If you buy a car, put it in a cupboard and admire it, then you definitely won’t need to replace any working fluids. And since a normal car is constantly in use, it requires maintenance. One of the types of work that needs to be done is replacing antifreeze or antifreeze - in a word, coolant.

Cooling system design

This article provides instructions on how to replace antifreeze in a VAZ 2112 yourself. Here you will find some features that are important to pay attention to when replacing the coolant, a video on the replacement and a detailed description of the process itself.

Replacing antifreeze (antifreeze) on a VAZ-2112 16 valves with your own hands (+ video)

Replacing the coolant on a 16-valve VAZ-2112 is quite easy and simple. This does not require special knowledge. It is worth noting that the choice of coolant must be taken seriously, since using a liquid that has exhausted its service life can not only damage the power unit, but also lead to a major overhaul of the engine.

Video materials will tell you about the process of replacing the coolant, the stages, and give tips and recommendations.

Optimal coolant option

When you have figured out how to replace antifreeze on a VAZ 2110 (2112), it is important to choose the optimal fluid option. Many car enthusiasts only use expensive antifreeze, considering it to be of higher quality. For VAZ cars, it is quite possible to use a cheap domestic product - antifreeze, the characteristics of which were developed specifically for these cars

For VAZ cars, it is quite possible to use a cheap domestic product - antifreeze, the characteristics of which were developed specifically for these cars.

Owners of domestic cars respond positively to Felix brand antifreeze. It is sold in canisters of 5 and 10 liters, and smaller containers. It is profitable to purchase liquid in a 10 kg container - it is cheaper, and after replacing the used antifreeze, there is still liquid left for refilling.

The process of replacing coolant on a VAZ-2112

Before proceeding directly to the replacement process, it is necessary to select the appropriate tools. So, to complete the process you will need:

  • Ratchet with 13mm head.
  • The key is 17.
  • Key for 10.
  • Container for liquid.
  • Funnel for the bay.

When the tools have been selected, you can proceed directly to the process. It is worth noting that replacing the coolant is carried out when the car has cooled down, so it is best to let it cool down after a trip for about an hour, depending on the ambient temperature. So, let's look directly at the replacement process itself:

  1. Having placed the car on a pit or a lift, using a 10mm wrench we dismantle the engine protection.
  2. Unscrew the cap of the expansion tank.

Unscrew the expansion tank cap. The photo shows the editor's car, this is what the coolant tank looks like, it's still original, the car is from 2003, the mileage is 170,000 km

To drain most of the fluid, unscrew the drain plug on the cylinder block.

To completely drain the liquid, remove the cap from the radiator.

This is how antifreeze will flow from the engine

Fill in new fluid through the knob

If necessary, you can change the thermostat and pipe clamps that are worn out.

Antifreeze or antifreeze

Antifreeze versus antifreeze - which is better?

Motorists often face the question of what is better antifreeze or antifreeze? Of course, in terms of technical and physico-chemical characteristics, antifreeze is inferior to antifreeze. The second one is better to use in winter, since it has many additives that have a lower freezing point and a higher boiling point.

Of course, the manufacturer recommends using antifreeze, since it is designed specifically for cars of the VAZ family. Of course, price plays a very important role, where antifreeze loses to its competitor. Therefore, in the end, we can say that both types of coolant can be used for VAZ.

Minuses

So, we have looked at the benefits of using antifreeze.
As you can see, this is a more technologically advanced product that can and should be used on the VAZ-2110. Its only drawback is the price. But it pays off already in the third year of operation (since the service life of the concentrate is 2.5 times higher than the Russian analogue). We will tell you below how to replace antifreeze on a VAZ-2110 with an injector and carburetor.

First you need to prepare the necessary set of tools and devices. We will need a set of keys (10, 13 and 17), as well as a funnel for pouring liquid. Additionally, you should prepare a container with a volume of at least five liters.

It is needed to drain old antifreeze. An old canister with a cut side or a basin is suitable as a container. To avoid getting your hands dirty, use rubber gloves.

Next, the antifreeze is replaced with a VAZ-2110. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a carburetor or an injector - the instructions are the same for both types of cars.

