What tires to put on Niva 2121 21214 2131 in winter: the best options

Of course, Niva 2121 has already become a classic of the Russian automobile industry. But it’s too early to write this car off. Even in our time, this car remains the optimal combination of price and quality for our road, or more precisely, off-road, conditions. And the more optimally you choose “mud bast shoes” for the Niva, the better it will “trample” our Russian off-road terrain with them.

M/T tires

Classic mud tires, have a large tread pattern, lateral lugs, and are soft enough to handle off-road use. Designed for use when you ride 80 percent of the way on dirt and only 20 percent on the highway. It wears out very quickly when driving on asphalt.

A budget-class model of domestic production, the price of which starts from 3,700 rubles. Installation does not require adjusting the arches to the tire size. This “mudovka” is not inferior to many foreign analogues, and is ideal for a beginner SUV. Quite suitable for winter: very soft in the cold and loves snow. It does not tolerate ice and summer asphalt well: it is almost uncontrollable on both surfaces. There is one dimension - 235/75 R15 (about 29 inches), so here you either cut the arches (but without a lift), or make a minimal lift, but without interfering with the body.

Cordiant off Road

A worthy version of the domestic “mudokha”. Suitable for use on asphalt and off-road. It flattens well in any swamp. It is an alternative to Goodrich at a price of about 4,000 rubles. Tolerates asphalt surfaces well. For such tires, it makes sense to “lift” your Niva a little. Thanks to this, it will be possible to “shod” the car in size 225/75 R16. This alone will increase the clearance by almost 3 cm.

Hankook Dynapro MT RT03

Another successful “mudokha”. It has won trust and respect among off-road fans. It will cost 4,500 rubles in size 235/75 R15. This size will not fit on the Niva without a 5 cm mini-lift. The best option for those who do not often go out to knead “shit”. It wears out little on asphalt and cleans well off-road. It floats a little on clay, but not much. Equipped with holes for studding. Very soft, squishes perfectly. In general, excellent M/T tires, no worse than Goodrich, but cheaper.

Kumho Road Venture mt kl71

A tire with a pronounced aggressive tread. In the size for a small lift with spacers and springs from Shevik 235/75 R15 (28.9 inches in American) it will cost about 5,800. If you don’t want to lift, then you can just cut the arches)) A more serious option. Suitable for professional riding on obvious off-road conditions. It has good self-cleaning even in clay “shit”, the tread is very large with a decent distance between the blocks. You can safely bleed up to 1 atmosphere. Moderately soft. The sidewalls cling well, there are side lugs. Not suitable for normal travel: the asphalt quickly “eats” the tread. Ideal for 80 percent off-road/20 percent hard surface travel.

BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2

It is the standard of real mud tires. It's expensive, but it's "worth it." For the native version of the Niva, size 215/75 R15 (costs 5200) is suitable. And for pumped-up Nivas there will be just the size 30 x 9.50 R15 (240/80 R15) costing 7100 rubles. Rubber is a universal mud. It will be “in time” for both a professional and an ordinary fisherman. Asphalt doesn't eat it. It flattens to the limit (some vented to 0.5 atmosphere). Very durable. Damage to the top layers does not affect the overall integrity. It can only “get washed out” on “plasticine” clay. Then the tread becomes completely clogged. It cleans itself decently, because the protector is quite large. In general, Boris Fedorovich (as BF jeepers are affectionately called) is a decent tire, but expensive. Therefore, you can always find a cheaper alternative. But if you don’t want to save money, then Goodrich would be a good choice.

Federal Couragia m/t

- the most muddy of all the rubber presented, the tread is close to extreme. It has everything - side lugs and large self-cleaning blocks. The rubber is very soft, so it flops perfectly on liquid mud. For a Nivovod, the dream would be size 205/80/R16, costing 4200 per cylinder (28.9 inches), so Nivko will have to prepare it - lift or cut the arches. very cool tires for dirt, the only negative is that they wear out quickly on asphalt, if you use 60/40 city/dirt, then 40 thousand will be enough. Not enough, considering that the tires are not cheap.

Extreme tires

Most often used on large SUVs, because the size range of most models starts from 29-31 inches. Nivovoda fans also install 31″ tires, having seriously modified the car beforehand. Extreme tires have a very large tread pattern, powerful lugs for driving out of ruts, are very soft and are absolutely not intended for driving on the highway.

Simex Extreme/Jungle Trekker

For such an off-road vehicle, it is better to “pump” your Niva properly - there is a lift and cutting of arches, replacement of pairs and multiple modifications to the car, there is no other way. In dimensions 32 x 9.5 R15 will cost 12 thousand. Expensive, but for those who decide on such tires, this is nothing, their life is off-road.

