One of AvtoVAZ’s best-selling models, the Lada Granta of the 2019 model year, has exactly doubled its family, adding station wagon and hatchback versions to the well-known sedan and liftback.
The page contains complete information about the new Lada Granta 2019 body, configurations and prices for all versions of the model - station wagon, hatchback, liftback and sedan, photos, technical specifications, owner reviews and video test drive.
Also, all the details about the restyling of the Lada Granta 2020 model year, the release date in Russia, photos, possible prices, configurations and all the latest news are already known.
Review
To add new hatchback and station wagon bodies, the designers did not have to work hard, because the basis for these versions was the well-known Kalina.
Yes, from 2022 both models will be combined into one, and the common name for them will be Lada Granta - a brand that, during its production, has collected much more positive reviews than Kalina.
The entire family of models, the Cross version will soon be added to them.
Thus, the 2022 Lada Granta is presented in 4 modifications: (another fifth one - Lada Granta Cross - is planned to be added to the line in the fall):
- sedan,
- liftback,
- hatchback,
- station wagon
At the same time, absolutely all versions will receive a single front design and several variations of the stern.
The general idea of the AvtoVAZ designers who restyled the new Lada Granta is visible to the naked eye: like the flagship Vesta model, here it was decided to turn to the nice X-style, which predetermined the characteristic location of the head optics and radiator grille, as well as the original chrome trims, visually connecting the headlights to the new bumper.
Moldings on the sides of the car, painted in the color of the doors, are also common to all body variants of the Lada Granta 2022. It seems that here the manufacturer did not dare to use the famous X-shaped stamping, which still continues to attract conflicting opinions regarding its aesthetics. Rear view mirrors with built-in turn signals will also be installed on the Grant as a base.
The instrument panel, which is a redesigned version of the panel from the latest Kalinas, will also be the same for all modifications.
From now on, any Lada Granta of the 2022 model year will flaunt an interior with rectangular central ventilation deflectors, white illumination of controls, a Vesta-style dashboard and an X-shaped decor on the center console.
Among other new products that the updated Lada Granta 2019 model year received: soft vibration-proof fender liners in the wheel arches, which are designed to improve resistance to impacts of small stones flying out from under the wheels, and wider seats with enlarged headrests.
As for the exterior of the rear of the Granta, it will entirely depend on the body type.
New Generation
The “second” Grant will use the modernized Globak Access platform ( B0 ), developed by Renault. The same platform is planned to be used in the next generations of Logan.
Interestingly, the Renault platform being prepared for the new Granta is quite universal - it will also be used in the next generation of the off-road Lada 4x4. This solution is not new and has already been used in the Duster and Logan models.
All cars using the same platform will roll off the Togliatti assembly line. By 2022, Renault, which owns the domestic AvtoVAZ, plans to increase car production volumes, bringing them to a million units per year in numerical terms. All produced models will receive a unified platform.
Nobody knows what the new generation will look like, these are just designers’ imaginations
New body and prices
It’s too early to talk about the appearance and prices of the new Granta: the design is still in the process of development, and the cost is of course expected to increase: AvtoVAZ is gradually moving away from the image of a manufacturer of budget cars (just look at the prices of Vesta and Xray), how far it will go - time will tell .
release date
According to some data, the next Granta will appear by 2023 , but there is information that this could happen earlier - by 2021 . It is already known who will lead this project. Vasily Batishchev, who was still working on the creation of the “first” generation, was appointed chief engineer, and Olga Bazhanova, who was previously responsible for Priora, will become the project manager.
Before being presented to Grant in a new body, the existing model will undergo a small facelift in 2022 (see above). At the same time, the Kalina model range may cease to exist, and its modifications will be included in the Granta family.
Granta has been produced since 2011 and is available in liftback and sedan versions. The model is equipped with 106-, 98- or 87-horsepower engines with a displacement of 1.6 liters. There is also a sports modification of the Grant, where the same power unit is boosted to 114 “horses”. The transmission is represented by an “automatic” with 4 ranges or “mechanics” with 5 steps.
Lada Granta is currently available at a price starting from 399 thousand rubles.
