Why the stove on the VAZ 2110 does not work: how to fix the problem

During the operation of cars of various models and brands, a common problem is when the heater in the car does not heat well, the heater does not work, or the heater in the car blows cold air.

There can be several reasons for such a malfunction, starting with a clogged cabin filter or problems with the heater motor and ending with problems with the engine cooling system. In this article we will look at the domestic car VAZ 2110, what to do if the VAZ 2110 stove does not work, why the heater may not work, etc.

The VAZ 2110 stove does not heat well: reasons

So, if the stove blows cold air on a VAZ 2110, the reasons may be different. In practice, the problem most often appears when the car has been standing for a long time. At the same time, you need to know that, in a simplified way, the VAZ-2110 heater consists of:

  • stove radiator;
  • air distribution systems;

The VAZ 2110 heater radiator is located in the engine compartment of the car. In fact, this solution “cooks” the warm air before it is supplied to the cabin. The distribution system controls the intensity of air supply, temperature, etc. The supply and distribution system is located in the cabin, installed on the instrument panel.

As for malfunctions, the stove may not heat up if the stove radiator is not sealed or an antifreeze leak appears. In practice, the stove in the car often does not blow warm air if it is not possible to change the temperature regime. The gear motor may also fail or the damper may be faulty.

Even on the VAZ 2110, malfunctions occur in the operation of the automatic control system. This is the block that controls the heater. The list of common malfunctions is completed by a temperature sensor located in the ceiling lining in the car's interior. Now let's figure it out.

Assembly

When installing a new damper, be sure to make sure that the fork located on its axis is clearly engaged with the lever. If the flap is in the raised position, you did everything right. Otherwise, it will be impossible to control the device, so you can forget about restoring the functionality of the stove.

Damper location

After this, reverse the assembly procedure according to the dismantling steps. Refill the system with coolant and check that the new damper is in place. It is important to ensure that there are no leaks and that the hose connections are not tight.

Turn on the stove and check how the heater behaves. If everything is normal, you have carried out competent and successful work, for which we congratulate you.

The VAZ 2110 stove does not work: diagnostics and repair

Having decided on the main reasons, it is necessary to begin diagnostics. First of all, problems with temperature regulation may be associated with a breakdown of the control unit or damper.

  • First, you should check the temperature sensor on the ceiling, which is located near the interior lamp. Simply put, malfunctions in its operation lead to the fact that the required command does not reach the damper and the stove does not heat.

Checking the sensor is easy. To do this, you need to move the control knob first to one extreme position, and then to the other. At the same time, you should check whether there is a change in the temperature of the incoming air.

The temperature may not change completely, or the air becomes warmer only when the handle is in the extreme maximum position. If the temperature does not change, then the problem is not in the sensor. In the second case, the culprit may well be the controller, which is replaced with a working device.

  • A breakdown of the gear motor often results in the heater blowing cold air into the cabin after turning on the heating. This is a common problem. As a rule, replacing the heater gear motor allows you to normalize the operation of the system.

To change this element, you need to remove the windshield wipers, dismantle the frill by unscrewing the screws. Then you need to disconnect the wiring from the gearmotor, remove the faulty device and install a working one.

  • If there is a suspicion that the heater of the VAZ 2110 stove has failed, you will need to remove the main deflector for inspection. To do this, you need to straighten the fasteners and move the damper. By the way, you can get to the damper from the engine compartment.

The inspection allows you to determine whether there is a need to replace the radiator. If this is the case, you need to disassemble the stove. You can read below about how to remove the radiator of a VAZ 2110 stove with your own hands.

  • If the air is warm, but not warmed up enough or supplied poorly, it is recommended to change the damper. Instead of a standard plastic solution, it is better to buy an aluminum heater damper from a VAZ.

This eliminates possible deformation of the damper during switching, as well as improves heat retention. As a result, the heating system works more efficiently, the air is supplied hotter, which allows you to warm up the interior more efficiently and quickly.

