On Lada Vesta multimedia systems (MMS), CityGID is used as navigation software. If you update cards according to standard instructions, the process may take up to 30 minutes. However, it is possible to install cards in a simpler way, which may be much faster and more convenient for you.
Lada 2109 › Logbook › Replacing cylinder block plugs
Petr Ivanov, 21 years old I drive a Lada 2109 Orenburg, Russia
Greetings to all those who read my blog. I haven’t come here and written for a long time, but I’ll try to restore all these gaps, but for now I’ll tell you about the problem that happened to me with my favorite machine. In general, it was like this: I go out to my car in the morning, start it, it heats up to 50 degrees, I turn on the heater and cold air is blowing, although at this temperature I already have warm air, well, I think, okay, it’s a VAZ, so when I get to the institute, the operating temperature is a little higher It’s 90 degrees and it’s blowing warm, but then I knew for sure that something was wrong. After college, I come home, open the hood and there the antifreeze reservoir is empty, so naturally I top it up and everything falls into place, everything seems to be in order. The next day I go out to the car and see a puddle of antifreeze under the engine, I start looking for where it came from, approximately behind the engine, I thought at first about the so-called “golden pipe”, but no, I ran my hand there and everything was dry. In bewilderment, I didn’t understand anything, I called a friend for help, they hooked my car up on a cable and dragged it to the pit, where they realized that it was leaking from the engine plugs, that is, the plugs. Well, initially I didn’t even suspect that they existed, after I called a mechanic I knew, he told me what’s what and how and why it’s there. It turned out that the antifreeze plugs on the engine were rusty, he said buy original ones, I emphasize the VAZ plugs and change them. Why did I focus on the original ones, because I bought non-original ones, but in the store they said that they were original, so I believed them, although they immediately raised doubts in me, after which I suffered for a long time with them, which I don’t wish for you and I warn you against counterfeiting. Well, then the most interesting thing is, of course, the photos.
Removed the first leaking plug
They didn’t give up without a fight, I had to bend them, but that’s not important, the main thing was to get rid of them)))
All plugs at the rear of the engine have been removed and one new one has been removed.
And here it is, the main thing in front of you. On the right, the original cork costs 90 rubles per set (5 pcs) and on the left is a fake cooperative; otherwise, it absolutely does not fit; it costs 50 rubles per set; in the middle there is an old cork, you can also identify the original from the cooperative by the fact that the original has smooth edges Traffic jams at the cooperative are uneven, so be on your guard.
This is a puller made from pipes of different diameters) something like this
You dig it out in any way, you won’t damage the block, then you take the plug (it came from a VAZ-2109) and use a copper adapter without sealant or any nonsense to hammer it in so that it fits in smoothly and that’s it. It’s more convenient, of course, when the block is removed, but it’s still possible to sneak around.
Flushing the engine cooling system yourself
It's no secret that the engine cooling system (ECS) can become clogged after a certain time. When the circulation of fluid in this system is disrupted, the stove begins to work poorly and the engine overheats. Do you know how to properly flush the cooling system yourself? |

Preparing for work:
- ?place the car on a horizontal, level platform, or so that its front part is higher than the rear.
- ?disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
- On VAZ-2110, -2112 engines the plug on the cylinder block is easily accessible, but to access it on the VAZ-2111 engine you will need to remove the ignition module.
To drain the coolant you will need:
- Remove the expansion tank plug.
- Place a container under the engine and unscrew the drain plug on the cylinder block.
- Place a container under the radiator and unscrew the drain plug on the radiator.
After all the coolant has drained out of the system, screw the plugs into the cylinder block and radiator. To prevent air locks from forming as the system is filled with coolant (the coolant will not completely fill the system), you should:
- If you have an injection engine, then loosen the clamp and disconnect the coolant supply hose from the throttle pipe heating fitting.
- If the engine is carburetor, then disconnect the hose from the carburetor heating fitting.
Fill the engine cooling system by pouring coolant into the expansion tank until the level is at the top edge of the expansion tank mounting belt. Close the expansion tank cap.
