Behind the steering wheel there is a dashboard with 2 shallow “wells” and a monochrome screen located between them, displaying information from the trip computer. Visually everything looks good, but readability suffers.

The center console has a 7-inch multimedia system screen, which has touch control. Below it are two deflectors of the ventilation system, which have a rectangular appearance and a neat music control unit. Next comes the climate system settings panel, which is represented by 3 round controls.

During the assembly of the interior of the updated Lada Priora, inexpensive, mostly hard plastic was used. The center console is finished in black lacquer, and the seats are upholstered in fabric. As for the assembly of the sedan itself, no questions arise, but noticeable joints can be seen between individual elements. Top modifications will receive an advanced multimedia system (CD, MP3, USB and Bluetooth). Optionally, you can install a navigation system that recognizes GPS and GLONASS signals.

Inside, there are wide front “Prior” seats, which have an optimal cushion length and are almost deprived of lateral support. They can only be adjusted in the longitudinal direction over fairly large ranges. The designers also provided for the function of three-stage heated seats. The sofa located at the back was configured for 2 passengers, so a third person would be clearly uncomfortable.

This is clearly visible from the protruding transmission tunnel and only two headrests. There is plenty of free space above your head, but not enough in front of your feet. A central armrest is offered as a convenience. The luggage compartment of the updated Lada Priora sedan has 430 liters of usable space.

It’s a shame, but there is no provision for increasing the volume – there is only a folding central section, but the backrest cannot be folded. A full-size spare tire is placed under the trunk floor, but wheel arch extensions and open luggage compartment lid hinges slightly reduce the resource for transporting luggage.

The updated version received a pair of gasoline engines and 2 gearboxes. As the “junior” representative, they chose the VAZ-21126 in-line 1.6-liter four-cylinder power plant, which received a 16-valve DOHC gas distribution system and distributed gasoline injection technology.

This “engine” generates 98 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. Such an engine was synchronized with a five-speed “mechanics”, which received a cable drive. It will take 11.5 seconds to accelerate to the speed mark of 100 km/h, and the top speed is 183 kilometers per hour.

We decided to use the 4-cylinder 1.6-liter version of the VAZ-21127 as the “top” option. The engine received a modified fuel injection system and dynamic supercharging. All this allows the engine to produce 106 horsepower and 148 Nm. The power unit of the Lada Priora works with a manual gearbox, as well as with a 5-band “robot” with the option of manual gear shifting.

With a manual transmission, the car accelerates to the first hundred in 11.5 seconds, but with a robotic gearbox this figure rises to 12.6 seconds. The maximum speed does not exceed 183 kilometers per hour. Two power plants meet Euro-4 environmental standards. The weakest “engine” requires 6.9 liters of gasoline, and more powerful engines “eat” from 6.6 to 6.8 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle.

At the beginning of 2016, they decided not to use the 98-horsepower power plant of the updated Lada Priora in new models. It was replaced by a new basic version, representing a petrol, four-cylinder naturally aspirated, 1.6-liter unit. The engine has an 8-valve gas distribution mechanism and a distributed gasoline injection system.

We decided to use the platform from the Lada 110 as the basis, but it was slightly changed. At the front there is an independent suspension with standard McPherson struts, and at the rear there is a semi-independent suspension with an elastic cross member. There are anti-roll bars at the front and rear.

Brake system

The braking system has ventilated disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The sedan is controlled using rack and pinion steering, supplemented by an electromechanical amplifier. The simplest version has a hydraulic booster.

Body rigidity and anti-corrosion coating

In this category, the VAZ-2110 has positive qualities, since the body of this car is made more successfully. It is stiffer than 2114 and much more resistant to corrosion. This fact can be confirmed by experienced car owners who moved from a VAZ-2110 to a 2114. Under similar operating conditions, the body of the VAZ-2114 becomes corroded faster than the 2110.

The design of these two cars is puzzling for several reasons. But if we need to compare exactly two generations of VAZ front-wheel drive cars, then it would be logical to start with the design, since they are met anyway by their clothes. So 2114 doesn’t fit into any gates even with the design of the late 80s. What the designers wanted to say by covering the entire nine with cheap plastic is unclear, but this act looks like a mockery of the people’s favorite five-door hatchback.
