A list of recommended fluids for replacement is located at the end of the vehicle's owner's manual. It is recommended to fill the VAZ 2114 car with semi-synthetic with a viscosity of 10W-40. Which specific manufacturer to choose is a personal matter for the motorist. But it should be taken into account that you will have to pay a large amount for a promoted brand (after all, advertising costs a lot of money).

Tips for choosing oils for the VAZ-2114

The first oil change on a VAZ-2114 was always performed after break-in. And if we were talking about an authorized service, Rosneft products were poured into the engine - semi-synthetics with a viscosity of 5W-30.

For topping up, Rosneft Premium or Rosneft Maximum oil was recommended, but with a rating of 5W-40 or 10W-40.

When replacing, it is better to fill in the same thing, or rather, semi-synthetic “Maximum”.

You can go around the recommendations. But then the new oil must be used as a flushing oil: the system is refueled, then it is necessary to drive 30-50 km and perform a second change. The choice itself must be within the limits initially determined by AvtoVAZ:

API quality: SL, SM or SN;
Quality according to STO (RF): AAI-B5 or AAI-B6;
ACEA ash class: A3/B3 or A3/B4.

Viscosity is selected depending on the climate:

-40 – +30: 0W-40;
-40 – +25: 0W-30;
-30 – +25: 5W-30;
-30 – +35: 5W-40;
-25 – +25: 10W-30;
-25 – +35: 10W-40;
-20 – +45: 15W-40;
-15 – +45: 20W-40.

17mm wrench.

Draining used oil

The car is placed on the inspection hole. You will need to get under the bottom.
Run the engine for a short time to allow the lubricant to warm up. Due to this, it will drain out of the crankcase faster and more fully.
Open the filler cap located on the valve box. This will relieve pressure.
Now crawl under the car, taking the key number 17 with you.
It is advisable to choose a socket wrench, since the drain plugs are usually too tight. Using a spanner may cause you to lose edges. It is better not to allow this, since you will have to change the plug.
Place a container with a volume of about 5 liters at the bottom. Be careful not to let the leaking oil splash onto you. It is hot, plus not every wife will want to wash off oil stains, and not every washing machine will be able to.
After unscrewing the plug on the oil pan, let the oil drain into a prepared container. Do not rush to completely unscrew the plug. Turn it gradually until oil starts flowing. After this, feel free to remove it completely. It often falls into a container for collecting waste liquid. It's no big deal, it happens to many people. Getting it later will not be a problem.
Be careful during the first couple of hours, because due to a warm engine, the oil may not only be hot, but also come out under pressure.
The process of expressing the oil will take about 10 minutes. If you decide not to warm up the engine, then you will have to wait even longer.
Be sure to remove the old oil filter on the VAZ 2114, which is located at the rear on the passenger side. It is usually easily removed by hand, but sometimes it does not just give in. Use a special key.
When there is also no key to remove the filter, insert a screwdriver into the housing. Using it as a lever, the oil filter is eventually removed. But this is an extreme measure, which is still not recommended.
Make sure the old filter gasket comes out as well. If it remains in its seat, remove it. For a new filter, be sure to use a new gasket. They often come included.
About 100-200 milliliters of clean new oil are poured into the new filter, and the rubber gasket is also treated with lubricating fluid.
Insert it into its rightful place and tighten it. The filter is screwed on until the gasket comes into contact with the surface. After this, there is no need to make more than 3/4 of a turn. This installation option is enough for the filter to hold firmly.
Close the drain hole in the oil pan with a plug.
Perform flushing if necessary.

Filling with new oil

Head to the neck located on the valve box cover. That is, now you are working directly in the engine compartment. It's time to crawl out of the hole;
To make it more convenient to pour liquid into the engine from a container with oil, use a small funnel;
First fill in approximately 2.7 liters of oil;
Whether you add it or not can be checked using a dipstick;
Wait a while for the oil to settle;
Now take the dipstick and check the level. Optimally, the oil should be at a level between the Max and Min marks indicated on the dipstick. At the same time, many are interested in how much oil to pour into the VAZ 2114 engine. We will answer. This requires about 3.8 liters of lubricant. Plus you will need about 200 milliliters for the filter. Although some argue that 100 milliliters is enough;
The filler plug is closed;
After this, you must start the engine and let it run for a while. This will allow the new oil to distribute throughout the system;
Turn off the engine and let the car sit for a while;
Now check the level again with the dipstick. If necessary, add fluid to the optimal level;
You should not fill the entire canister at once, as this may be too much. It is not possible to get rid of all the old oil, because some will still remain inside. Consequently, this affects the total amount of new fluid being added;
Be sure to remove any drops of oil that remain on the engine. This must be done for security reasons.

How to check the level?

The volume of oil in the box, as mentioned earlier, is checked using a dipstick. It is located on the body and is accessible through the engine compartment. Correct level checking occurs in the following sequence:

We find the dipstick and remove it from the gearbox. Don't look at its value now, as the reading is most likely incorrect.
Wipe it with a lint-free cloth or rags. Completely remove the lubricant from the dipstick; it should be clean.
Then insert it back into place and wait a bit.
Remove the dipstick again and turn it to the side with the marks. The spot should be at the top mark maximum. If it is lower, then you need to add oil.

Approach the process of checking and replacing lubricants responsibly. If you delay this, trying to save money, you can damage the box. Since during operation the oil loses its properties and lubricates the mechanism worse than fresh. Accordingly, severe wear begins to occur on the gears, as they begin to rub against each other, creating chips. If this piece of metal gets between them, the box may jam. If the oil looks too dark and the time for replacement is approximately approaching, it is better to immediately address this issue. How often to change the oil

The frequency of changing engine oil in 2114 depends primarily on the operating conditions of the vehicle, the oil itself, and also on the mileage. If the engine has traveled more than 150 thousand km, we recommend replacing it every 10,000 km or even earlier. Some motorists change their oil even after 8,000 km. This way they extend the life of their car’s engine.

The oil filter must be changed at every oil change. The old used filter is disposed of; its re-installation is undesirable, since it has already exhausted its service life.

If you have just purchased a car, or do not know what kind of oil is filled in, we recommend that when changing the oil, you first fill in the flushing oil. The cost of flushing oil is about 400 rubles, and the flushing time is about 15 minutes. Very often, when flushing the engine, the flushing oil drains out black, which indicates oil deposits.
