Trouble code P0507 - Idle speed is higher than expected.
The Check Engine Light is on on your dashboard and have you read the P0507 trouble code in the engine control module memory?
But what does this mean and how to fix this problem? Which part should I replace and in what order should I start looking for the problem?
In this article, you will learn about the symptoms, causes and solutions, and how to get rid of this trouble code as quickly as possible.
How does a mechanic diagnose a P0507 trouble code?
When diagnosing this error code, a mechanic will do the following:
- Reads all stored error codes using an OBD-II scanner.
- Review all saved data and clear error codes.
- Will test drive the car to make sure there is a problem.
- Check the vacuum wires for damage and also check for intake air leaks.
- Check the throttle body for large amounts of carbon buildup and the throttle body for proper opening and closing.
- Determines the engine idle speed when checking the idle air control valve and oil pressure switch in the power steering system using a diagnostic tool.
- Check the battery charging system.
Recommended Tools to Fix P0507

Diagnostic principles
If a fault check is done at a service station, a special device is connected to the on-board computer, which displays errors in a four-digit format. However, domestic manufacturers have provided another way to obtain information about the condition of the car - to do this, it is enough to run self-diagnosis. It’s easy to do it yourself if you follow the following instructions:
- Below the speedometer on the dashboard there is a dedicated odometer button.
- Press it and turn the ignition key to the first position.
- Immediately after turning the ignition key, release the button.
- After these actions, the instrument needles should begin to move.
- Press the button again and release immediately. If you did everything correctly, data about the firmware version of the on-board computer will appear on the speedometer.
- Press the button one last time and release it. After this action, fault codes should appear on the display.
According to reviews from experienced VAZ-2115 owners, the on-board computer on this model cannot be called perfect. They recommend not relying entirely on self-diagnosis, since the data obtained from it does not accurately indicate problems with transport nodes.
The self-diagnosis system is based on signal processing from common sensors. They are unable to convey the specific data needed to accurately identify the problem. There are imperfections in almost every node. Several controllers are located on the air system and the fuel injection mechanism. They can fail both in the event of a serious breakdown or in the event of a broken conductor.
Most often, VAZ-2115 owners have to deal with incorrect operation of the generator. It is this unit that often produces too low or high voltage, which causes malfunctions of all controllers.
Of course, it is impossible to detect a malfunction in the operation of a vehicle without diagnostics. This can be done using special equipment, which can be found at every specialized service station. But you can also check your car for faults on your own. Note that when checking the car yourself, the error codes will not be the same as when diagnosing on the equipment.
Car VAZ 2115 tuning
So, how can you independently diagnose the state of the VAZ 2115 on-board computer? This question came to the mind of every owner of these car models. Now we will tell you about this in more detail. But diagnosing the car is half the battle, because the resulting combinations of faults also need to be deciphered.
Self-diagnosis of VAZ:
- Find the odometer button on the instrument panel. You need to clamp it down.
- Then turn the ignition key to position 1.
- Having done this, the odometer button will need to be released.
- When you release the button, the arrows on the instrument panel will start jumping.
- Press and release the odometer button again. Numbers will appear on the speedometer indicating the firmware version of the on-board computer.
- Finally, hold and release the odometer button for the third time and you can see the fault combination. In the case of self-checking, error codes will be presented in two-digit form, in contrast to diagnostics on equipment, where faults are presented in four-digit form.
Pressing the odometer button to carry out self-diagnosis of the VAZ 2115
The self-diagnosis procedure is performed as follows:
- When the ignition is turned off, the odometer daily mileage reset button is pressed.
- Then the key is installed in the switch and turned. It is rotated to the first position to activate the ignition system.
- After turning the key, the mileage reset button is released. The arrows on the speedometer, tachometer, fuel and engine temperature gauge will begin to move from the minimum value to the maximum.
- The daily mileage reset button is pressed again. An inscription with the board firmware version will be displayed on the instrument cluster.
- The button is pressed again. After this, VAZ 2114 error codes will begin to be displayed on the dashboard screen.
Deciphering the VAZ 2114 self-diagnosis error codes will help you identify vehicle malfunctions and understand what actions need to be taken.
The channel “Your Own Mechanic” talked about carrying out a self-diagnosis procedure on a VAZ 2114 car.
If the trouble codes have been corrected, you need to erase the Receipt from the ECU (electronic control unit) memory. Otherwise, the indicator will light up on the dashboard when there are actually no errors.
Step-by-step instruction:
- The ignition is activated, but the car engine does not start.
- The engine compartment of the car opens. Use a wrench to loosen the bolt that secures the terminal clamp to the negative terminal of the battery.
- Then you need to wait about a minute, then the battery terminal must be connected back.
- The engine compartment of the car is closed and the ignition is turned off.
- Then the power unit of the machine is started.
If the Check indicator continues to light, then you need to wait a while, it should disappear on its own. If the Check Engine light does not disappear from the dashboard, we can conclude that troubleshooting has not been performed.
User Ravil Shayakhmetov showed the procedure for independently removing the Check error from the dashboard of a VAZ car.
To delete the data remaining in the memory of the control unit, a repeated self-diagnosis of all systems is performed. Once error codes are displayed, the information is recorded. Pressing the daily mileage reset button again will delete the fault data from the ECU memory.
The Glaz Szalg channel spoke in detail about resetting errors in VAZ cars.
As practice shows, and the manufacturers of the VAZ-2115 themselves confirm, the on-board computer installed in this model, unfortunately, is not the most accurate, since the simplest sensor models are responsible for various problems. Self-diagnosis of the technical condition of the car allows you to get a two-digit code, that is, get a general idea of the car’s malfunction. To launch the analysis of the car's condition, it is enough to activate the odometer located on the instrument panel of the dashboard.
Even the designers of the VAZ plant admit that the model 2115 does not have the most accurate version of the on-board computer. The fact is that fairly simple sensors that do not provide specific data are responsible for detecting problems. Self-diagnosis gives two-digit codes and a general idea of the malfunction. To start it, just look at the instrument panel and find the special odometer button.
More detailed data can be obtained by connecting special equipment to the car’s computer or when it has issued an emergency code - during operation. In this case, four-digit codes are issued that indicate incorrect operation of the sensors in a particular node. For example, the air supply system involves several controllers that can indicate a problem with the engine's oxygen consumption.

