Review of new AvtoVAZ models 2017-2018: technical specifications

Nowadays, cars of foreign brands are often found on Russian roads; of course, any modern foreign car looks prestigious and stylish, but it is not always possible to buy it at an affordable price. For a long time, the Russian automobile industry was hopelessly lagging behind in development and could not compete with foreign cars, and now, starting in 2015, Russian manufacturers have revived and began to offer fairly high-quality cars that are in no way inferior to their imported counterparts.

AvtoVAZ has been very pleased lately; it not only offers new models, but also improves the brands coming off the assembly line of the car plant. Volga residents have long-term plans for 2022 - the most powerful passenger car manufacturer in Russia promises to modernize six models of passenger cars and expand the range of cars with new products.

In the very near future (in 2018-2019), the following “fresh” Lada cars are expected to appear:

Vesta hatchback;
Kalina of the new generation in hatchback and station wagon bodies;
crossovers C-Cross and B-Cross.

The Lada Vesta sedan and X-ray hatchback have already been put into mass production; very soon the popular Largus will be restyled and the well-known legendary Niva SUV will be facelifted. All these models are still in some ways inferior to popular foreign cars, but these are no longer the old Soviet “TAZs”, and have moved far forward in terms of comfort, design, and equipment.

Lada Vesta - grace and original style

The Lada Vesta sedan is a compact passenger car with a very original design; it looks fresh and unusual, and is easy to recognize on the road in the general traffic. Main external differences of the model:

characteristic stampings on the sides of the body and hood;
stylish radiator grille that looks like a smile;
oblong teardrop-shaped headlights;
a somewhat unusual front bumper, a combination of two colors (one part seems to be a continuation of the radiator grille, the second is painted to match the body color).

The instruments on the panel have a pleasant pale green backlight, are informative and pleasing to the eye with their appearance. Buttons for controlling multimedia, climate control and heated steering wheel are located on the steering wheel, as befits a modern mid- and premium-level car. The interior is equipped with comfortable seats with lateral support, all windows are electrically driven, cars are produced with both a manual and a robotic gearbox. Vesta is equipped with 1.6 (106 horsepower) and 1.8 L (122 hp) engines, but it is expected that in the near future the 1.8-liter gasoline engine will be produced in three modifications:

122 l. With. – for cars with basic configuration;
164 l. With. – for the hatchback in the Sport version;
224 l. With. – turbocharged engine.

Direction of the company's activities

Interest in the expected new AvtoVAZ products was fueled by the company's president, Nicolas More, who recently, in an interview in Ust-Kamenogorsk, spoke about what new products among the Lada series of vehicles should be expected in the future. He said that the new models will feature an innovative X-design, they will all be improved in terms of quality characteristics, which will make them more popular among the population, but the cost of the vehicles will be quite affordable. In general, the company plans to release about eight new models over the next 10 years, so the new AvtoVAZ 2017-2018 products will be just the beginning, and further developments will need to be carefully monitored.

Previously, the domestic auto industry did not very often pamper citizens of the Russian Federation with updated models; often what had already been done earlier was modernized, but today the situation has changed and in 2022 the models described below will appear on the market.

Lada Vesta station wagon

This vehicle will have the appearance and functions of an all-terrain vehicle, and it will be released into the full market only by the end of 2022. The basis for creating the car will be the standard Vesta, so the technical characteristics will not change much. However, the company's president talks about increased ground clearance and a well-thought-out basic configuration that will allow Russians to save money. The cost of the model will start from approximately 800 thousand rubles. It is worth saying that, according to statistics, this model is in the lead in the series of the most anticipated new AvtoVAZ products in 2022.

Technical characteristics of Vesta

Lada Vesta is a small-class car built on the Lada B platform, the dimensions of the car are 4.41x1.76x1.5 m (length, width and height), the curb weight is 1230 kg, and the total weight of the car is 1670 kg. Vesta is equipped with front-wheel drive, all-round disc brakes in the “Sport” version and rear drum brakes as standard. It is distinctive that the car body is galvanized, and electric power steering is provided for easier and more comfortable control.

Gasoline engine 122 l. With. (1.8 l) - in-line 4-cylinder, 16-valve, both manual and robotic transmission - five-speed. The internal combustion engine accelerates to a speed of 186 km/h and reaches “hundreds” in 12.1 seconds. The maximum configuration of the sedan includes the following options:

HHC, ASR, ESP, EBA, EBD, ABS systems;
alloy wheels R16;
two airbags (the passenger airbag can be switched off);
steering column tilt/reach adjustment;
rear parking sensors;
electric windows;
heated electric mirrors;
air conditioner;
heated windshield/front seats;
athermal glazing;
audio system with CD-Player and MP3 support (4 speakers installed);
Bluetooth;
trip computer;
factory alarm;
immobilizer;
Key fob controlled central locking.

The car is equipped with a small-sized trailer, the external door handles and mirrors are painted in body color.

Competitors of Lada Priora 2022 in a new body

When choosing a new car, you should not forget about competitors, who often have similar or superior characteristics. For Priora, the main competitors will be the following car models:

Lada Vesta.
Lada Granta.
Lada Kalina.

