5. Reduced fuel costs! Or the cost of mileage or the cost of one 1 km.

Statistics for the first three gas stations, everything went to zero after switching to gasoline:

date...Filled up.Gas station.mileage...price per 1km 05/13/18...20.26 cubic meters...273.51 rub....280 km...0.98 rub. 05/15/18…21.10 cubic meters…284.85 rubles…283 km…1.01 rubles. 05/19/18…19.79 cubic meters…267.17 rubles…297 km…0.90 rubles.

The average price of one km of gas is slightly less than a ruble.

I spent a long time calculating the price of gasoline, but it definitely doesn’t work out there, because... there are leftovers in the tank, it turned out to be about 3.0 - 3.5 rubles per km.

Result: gas is more than three times cheaper.

PS: if you liked the article, you can include me in the application for a Gazprom card in the column “On the recommendation of a friend” (so that I receive 250 cubic meters of gas), I will inform you of my details (full name and card number, when I receive it) upon request in a personal message. The CVT is of course good, but I installed the firmware in two modes, Euro2. 6p, +1p HBO setting. A car runs better on gas than on gasoline.

I’ll write about my experience installing Methane.

The Volkswagen Polo sedan has been in use for almost 3.5 years and has a mileage of 75,300 km at the time of installation. CFNB engine, 1.6l, 85hp Installed in Automastergaz, the standard kit costs 58t.r., instead of an 80l tank I installed a 90l one, plus it turned out to be two thousand more, for a total of 60t.r. Right now I’m waiting for a card from Gazprom for 2000 cubic meters.

Why Methane and not Propane? Posted here and posted here by Converter. In short, it's because it's cheaper. And, oddly enough, I am for preserving nature! Methane is a clean fuel, the output is almost water and carbon dioxide, when propane-butane is essentially the same as gasoline, although more purified.

What equipment? I couldn’t delve deeply... I tried to read about the HBO resource from different manufacturers. It turns out that the most expensive thing is replacing gas injectors. Some manufacturers sometimes have injectors that fail at 20 thousand - in my case this is somehow not enough, it happens once a year.

Installation and Maintenance

If you think that you can install a gas cylinder yourself without experience and skills in this matter, then you are unlikely to succeed. To install the equipment, it is better to contact specialists. When working, you need to weld brackets and carry out wiring, which a non-professional cannot do efficiently, and safety depends on the quality of the installation. The 42-liter tank is installed in the spare wheel well. Then it can be covered with trim, and the trunk will look aesthetically pleasing again.

If the niche is too small for you or you need it for other purposes, then a cylinder (cylinder) with a volume of up to 80 liters can be installed directly in the trunk.

In the Lada's interior there is a button that switches the fuel type: from gas to gasoline and vice versa.

IMPORTANT! If the gas runs out, the car automatically switches to gasoline fuel.

You can also install a Euro multi-valve. With its help, the driver will be able, while in the cabin, to see how much gas fuel remains in the cylinder.

In order for the equipment to work for a long time and without interruptions, it must be serviced in a timely manner. This includes regular replacement of filters, purging of the editor and fuel line, and setting up the software.

Lada on methane

I get into an ordinary-looking Vesta, turn the ignition key and... everything is as always: after a second the VAZ-21129 engine is ready to take you anywhere. At least a thousand kilometers away, at least even further - of course, provided that the 55-liter tank is filled, and two 50-liter cylinders are filled to capacity with methane. Yes, yes, this is a dual-fuel Lada - and it’s not the only one!

Propane or methane?

If you ask taxi drivers today how much money is spent on gasoline, every second person will say that they have long ago equipped their car with gas equipment and refuel with propane-butane. The benefits are obvious, which is confirmed by the operating experience of the editorial Nissan Almera sedan (also, by the way, made in Tolyatti). A year ago, we paid 25 thousand rubles for a set of gas equipment, and since then Kirill Mileshkin has been saving at gas stations, paying one and a half times less per liter of fuel than those driving on gasoline. The volume of the toroidal tank is small - only 42 liters, and the consumption of propane-butane is higher than gasoline, by about a liter - but the kit has already paid for itself.

Gas equipment (LPG) for cars

The choice of HBO is currently extremely wide. It is possible to purchase equipment both for outdated carburetor cars and for cars equipped with the latest injection systems. The development of this area of automotive equipment began quite a long time ago, and currently there are six different generations of gas equipment on the market.

For most injection machines, equipment of 2-5 generations is suitable. The first generation is intended for carburetors and mono-injectors and its presence on the market is explained by the large number of old cars in service. The sixth generation of HBO is intended for the latest cars and cannot be used on older cars. Generations differ in price and quality, which allows you to choose LPG for any financial opportunity.

HBO kits can operate on both compressed methane and liquefied propane or propane-butane mixtures. For a number of indicators, methane plants are better, but they are more expensive, take up more space and provide a shorter fuel range.

Lada on methane

Gazprom Gas Engine Fuel, a subsidiary of the fuel concern, is engaged in the comprehensive development of the natural gas consumer market in 49 regions of the country. Its areas of activity include the modernization of existing CNG filling stations and the construction of new stations, attraction of resources and assistance in optimizing the laws that regulate the gas engine market.

There are a lot of plans. According to the Ministry of Energy, the number of methane gas stations should double by 2022. Russian Government Decree No. 767‑r prescribes to significantly increase during this time the number of gas vehicles used in public transportation and municipal road works. In cities with a population of over a million, their share will be half of the vehicle fleet, in large (over 300 thousand inhabitants) municipalities - a third. For this purpose, subsidies are allocated annually: for example, when purchasing methane GAZelles and similar minibuses, the region is compensated 130 thousand rubles for each minibus, for a full-size LIAZ or MAZ - 1.3 million, for an accordion - 3 million. This not only covers the higher cost of methane buses compared to conventional ones, but even makes them more attractive!