Sedan
In this version, the rear of the Lada Granta 2022 has undergone the greatest changes, since the trunk lid has simultaneously received both a seat for the license plate and a stylish tail spoiler.
According to the designers, all this was conceived with the goal of making the rear bumper less heavy and narrow than that of the predecessor sedan. As for the volume of the luggage compartment, the sedan is ready to offer a quite decent 520 liters (without the possibility of increasing). The price of the 2022 Grant in this version will be no less than 419,900 rubles.
Hatchback
The rear of this variation of the new body of the Lada Granta 2022 is compact, which is further emphasized by small lights extended vertically to the level of the upper edge of the rear window.
At the same time, on the hatchback bumper, unlike other modifications, there are running lights. Oddly enough, but a modest trunk with a volume of 240 liters. did not make this car cheaper than the liftback: in the basic configuration it will cost the buyer the same 436,900 rubles.
Station wagon
This is the most expensive version of the Grant at the beginning of 2022 (before the release of the Cross version), which, however, is also not very impressive in size due to the somewhat shortened rear part.
Here it is worth noting the presence of quite expressive optics and a trunk capable of providing from 360 to 700 liters of volume (taking into account the folded backrests of the rear row seats). The price of this version in the basic configuration will start at 446,900 rubles.
Interior
Technical stuffing
The Lada Granta 2022 model year can be equipped with a 1.6-liter eight-valve engine (87 hp), which is the base engine, which is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission.
A more powerful sixteen-valve unit of the same displacement (98 hp) will be supplied with a Jatco 4-speed automatic transmission, and the most powerful 106-horsepower power plant in the line will be available with a standard “mechanics” or a full-fledged “robot” AMT.
An interesting new feature is the change in gear ratios in the manual transmission and ATM: now it is 3.9:1 instead of 3.7:1.
This solution is intended to have a positive effect on the dynamics of the car and save from 0.5 to 1 second when accelerating to “hundreds”.
In addition, the “robot” of the new Lada Granta 2022 will be retrofitted with the so-called. creeping mode, which will force the car to move when the brake pedal is released. There is also an additional Sport mode, which shortens the time intervals between gear changes.
Otherwise, the technical equipment of the 2022 Lada Granta does not differ from that of its predecessor cars, with the exception of the presence of the ERA-GLONASS emergency warning system, which will now be installed on all Grants produced.
Selecting the optimal Lada Granta Cross station wagon
Cross with eight-valve 1.6 (87 hp) and manual transmission in the basic Classic configuration costs 559,900 rubles. The surcharge for a 16-valve valve of the same volume is 15,000, for a “robot” – another 25 thousand. Red Aurum, like other metallics, will cost 6,000 rubles.
Having merged two models into a common family under the banner of restyling, AvtoVAZ got rid of the name Kalina. Now they are all Grants: hatchback, liftback, sedan and station wagon. The latter became the basis for the all-terrain version - Lada Granta Cross entered the market almost a year later than other modifications. For us, this is our first acquaintance with a representative of the updated line of the most affordable front-wheel drive vehicles from Tolyatti. To complete the picture, we took two cars: with a manual transmission and an AMT “robot”.
Before restyling, Kalina Cross existed in the VAZ range, and Granta is not very different from it. Thanks to this, she not only looked like the older Vesta, but also grew by 44 mm due to the front overhang extended by the bumper. The interior remained recognizably Kalinovsky, although the button illumination changed from green to white, and additional decor appeared around the central ventilation deflectors.
The ergonomic features are generally inherited. The steering column still does not have a reach adjustment. True, all Crosses are equipped with new front seats with height adjustment and poor lateral support. Alas, even in the lowest position you sit a little higher than you want. Visibility is excellent. But the build quality is traditionally inconsistent. In an attempt to close the window, you pull the window lifter button towards yourself and pull the entire block out of the armrest.