Professional model of sports off-road “slippers”. Most of all he loves clay batches. Has a high degree of tread self-cleaning. Has a directional off-road pattern. Suitable for slow driving on regular roads. To increase tenacity due to the sidewalls, the air is vented to the atmosphere. Perhaps the most famous extreme tires, which are suitable for all SUVs. Most often, of course, they bet on the UAZ, but for Nivovodov nothing is impossible. Nivko looks really menacing on such wheels.

Forward Safari 500

Domestic analogue of the previous Simex, only 2.5 times cheaper. You'll have to lift it underneath it anyway. The minimum size for Niva is 235/75R15, costing 4,900 rubles. requires installation of spacers. Or up to 29″ you can limit yourself to sharp arches, because not everyone likes and considers it right to make an elevator. Cutting the arches is the lesser evil, so to speak. oak rubber. Many people prefer it to Simex. Heavy, self-cleaning well. Poorly balanced and too noisy on asphalt. But on any off-road it rows perfectly. Doesn't like ruts. It holds course well on a normal road and wears out slowly. We can conclude that if you want to go extreme, but don’t have the money to pay 10k for a bottle of extreme tires, then take Safari - it’s quite an option, certainly better than any M/T tire.

Silverstone MT-117 XTREME

In dimensions 31 x 10.5 R16 costs 11,500 rubles. For the cornfield you need a lift and cutting arches. Suitable for any off-road use. It holds its course well and does not get washed out on clay. It has a durable sidewall with a large pattern. Six row cord. And of course, the strongly protruding side lugs allow you to get out of the rut. The tread pattern shows that it is very similar to the Simax (which is its ancestor). Almost unsuitable for highway driving. Poorly balanced. On normal roads it hums and wears out a lot. Pure mud extreme tires, very soft and very toothy.

Not long ago, my friend bought himself a used Niva, there was a little money left and since the tires were complete crap (some kind of road Kama), he asked my friend if there were normal tires for the Niva in the size 16″. Because that car had standard 16″ Nivov wheels, and it was expensive to buy an additional set of wheels. In general, the essence of the issue is clear - to choose normal mud tires for the Niva in the 16th radius.

I started digging, no, of course I knew that there was practically no choice for 16″, but at least there should be something? However, as it turned out, there is nothing. Or rather, there is, but very little. I found only a few decent samples. Let's look at the sizes:

The optimal size for a Niva, acceptable ground clearance, a car with mud wheels of this size shows off its off-road capabilities well. I would even say it’s stupid to put wheels smaller than these on Nivko. What's the point of buying Nyvka then?

Cordiant Offroad

A classic of the genre, available in size 215/65/R16, the Niva is the fire. Most breeders immediately install Cords and don’t worry. It paddles perfectly in the mud, but the tires are heavy and ride on them like wooden donuts on the highway. It seems to me that this size is the best option for summer use on the Niva. The tires are declared as all-season, but I beg you, you should not drive them in winter or even late autumn, when frosts begin.

Contyre Expedition

They are also available in Niv size 215/65/16, they cost the same as Cordas, but there are more advantages here - the tires are soft, comfortable, you can drive even in winter. They also handle dirt well (the tread pattern matches the cords). Well, the most important plus is that the tires are lighter than Cordov, and therefore, if you cut the arches on the Niva, you can put a super cool size of 235/75/R15, but then you will need to buy a set of 15″ wheels. Our task is to select 16-diameter wheels.

Well, that’s probably all, comrades)) I didn’t find anything worthy in size 215/65/16. I had to play with the width and profile and managed to find a few more normal Niv options.

The tire is narrower, the profile is larger. For SUVs in general, the larger the profile, the better. The increase in ground clearance compared to the 215s is only 0.3 cm. Essentially, it’s the same thing.

In terms of the number of tires installed on Nivas in this size, the leader is Kama Flame (pictured). There is no question here - many consider it optimal, but the tread pattern is not MT, but only AT, and such “sneakers” can only be driven on mild off-road conditions. The tires are declared as winter tires and I have seen many Nivas on such tires in winter, but here you also need to have a clear head and drive carefully in winter, the driver must have some skills to drive on such tires in winter.