Self-diagnosis using BC
The owner can identify the main error codes of Priora 8 and 16 valves using the built-in controller and on-board computer (BC), without resorting to the services of car service diagnosticians. To do this, you must activate the vehicle testing option. The arrows on the instrument panel move to the maximum possible position. Further manipulations are performed in the following sequence:
What does P0443 mean?
Trouble code P0443 means that a malfunction has been detected in the evaporative emission system purge valve circuit.
An evaporative vapor recovery (EVAP) system allows vapors from the gas tank to enter the engine for combustion instead of being released into the atmosphere. The engine control unit (ECU) controls the purge valve by opening it at a specific time, allowing fuel vapor to enter the engine.
The controller also monitors the valve control circuit for fault detection. When the valve is not turned on, the ECU should see high voltage on the ground wire.
When the valve is turned on, the controller should see that the voltage at ground is reduced, close to zero. If the control unit does not see these expected voltages or detects an open circuit, the P0443 code is set.
Errors Lada Kalina 1st generation - decoding
Important! The list can also be used for the VAZ Priora model - the digital codes are similar for both cars.
Exhaust gas outlet (0000)
The anti-lock braking system was developed when it became clear that when the wheels suddenly jam, the car loses stability and is difficult to control. Moreover, the quality of braking did not improve, and the car was pretty much carried off the road. Therefore, a system was developed that, by regulating the pressure in the brake system pipes, allows the wheels to turn slightly. This significantly improves vehicle dynamics, allowing the driver to control the vehicle more confidently. But despite its apparent simplicity, this is a rather complex process that requires the coordinated operation of many mechanisms included in the anti-lock braking system. If any of the components fails, a warning lamp lights up on the instrument panel.
You can often hear the question from drivers: “Why is the ABS sensor on?”
It is important to know that when the warning light comes on, it does not necessarily indicate a faulty wheel sensor.
Troubleshooting
After finding out the reason why the Priora or Kalina does not drive, it is necessary to correct the situation. If the coding indicates a break in the power supply to a structural element, you need to completely check the entire line and the device itself. It is better to do this by replacing parts with known good ones (new ones). It is also taken into account that standard connectors may become loose or fail over time. In such a situation, the computer will show errors even with a 100% working network. To detect such “surprises”, it is necessary to check all terminals and connections for oxidation, broken contacts or loosening - the elements must fit tightly in the sockets, without play.
Note! If you are unsure of your own abilities, the motorist is strongly recommended to seek help from a specialized workshop or a qualified technician.
Checking using a connected computer or tester
Driver Information Panel
Checking system malfunctions using connected devices gives more accurate results, but at the same time requires deciphering special codes. For example, the monitor displays code p0441 or p0130 or error p0422. Oh, these car manufacturers, in human language they could write “replace the oxygen sensor” instead of P0130 or “check the canister valve” instead of P0441. But nothing can be done, the Lada Priora is also intended for export, so it is easier to write p0441 in the program than to give explanations in Russian, Kazakh, Arabic, Armenian and 10 other languages. And then attach special tables that indicate the meaning of certain codes. Just look at them and everything will become clear. But these tables are not included with the operating instructions. Either way, you can check them out below.
All fault codes for Lada Priora car systems consist of 5 characters. Here is a breakdown of Prior's errors.