It is incorrect to compare head-on the same-named configurations of regular and elevated station wagons. For example, the top-end Luxe version of the Cross has parking sensors in the rear bumper and a light sensor. In the more democratic Comfort, the cross-country Granta is richer in climate control, which even in a single-zone version is more convenient than an air conditioner. You can roughly estimate that the surcharge for increased ground clearance by 18 mm, larger wheels and a practical body kit made of unpainted plastic is about thirty thousand rubles.
It’s a shame that for the Cross the stabilization system is not offered at all, while in any of the Grants it can be obtained by raising the level of equipment to the maximum Luxe Prestige. Cross is also deprived of a four-speed Jatco automatic transmission: all two-pedal cars are equipped with a modified AMT robot. We already met him at Vesta, but there he assists the 122-horsepower 1.8 engine. Granta has a different engine, and the displacement is two hundred cubic meters more modest.
On the outside, our two 16-valve station wagons produce 106 hp. absolutely the same. And in the cabin of a car with an AMT “robot”, the selector is only partially reminiscent of West’s. It has the same pad as in Vesta, but the lever itself and the podium are different. There is no parking position. The engine should be started in neutral, and can be turned off in gear. Then in the parking lot it is not necessary to secure the car with the handbrake.
The finished AMT gearbox works tolerably well. I liked her on Grant even more than on Vesta. When driving calmly, the “robosarai” is generally a good boy: it starts off confidently, quickly shifts up and is a little impudent, with a shift downwards. As the pace increases, pauses in switching increase, which are characteristic of all “robots” of this type, but this is not very annoying. With the creeping mode it became easier in traffic jams: release the brake - you roll. However, the clutch works with slippage, and Granta still protects it. After standing for a while, the clutch opens, and when gas is added, it closes with a slight delay.
Outside the asphalt, the “robot” does not cause much trouble. The clutch operates smoothly and it is convenient to control the traction. On developed terrain, there is a lack of an assistant when starting on a climb, which only regular Grants have. In order to move uphill without recoil, you have to assist the box with the parking brake lever. It is better not to allow one of the drive wheels to hang out, but to overcome the folds of the terrain while moving. Highly located bumpers do not give much reason to fear for their safety.
A station wagon with a manual drives about the same on rough roads. In theory, manual control allows you to manage traction more efficiently, but in practice, you can completely stall on a climb, which I was not able to do with the “robot”. And yet, it is the three-pedal Cross that leaves the most pleasant impression, allowing you to make full use of the engine’s capabilities.
In the city it’s easier to start on time and quickly integrate into the flow, and on the highway it’s easier to overtake. The cable mechanism is well tuned, the clarity of switching does not raise any questions. The accelerator drive is sensitive, the responsiveness is almost carburetor-like. I don’t see the point of paying even 25 thousand extra for a “robot”. According to statistics, Grants in general and Cross in particular are usually purchased with a manual transmission, and only every tenth buyer chooses two-pedal cars.
The ability of VAZ cars to drive differently, even if they belong to the same batch, has been repeatedly noted. Ours are managed the same way. The Kaluga electric power steering provides them with a light steering wheel with a clear zero position and a logical increase in reactive force. Both Ladas immediately respond to the steering wheel’s deflection with a roll, coming to the arc with a slight delay and turning slightly as it develops. Both begin to slide their front axles to the outside of the turn early due to the modest grip properties of the Pirelli Cinturato P1 tires.
But the two Grants slow down differently. The one with “mechanics” is disappointing with its weak brakes. The free play of the pedal is indecently large, the moment of operation is difficult to predict. The drive in a station wagon with a “robot” works much better. No differences were noticed in the suspension operation. Any of the Grants pleases with excellent smoothness and some kind of exorbitant energy intensity. At the same time, Granta Cross no longer suffers from the early response of shock absorbers on rebound, which is characteristic of the “cross” Kalina.
Apart from AvtoVAZ, no one else offers inexpensive “sheds”. The main competitor of the economic Grant is its own Largus, which was minimally updated in the summer. The most popular (41% of sales) is the Granta station wagon in the inexpensive Classic configuration for 505,500 rubles. The most popular Largus Classic is more expensive: 624–677 thousand. By the standards of the segment, the price difference is noticeable, but people are willing to pay extra for the more spacious Largus, which, based on the results of the first half of 2019, sells three and a half times better than the Granta.
