Review of VAZ Vesta SW 1.6 (2020)

Good afternoon. It’s too early to write a review about the car, I’ll try to write how I chose the car and my first impressions of the car, maybe someone will be interested, in any case, I read people’s reviews when choosing a car, so let’s go..

I didn’t have many cars—at all. My first car is a KIA Spectra, my wife’s car is a Peugeout 408 and that’s about it. So my experience with cars is more than modest. And so I decided to buy a new car, my choice was limited by a number of criteria:

— budget up to 1,000,000 rubles, even this amount is gigantic for me, not so much physically as morally; I’m absolutely not ready to spend big on a car.

— only new (well, that’s my quirk)

— interior/exterior beauty

— inexpensive spare parts and maintenance (hello Peugeot)

— comfort (no less than Spectra)

Analysis of price data (still the main parameter) gave me a list of cars:

— Logan

— RIO

— Solaris

— Rapid

— Polo

— Vesta, XRay, Granta

And so I went to the salons, they immediately dropped out: Logan (I didn’t like the look and feel of the interior, and the price was not budget; I had no options), Polo (small salon - didn’t suit me, crossed it out), Rapid (I liked everything, but expensive), Granta (the price was horrifying, the interior is terrible - the price/quality is below par), there were RIO/Solaris, Vesta/XRay. I started looking at these 4 models, reading reviews, etc. Externally, I really liked the Solaris sedan and RIO hatchback, I also liked the Vesta SW, but I crossed out XRay because of the size of the interior. According to reviews and characteristics, Solaris and RIO are approximately the same, so for simplicity I will combine them. As a result, there are no particularly negative reviews about RIO: a comfortable, reliable car for all occasions, LADA is full of contradictions from praise to terrible negativity. I visited the salon again, looked at Solaris and RIO, I didn’t even go to Solaris, I don’t even know why, somehow I didn’t like the salon and the price was more than RIO, so I made up my mind, decided to buy a KIA, came and found a kit with a 1.4 engine 880 K according to the website, 920 from 1.6. Well, with my heart creaking, I persuaded myself to go to the salon, but it’s not so simple, it’s not in stock, but we can bring it in this color, but here we have to add for this, that, etc. and in the end it all came down to 1,100,000 - 1,200,000 per car in an acceptable time frame with an acceptable configuration and color of interest, STOP I thought, this is above the budget and went to the neighboring LADA showroom.

I was met by a polite but not intrusive manager, offered a test drive and offered cars in stock at a discount. Cost 850,000 for a station wagon, brown color, Nissan engine, CVT gearbox. I drove it for a drive and it drives fine and holds the road well. In a word, I liked it, they filled out the documents, registered a family car - 10% of the cost, it came out to 770,000, overall my toad was happy. I’m confused about the reliability of the car in general, the corrosion resistance of the body and the reliability of the variator (the reviews are painfully contradictory), but I still decided and now I’m a happy owner.

Now about the car itself:

I’m really happy; compared to the Spectrum, this is a really different level of car. The dynamics are sufficient, the headlights are like spotlights, the noise level is excellent: you can’t hear the road, the interior doesn’t rattle, the interior and trunk capacity is excellent. There are only advantages, so to speak, so far there are no disappointments, so there’s nothing more to say, we’ll see what happens at least at 10-15 thousand, but for now it’s FIRE.

What I didn’t like: On the Spectra, when you stop driving, when you open the driver’s door, the lights/dimensions go out, there’s nothing there, you have to turn it off with your hands - it’s not convenient, again on the Spectrum you could wave the wipers once if necessary, here not - either turn on the wipers or wave wipers with washing the windshield, a trifle, but annoying.

Lada Vesta is a great car for the money. I am a mechanic with extensive experience. There were problems during the run-in. After 10,000 km I did the brain firmware. The car is unrecognizable. The robot began to work like a clock. The engine began to pull much better. This car cannot even be compared with Solaris, Rio and Sid. In many respects it surpasses them. The salon is quieter than in the Koreans. Excellent cross-country ability in snow. Good capacity.

Appearance, comfort in the front and rear seats. The trunk volume is normal for this class of car. Handling is normal, although the hydraulic booster could be better than the Chinese.

Good ground clearance, smooth ride, handling, design, very good trunk capacity, also good interior capacity, comfortable seats.

Large, roomy, warm, (more than once I had to spend the night in the car) seems to be reliable (pah-pah, don’t jinx it). I can’t say anything about consumption since I drive on gas, the consumption is 10 liters. The interior does not make any knocks or creaks, although I don’t always drive on asphalt and there is gravel for 100-150 km. I’m really surprised that the chassis on the Lada Vesta still endures everything (before this, the Viburnum was 100 thousand km away? the chassis just fell apart) I repeat, I don’t always drive on asphalt, and even here we have asphalt! A large trunk is why there was a choice.

Lada Vesta 2022 will receive engines known to all fans of the brand, the characteristics of which everyone has long learned by heart - a 1.6-liter unit with 106 horsepower and a 1.8 with 122 horsepower. Naturally, both options are powered by gasoline fuel. They will be supported by five-speed gearboxes with automatic or manual gear shifting modes. The front part, as before, is short. It starts with a small hood cover, on which you can find some relief, represented by indentations on the sides. The bumper itself is shaped like the letter “X”. On top are large rectangular headlights that illuminate the road with halogen lights. Between the optics there is a narrow strip of the radiator grille, which continues at the bottom. The body kit of the new Lada Vesta 2022 includes two small recesses for fog lights and several more modest cutouts for supplying air to the engine compartment and for the braking system. All of them are trimmed with chrome around the perimeter. The side of the car is also decorated with an X-shaped relief. The new body didn't let us down either at the rear. The bumper doesn't take up much space here.

Salon

As before, the interior of the model will be at an average level - far from premium, but definitely not poor. The new Lada Vesta 2021 model year will be finished with good quality plastic, fabric and even artificial leather. The equipment of the car will also improve slightly.

A huge touchscreen display of the multimedia system will appear on the center console, which now contains even more modern options. Next to it you can see two vertically placed deflectors and a panel with buttons and washers, thanks to which the climate control system and heating of the first row of seats are adjusted.

The steering wheel will remain unchanged. It will still be the same massive steering wheel with a fabric braid, a solid center and dimensional spokes, on which several buttons are located to control the necessary multimedia. There is still a lot of space reserved for the dashboard, on which there are three huge wells with dial gauges inside. The one on the right is filled with the on-board computer screen.

The car's seats remain extremely simple, but some work has been done to improve their comfort level. So, they have become much softer and more comfortable, received higher-quality upholstery fabric, some semblance of lateral support and even electrical adjustment, although only in the first row and in the top-end configuration. They can also always be heated. The second-row sofa has improved both in quality and in spaciousness. Although it is not equipped with additional options, it still remains very comfortable.

The capacity of the luggage compartment will not change - 475 liters in the basic version. It can be increased three times if you remove the second row sofa.
