The most popular car in Russia should be reliable and inexpensive. These are the main components of the model’s success in the domestic market. Crossovers are not the cheapest cars per se, but in the top ten bestsellers, five positions belong to them.
Despite the different price category, the formula for success in Russia for crossovers remains the same - reliability and affordable price. So far, in this regard, the Lada XRAY, as a domestically produced model, enjoys a certain credibility, despite the shortage of spare parts that arose at the beginning of sales and their unexpectedly high cost.
In 2016, XRAY sales were just gaining momentum, but at the beginning of 2017, certain conclusions can already be drawn. So far, the model occupies 8th position, behind the Renault Duster and slightly ahead of the Chevrolet Niva. Overall not bad. If this continues, then we can say that the Lada XRAY has become a successful model.
It will be very difficult to fight Lada XRAY competitors. You need to clearly understand that its success will be brighter, the greater the price difference with competing models. At the beginning of 2022, Renault Duster costs about 639,000 rubles. while XRAY starts at a price of 520,000 rubles.
Is the difference noticeable? In numbers, yes, plus the basic equipment in the Lada XRAY will be richer. We won’t list all the options; power windows, passenger airbags and driver’s seat height adjustment are sufficient.

The body design will not receive any major changes – we are talking about a modification, and not about another model. Designers will play a little with individual details, leaving the global image of the car intact. We will see a more powerful bumper and plastic protection on the fenders and doors.
The architecture and shape of the rear lights will change, they will become more complex and attractive. The headlights will be complemented by running lights made from LED elements.
Interior of the new crossover
An increased wheelbase will invariably lead to increased interior space in the vehicle. The luggage compartment will increase, which is important. The creators promise to significantly improve the quality of finishing materials. Armchairs will have another solution. Their finishing will be done using a combination of fabric and leather.
Details in the body color should add some charm to the interior. Lada XRAY Cross 2022 will receive equipment sufficient for minimal comfort. We will definitely see things like heated seats, navigation, climate control and Bluetooth. A multifunctional leather-covered steering wheel will be available, duplicating some systems.

Although the Lada Xray is built on the same platform as the Renault Sandero Stepway, it is larger in size. Before X-Ray, I calmly drove a right-hand drive 18-year-old Vitz. This car is generally worthy of a separate review. Fast, cheap to maintain, easy to park everywhere. Not a single bug on the car, everything works, the only breakdowns are a dead battery and waste in the form of oil, pads, etc. In short, the car is fire. But the life situation changed, a child was born, plus we moved out of town. Low ground clearance, small trunk, etc. forced us to part with Witz. Another proof of the problem-free nature of this machine, despite the fact that it was built in 2000 and is right-hand drive, I sold it in exactly one day! And at the same price that I bought it at the time. Vitz is generally a reserve currency, regardless of time, their prices are fixed)
The choice of a new car began with the rules. I didn’t want sedans, etc., I chose something like a jeep, crossover, etc. With the current duties, I couldn’t find anything I needed in a budget of 500-600 thousand. I didn’t like the Proboxes and Raktis, although they are very decent devices. The choice was made on Mitsubishi Pajero Mini and Toyota Rumion. Rumion dropped out due to low ground clearance, these are again the same problems that we had with Witz. Mini also refused Pajero. High consumption, expensive spare parts, CVT, which is not nearly as reliable as an automatic. And the final price, taking into account the button, was 650 thousand. Well, in these simple ways I reached X-Ray. I sat and looked and liked the car. The final price tag turned out to be 750 thousand. 1.8 l, AMT, Puma color (I’ll upload photos later). The equipment is almost complete, with the exception of parking sensors, they are outrageously expensive from the officials.

Xray production started on December 15, 2015, and sales began on December 14, 2016 in 56 cities with 120 dealers. In the spring, the cars arrived at other dealers. The center console features a large and bright touchscreen display that allows you to easily control all multimedia functions. It also contains several necessary buttons and handles.
The dashboard is quite solid and informative. The steering wheel is upholstered in leather and has several buttons. It fits very well in the driver's hands; drivers note its responsiveness.
We can also talk about an interesting solution related to the color scheme of the interior. Several inserts were added, painted in the colors of the body, which looks bright and unusual.
The Sport version received a fundamentally different design. It is much darker, with metal elements and specially rough stitched fabric inserts. The seats in this version are new, sporty, with additional lateral support, and more rigid.

In technical terms, the Lada X-Ray 2022 will receive several power plant options. In the Cross version, the crossover will be equipped with gasoline engines with a volume of 1.6 and 1.8 liters and producing power of 114 and 123 hp. respectively. The more charged Sport version will now receive a 1.8-liter unit with a power of as much as 150 hp. In the morning of the same day there was an unsuccessful attempt to purchase at Warsaw, where they fundamentally disagreed on the quality of the new car. So I called a couple of other salons, incl. this. Manager Oleg Shek called me back and said that there were no cars in my configuration, but he had already ordered from the central warehouse, he would arrive in 2 hours, just when I got there. The conversation was much longer, because I really didn’t want to wait for the car, but in the end he said that the car alarm would be free, this convinced me, I came there. The car was transported for longer than 2 hours, and in addition to the signaling, there were also unnecessary extras, but they still cost less than the signaling, so the cost was even a little cheaper than in the previous salon. This car was already normal, I didn’t find any problems with it, we spent the rest of the day completing the paperwork. The registration process was very long, especially at the last stage, before the issuance of the title. Washed, inspected, polished and got insurance pretty quickly, the loan lasted longer. I found inaccuracies in the documents once or twice, incl. in the passport data were redone, this also delayed the process. In general, the impression was good, once again special thanks to Oleg. I was the last one to leave in a new car at 8:30 p.m., although the salon is open until 8:00 p.m., people sat and completed all the paperwork for me.

One of the most anticipated new products from AvtoVAZ was the off-road version of the company’s first crossover – X-Ray. Previously, the car performed normally only on paved roads; when leaving the highway, the car simply stopped. Restyling will somewhat improve this situation. But it also behaves decently on the highway, we drove it to the Black Sea coast, 3,000 km there back - comfortable and economical, although there was not much space, 4 people drove, everyone fit in and did not complain), along the highway at 120-130 km / h and the climate control is turned on, the car behaves adequately and does not stall. Very obedient car!