“If we launch a similar subsidy mechanism for individuals, interest in passenger cars running on natural gas will increase sharply,” sighs Sergei Ivlev. — After all, a set of high-quality gas equipment (with installation) increases the cost of a car coming off the production line by 80–100 thousand rubles, and with the price of the same Vesta 534 thousand (we gasify the basic modification with air conditioning), this is a noticeable amount.

Inability to gain power

Replacing the fuel filter on lada granta and lada kalina

Situations are also possible when the engine makes “heavy” sounds, which is accompanied by the inability to gain full power. And there are reasons for this.

Until a break-in period of 6-7 thousand kilometers is completed, maximum power cannot be gained. Moreover, it is not recommended to increase the crankshaft speed above the 3 thousand mark for the first 2000 thousand kilometers.

Low pressure in the fuel system

If at high speeds it seems to you that the engine:

  • does not develop enough power,
  • It's like he's hitting a wall
  • or when accelerating, “they throw extra weight into tow”

this indicates insufficient pressure in the fuel system. This could be due to a clogged fuel filter. In this case, diagnose and replace the fuel filter.

Bad fuel (gasoline)

The loss of power may be due to low quality fuel, in other words, when you were filled with “badyagu” under the guise of 92 or 95 gasoline. Often, gas stations dilute gasoline with water, or use special “Chinese” cheap additives to increase the octane number of low-grade fuel. In the worst case scenario, you will have to drain all the gasoline from the tank and fill it with new one.

Lada on methane

Why is it so expensive? The bulk of the cost is for cylinders. They are divided into four generations depending on the material and manufacturing technology. If relatively simple and cheap steel cylinders of the first generation are suitable for buses, then in passenger cars the cylinders should be as light as possible - and it is better to use plastic reinforced with carbon fiber. VAZ people think so, although the Volkswagen concern uses both composite and steel containers on different models.

On two fronts

Engineers tried modern cylinders only on Vesta. In fact, this is a prototype demonstrating what a gas-fueled car should ideally look like. The containers are hidden from view under the raised trunk floor in a redesigned niche where the spare tire is usually kept. The filling connector of the modern international standard ISO 14469-1 is located under the gas tank flap - after all, it’s not for nothing that the size of the latter offends the feelings of connoisseurs of beauty. But the main thing is that Vesta has a dual-fuel engine control controller, which ensures optimal operation on both one fuel and the other and an imperceptible transition from gasoline to gas and vice versa. The control unit was developed by the domestic company Itelma, which supplies the lion's share of electronics for Lada. Such a controller can be easily calibrated for a car with a robotic gearbox; it can be equipped with functions for simultaneous injection of gasoline and gas, which is required in certain modes.

How to reduce gas consumption

Motorists whose fuel consumption has suddenly increased sharply are wondering how to reduce gas consumption in their car. It is necessary to diagnose the machine under appropriate conditions and eliminate faults. However, there are some things you can do yourself.

Check the condition of the air filter and spark plugs - if they are in poor condition, they can significantly increase fuel consumption. If you know how, check the ignition timing - shifting it by 5 degrees increases gas consumption by 0.5 liters. Experts will help you deal with more complex cases.

Fuel

Positive
1.Vitaly (otzovik.com): The gas cylinder reserve is enough for 290 – 300 km, depending on the speed limit. Gas consumption based on 6.3 cubic meters in a combined cycle.
2.Kirill (https://zr.ru): gas consumption is average, you could reduce your appetite. On the 21179 motor there is enough power reserve.
3.Dmitry (autobann.su): I don’t always pull the engine uphill in fifth gear, I often switch to fourth or third.
4.Ivan (lada-vesta.net): gas consumption is average, range is 300 km.
5.Vasily (otzovik.com): I mostly drive on gas, there’s enough power. I use gasoline extremely rarely, at startup.
6.Nikolay (https://zr.ru): There is enough power reserve on gas, but the cylinder takes up 2/3 of the luggage compartment, there is no room for things at all.
7.Sergey (autobann.su): my comrades replaced the standard cylinder, set it to 120 liters, the range increased by 30 - 45 km.
8.Vladislav (lada-vesta.net): gas allows you to significantly save on fuel, although not 42%, as stated by the manufacturer, but 30 - 35% is quite realistic.
9.Mikhalych (otzovik.com): gas installations are the future; it’s good that the domestic manufacturer is so actively introducing systems into production cars.
10.Arsen (https://zr.ru): I’ve been actively testing the car on a gas installation for a year, I can’t say anything bad. The only thing is that there is not enough power uphill, I often switch to two gears lower.
11.Stanislav (autobann.su): when the car is fully loaded, the gas engine is rather weak.
12.Stepan (https://forumvesta.ru): in winter it is better to drive on gasoline, gas is not the best solution.
13.Dmitry (lada-vesta.net): after a year of operation there are no comments, gas consumption is no more than 6.3 cubic meters.
Negative
14.Vladimir (https://zr.ru): I don’t trust a gas installation, a gasoline classic is better.
15.Georgy (otzovik.com): the average gas consumption is not 6.3, as stated, but 6.6 - 6.8 cubic meters.
16.Svyatoslav (autobann.su): the engine is weak on gas, it barely pulls uphill, and requires a shift to lower gears.