An even narrower tire with an even higher profile. The increase in ground clearance compared to the 215s is decent - 1.6 cm. It is likely that it will catch on the overhangs, so a minimum lift or cutting the arches to a minimum. These tires will be excellent at digging through dirt to get to a hard area. However, such “sneakers” bury themselves better and can do a disservice - they will land cars on bridges. In this size, our Kirov tires K-139 are simply superb. Photo:

The tires are narrower, but not critical. An aggressive tread that can also be cut (many people do this to further increase the Nyvka’s cross-country ability).

205/80/R16 — almost 29″

Next, let's take an even larger size, this is for prepared Nivas, on which either the arches have been cut or a lift has been made. In inches it is 28.9″, almost 29″. There are already decent mud options in these sizes. The increase in ground clearance will be real - plus 2.4 cm; the diameter of the wheel compared to the standard 215/65/16 will be almost 5 cm larger:

Federal Kuraga

Very angry, aggressive sneakers with excellent cross-country ability. But they are not cheap; for many new owners this will be a stumbling block. Yes, and the car will still have to be modified. The tires are very soft and quickly sharpen on asphalt. But off-road it’s just super. I don’t remember, some year the team on the UAZ won a trophy competition on these tires. This alone suggests that Kuraga is an excellent choice for mud. It’s most likely impossible to find Federals in this size)) At least I haven’t seen a single field on such tires))

Kumho Road Venture MT KL71

Also available in 29″ size and for 16″ wheels. The favorite slippers of Niva Chevrolet drivers and, of course, Nivovodov. Toothed tread, excellent self-cleaning ability, flattens well off-road. However, most often such slippers are placed on 15″ wheels, so it will be difficult to find them in size 16. Well, the price tag here is decent, and even taking into account the dollar exchange rate in general.

This applies to summer and all-season tires. There is very little choice, and practically none in sizes 205/70/R16 and 215/65/R16; all that is available is what I listed above. Well, at least there are decent winter tires in these sizes. However, with the summer one it’s just a disaster.

The last sizes in the review are very unpopular, so you probably won't be able to find mud tires in these sizes. So you have two options - see below:

In general, conclusions have been drawn and I advised my friend, if he wants to drive a Niva in the summer in the places for which it was intended, to buy 15″ wheels; here the choice of excellent mud tires is simply huge. Well, or ride a Cordach or Contyre Expedition in size 16. I hope our research will be useful to you and you will make the right choice.

The well-known VAZ-2121 Niva car has managed to establish itself as one of the most popular SUVs, characterized by an excellent price/quality ratio and high off-road performance.

And Niva owners often face difficulties in selecting the appropriate tires, because the car is bought mainly for driving in difficult terrain, and the all-season tires installed by the manufacturer are not at all suitable for such harsh conditions.

Niva and dirt - romance

It is very important to approach the choice of tires with caution, because not every model can be installed on a car without appropriate modifications and lifting, so you cannot do without knowledge of tire markings and what sizes can be installed, both with and without lifting. Let's start with the fact that the standard tire size is 175/80 R16 and 185/75 R16

, and most VAZ-2121 owners switch from 16-wheel drive to 15-wheel drive, because there are quite a lot of choices, especially models with an aggressive tread for off-road driving.

A few links on the topic for reference:

What tire sizes are installed on the Niva?

A wide number of modifications of the Niva car are usually equipped with one type of tire: 185/75 R16.
The standard size provides the necessary cross-country ability and acceleration of the vehicle on different road surfaces. Users prefer to replace their original wheels with similar ones of different dimensions, arguing that the action is due to improved driving characteristics and design. For such purposes, the plant provides information on the tolerances of tires suitable for Niva without modification of the suspension or body:

  • 175/80 R16;
  • 205/70 or 75 R16;
  • 215/65 R16;
  • 195/75 R15;
  • 205/70 R15;
  • 215/70 R15.

The manufacturer limited the maximum wheel width to 215 mm. The size is set justifiably. Since the car belongs to the off-road class, installing larger ramps can greatly reduce cross-country ability, increase the load on the hub units and increase fuel consumption.

For the very first version of the Niva, the plant recommends using 175/80 R16 tires. The narrow version of the tires provides the best traction in mud and easily copes with snow. Increasing the tread width leads to improved appearance, but entails a decrease in vehicle performance. Due to the design features of the chassis, the car clings worse to slippery areas and floats on clay.

Acceptable wheel sizes:

  • 205/70 or 75 R16;
  • 215/65 R16;
  • 195/75 R15;
  • 205/70 R15.

Also, some car enthusiasts install tires up to 225 or even 235 profile. This is possible by replacing standard wheels with modifications with a larger offset.

At the same time, some car enthusiasts insist on compatibility with 235/75 R15 tires. The only caveat is the purchase of rims of non-standard size and design.