- ?Connect the hose back to the throttle pipe or carburetor heating fitting (depending on the engine model). Reinstall the ignition module and negative battery cable.
- ?Start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature (before turning on the fan). After this, turn off the engine, check the coolant level, and if necessary, add it to the same level.
Warning
When the engine is running, monitor the coolant temperature according to the gauge. If the arrow moves to the red zone and the fan does not turn on, turn on the heater and check what kind of air flows through it:

↑ How to update the program
How to restore windshield wiper blades: we consider different methods
The relevance of the information provided by the standard CityGuide navigation system can only be ensured if it is regularly updated. The software update for Lada Vesta is downloaded from the website www.probki.net/vaz/. The latest CityGuide updates were released on May 15, 2018 in version 7.9.7.238. To download files, you must log in to the site. The storage capacity for downloading updates must be at least 4 Gb. The best option is a MicroCD with an adapter to a CD formatted under the FAT 32 system.
The distribution package and navigation maps are loaded as an archive, so before starting the update, you need to unzip the data and save software updates in the update folder, and new maps in the update/sgmaps folder of the main menu of the removable disk. To update the CityGuide program, place the map in the MMC slot and select the navigation option. If the navigation program was previously launched, it must be deactivated using the “exit” button.
The system offers 2 update options: full and maps only. It is recommended to select a full software update. If only maps are updated, then outdated information must be deleted before starting the operation. CityGuide updates take up to 30 minutes. After the update, you must exit the program. The navigation system will start automatically.
In order for up-to-date information about traffic jams to appear on the map online, you must perform the following actions:
- connect the Internet on your mobile device, making it a WiFi hotspot;
- add the phone to the list of available navigator devices;
- make sure CityGuide is connected to the Internet;
- In the navigator settings, select the “update traffic situation” option and activate it.
If everything is done correctly, traffic congestion indicators of different colors will appear on the map, indicating the average speed of movement on problem sections of the road.
Where to see coordinates
Review of the navigation service cityguide (cityguide)
In order to plot a route using coordinates, they must be entered into the program of the Lada Vesta multimedia system, but first you still need to know them. So, it's simple. We take the phone, open Google maps, point our finger where necessary, at the desired point, and hold until a red flag appears. The coordinates of the point indicated to you will pop up on the screen, and you need to show them to the navigator. Now let's talk about how to do this.

In the main menu, open the search, then select the “coordinates” section. We see two fields: latitude (N), longitude (E). Traditionally, coordinates are entered into CityGid in the form of decimal fractions. Enter the coordinates we already know and click “let’s go”
Please note that when entering coordinates, the letters N and E are optional
Voice prompts help you avoid distractions
Increased concentration is required on the road, but when using a navigator, there is often a need to be distracted by the screen. This is especially true for cities with high traffic, where a moment's inattention and looking off the road can have consequences.
To eliminate this problem, the cityguide program on the Lada Vesta is equipped with voice prompts: the voice notifies you in advance about turns in the route, when, what to do. This function makes driving a car safer and easier, since the driver does not think about how to avoid the turn he needs, but simply follows the instructions of the announcer.

Key words: cassette player Lada Vesta
On Vesta, the standard multimedia system (MMS) with a touch screen has built-in CityGID navigation. This navigation software provides the ability to reflect traffic congestion, road conditions and other factors that affect driving safety and speed. But first you need to configure and update CityGuide.
All questions regarding the operation of the CityGID navigation program should be addressed to the developer on the website probki.net. Here is the page for CityGuide updates on Lada Vesta, where you can find:
- Update guide _x000D_ To download files you need to log in to the site
- Guide to using navigation _x000D_ To download files you need to log in to the site
- Download the updated software version
- Download current software version
After updating the navigation program, it becomes possible to enable the display of traffic jams. To do this you need:
- Turn on mobile Internet on your phone and switch it to “Wi-Fi hotspot” operating mode.
- We connect MMS to the phone. To do this, in the CityGuide settings, in the “List of available networks” line, find your smartphone and enter the Wi-Fi password. Make sure the connection type is “Internet”. After this, the Internet indicator should light up on the main MMS screen (Fig. 2, item 1).