How the cooling system works

The principle of operation of the OS is based on the forced circulation of antifreeze, first through a small, then through a large circuit:

  1. When the engine starts, the centrifugal pump is activated. It drives fluid flows through the system. When a VAZ 2112 pump breaks down, it cannot be disassembled; it is replaced with a new assembly.
  2. Before starting to move, the engine runs at idle speed, gaining the required temperature. Antifreeze circulates in a small circle, covering the cooling jacket. When the working indicator is reached, the composition enters the large circle.
  3. The process is controlled by a thermostat located on the cylinder block. It prevents the engine from overheating or, on the contrary, cooling down. If a unit fails, it is not disassembled, but replaced with a new one.
  4. The main function lies with the radiator: it cools the antifreeze due to oncoming air flows. If this is not enough, the fan turns on. It is triggered by a temperature sensor located in the air filter.
  5. An expansion tank equipped with a plug with two valves is responsible for replenishing the required level of antifreeze.

The tightness of the lid is a prerequisite for the operation of the entire system. The optimal pressure depends on the valves. When overheating, one releases steam, the second releases air when cooling.

What's better?

First, let's figure out what to choose for your car. After all, no one wants to repair a car often, but on the contrary - once it’s done well and forgotten about the problem for a long time. Let's immediately note one thing - antifreeze is the name of a certain antifreeze. Antifreeze was developed in Russia for domestic cars. It is universal for locally produced cars, but is not used in foreign cars.

Antifreeze

So:

  • Antifreeze is produced using traditional technologies, which are already noticeably outdated.
  • Such technologies allow the formation of a protective layer on the walls of cooling jackets up to 0.5 mm thick during operation. And considering the thickness of the shirts themselves, this is not so little!
  • This very layer has low thermal conductivity, and therefore heat transfer. It turns out that the cooling system has to work longer at elevated temperatures.
  • This leads to increased wear of unit parts, as well as increased gasoline consumption. Sediment can also cause the thermostat to jam.
  • The advantage of antifreeze over other antifreezes is its price! It's much smaller!
  • On the other hand, antifreeze is quite common in our area. It is widely used at technical stations. service by many masters.
  • Taking into account the wear of engine parts and other possible breakdowns, we can say that antifreeze fully justifies itself as a coolant.
  • Usually replaced after 30-40 thousand kilometers or 1 year of use of the car.

Replacing coolant temperature sensors in a VAZ 2112

The temperature control device is one of the important elements of the cooling system. It changes the resistance depending on the heating temperature of the liquid, preventing overheating of the motor. When it fails, the liquid boils, then turns into steam and comes out of various openings in the system.

Problems with the sensor occur quite rarely; the cause of the breakdown may be a loss of contact in the internal part between the elements or a violation of the density of the external insulation of the wires.

Replacement of a faulty part is carried out only with a sensor suitable for the VAZ 2112 article

  1. Remove the negative mark from the battery.
  2. Drain the antifreeze.
  3. Remove the air filter.
  4. Remove the wires from the sensor.
  5. Take out the old part from the pipe and replace it with a new one.

Reassemble the assembly in reverse order. The only equipment you need is a 14 key.

How much antifreeze in 2112 16 valves

To fully refill the cooling system on a VAZ 2112, you will need 7-8 liters of antifreeze; this volume is relevant for both 16 and 8 valve engines. Often, when replacing, no more than 6 liters enter the expansion barrel up to the maximum mark - this is an indicator that air has entered the system.

It is necessary to press all the pipes in several places, start the engine with the lid on the tank open and turn on the radiator that heats the interior.

The plugs will go away, and the fluid level will drop enough to add to the volume required by technical parameters.

What antifreeze to fill in VAZ 2107

Especially for domestically produced cars, a coolant composition (antifreeze) was developed that is capable of not freezing at abnormally low temperatures. The imported composition (antifreeze) has better technical characteristics; it benefits from additional anti-corrosion and lubricating additives, but does not lose its properties at -400C.

Antifreeze for VAZ 2112 is more preferable. From the factory the system is charged with Felix TC-40. Coolant comes in two types: G11 (blue or green) and G12 (red). Select in accordance with the color and factory markings indicated on the expansion tank cap. Do not mix two types of antifreeze. If it is blue, then you need to add the same one. But at the same time, after flushing the OS, you can refill it with both G11 and G12.

Russian-made antifreeze is available in three types, all of them suitable for the VAZ 2112 model:

  • AK (concentrate);
  • A40 – for cars of all generations;
  • A65 is a preferred replacement for newer models; it contains anti-corrosion additives, antifreeze does not boil and does not form foam.