Users often choose off-road models as the best tires for the 21213 modification. The asphalt version is not very common due to the car being used 80% in rural areas or for hunting and fishing, where there are no quality roads at all.

According to the tolerances, everything is standard here. The car comes off the assembly line with tires of 175/80 diameter 16. According to manufacturers, users give preference to popular brands:

  • Rossava;
  • Belshina;
  • Michelin;
  • TOYO;
  • Nokian.

At the factory, the modified Niva is equipped with domestically produced tires in size 175/80 P16. Thanks to the modernized suspension, the car has improved cornering stability and increased reliability of shock absorber mounting. In terms of acceptable standard sizes, everything is standard, tires are interchangeable with similar cars. Among the assortment, buyers often use offers from companies:

  • Goodyear;
  • Yokohama;
  • Sailong;
  • Landstyle;
  • Firestone.

According to the Niva car service manual, it is possible to install 5 types of wheels on the front and rear axles without modifications:

  • 175/80 R16;
  • 185/75 R16;
  • 205/70 R16;
  • 225/55 R16;
  • 215/65 R16.

If necessary, it is possible to install different tires on the car. However, traffic regulations limit such procedures and prohibit some variations.

  1. Installation of tires with different treads on one axle.
  2. Differences in wheel diameter or width.

Winter wheels must not only cope with difficult conditions of icy or snowy roads, but also be suitable for the standard size of the car. The design of the Chevrolet Niva allows you to install tires with diameters of 15 or 16 inches. At the same time, such standard sizes as 195/70, 205/75, 205/70 or 185/75 are suitable without lifting.

Despite the fact that the manufacturer in its recommendations gives preference to 16-inch wheels, it still allows for the possibility of installing products designed for R15 wheels, which can be found more often on the market. The most suitable sizes with this diameter are 195/70/R15, 205/75/R15 and 205/70/R15. In them, manufacturers offer a fairly large number of models to choose from at not very high prices.

It is worth highlighting the following products with spikes:

  • Amtel NordMaster;
  • Viatti Vettore Inverno;
  • Kumho WinterCraft ice;
  • Cordiant SnowCross.
  • Nexen Winguard WinSpike;
  • Matador MP 30;
  • Jislevd NordFrost 100;
  • Yokohama F700Z;
  • Yokohama IceGuard IG35;

Tires with treads without studs, designed for winter roads, are also presented:

  • Toyo Observe Gsi-5;
  • Tunga Nordway;
  • Viatti Vettore Brina;
  • Kumho KW 7400;
  • Nexen Winguard ice;
  • Yokohama IceGuard IG 30;
  • Sava Eskimo Ice;
  • Nokian Nordman RS;
  • Dunlop Graspic DS3.

In addition to these models from the budget and mid-price segments, manufacturers are able to offer car owners a fairly large list of specialized wheels at a more expensive price.

The poorest selection of tires is for size 205/75/R15, which, at the same time, is indicated by the manufacturer as a standard option. In fact, the domestic brand Cordiant is a monopolist in this segment. Its wheels are inexpensive, but still many Niva owners prefer to replace them with something else.

Exactly 16 inches is the standard radius or, more precisely, diameter for Chevrolet Niva tires. The manufacturer installs the standard size 185/75/R16 on the car. The problem with such tires is that they are both narrow and high, so companies do not often undertake the production of such models, especially in the winter version.

Most wheels for the cold season with these sizes are made with studs. They are also the most popular among SUV owners in general. The stock option for the Chevrolet Niva is Voltyre VLI-5 and VLI-10 - they are inexpensive and easily accessible. But they do not have the best driving characteristics. Because of the latter, most car owners strive to replace them with something else at the first opportunity.

Among the popular studded substitutes, there are the following models that fully comply with the instructions of the Niva manufacturer:

  • Amtel K182A Seven Hills;
  • Nordman Nordman 4;
  • Cordiant Business;
  • Good Year Cargo Ultra Grip;
  • Jisleivd NordFrost Van;
  • Michelin Agilis X-ice North;
  • Nokian Hakkapeliita.

Since studded tires are not always needed, models without studs on the tread are also available on the market:

  • Rosava LTW;
  • Amtel Seven Hills;
  • Viatti Vettore Brina;
  • Nokian WRC3;
  • BelShina Bravado;
  • Kama Euro 519;
  • Hankook Winter Ipike;
  • Tigar Cargo Speed;
  • Yokohama W.Drive;
  • Continental VanContact.