Largus, like Granta, has a Cross version, and it accounts for as much as 38% of Largus sold. The upbeat Granta has not yet gained momentum, but the results of the first month suggest good potential. Moreover, the Grant Cross is taken at the top, albeit with “mechanics”. Well, we must not forget that crossovers accounted for 65% of sales of Kalina station wagons. Cross looks more elegant, and a couple of centimeters under the belly are not superfluous. So we can assume that subsequently at least half of all sold "sheds" of the Granta family will be cross-matched.

Reviews of the new Lada GRANTA 2018: 3 comments
As a grant owner, I will say that the car is excellent for the money. Yes, it has some disadvantages, which mainly relate to comfort and convenience. But most importantly, it is practical and, attention, reliable! Before the grant, I had an almost new foreign car, and it began to crumble after 50 thousand. First in small things, then more and more. In the end, I decided to sell and get a new vase, which I don’t regret at all!
Before buying, I read reviews from other owners, so I expected the worst, but after the purchase I realized that I was worrying in vain. The only drawback is comfort, mostly acoustic, you can of course make noise, but I’m not a fan of all this, and it doesn’t bother me much, one might say I’m used to it.
But the suspension is classy, the engine is fast, the ground clearance is like a crossover, the trunk is huge. What else is needed?
Thank you for your feedback, if you can tell me more about comfort, do the front windows go all the way down and what is the equipment?
We also bought granta. For a long time we thought about what would be better to take, at first we thought about taking a Renault model. There are noticeably more of them, later my husband looked at all the reviews about the fret, our old car is 21083, it’s already an old lady... decide on a new one! We ordered it to order with a full set, according to my husband, with everything possible. Power windows on 4 windows, which is very convenient, the trunk is a fairy tale compared to our old 8, the heated mirror. Even the front glass is heated. There are two heated seats, there is an air conditioner... overall it’s a cool car. The trunk opens with a button both from the interior and on the key... the car has 15 alloy wheels... I’m writing according to my husband... I don’t drive like that myself, but I couldn’t resist writing... emotions and... it’s a funny color, we bought it golden brown, another name is coriander. In general, the husband is happy, the only thing that bothers him is the grip. Perhaps now all new cars and foreign cars have it like this... but I’m very pleased with it. I wish AvtoVAZ continued prosperity. Delight ordinary people with new domestic cars. As I say now, it’s a Russian foreign car here)))) I won’t say exactly how much it cost, but somewhere around 550 thousand.. we had a small problem with the covers; we found model covers on the market for a grant. The seats in the back didn't suit us for luxury, our car was new, they made it in April-May 18, perhaps the seats were slightly different in comfort, they were a little upset .. we will change them) in general, the car is cool, in terms of comfort it is very cool. I even really liked that there was bluetooth in the radio. that is, they set up the phone and put it in the glove compartment .. there are buttons on the panel that will turn the bell on and off if someone calls, even the panel shows the phone number of who is calling... we tried to talk to my husband, a very clear conversation, he sits behind the wheel, but there is nothing in his ears, his hands are not busy with the phone ... a very convenient thing.. especially for those who drive a lot..... there is even a rain sensor, the wipers work themselves when it rains.. I’ll be honest, I’m not an expert in cars.. but this swallow of ours amazed me..... the suspension is also good on these cars practically you don’t even feel the bumps…..it goes smoothly….I’m just comparing it with our 8th wheel..it’s already 21 years old..so we started thinking about changing the car. I wish everyone good luck. Thank you. Many thanks to our consultant Mikhail. Very polite and very cool. Good luck.
in Lada Granta 02/24/2019 3,
The station wagon represented by the inexpensive Lada Granta in a new body is in demand among motorists. This vehicle from a domestic manufacturer attracts with its low cost and quite comfortable interior.
Today, reviews from owners are found everywhere, so they are worth considering, and most importantly, harmonizing criticism and praise. Reviews of the Lada Granta station wagon should be taken with a grain of salt, because many are biased towards the car. Although the main advantages and disadvantages can still be seen.