- In the CityGuide settings, click “Update traffic conditions”.
Let us remind you that there is a modified version of CityGID, which has a more convenient interface and understands cameras and ambushes. In addition, on MMS Vesta it is possible to use another navigation program, for example, Navitel.

There are only 2 submenus - search and settings. Accessing any menu item is now possible with just a few joystick movements.
Address search
When performing an address search, you always see a mini-map on the screen with a preview of the searched area. Just start entering the first letters of a country, city or street and the program will suggest the most likely options, as well as show their location on the mini-map. The found address can always be added to Favorites so that it can be reused in the future as a route finishing point.
Working with Favorites
CityGID supports working with frequently visited points. Any point from the “Favorites” can be designated as a finishing point or an intermediate point. Favorites are sorted by frequency of use, so your most frequently visited places will always be at the top of the list.

Error after updating CityGuide7 in MMS
Good day. Question about updating CityGuide software. Updated according to off instructions (https://old.probki.net/download/vaz/installation_guide.pdf) Archive with software from yesterday, from probki.net (https://old.probki.net/download/vaz/7_8_7_187.zip ) After the update, when loading CityGuide for the first time (and subsequent downloads too), a problem arose in the form of an error message: “The CityGuideCE.exe application has performed an invalid operation and will be terminated”
After this message appears, the touch screen refuses to work, CityGuide turns off, a black screen remains, or the radio switches to the screen. I updated for the first time by adding osm maps of Finland. I thought that this problem arose because of them. The second time I updated with clean software without third-party add-ons. The result is the same. This morning the navigation turned on and worked for about five minutes. After this an error appeared.
Maybe there is a simpler solution to this problem?
Downloading and installing maps in CityGuide
The folder with maps can be downloaded from the same site as CityGuide updates.
- The files need to be unzipped
- Find the CGMAPS directory in the Update folder
- Move there a folder called SpeedCam.bkm.
- Turn on the device and insert a memory card into it.
- Wait for the complete installation without interrupting the process.
- Restart MMS
The original CityGuide maps are not suitable for all drivers. Often they may be incomplete (especially in remote regions), out of date or not correctly reflect the situation on the road. The most common alternative is to install an OSM (Open Street Maps) map. This can be done without MMS firmware.
Installation steps:
- Download the CityGuide program. Or update it on the Lada Vesta to a version that supports Cgnet format cards
- Download OSM maps from the site cgmap-osm.ru (you need to download maps for SitGuide) Unpack the archive on your computer.
- We transfer OSM cards to the CGMAPS folder, which is located in Update. If native cards are not needed, you can delete them.
- Copy the Update to the memory card and transfer the data to the MMS (the navigator must be turned off)
- Turn on the application and select “Full update”. Before this, you need to manually erase all old cards if your version is older than 7.9.7.238. If the CityGuide on the Lada Vesta is new, you just need to click “Update”.
This simple installation is also good because it is very easy to remove without leaving any traces, so that the software does not void the warranty.
Cooling system Lada Kalina: features
The operating temperature of the Kalina engine is up to 103°.
If the temperature is higher, the engine overheats, which means that the driver and his car will face serious troubles: head deflection or (even more depressingly) water hammer.
Overheating of the motor is possible in a situation where one or another cooling element fails. At first, a light phase begins - during which the engine begins to boil.
The consequences may be even more severe. They are characterized by deformation and deflection of the cylinder head. In this case, the situation can be corrected by simply grinding the surface of the latter.
The middle phase is characterized by deformation of engine parts of the same valve mechanism. In the future, the above-mentioned part will require serious repairs: after all, repairing the cylinder head is quite a financially expensive matter.
The heavy phase represents destruction from the strong heat flow of the piston group. Still, this defect is not the worst thing you can expect. But if coolant gets into the car cylinders, the power unit of your car will quite naturally suffer a water hammer. And then a major overhaul may not help.