The budget category of the listed products includes those produced by the Russian brands Cordiant, Kama and Amtel, as well as the Belarusian BelShina and the Ukrainian Rosava. The increased price of most of these tires is one of the main reasons why car owners prefer 15-inch ones. There is simply more choice of the latter at an affordable price. There will also be a larger assortment in other price categories.

The manufacturer installs tires of a strictly regulated size on the Niva model. By default, the wheels here are sized 185/75/R16. These are the wheels that are relevant for Niva 2121/2131 or 4x4 models. Depending on operating conditions and driver preferences, the manufacturer allows the installation of tires of a different radius or size.

Many people abandon R16 wheels in favor of 15 rollers to improve ride smoothness and reduce noise. The most popular non-standard sizes are 185/75/R16, 205/70/R15 or 205/70/R16.

You need to understand that not only the appearance, but also the handling of the car, as well as other characteristics, depend on the size of the tires. The 205/70/R16 tire has a nicer design, but will perform worse when driving off-road than 205/75/R15 rollers. Below is a table that gives an idea of changes in the behavior of the car depending on the type of shoe (15th or 16th wheels).

Profile height

The height of the rubber profile affects the comfort, rigidity, reliability of the car and the load.

Increasing the height makes the car more comfortable and softer, and increases the landing position. But when the permissible height is exceeded, controllability deteriorates, braking distance increases, fuel consumption increases, and additional load appears on the vehicle’s chassis.

Reducing the profile height improves the car's handling, but the car becomes stiffer and the ride less comfortable. In addition, the risk of puncture increases.

Which tires are best for the winter for the Chevrolet Niva

Since Niva cars come from the factory by default only with all-season tires K 156-1 from the Kirov Tire Plant, the question of alternatives arises. Many Niva drivers prefer to choose the best rollers for the conditions in which their SUV will be used. Therefore, if you want to replace the standard with more suitable tires, advice will not be superfluous due to the abundance of choice and prices of such products.

When looking for all-season tires, you should pay attention to the following criteria:

  • weather conditions of product operation;
  • temperature regime;
  • presence of precipitation;
  • road conditions;
  • using the machine for heavy loads.

We will not take into account driving speeds; an SUV is not a sports car.

For the eldest of the Niv 2121 family, lighter tires are preferable due to lower power. Niva 21213 is equipped with a more powerful engine and a 5-speed gearbox. Larger sneakers are suitable for it - 205/70/R15, or Kama 232. The differences between 2121 and 2131 are that the latter has an injector and 21213 from 21214 too. This will not significantly affect the choice of shoes.

The best choice would be studded tires. The Niva is an SUV with a short wheelbase and therefore skids easily. In this case, the spikes will provide the necessary grip on the road. In addition, spikes will be the best choice for moving on snowy surfaces.

The disc bolt pattern is as follows: 5×139.7, offset - ET 40, width - 6.5 J, centering hole - CO 98.6

If necessary, on a classic Lada 4x4 you can use wheels from a Chevrolet Niva. They have the same wheel bolt pattern, so there will be no problems installing such rims. But such a modernization will allow the use of wheels with different offset and width parameters.

Voltyre VLI5 or VLI10. The most affordable types of tires. They are only suitable if you need to skate for one season, but you don’t want to spend too much money.

Kama 511. According to test results, it shows good grip on snow. The rubber is Russian-made, but despite this it is not entirely suitable for mud, as it tends to dig in.

Kama Flame. Designed specifically for SUVs with a short wheelbase. The low cost makes it attractive to motorists, but numerous reviews mostly describe the stud fastening negatively. At the same time, this model has a good resource that allows you to skate several seasons on them.

Kumho Road Venture. These tires show good results in all types of tests, but at the same time their cost is quite high, and the purchase can hit your pocket quite hard.

Nokian Hakkapelitte SUV. The SUV tire line is designed specifically for SUVs. The main differences are a low speed index, but at the same time a high load capacity. The experience of the Finnish company has made it possible to create tires with good grip, which contributes to excellent handling.

Cooper Discoverer M S. Tires in the mid-price segment. They are good for their versatility - they show good qualities both on ice and on snow cover and mud.

Hankook Winter i-Pike W409. This tire is not entirely suitable for the Niva, since the standard tire width is 205 millimeters. However, installation of this type of tire is possible.

Bridgestone WD-10 Winter Dueler. Quite a popular option due to its price/quality characteristics. Drivers using Bridgestone note good grip on the road: both on asphalt and on ice.

It is important to remember that no good winter tires for Niva can guarantee one hundred percent safety on the road. It is necessary to adjust the specifics of driving and be prepared for emergency situations.