What you need to get the job done

To repair the stove temperature regulator you will need a few simple tools and devices common to most car enthusiasts:

  • control lamp (control);
  • two conductors with insulated contacts for a 13-pin block to which the control unit is connected;
  • small screwdriver;
  • a tool for removing the controller from the mounting socket;
  • A multimeter is a useful device that allows you to perform a wide range of measurements of parameters in the electrical system of a car.

How to replace the heater radiator on a VAZ 2110

So, it should be borne in mind that replacing the radiator of the VAZ 2110 stove is a necessary solution if the radiator is severely clogged, damaged and leaking. In any case, problems with this element will lead to the stove not working normally.

Let's move on. Once you are convinced that replacement is not possible, you need to select a new radiator. Please note that there are two types: old (before the fall of 2003) and new type (after 2003). So, they are not interchangeable.

Having decided on a suitable option, you also need to understand which heater radiator is better for the VAZ 2110. In practice, the optimal solution is the DAAZ heater radiator. Now let's look at how to remove the stove on a VAZ 2110. More precisely, its main element, that is, the radiator.

  • Before removing the radiator, you need to prepare a container for draining the coolant, a Phillips screwdriver, a high 10 socket and a ratchet wrench, a 17 socket wrench, a 13 wrench. It is also advisable to have a universal joint and a ratchet wrench extension.
  • First, drain the coolant (there is a drain plug on the engine block), then unscrew the plug on the expansion tank. At the same time, it is recommended that along with replacing the radiator, you also replace the coolant in the system. To do this, you need to drain the antifreeze from the radiator.
  • Next, you should unscrew the clamps and remove the pipes from the expansion tank, then unfasten the fastening belt and remove the tank. Then the hood seal is removed, all the screws (fasteners) of the sound insulation of the engine compartment are unscrewed.
  • Next, all the clamps are removed, and two nuts that secure the trim are unscrewed from the body at the bottom.
    To unscrew them, use a high 10mm socket and a ratchet wrench. Now you can remove the casing. We also recommend reading the article about why antifreeze or antifreeze bubbles in the expansion tank. From this article you will learn about the reasons for the bubbling of antifreeze in the cooling system tank, as well as how to eliminate this malfunction.
  • Next, you need to disconnect the chip on the brake cylinder reservoir cap, the hose and the fitting from the vacuum booster. Then we take the key 17, unscrew the GTZ nuts to the vacuum brake booster. At the same time, we do not unscrew the tubes from the GTZ so that air does not get into the brake system. Next, we move the GTZ towards us, pull it closer to the radiator of the cooling system (we bring it out as much as the length of the brake pipes allows).
  • Now, inside the car, you need to disconnect the wiring from the brake light switch, then use a socket wrench 13 to unscrew the 4 nuts that secure the brake pedal bracket to the car body.
  • After this, you can begin to remove the VUT vacuum brake booster in the engine compartment along with the bracket and pedal.
    There is no need to rush; these elements can be removed without having to remove the plastic windshield trim. Upon completion of all work, access to the heater radiator is opened (on machines with a new type of heater radiator). Now we unscrew the clamps of the two main pipes, as well as one pipe for the steam outlet. At the same time, disconnect the damper control motor connector.
  • The final step is to unscrew the three radiator fasteners to the body of the stove itself. Next, the old radiator can be removed, after which a new VAZ 2110 heater radiator is installed in its place.
  • It is also recommended to clear the niche of debris before installation, which will help get rid of unpleasant odors, corrosion in this area, etc. After installing the radiator, we assemble it in the reverse order.

Design Features

For the VAZ 2110, it is possible to install two types of stoves - new and old. Regardless of the engine used (injection or carburetor), there are no fundamental differences in the designs of the stoves.

But what is the difference between the new and old type stoves? Let's try to figure it out.