Among foreign models, there will most likely not be many competitors, since they belong to a different price category or are significantly superior to the Priora in terms of technical equipment. The closest competitors may be the following machines:

Renault Logan.
Hyundai Solaris.

The Priora will perform well both in the city and on the highway thanks to the improved suspension and updated electronics.

The first serial AvtoVAZ crossover

Lada XRAY is a stylish compact crossover, a new product from AvtoVAZ at the end of 2015, in some publications it is listed as a tall SUV-style hatchback. Some people think that the car’s exterior is copied from a foreign car, but it’s difficult to say which one exactly. In any case, the Lada X-ray looks fresh and not “washed out”, it stands out:

pronounced stampings on the front and rear fenders of the body;
a raised hood narrowed at the front;
nice headlights with LEDs already in the basic version;
original pattern of alloy wheels.

The interior of the VAZ crossover is in many ways reminiscent of the Lada Vesta, but the interior here seems more spacious due to the high ceiling, and there is additional headroom. The trim levels with the Lada Vesta also have a lot in common, although, unlike the sedan, the X-Ray is characterized by richer equipment and thoughtfulness in all details, in particular:

the fabric upholstery of the seats is complemented by leatherette inserts, the three-color upholstery looks quite impressive;
instead of a standard air conditioner, a more functional climate control is installed;
buttons on the steering wheel allow you to control not only the audio system, but also your mobile phone;
The multimedia screen is seven inches, the rear view camera turns on on the screen automatically when the car is moving in reverse, there is a navigator.

The line of X-ray engines and transmission are the same as that of Vesta, but the crossover, due to better aerodynamics, can accelerate faster; with a robotic gearbox and a 122 horsepower engine, it reaches a speed of 100 km per hour in 10.9 seconds. The trunk of the Lada XRay is medium in size (361 l), it cannot be called large, but it is not miniature either. With the seat backs folded, the volume of the luggage compartment increases to 1207 liters, which is quite enough to transport fairly large cargo.

LADA Vesta Cross

Another new AvtoVAZ 2022 product based on Vesta. We'll immediately disappoint potential owners - there will be no all-wheel drive. But the high ground clearance and durable body kit made of unpainted plastic will help during forays into nature.

There are arch extensions installed around the wheel arches, which will protect the varnished sides from small pebbles and dirt. Moreover, the standard wheels have become larger - the size of the stock rims has been increased to 17 inches, while maintaining the profile.
The raised suspension received off-road settings, and the travel of the levers was increased. But the steering wheel, on the contrary, was made sharper: the revolutions from lock to lock are 2.8.
To make the crossover stand out on the road, the designers added several new colors.
The salon has also undergone changes. Stylish orange inserts appeared on the interior panels. The same elements (made of genuine leather) are added to the seat upholstery. In addition, there is a bright contrasting thread on the steering wheel braid and seats.
A box armrest has been added between the front seats.

New version of Lada Niva 4x4

AvtoVAZ is preparing to release a new version of the Niva 4x4 SUV; whether it will be a completely different car or a deeply restyled version of the old model is difficult to say. But outwardly the car will look different in any case:

the car will take on a more streamlined shape;
optics, bumpers, radiator grille will change;
It is possible to install a six-speed manual transmission from Renault on the car.

Despite the modernization, it is unlikely that the new Niva will look very modern; most likely, the car will look like a foreign-made SUV from the early 2000s. It is planned to produce three-door and five-door versions; the car can be equipped with air conditioning, electric mirrors, and 16 alloy wheels.

The manufacturer promises to improve sound insulation, make the interior more spacious, and increase trunk volume. The model should be launched into series at the end of 2017/beginning of 2018, but the timing may be shifted.

Crossover VAZ C-class

This C-class crossover has a production name - Lada C-Cross. And they assure that the car will not become the successor to the Niva, about which there were previously many rumors and guesses.

The price, of course, is not named, but we can only assume that it will be identical to the cost of the Niva in the latest generation. At the current time, the development of the Lada C-Class car is at the concept and preliminary testing stage.

One can only guess that it will be an elegant car on the outside and beautifully decorated inside. It is also quite possible that it will be equipped with a dashboard consisting of a huge set of auxiliary control systems, which will greatly facilitate the driver’s work while driving.

Restyled model of Lada Granta

Granta appeared on the Russian market at the end of 2011, at first the Volzhsky plant produced only sedans, later the production of passenger cars in the liftback body was launched. The popular car has not yet undergone major modernization; restyling of the model is scheduled for the last months of 2022. Traditionally, the modernization will first affect the external body elements:

bumpers;
radiator grilles;
rear lights and headlights.

Most likely, the front optics will be larger, the shape of the trunk and roof will also change, and changes will also affect the interior. AvtoVAZ is going to present a restyled version of Granta at the beginning of 2018, but whether both bodies (sedan and liftback) will be modernized is still unknown.