When choosing tires, you need to pay attention to technical parameters: speed and maximum load index, as well as diameter and width.

When choosing the best model of winter tires, you should pay attention to the following most popular offers from domestic and foreign manufacturers:

  • Cordiant Polar SL;
  • Kumho Izen KW22;
  • Bridgstone Ice Cruiser 7000;
  • Nordman Nordman 4;
  • Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7.

The first model belongs to the budget studless category. It is popular due to its low cost, not exceeding 4.5 thousand rubles, and decent driving performance. According to the owners' reviews, it is able to cope with both the snow porridge that forms on domestic roads in winter and the icy surface of the highway.

Rubber exhibits its best performance at temperatures below -5. Therefore, it is not suitable for transitional seasons and regions where such low temperatures are too rare.

Tires from the well-known budget brand Kumho are already studded, which makes them a particularly good solution for icy roads in winter. At a price two times lower than well-known foreign brands, they are not much inferior to them in terms of driving performance.

The cost of tires differs depending on the size and ranges from 3500-4500 rubles. There are both 15 and 16 inch products. Despite good stability on ice, owners note such disadvantages of rubber as noise and a high frequency of studs falling out of the tread.

The second disadvantage is reduced by minimizing movement on an asphalt-covered surface. But still, the total loss of studs per season will be up to 20 percent versus 5 for more expensive brands.

The cost of Bridgestone Ice Cruiser 7000 wheels already ranges from 4 to 7 thousand rubles, so they are classified in the middle price segment. The brand produces studded winter tires, which for the most part receive only praise.

A distinctive feature of this option is its lower noise level compared to the competitor described above. It performs best on an icy road, while on a snowy track it is inferior to some other models. In terms of the overall combination of ride quality on different surfaces and price, it is one of the most popular options among Niva Chevy owners. A higher price also means increased reliability of the studs. During the season, no more than 10% of their total number flies out.

Also interesting: Chevrolet Niva fan does not turn on

Nordman Nordman 4 is a real legend among the mid-priced ones. This tire has earned special appreciation from car owners, because at a reasonable price it was able to compete with the best winter tire options on the market.

For the Chevrolet Niva, the standard size 215/65R16 is suitable, the cost of which is about five thousand. One of the main advantages is that the material is quite soft and not prone to hardening. Another plus is the low noise level. Although the wheels are inferior in this indicator to representatives of the premium segment, they undoubtedly occupy a place among the best in their price category.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 is one of the most popular tires in the expensive segment for the cold season in our country. It is specially designed for the cold northern climate with its snowfall and ice. The Finnish brand can boast of winning many tests from reputable automotive publications. As for the price, for the required standard sizes it is about seven thousand rubles.

For the city

The main choice that Niva owners face in urban conditions in winter is whether to install studs or Velcro. The first option is suitable for populated areas where snow removal is not carried out often enough and ice forms instead of the typical mess. Among inexpensive models, many car owners choose the Kama Euro 519. Another good option is the Amtel Nordmaster ST

As for large cities with frequent use of reagents or regular snow removal, Velcro would be the best choice. They behave better on slushy snow and have increased grip. Mud or all-purpose tires can also be a replacement, but they “don’t like” asphalt.

Chevy owners often leave their mud tires on for the winter. This approach makes sense if the car is used mostly outside the city and does not drive on highways. Mud tires can easily overcome snow drifts. The best models for this are the well-known Viati Bosco A/T or BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain models. Extreme tires will be needed if very heavy precipitation in the form of snow is typical in the region.

All-season mud tires for Niva

For the city

For the cold season, you should choose softer tires. This will give better grip on snow and ice, and they will cling to the asphalt well, which will keep the car’s handling at the proper level. And it is better to give preference to wider wheels due to the larger contact patch between the tire and the road surface. At the same time, a slight increase in fuel consumption is a small price to pay for the stability of the car.

It is not forbidden to use a car with “original” tires off-road; on compacted snow, the car obediently follows the turn of the steering wheel. Shallow mud and muddy dirt roads will not cause any inconvenience in driving. But ice and swampy terrain will help replace the standard with Kama Flame 515.

This model is available in studded and studless versions, 15 and 16 inches. Deep, loose snow is her element, ice and mud rides are more confident than on the Kirovskaya 185/75/R16. The price of Flame is very reasonable. And the resource is considerable - 70-80 thousand km.

The selection of tires for the Niva Urban is completely similar to other models. The wheels used here are identical to those on older versions of the car. The only difference is the discs. Here the cast rims are placed on a five-spoke spider.