↑ Accuracy of operation
Despite the fact that the CityGuide navigator allows you to lay out routes quite well, you should not rely on it completely. The accuracy of the program depends on GPS/GLONASS signals, the quality of which may vary depending on environmental conditions. Because these systems are under the control of the US Government, WHA cannot be responsible for the availability or quality of the information provided. Making any changes to the operation of GPS and GLONASS software may affect the efficiency of CityGuide.
CityGuide data, like any other navigator, should not be taken as an unambiguous guide to action. The driver must be careful and act in accordance with the rules of the road, taking into account the current situation. In cases that require precise calculations of direction, distance and coordinates, a navigation system will not be enough.

Navigator interface
In the latest update of the citiguide navigation program for the Lada Vesta, the changed interface is pleasant compared to the old version. The stylistic design of the program has changed slightly, which has affected the comfort of work. The map takes up most of the display screen. Viewing streets and routes is not interfered with by other control buttons; they are compactly located along the edges of the screen. Time/date, GPS, Bluetooth and volume indicator icons are located at the bottom, tilt angle control buttons with scale are on the right. The navigation menu is located in the upper right corner of the display, and other function settings are located in the lower left. To minimize the program window, click on the button in the top left.
Navigation system interface
The navigator interface is pleasant and comfortable.
Most of the touch screen is occupied by a map, which displays streets with names, route numbers and all the information necessary for travel. The control buttons are located on the sides of the monitor and do not interfere with orientation and planning a route. They are located as follows:
- At the bottom of the screen there is a volume indicator, GPS and Bluetooth signals, as well as time and date
- On the right side there is a menu for controlling the map scale and its tilt angle.
- At the top there is a navigation menu, as well as a “collapse program” button
- Application function settings can be made using the buttons in the lower left corner.
To ensure that the driver is not distracted while driving, the program provides voice prompts warning about turns or other maneuvers and obstacles on the road.
In general, the navigator menu is simple and convenient and is easily perceived on an intuitive level.
Two ways to update CityGuide maps for Lada Vesta
On Lada Vesta multimedia systems (MMS), CityGID is used as navigation software. If you update cards according to standard instructions, the process may take up to 30 minutes. However, it is possible to install cards in a simpler way, which may be much faster and more convenient for you. Standard guide for updating cards Prepare an SD card. To do this, format it to the FAT 32 file system (with a standard cluster size). The card size must be at least 4 GB. Download the archive with software from the site https://probki.net/vaz. Unpack the contents of the archive into the root folder of the SD card. Make sure that the “Update” folder appears in the root of the SD card. Insert the SD card with the update files into the appropriate slot of the multimedia system. In the main menu of the navigation system, click on the “Navigation” button, the update process should begin automatically
Attention!!! If a navigation program was launched before the update, you must shut down the program before updating. To do this, in the “Navigation” mode, press the “Menu” button, then the “Exit” button and confirm exiting the navigation program by pressing the “Yes” button
Attention!!! The update process may take up to 30 minutes. You must wait for the update to complete. Once the update is complete, the multimedia system will automatically switch to Navigation mode. Then click on the corners of the window that opens in this order: top left edge top right edge bottom right edge bottom left edge Then select the “SYSTEM STATUS” section, a page with basic information about the system will open. All that remains is to click on the corners of the screen, departing from the edges about 1 cm. The sequence is the same: upper left edge of the screen upper right upper right lower left lower 4. Open “My Computer” (Start->Run->write “\” and press “Enter” ) 5. Open “SDMemory”, find the file with maps, click on it until the menu appears, select copy. 6. Go back (yellow icon on top), open “SDMMC” then “CityGuide” then “CGMaps”, press until the menu appears in an empty space of the window, select paste. Wait for the copying to complete. 7. Exit to the standard MMS menu by clicking the first tab in the tray. 8. Reboot the MMS by holding the volume button for a few seconds. After launching CityGuide, new maps will be installed automatically. The process is also shown in the video: Let us remind you that we previously told you how to make CityGuide show traffic jams.
