it. On the second day: in the morning the lock froze, warmed it up, drove 10 km. The Lada Granta Hatchback was parked in the warm parking lot of a hypermarket, I approached, the lock did not open alone - it was jammed. Got upset. I went to the dealership and they replaced it, but now I have 2 different keys like on the old Zhiguli. The steering wheel became very light, 140 km - comfortable driving, I didn’t accelerate again, I’m a family guy, the ride is calm. The stove is hot, you’re traveling intercity at -24, the stove works on the 1st, sometimes you even make a crack in the window. There is, of course, a flaw about the windows: the glass is thin and when you slam it, they seem to shake slightly in the frame. And they made the floor upholstery very unpleasantly, it really sucks: thin, soft (incomprehensible burlap) that doesn’t fit tightly and presses hard around the back sofa. It so happened that, thanks to New Year’s discounts, I purchased a Lada Granta Hatchback for 320,000 rubles. in the most empty configuration, I’m glad that there is a car that can be bought for that kind of money and I’ll tell you - it’s very worthy. Now I’m planning to give it to my daughter for her 19th birthday; in a week this was not in the plans. But why not please her if there is an option to take a Lada Granta Hatchback below 400,000 rubles. take it, don't even think about it. But it’s not worth more than 400,000.

But what do you want from a car that is cheap by definition?
However, Granta owners can write a whole list of wishes and suggestions. For example, so that door handles work softer and more clearly, so that their mechanisms are more durable, as well as the regulators of the ventilation and heating systems. So that the interior seals are more effective, and the interior parts do not start rattling on rough roads a few years after purchase.
There are also complaints about the windshield wiper mechanism, as well as about the reliability of electrical equipment - all of this may require attention from the owner after 5-6 years of operation. It seems like there are little things that can be solved inexpensively, but it’s all nerves and time. However, some of the problems relate to cars from early years of production: it is believed that more recent copies look better in this regard.

The body's resistance to corrosion is at an average level. Granta frankly does not rot, but local pockets of corrosion on cars older than 3-5 years are quite possible, especially if the owner is in no hurry to repair chips, and the thin paintwork is quite sensitive to mechanical stress. Accordingly, the most vulnerable parts of the external body parts suffer: the edges of the hood and doors, the trunk lid, rear arches, and sills. Considering the low cost of the car itself, restoring a neglected body may simply not be economically feasible.

Yes, the car is equipped rather modestly, and yes, it has shortcomings. But at the same time, it is one of the cheapest offers on the new car market. Whether the price of the Lada Granta liftback is suitable or not - everyone will decide for themselves. The car certainly has its right to exist. The engineers initially wanted to make a “people’s” and affordable car, and they succeeded quite well.
It is guaranteed to appeal to those who want a new car, but do not want or cannot spend a lot of money on it. But if you take the richest package, then if you give up the automatic and a few little things, it will be only 50 thousand cheaper than the Volkswagen Polo, Kia Rio or Hyundai Solaris. These cars go much faster and generally look more expensive. And those who can look at the options for themselves on the used market will certainly be put off by the problems and shortcomings of the Lada Granta liftback.
Why is the Lada Granta hatchback superfluous among VAZ models? 3 reasons.
More recently, the entire Kalina family has sunk into the abyss of history. Instead, the hatchback and station wagon changed their “surname” and entered the Granta line, where there were only a sedan and a liftback.
In addition, all these cars received an updated appearance. In my opinion, quite controversial. But that's not so bad. I don’t understand at all what AvtoVAZ marketers are counting on by leaving the former Kalina hatchback on the assembly line, because even the obsolete Priora has much more attractive consumer qualities.
And I have 3 reasons why the Granta hatchback will fail in sales and is not needed at all in the brand’s model line:
1. She's scary
The “muzzle” from Vesta looks terrible on Kalina’s small body. Even intimidating, I would say. After all, it was possible to leave the previous version of the “front” design, which looked much nicer and more appropriate.

And so, it turns out that visually the car is divided into two parts. The “predatory” and voluminous front part is from the much larger Vesta, and the middle with the stern from the feminine and even cute Kalina.

3. Russia doesn't like hatchbacks

What can we say about poor hatchbacks, which are considered impractical in our country. And Kalina herself, already in the previous body, was of little interest to anyone.