If the vehicle is intended to be used in off-road conditions, users recommend installing narrow, high tires. They are ideal for mud, snow and sticky clay. When driving on sandy areas, loose soil or crushed stone deposits, on the contrary, wider tires are chosen. This helps to avoid sinking into loose soils.

R 16, 4*4

If we are talking about standard wheels, then the tires will be standard - 175/80/16.
Basically, car owners equip this car with R-15 alloy wheels and 205/70/15 tires. The result is not only reliable and practical, but also elegant. The good thing about size 205/70/15 is that in its range the car owner will be able to choose tires for any budget and for any road surface.

Niva tires 4*4 size r16, Kama Flame models, are extremely popular and it seems that the interest of Niva car owners in these tires is quite fair and deserved.

The strengths of these tires are deservedly called:

  1. Impressive service life. With a driving mode that is far from “retirement”, these wheels “take care” of 90 thousand kilometers or more.
  2. The level of acoustic comfort is quite high.
  3. Decent cross-country ability.

Owners of such tires agree that this option is the best for Niva, including in terms of the balance of cost and reliability. You shouldn't expect miracles, but you won't be disappointed either.

How long to pump winter tires

In winter, it is customary to slightly reduce blood pressure compared to summer. This helps improve traction. Thus, the indicators can be reduced for soft rubber to 0.8 atmospheres, and for regular tires to 1.2.

Standard testing of winter tires, carried out by experts from leading auto publications such as Autoreview, is designed to find out how tires behave in the following conditions:

  • ice tracks;
  • snowy road;
  • clean highway.

And also inside and outside the city. The indicators check the grip level by determining the braking distance, acceleration speed and cornering control.

When choosing suitable winter tires, you should pay attention to its cost and compare it with the budget that you are willing to allocate for it. Today the market offers models of three price classes - low, middle and premium. At the same time, within each of them, products are ranked depending on the authority of the brand.

The lower price category includes brands such as Cordiant or Kumho. The cost of their tires for the cold season ranges from 3-4.5 thousand rubles per piece. Prices in the middle price category, which includes Nordman, BF Goodrich or Nokian, range from 5-8 thousand rubles. And over 8 thousand sell premium-segment wheels.

Responsible owners of iron horses have a separate set of wheels for each season: summer and winter. Many even purchase special tires to overcome mud. This approach seems to be the most correct. Although there are still those who believe that since the Chevrolet Niva is positioned as an SUV, there is no need to change summer tires with the onset of cold weather.

However, savings in this case are unacceptable.

  • The aerodynamics of an SUV are not its strongest side, so a car with all-wheel drive and high ground clearance does not have high stability on slippery surfaces.
  • Off-road qualities are manifested not at all on an icy road, but off-road.
  • The weight of 4x4 vehicles is significantly higher compared to their passenger counterparts, which is why they are characterized by greater inertia and, accordingly, longer braking distances.

So you can’t ignore the rules that apply to owners of regular hatchbacks or sedans. As you know, for different seasons, tires are made from certain rubber compounds that differ in ductility in different temperature ranges. Summer tires lose their elasticity, which largely determines the car’s behavior on the road, already at 5 degrees; all-season tires can be used down to -5.

When choosing tires, you should focus on the climatic conditions of the region. Many people are concerned about the question of whether it is possible to install all-season wheels on a Niva. If there is no frost or snow in winter, then you can opt for these tire models. Frequent trips to icy surfaces require the installation of studded tires.

And, of course, do not forget that the tires change on both axles and all tires must be the same (from the same manufacturer and the same parameters).

Only by observing these requirements can you ensure comfort and safety for yourself and others.

Previously, at the factory, cars were equipped with Kama tires with standard sizes 185/75 R16. However, it should be noted that the Niva has a rather low landing. And these tires are not intended for an SUV at all, as they instantly become clogged with dirt.

For winter, it is recommended to opt for tires in sizes 215/65. But, in addition to geometric parameters, a well-chosen brand of winter tires is important. For those who are studying winter tires for Niva 4x4: this review can help you understand the range offered.

This tire is designed specifically for 4x4 SUVs. It behaves well not only in cold weather, but also during temperature changes. The profile, slightly rounded, helps not to lose traction when turning.

Designed specifically for countries with cold climates in winter, these tires perform well on the road in all weather conditions. A drop in fuel consumption for cars equipped with these tires was also noted. This option is worthy of consideration by those choosing winter wheels for the Niva.

Cordiant Polar SL

Tires without studs, the cost of which is quite budgetary, perform excellently when the thermometer readings drop below -5 degrees. Therefore, it is not recommended to visit a tire service long before frost. In winter, rubber copes well with ice, and even better with slush.

