How to open a locked car

Two everyday situations: you lost your car keys or the door was automatically closed by the security alarm system, but the key fob with the keychain remained in the ignition. There are 2 standard solutions to the problem: find or bring a spare set, or contact a car opening service. These methods are not always applicable, for example, on a long trip and away from large cities. Then try to get into a locked car using the available means described below.

Using a rope loop

The essence of the method is to capture the head of the locking button with a loop made of thin rope. It will be possible to carry out such an operation only on cars where the button has a more or less embossed shape, since it is almost impossible to grab a round plastic rod and lift it with a loop - the rope will begin to slip.

To open a car door without a key using this method, find a thin, strong rope or fishing line and tie a sliding loop at the end. Then proceed like this:

The rope grip must be inserted into the passenger compartment through the gap between the door and the body. To do this, carefully bend the upper right corner of the door using a wooden spatula.
Place the loop through the slot and wrap it over the lock button.
Pull the line a little to the side so that the loop firmly wraps around the rod.
Use light tugs to check that the grip is secure, then try to lift the button. If unsuccessful, try again, tightening the loop more.

The algorithm of actions is as follows:

Using pliers, bend the end of the wire to create a hook.
Using a screwdriver, remove the part of the window seal opposite the locking button.
Insert an improvised master key into the resulting gap.
Rotate it 90° around its own axis so that the end of the hook is inside the door cavity.
Gently pull up, trying to engage the button rod and unlock it.

Note. It will probably take you more than one attempt before you can get the pull. If the hook does not catch, remove the tool and bend it so that the end becomes longer.

Not all cars have door designs that allow the window seal to be removed and the wire to be inserted. Then it’s worth trying the option of bending the upper corner of the door and grabbing the button with a wire hook.

When the keys inside the car are stuck in the ignition and the passenger side window is slightly open, the problem is relatively easy to solve. Take a thick metal wire (about 3 mm) of the required length, make a hook and insert it through the slightly open glass to the ignition switch. Hooking the keys onto the ring and pulling them out of the lock is a matter of technique.

If there is no seizure when starting the engine, then most likely the spark plugs are flooded, in this case an additional function of our cars can help, namely, when the gas pedal is fully depressed, the controller stops supplying gasoline, due to which the cylinders are purged with air and excess gasoline is removed. Bend part of the rubber window seal away from the locking button.
Insert a ruler under the seal and push it inside the door.

Number one is to use a wire hook. The wire should be of medium hardness, approximately 60–70 cm long. Bend a hook with a length of approximately 7 cm at an angle of 45 degrees. The thickness of the wire should be selected so that it can penetrate between the seal and the door glass.

We push it under the glass in the area where the door handle is located. Then we use it to hook the door rod in the place where the opening button is located. Having hooked it, we pull the homemade hook up so that the pusher can rise. Additionally, the seal may need to be slightly bent. It’s so easy to open any car, especially a domestic one, in 10–15 minutes.

Another method is conventionally called the “rope loop”. It is suitable for those cars that have an internal button - it should protrude above the door panel at least a little. We bend the corner of the door a little, placing a piece of soft fabric. It will protect the paintwork from scratches and damage. You can even insert a small wooden wedge between the post and the corner, which will make it possible to insert a rope. By analogy with a rope, some drivers skillfully use fishing line. It will perfectly pass through the thickness where it will not be possible to insert a rope.

Restoring synchronization

Let's say the keys on the key fob were pressed 1000 times outside the system's coverage area. Then synchronization between the following devices is lost: the key fob and the central locking control module. If the power to the chip installed in the key fob is turned off even for a short time, this will also cause a loss of synchronization. The maximum time interval, as we found out from the reviews, is 6 seconds.

The instruction manual attached to the cars of the Granta and Kalina-2 family says the following: in case of loss of synchronization, the key fob is re-registered, that is, data about it is entered into the system memory. The recording procedure is quite complex, and to complete it you need a “learning key”. If synchronization is indeed lost, try this:

Turn on the ignition with the key you want to synchronize;
Wait 6 seconds;
The immobilizer lamp should start flashing, and then the ignition is turned off;
After 10 seconds the ignition is turned on again. If the immobilizer lamp does not blink, it means that synchronization has been restored.

Everything looks simple, but the specified sequence will not necessarily be effective.

If there is a “training key”, but there is not a single registered key with buttons, you can start the engine like this: turn the ignition on and off, the lamp begins to flash, then within 6 seconds the key is moved to mark II (starter).

Alternative methods of unlocking locks

Another good way to open a car equipped with a central lock. It is designed so that the first press on the inside door handle unlocks the door, and the next time it opens it. Again, we stock up on a piece of wire, but with a length of about 2 meters. We pass it through the upper corner of the door, bend it at the required angle and hook it onto the door handle. All you have to do is carefully pull the wire in your direction.

There are other alternatives to opening a car with the keys forgotten in it. We take a regular electric drill and carefully drill out the cylinder in the keyhole. But be prepared for the fact that after this operation you will have to change all the door cylinders in order to use one universal key. This is a more expensive method. Another extreme option is to pick up a metal object whose shape is somewhat similar to a car key. If you forcefully push it into the keyhole, you can forcefully turn the lock. Sometimes the role of such an object is an ordinary screwdriver. The larva, as in the previous case, will be damaged.

It may happen that the driver forgot the keys in the car, and there is no way to use the methods described above. Or there is no time and emergency door opening is required. In this case, the electrical package can perceive orders in two ways at once:

In the first case, having sensed the order to close, the immobilizer turns off the alarm and energizes the electric drive of the lock, closing or, conversely, opening the contact groups of the microswitch.

Then the latter, all the time the lock is locked, monitors whether an order has been received to open the doors.

Why is everything arranged this way? Everything is simple, because the command in this situation can be received not only from the key fob, but also from the switch if the car owner used the key. This allows the immobilizer, when the security alarm is activated, after detecting a raised blocker, to immediately begin to act according to the alarm protocol.

So, the biggest problem of the Priora is water getting inside the door. As a result, the contact groups of the microswitch quickly oxidize and become overgrown with verdigris, similar to moss. The volume of the working surface increases significantly and the contacts stick together. In addition, the oxides have fairly good conductivity. As a result, the passing tension is perceived as an order to unlock or lock the doors.

It is possible to get rid of such a malfunction only after replacing the blocker, or the microswitch itself.

About mechanical problems

A case where the driver's door closes and does not open, although you can safely exit through the passenger seats, indicates the appearance of mechanical defects within the structure. Common “illnesses” include broken rods and broken cables synchronizing the handles.