Currently, in addition to the above-mentioned bodies, a modification of the Granta Sport, created on the basis of the sedan, is also produced. The Lada Granta model is equipped with 1.6 liter engines in three versions (87/98/106 hp), and the transmission is also available in three types:

five-speed “mechanics”;
four-speed automatic;
robotic gearbox-5.

The basic configuration includes only one airbag (in the steering wheel), active safety systems ABS, EBD and EBA, an immobilizer, a radio tape recorder, and R13 steel wheels are installed. In “charged” versions, the car is additionally equipped with ESP and ASR, 15 alloy wheels, cruise control, heated mirrors/front seats/windshield, rear parking sensors, electric mirrors, electric windows, on-board computer, multimedia system, alarm system.

LADA XCODE

Today it is only a concept. But given the speed at which AvtoVAZ introduces new models, the production model may well appear in 2022.

Stylistically, the crossover continues the XRAY line. However, this is a completely new body and line of engines. It is planned to “implant” a turbocharged heart and a new automatic machine. But the main positive news is all-wheel drive (this is the reason for its absence on the VESTA-XRAY series crossovers).

The body received a coupe-shaped profile in the style of Infiniti FX. Perhaps the luggage compartment will be smaller - the rear overhang is clearly shorter than that of the XRAY. Judging by the design of the concept, the new Nissan Juke is taken as the basis. Of course, no plagiarism within the corporation, but trends can be traced.
In addition to the fresh design, the crossover will receive a whole range of active driver assistance systems. Adaptive cruise control with emergency braking before an obstacle, automatic parking, remote control of the car.

All this will happen, we just have to wait a little over a year.

Restyling Lada Largus 2022

The first Lada Largus cars rolled off the assembly line in the summer of 2011, but VAZ began mass production only in April 2012. The model is a version of the Dacia Logan MCV adapted to Russian conditions; on the Russian market it is available in a station wagon body.

Largus is produced in five-seater and seven-seater versions; a two-seater van is also produced, more intended for commercial purposes. Russians love the car for its practicality, spacious interior and simply huge trunk; Largus is often positioned as a family car. The main characteristic differences of this car:

unpainted plastic bumpers;
roof rails;
dull, unobtrusive design.

The main configurations of this model are “Standard”, “Norma” (also in Climate and Comfort modifications), “Luxury”, the car cannot boast of an abundance of additional options, but it has everything you need even in the basic version. The standard version of Largus is equipped with a 5-seater cabin; options include a driver's airbag, ABS and EBD systems, an immobilizer and a radio.

The VAZ car is equipped with two types of 1.6 L engines:

8-valve injection engine 87 hp. With.;
16-valve internal combustion engine 102 l. With.

There is only one type of transmission here - a 5-speed manual transmission, the car complies with Euro-4 standards, and is fueled with 92-grade gasoline. The station wagon's spare wheel is full-size; the steering column can only be adjusted for tilt. There is also a modification of Largus Cross, this version differs from the base model in increased ground clearance by 25 mm, wheels and rims (R16 instead of R15).

There is still no exact information about the restyling of Largus; presumably AvtoVAZ is going to carry out a facelift of the station wagon closer to the beginning of 2022. But for now, the Lada Largus is sold quite well in Russia and is one of the best-selling cars in the Russian Federation.

LADA XRAY Cross

A similar situation - despite the remarkable external and internal design changes, the engineers did not find the opportunity to install a rear wheel coupling from the Renault Duster. Let's hope that the first restyling will change the situation.

Otherwise, the picture is the same as in Vesta Cross: a chic body kit with logos, an updated interior, new large wheels.

The raised ground clearance significantly increases off-road capabilities. And in the city you can safely park on curbs.

Advantages of Russian-made cars

We will not talk about the shortcomings of Russian cars; it is clear that at least a few more steps need to be taken to reach the world level. But the main path of bringing Russian cars up to European and Japanese levels has already been passed - Russian cars began to look modern and be equipped with many additional options. Now all that remains is to develop in the right direction, to solve the quality problem, since defects are still quite common on domestically produced machines. And about AvtoVAZ cars, we can say that they have several important advantages for Russians:

low price of the car and spare parts for it;
availability of parts and consumables in auto stores;
high maintainability;
availability of service and maintenance;
adaptability to Russian conditions.

On average, all new models produced by VAZ are 15-20% cheaper than their foreign counterparts, and if a car breaks down, it is not difficult to repair it; relatively inexpensive spare parts are almost always available. And in the future AvtoVAZ will probably offer new interesting models, but for now information about many new products is kept secret.

VAZ C-class sedan

This is Lada C, as insiders call it. The price of the car has not yet been announced, while there is no way to guess it at least approximately. Perhaps it will not cross the 1 million ruble mark, which many car enthusiasts would like to see.

The basis for the C-class sedan will be the 2180 platform. Again, insiders learned that AvtoVAZ is indeed comparing its future new product with the Ford Focus model. The engineers and designers of the Russian manufacturer largely count on a huge response from drivers and that their fans will truly appreciate the efforts of the VAZ team in the process of creating the Russian Focus.