Kumho I'Zen KW22

Tires with studs perform well when moving on ice. They are budget friendly. However, over the course of a season, you can lose almost a fifth of your studs (especially if you drive on asphalt surfaces).

The rubber is characterized by decent cross-country ability; it starts and brakes well on ice crust. The spikes are quite securely fastened; they practically do not fly out when driving. The tires don't handle snow so well. In addition, they are characterized by a high noise level (when driving at speeds greater than 60 km/h). The price of tires is quite reasonable.

Reviews from those who have already tested this rubber testify to its merits, even without taking into account the brand. What can we say about the tires: they are not too noisy and perform well on icy surfaces. Thorns are practically not lost during the season. Wheels dressed in this tire cope somewhat worse with loose snow slush. But in terms of price/quality ratio, these are good winter wheels for the Niva.

In the middle price segment, this model stands out for its ability to hold both icy road surfaces and loose snow slush well. Moreover, in the latter case, it does this no worse than tires designed for driving on mud. The studs that are installed on the tires have an interesting shape. They are square. Due to this they have special tenacity. Moreover, they hold quite firmly in the tire.

If the car accelerates to a speed of about 70 km/h, a noise can be clearly heard. However, this is typical for almost all tires with studs. In connection with the above, this option can be recommended to those who are deciding which winter tires are best for the Chevrolet Niva.

The purchase of winter tires should not be delayed until the onset of cold weather. It’s better to worry about equipping your iron horse in advance.

The purchase of winter tires should be based on the area of use of the car. If the car is used primarily for hunting and fishing, you will need an aggressive model installed on standard stampings. Serious lugs combined with rolled steel provide decent grip and minimal likelihood of damage to the sidewall when hitting an obstacle.

The most popular solutions for 3 and 5 door Niva on the market are the following tires:

  • KAMA Euro LCV;
  • Rossava LTW;
  • Good Year Cargo Ultra Grip;
  • NOKIAN WRC3;
  • Gislaved Nord Frost 100;
  • Kumho KW 7400.

The choice of tire type depends on the area where the vehicle is used. When asking whether it is necessary to install studs on a Niva, you should refer to the use of a car. If driving is carried out in the city, where the roads are normally cleaned and there are no strong sweeps, installing studded versions is unprofitable. Thanks to all-wheel drive, the car velcros out even from difficult sections of the road.

It's another matter when the car is racing in deep snow. Here the presence of metal inserts will not be unnecessary.

Price for a set of winter tires

The market offers an abundance of different brands, several domestic, many Chinese, and some European ones. Of the domestic ones, Kama Flame wins in terms of price/quality ratio. The products of the Volzhsky tire plant Voltyre are also in use. Chinese rubber is the leader in the number of brands producing it. The price varies accordingly.

Some drivers also use used tires. For example, the Kirov all-season tire has a reserve of body thickness and you can deepen the tread without damaging the rubber and extend its service life.

What models are recommended for installation on a Chevrolet Niva for winter use?

The installation of low-pressure cylinders on the Niva is accompanied by significant modifications to the suspension and body panels of the car. The transmission and chassis are also affected.

Basically the sequence of actions looks like this.

  1. Production of drawings. Serious remodeling begins with design. Any mistake can cause unnecessary costs.
  2. Body modification. Arches are cut out, bridge fastenings are strengthened.
  3. Complete transmission replacement. Installing huge, heavy wheels overloads the gearbox and gearboxes.
  4. Installation of a new suspension adjusted to wide rims.
  5. Installation of wheels and decorative elements.
  6. Running in the car.

A similar sequence is standard when converting any domestic car to low pressure cylinders.

All wheel parameters

In addition to the bolt pattern, when choosing new wheels, they look at the following parameters:

  • offset (distance from the hub to the center of the disk along the width);
  • landing size;
  • radius and diameter (in inches, affects the choice of tires);
  • hub (mounting hole) size in inches.

Do not confuse the characteristics of the disc with the characteristics of the tire. The latter, in terms of dimensions (width and diameter), depend on the parameters of the disk, and also have their own specific ones. These include, for example, the profile height.

Among domestically produced SUVs, Chevrolet Niva has received a well-deserved leadership in sales. But a relatively small percentage of owners use it for its intended purpose - off-road. This car acts as an everyday vehicle. Most often it can be found in rural areas as an excellent option for dirt roads and highway driving. Not everyone decides to “knead the dirt” on a Chevrolet Niva.