A universal option for replacing antifreeze for domestic cars

Antifreeze from foreign manufacturers is applicable for VAZ 2112 only class G12:

  • Lukoil Ultra;
  • Glaself;
  • Chevron;
  • Motorcraft;
  • Energy;
  • AWM;
  • Freecor;
  • Antifreeze Z40 AGA;
  • Inugel Optimal MOTUL.

All the products listed above do not freeze down to -400C. In the northern regions, it is better to use AK concentrate as a replacement. It can withstand temperatures down to -650 C.

How much antifreeze is in a VAZ 2112 16 valves

The VAZ 2112 model has two antifreeze drains from the plug on the block and holes in the bottom of the radiator, so during replacement, almost all of the old liquid is removed. To refill you will need 7.5 liters. Antifreeze is sold in the form of a concentrate with a volume of 2-4 liters, it is diluted with distilled water, but its performance qualities are worse.

It is better to buy a 10 liter canister of a substance that is already ready for replacement. The remaining antifreeze in the manufacturer's container retains its technical characteristics for a long time. Coolant can later be used to top up the reservoir if its level drops.

Antifreeze

  • Antifreezes are usually considered a better coolant option than domestic antifreeze.
  • Different colors of antifreeze indicate its different composition, the presence of additional additives and, accordingly, different temperature conditions in which its operation is allowed.
  • The best efficiency is about antifreeze. They do not form a protective layer along the entire wall of the shirt. The protective film is formed only in places of metal corrosion and reaches a thickness 100 times less than the antifreeze film.
  • Various additives can increase the service life of antifreeze up to 250 thousand kilometers, and standard antifreeze with a minimum of additives or without them can last up to 100 thousand kilometers.

Based on the above information, we draw conclusions. Replacing antifreeze on a VAZ 2112 requires high-quality fluid. Antifreeze is better than antifreeze.

Remember! It is recommended to use the brand of antifreeze recommended by the manufacturers.

How to change antifreeze on a VAZ 2112

Replacing the coolant in a VAZ 2112 with 16 or 8 valves does not differ in its technology from other modifications of the car. The process takes place in two stages: complete removal of old antifreeze and refilling with new one.

How to drain antifreeze from a VAZ 2112

The car is lifted with a lift or placed on a pit. You can drive it onto an overpass, but it will take time for the engine to cool down completely.

  1. Remove the protection from the bottom.
  2. Open the hood and disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.

  3. Remove the lid from the tank; it can also be used to regulate the flow of waste liquid, making it smaller or larger, covering or closing the neck.

  4. Unscrew the valve at the bottom of the radiator and place a container to drain the antifreeze.

  5. Remove the plug on the drain hole of the block.

  6. Allow the liquid to completely drain into the container.

After removing the antifreeze, the system is washed with water.

Where to fill antifreeze in VAZ 2112

Before replacing the antifreeze, return the radiator plug and drain hole to the unit.

Fill the system with a new compound through the neck of the expansion tank

  1. Pour antifreeze in a thin stream.
  2. While filling the system, press the pipes with your hands to remove any air pockets.
  3. Fill the tank to the maximum level.
  4. Close the lid and start the engine, let it run until it reaches operating temperature.
  5. Increase the speed several times to the maximum.
  6. When the engine has cooled down, check the level.

If everything went well, the level does not drop, then the required amount of antifreeze will enter the system.

When and why do you need to change the refrigerant?

According to the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations, the engine coolant should be replaced every 75,000 kilometers or 3 years of operation, regardless of how old the vehicle is. In addition, the coolant should be replaced when the car owner discovers that it has lost its properties, changed its color or consistency.

If this is not done, the engine is at risk of overheating. In addition, low-quality coolant causes scale to settle in the cooling jacket channels, mainly in the radiators and radiators.

Tips for replacing coolant

In order to avoid mistakes during maintenance of the VAZ 2112 when replacing antifreeze, certain conditions must be observed:

  1. Work is carried out only with a cold engine.
  2. Protect exposed skin and hands from exposure to toxic substances, which include coolant.
  3. Prevent antifreeze from getting on the surface of the generator.
  4. To avoid getting a thermal burn, do not open the reservoir cap (it is under pressure) when the engine is running.
  5. After draining the coolant, it is recommended to rinse the system with water until the latter is clear.
  6. Fill the system with the required volume of antifreeze according to the technical specifications.

After replacement, check the system for the presence of air in it. Start the engine, allow it to warm up to operating temperature, and turn on the interior heater. Warm currents should flow from it. They test the surface of the pipes: if they are cold, then the system has plugs.