  • Radiator design. This is the main difference between the devices. Therefore, when replacing a radiator from an old one to a new one, be sure to take into account the installation nuances;
  • The controller knob on stoves is slightly different. Old-style heaters have a main problem - they have been discontinued. They cannot be an analogue for 4 and 5 position controllers, which began to be equipped with dozens of them in the fall of 2003;
  • The micro-gear motors for the stoves are different, starting in September of the same 2003. The difference lies in the shaft position sensors (resistors). Therefore, when making repairs, make sure that the devices are truly interchangeable and that you bought old-style resistors for your old stove, not new ones. Otherwise the gearmotor will not work.

Tips and tricks

VAZ 2110 owners often note that even when the stove is working properly, the air flow on the side windows and legs is insufficient. In such conditions, your feet get cold and your windows fog up. In this case, many people modify the air ducts in the car interior itself. To upgrade the heating system, you need to remove all the panels and disassemble them, seal the gaps, cracks, etc. Sealing is very important; all fastening points are also “packed” separately.

The damper and standard seal are also removed. Next, the valve is glued, and the cracks on the driver and passenger sides are processed. Often, during modification, the standard air distributor is removed, after which corrugated tubes with a diameter of at least 4 cm are installed.

Let’s also add that in order to increase the efficiency of the VAZ 2110 stove, you need to pay attention to how the floor mats are laid in the cabin. Sometimes the outlet of hot air into the feet is blocked by the carpets in the car. If necessary, the nozzles can be raised a little higher.

Finally, we note that it is optimal to turn on the heater in the “windshield/legs” position. This will prevent the front windows from fogging up; also, heating the feet makes it possible to warm up the interior more effectively than blowing air only from the central and side deflectors.

Drive problem

When changing the damper, do not forget to check the functionality of the actuator.

Drive unit

If the micromotor gearbox does not work, it will have to be repaired or simply replaced with a new one.

  1. Having removed the trim and trim from the windshield, directly behind the vacuum booster of your “ten” you will find a micromotor gearbox. Disconnect two connectors from the amplifier - the micromotor and the micromotor-reducer. Now unscrew the screws and
  2. remove the micromotor gearbox. You have to remove the motor from it.
  3. Connect it to the automatic control system to check its functionality.

If the device does not work, you can try to repair it. For this:

  • Bend the pressed side slightly and remove the lid;
  • Check the condition of the commutator, brushes and bearings;
  • Replace the specified components or correct them;
  • If the gear teeth are worn out on the gearbox, it will have to be replaced;
  • Be sure to lubricate the bearings. Ideally, a silicone-based lubricant should be used;
  • If the above measures do not help, simply install a new unit.

Block responsible for temperature

The central unit in the stove system is the heating unit. Its main function is to directly heat the interior. This block is arranged as follows. An electric motor with fan blades pumps hot air, three dampers perform the function of recirculation and closing/opening the channels. There is also a heater core. On modern new generation systems, heat exchangers are not equipped with a tap.

Therefore, the radiator is always heated, regardless of the time of year. The manufacturer claims that this has solved the problem with constant faucet leaks. In addition, heating of the interior is significantly faster. In summer, supply ventilation occurs outside the radiator.

Useful information on using the heater

The above methods help improve interior heating. But it wouldn’t hurt for motorists to familiarize themselves with the operating rules of the stove and adjacent systems. This will help keep the heater in working condition:

  • If you have installed an air conditioner in a VAZ 2110, then it is best to run it in wet weather.
  • In cold weather, it is most effective to use two positions of the heater: “all on your feet” - when starting to drive, “all on the glass” - a minute before the car starts.
  • The nozzles should not be blocked by anything. Motorists often place carpets on them, which absorb heat. To avoid this, you need to raise the nozzles above some kind of lining. Then nothing will disturb them when the blower is running.
  • Before starting the stove in the cold season, it is necessary to clean all the glass from moisture or dirt.