CityGuide update
The navigator software needs to be regularly updated. The software provider periodically releases new versions of the application, with updated data and relevant information. You can download the latest versions of CityGuide from the official source probki.net. To update your navigator, you will need an SD card with a capacity of at least 4 GB, formatted in FAT 32 format.
The algorithm of actions is as follows:
- Registration on the official website of the manufacturer.
- Download the latest program update file.
- Unpack the downloaded information into the root folder of the memory card (a folder called “Update” should appear).
- Transferring a folder from a flash drive to the car’s multimedia system (there is a special slot for a memory card on the panel)
- After opening the MMC folder, you must select the “update maps” sub-item if you want to change only them, or “full update”, during which the entire program will restart along with the maps.
Updating the program usually takes about half an hour. During this time, you cannot use the multimedia system so as not to interrupt the information transfer process.
CityGuide for Lada Vesta
CityGuide Lada Vesta is a multimedia navigation system for the Lada Vesta car that meets all the standards of new generation navigation devices. Several ways to get directions
As in other navigation systems, the route in CityGuide is laid from the starting point to the finishing point. It is compiled taking into account the shortest and most convenient route, and also allows the driver to make his own adjustments if he needs to stop at a gas station, store or any other place along the way.
You can get directions using one of the following methods:
- By typing the name of a street or locality into the search bar;
- By selecting the name of the starting and finishing point from the list in the search;
- By pointing at a point on the touch screen by pressing your finger;
- Using history data (if you've been down this path before).

How does the multimedia system work?
Voice control is one of the main features. Also interesting is the typical Yandex interface, which is maximally adapted to the psychology of users. You won’t need to get used to the Yandex.Auto multimedia system for Lada Vesta for a long time, since it is built like widgets from a computer desktop. It is possible that you run several applications at once that work simultaneously without problems.
Which voice assistant do you think is the best?
AliceSiri
The main thing that captivates us about the Yandex.Auto system is the emphasis on the convenience of drivers. It is for them that the development was made. Let's look at the main functions and services built into the on-board computer.
Navigator
Allows you to see the optimal routes on a large screen. You won't have to strain to figure out where to go and ask the neighbor on the right for help. The system takes into account traffic jams and even repair work. It warns about the presence of cameras and road signs. Read more about the features of Yandex.Navigator.
Voice control with Alice
The well-known assistant Alice is a convenient alternative to managing services. Previously, it was necessary to take your attention from the road and adjust the necessary functions manually, which to some extent created the risk of an accident. Now it will be enough to give the voice command “Listen, Alice” and interact with the robot as quickly as possible. For example, you can dictate an address, give a command (find the nearest gas station or parking), or search for something on the Internet.
Music and radio
Convenient tuning of music and radio stations. It is even possible to select it to suit the mood or style of a certain era.
For everything to work well, you need an Internet connection, but routes can be easily built without it. You can always connect from your mobile device. However, in the future, in some cases, routers will be built in during production. Updates are downloaded while driving on the road.
Transfer route from phone
You can create a route in Navigator on the way to the car. To do this you need to use your mobile device. The display will show it immediately after you start the car.
See where the car is parked
If the car was left far from the place where you were going, it doesn’t matter. Searches will no longer waste precious time. The app will tell you where the vehicle is located.
Open a window or trunk
If you don’t want or have the ability to get the keys, give a voice command to Alice or use the corresponding function of your smartphone.
Start the engine from a distance
To save time on warming up your car in winter, you can now start the engine right from home while you're still getting ready to go out. However, the function is relevant at any time of the year. Cooling or heating is done via a smartphone and the Station.
Pay the parking fee
Yandex.Auto eliminated the need to worry about paying for parking. The system fully automates the process, accurately determining the location, price and writing off the required amount.
Find out about evacuation
If the car begins to be towed or moves for some reason, the system will send a corresponding notification.
Pay for refueling
Paying for fuel at gas stations has also become easier. This is especially nice in cold or rainy times, since you don't even have to leave the vehicle.
Determine location without GPS
If there is no signal, Yandex.Auto will not stop “understanding” the location of the car. The data will come directly from the wheels.
