Frequency of fluid replacement in the gearbox and rear axle gearbox

It is recommended to change the transmission oil in the gearbox and rear axle gearbox of the VAZ 2107 every 35,000 km or after 3 years of vehicle operation.

The need for early replacement is indicated by whistling and noise from the side of the bridge, knocking noises when the nature of the load changes, and traces of oil fluid on the gearbox and gearbox.

It would not be superfluous to regularly (every 10 thousand kilometers) check the transmission fluid level. To do this, the car is installed on an inspection hole, overpass or lift. The filler plug is cleaned of dirt and unscrewed. The oil level is controlled, for example, with a screwdriver: the liquid should reach the edge of the hole.

If there is insufficient oil, it is topped up using a syringe or other device.

Along with measuring the liquid level, you can also check its condition. You need to unscrew the drain plug and drain some oil into a clean container.

The lubricant must be replaced if:

  • It contains silvery metal dust or (much worse) grains of metal
  • The color of the liquid is black or coffee (this may indicate the destruction of additives or water entering the oil)

Oil change instructions

You can change the oil in the gearbox and rear axle gearbox of a VAZ 2107 on your own. This is usually done simultaneously and immediately after the trip (at least 5 km so that the oil warms up).

You can buy 3 liters of oil at once - 1.3 liters for the gearbox and 1.4 liters for the gearbox. The residue can be used to lubricate locks, hinges and other interior elements.

In addition to oil, you will need:

  • Wire brush
  • Socket wrench "17"
  • Hexagon on "12"
  • Container for draining old fluid (at least 3 liters)

It is better to change the oil in an inspection pit or overpass. To simplify the procedure, it is advisable to have an oil blower or lever grease gun on hand. As an alternative, you can use a large plastic syringe with an elastic tube tightly wrapped around its end.

Changing the gearbox oil

Clean the drain and fill plugs on the transmission with a wire brush. Unscrew the drain with a hexagon to “12” and drain the oil into a previously prepared container. After this, remove the filler plug with a key set to “17”. Let the liquid drain completely. To speed up this process, you can raise the right side of the car using a jack.

As soon as the draining is complete, do not rush to tighten the plug - assess the condition of the waste liquid.

If there are chips in it, it is better to wash the gearbox housing. To do this, you can use special fluids, spindle oil or a mixture of transmission and diesel fuel (about 30% diesel fuel). Flushing occurs with the engine running and first gear engaged. After 3-4 minutes, the dirty liquid is drained and the drain plug is replaced.

To add fresh oil, take an oil pump or syringe with a tube, pump the lubricant through the filler hole to its bottom edge (until it starts to flow out) and tighten the plug.

Filling the gearbox with oil is sometimes carried out using a rubber hose and funnel. One end of the hose is lowered into the gearbox housing, and the other is led out into the engine compartment. A filler funnel is also inserted into it. The only disadvantage of this method is the need to warm up the oil or change it only in the summer.

Why do you need to change the oil?

As you know, the engine is the heart of any car. And the heart cannot function without blood. In this case, the blood is motor oil, which lubricates moving parts and also cools various components in the engine.

Over time, such a lubricant loses its characteristics, becomes dirty and cannot effectively cool the engine, which leads to various serious breakdowns. To prevent such problems with the engine, the VAZ 2107 oil change should be carried out every 15 thousand kilometers. Moreover, if the car is used in the city, it is best to reduce the service interval to 10,000 miles.

Peculiarities

If extraneous sounds and knocking noises appear in the steering gear, which are felt through the steering wheel, you should think about changing the oil, because this is the first sign of a malfunction of the mechanism. You should also be careful and hurry up with repairs in cases where turning the steering wheel becomes difficult, various sounds and noises occur constantly or periodically. If there is obvious play in the steering gearbox, you may notice an oil leak. If you identify at least one of these signs, you should not waste time, you need to urgently repair the mechanism or seek help. Neglect of this kind of malfunction will not lead to anything good, because the loss of the ability to control a car can have unpredictable consequences, not only for the driver, but also for other road users.