Priora bus CAN errors
You will need a call and help from specialists. If the system has generated a problem via CAN, independent repair will not bring results.
Trouble with cold Priora 16 valves, no errors
It is recommended to look for the cause in a faulty ignition system. Usually problems are hidden in high-voltage wires and spark plugs.
Failures in the idle speed system (IAC) and ESC
Note: in cases where the computer displays error codes that indicate a break in the electrical wiring of a device, before troubleshooting the problem and purchasing spare parts, you must first see if the electrical wiring plug has come out of the connector of the corresponding device. Such incidents happened. Testers and computers are, of course, good, but nothing can replace the eyes of a car enthusiast. Good luck with the repair.
The Priora panel showed error code 789E, how can I fix it? What does CO-3 mean? Issued by the on-board computer
Error 1602
If error 1602 appears on the on-board computer of the Lada Priora 16 valves, this means that the on-board voltage in the controller has dropped. As the experience of VAZ 2170 owners shows, error 1602 does not affect the operation of the car; if you remove the terminal from the battery, then 1602 will disappear, but after a while it will appear again. There may be several reasons for 1602:
- Problems with the generator. Measure its voltage; in good condition it produces 13.7-14 V.
- A large voltage drop during engine starting also leads to the appearance of 1602. The ECU records the voltage drop and automatically adjusts the time. First of all, you need to check the ground on the electronic control unit.
- Codes 1602 appear when the security system blocks one of the electrical circuits.

- A large voltage drop during engine starting also leads to the appearance of 1602. The ECU records the voltage drop and automatically adjusts the time. First of all, you need to check the ground on the electronic control unit.
- Codes 1602 appear when the security system blocks one of the electrical circuits.

Symptoms of malfunction
The main driver symptom of P0507 is the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light). It is also called Check engine or simply “check light”.
They can also appear as:
- The “Check engine” warning light on the control panel will light up (the code will be stored in memory as a malfunction).
- Floating speed, as well as attempts to stall at idle.
- Idle speed is higher or lower than normal.
- The engine may stall if the idle speed is not maintained by pressing the accelerator pedal.
Depending on the symptoms, the severity of a P0507 code can range from moderate to severe. Therefore, it is recommended to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
Reasons for error p0134
Unlike other errors in the ECU, code p0134 clearly indicates the original source of the problem - this is the first oxygen sensor of the catalyst. Therefore, the appearance of this error can only mean one thing: some problems have arisen in the lambda probe.
However, there may be several specific reasons for the error:
Using professional equipment to diagnose errors helps you quickly and accurately find out the cause of the problem. For example, if the auto scanner produces two errors at once - p0134 and p0171, then this indicates the presence of a short circuit in the network or a wiring break. Accordingly, it is possible to exclude a breakdown of the sensor itself as the cause of the malfunction.
According to existing statistics, in 95% of cases error p0134 appears due to a breakdown of the oxygen sensor itself. And only the remaining 5% of cases occur due to short circuit or insulation damage.
Error 0422
The efficiency of the Priora 16 neutralizer has fallen below the normal level - this is what error p0422 reports to the owner of the Lada Priora 16 valves. As practice shows, codes 0422 pop up quite rarely. If code 0422 appears on the on-board computer screen, then you need to perform the following steps:
- We examine the catalytic collector. Its body and filling must be in good condition;
- If damage is found, the catalytic collector should be replaced with a serviceable one;
- If the catalytic converter is not the cause of the message, then the remaining actions to eliminate p0422 must be entrusted to specialists from the service center.
p0504
Also, many owners of a Lada Priora with 16 valves have questions about the appearance of error p0504. She tells the owner that there is a malfunction in the brake pedal sensor. To find out the exact reason for the appearance of p0504, you need to remove the sensor and disassemble it
Pay attention to its springs, one of them could burst - replace the damaged part
Another reason is copper contacts, which can burn. Inspect them and clean them if necessary. Sometimes error p0504 pops up due to the incorrect position of the brake pedal sensor on Priora 16. Twist it and check whether codes p0504 remain on the screen or not.
p1558
This error usually occurs on cars with a 127 engine. It is associated with the throttle valve, the quality of which in this power plant leaves much to be desired. P1558 does not interfere with normal engine operation, but you can still try to fix it. Some people solve the problem by flashing it, but we offer a simpler method.
Remove the throttle valve, and then remove the cover - this can be done using a hexagon. We find a plastic gear inside - this is the working part. Lubricate the gear thoroughly and reassemble in reverse order. Most likely, error p1558 will disappear after these manipulations.

How to check errors on a VAZ 2115
To read car dashboard codes yourself, follow a simple sequence of steps.
- Insert the ignition key into the hole, but do not turn it.
- Press and hold the odometer button.
- Turn the key to position 1 and release the odometer button.
- Now all the arrows on the tidy will make 1 revolution and drop into place.
- You need to press the odometer button twice with an interval of 4-5 seconds.
- In the menu that opens, you can view existing faults.
What does P0562 mean?
12V is the average voltage of an electrical circuit. With the engine running normally, the voltage rises to 13.7 -14.7 Volts. First, the battery provides an electrical impulse to operate the starter and start the generator, then the generator begins to work and power the electrical circuit of the vehicle and charge the battery. Thus, the battery can last 5-7 years. But if the generator works poorly and does not provide the required voltage, the battery quickly becomes depleted and fails. electrical appliances and car devices work worse.