To get rid of them, the VAZ 2112 is placed on a slope (the front part is higher), the gear is switched to neutral and the gas pedal is pressed and released several times.

Replacing coolant on VAZ 2110, VAZ 2111, VAZ 2112

Welcome! Coolant - without it, cars would boil, because it plays the most basic role in the engine cooling system, namely, it flows through the pipes and cools them, and this liquid itself is cooled by the radiator and the fan that blows on it, as well as the radiator blows the air flow, this becomes especially noticeable when driving a car quickly, when the car practically does not heat up.

Note! In order to replace the coolant, you will need to stock up on: Firstly, an empty, preferably very wide container (It will be most convenient to use an ordinary basin, which is unnecessary for anyone, or if you are replacing it in a pit, then it will be possible also use a bucket, or something else where you will drain all the waste liquid), and you will also need to take with you a wrench somewhere “13” and “17” and find, as already mentioned, an inspection hole , because replacing the coolant in the inspection hole will be much more convenient than trying to drain it while the car is standing on the ground, although in this case it will be possible to jack it up, but keep in mind the fact that you will need to place bricks under the rear wheels, otherwise the car may simply fall off and fall to the ground, and by the way, if you lift the front of the car with jacks or with just one jack and put bars or boards under the other side (don’t ever put bricks under the car, there have been cases when they fell apart and the car fell to the floor), so make sure that the front part of your car is at the same level and make sure that the right part, for example, is not higher than the left, and the left is not higher than the right!

Summary:

When should you change the coolant? In fact, it all depends on what kind of liquid you purchased in the store, respectively, if it is fake, then in this case you will have to replace it immediately, otherwise corrosion will begin to occur in parts of the car engine (More on this below in the “Note!” paragraph), but what should I do if I bought a car and the owner told me that he changed all the lubricants (Oil, antifreeze, etc.) in my purchased car, how can I check this, you ask?

It’s all very simple, in order to check whether it’s time to change the fluid or not, first open the expansion tank, which is closed with a lid (Open the tank only on a cold engine, otherwise if your system is depressurized, then the fluid may simply splash out sharply when the engine is heated and go jet, this will cause you burns), so after unscrewing the cap (Indicated by the arrow in the photo below), take a visual look at the color of the liquid you have in the tank, basically all liquids that cool the system have a certain color, that is, antifreeze can be blue , antifreeze red, etc.

Therefore, after you have looked into the tank, visually determine whether the fluid needs to be replaced or not, namely, it will need it if it changes its color to the color of rust, and also if an oil film appears on the surface (This can be very easily determined visually). .

Note! Many people put off replacing this fluid, but the car is running hot, so what do they say, remember once and for all, most engine parts, for example, parts such as the crankshaft, camshaft, the cylinder block itself, etc. They are lubricated with coolant due to the fact that small holes are made in these parts so that this liquid gets into them and cools them from inside, and in the case when the coolant becomes unusable, it begins to gradually, so to speak, devour all these parts due to why premature corrosion occurs, which can ultimately lead you to a major engine overhaul, but it seemed like it was just some kind of coolant, and so many troubles can be caused by it, so when purchasing, be careful too, as at the moment, a lot of fakes are sold on the market! (For information on how to identify counterfeit coolant, see the interesting article entitled: “Detailed information about antifreeze and the so-called antifreeze that is poured into a car engine.”)

Operating principle of SOD

The cooling system is closed and always works, no settings are required. Antifreeze is poured into the expansion tank. Most often, antifreeze or another coolant is used as a coolant. This is a solution of water with ethylene glycol, thanks to which the liquid does not freeze at low temperatures. The cooling system of the 10th family uses about 8 liters of coolant; it needs to be topped up if necessary. After reaching a mileage of 75,000 km, it is recommended to flush the system and change the coolant. The operating principle of the SOD can be divided into several stages:

  1. The circulation of the working fluid is carried out thanks to a centrifugal pump (pump). It is integrated into the cylinder block and driven by the timing belt.
  2. Circulating through the jacket of the cylinder block, the antifreeze begins to heat up from the parts that are heated as a result of the operation of the internal combustion engine. At this time, a sensor located right there measures the temperature of the coolant, which moves only along a small circuit. When the antifreeze heats up to 90 degrees, the thermostat valve opens slightly, allowing the liquid to circulate through a large circuit. This means that the coolant begins to pass through the main radiator, where it cools and returns to the system - this is how heat is removed. The small and large circuits operate in parallel. After the temperature rises to 102 degrees, circulation occurs only in a large circle.
