On cars of the “tenth” family, a one-piece plastic “dashboard” is used, which includes control indicators, climate control and air ducts. Dismantling and disassembling the structure is necessary in cases where the instrument panel of the VAZ 2110 does not work, as well as for installing additional equipment and sound insulation.

What to do if the VAZ-2110 dashboard does not work

Owners of VAZ “dozens” have to deal with certain malfunctions during the operation of their iron horse. Some may take a few minutes to resolve, while others may take several days to resolve. It all depends on which part of the car has failed. There are many problems, including with the instrument panel. Alas, the build quality of Russian cars is often far from ideal, and virtually any unit or component can suddenly fail.

Common faults and solutions

Tidy "tens" with installed LEDs

The control panel may stop working for several reasons.

As a rule, removing the instrument panel is carried out for the following malfunctions:

  1. The backlight on the “tens” control panel stopped working. In this case, it is necessary to diagnose the condition of the contacts, as well as the condition of the wiring responsible for the suspension. The shield could stop working simply due to the combustion of safety elements, or the lamps could fail due to wear, often the cause is a short circuit. In principle, as practice shows, there are more than enough reasons, so sometimes identifying and solving a problem without a tester can be very problematic.
  2. One of the most serious problems for which a disassembled device may have to be replaced is complete failure. If there is a system failure, and all sensors and indicators on the dashboard stop working without exception, the controller arrows fall down, and the light bulbs simply do not light up. To eliminate the problem, you must first diagnose safety component number 15, it is marked as F6 and this part is located in the fuse block. If this component is burned out, then this problem can be solved simply by replacing it with a new one. However, first you need to figure out exactly what the reason for its burnout is. First, you should find and eliminate the cause, only then install a new element. As a rule, the cause of a blown fuse is a short circuit in the on-board network.
  3. The arrows began to spontaneously move up and down. This problem occurs quite often in domestic dozens; as a rule, the main reason is the problem of poor ground contact. Firstly, the ground wire is connected to a partition designed to separate the passenger compartment and the engine compartment. If you need to get to it, you will need to dismantle the audio system from its installation location; the quality of its fixation must be checked. Secondly, quite often during installation the mass is removed to another place so that it is more conveniently accessible. So if you have an anti-theft system, but there is no wire under the car radio, try looking for it under the trim, in particular, next to the driver’s left foot. Thirdly, the ground wire could have been damaged during installation of a new car radio. When the negative wire is connected, the ground wire must be unscrewed. Next, it is reinstalled, however, as practice shows, it is often less reliable than it was originally. As a result of vibrations that occur during driving, driving on uneven roads, including potholes and bumps, the mount begins to weaken over time. Accordingly, this leads to the contact being lost, and this, in turn, leads to the inoperability of the control panel. So, first of all, you need to securely fix the wiring, as this can cause certain difficulties in the future.
  4. Malfunctions related to the operation of the device itself. If you need to qualitatively check whether everything is normal with this device, dismantle it as much as possible from the installation site, but to do this, do not disconnect the wires that power it. First, the white wire marked X2 is diagnosed, which is connected to the first contact. In addition, using a multimeter, you should also diagnose the presence of voltage on pins 9 and 10. If the system is working properly, you will notice when diagnosing that the system voltage is 12 volts. We also recommend checking the back of the dashboard - all conductive tracks on it should be intact.
  5. As practice shows, the problem of the control panel not working is often caused by the failure of the cigarette lighter itself. This is because many car enthusiasts practice connecting various electronic devices and gadgets to this socket for various functions. For example, it could be a charger for a mobile phone, a tablet; the charger can also power a video recorder, radar detector, GPS navigator and other devices. Since devices of this type consume a large amount of current, the devices are often damaged by the cigarette lighter itself, and the problem of burnout of the F19 fuse element can also often occur. Accordingly, the control panel either turns off completely or continues to function, only incorrectly. If the fuse is working, you can try to disconnect the plug socket. If these steps do not produce any results, then simply replace the safety device.
  6. Tuning the dashboard of a VAZ 2110 is often the reason for its performance. The new shield may not have been installed correctly and is no longer working. Or, during installation of the device, not all wires were connected, or they could simply be bent. If the problem is in the wires, then replacing them will solve the problem (video author - LedStyle70).

In fact, most of the malfunctions that are associated with the operation of the control panel can often be resolved independently at home. Especially when it comes to the product of the domestic automobile industry - the “top ten”. But there are some things to consider here. If you do not have experience or knowledge in working with electrical and electronics, then you should not engage in independent repairs. It is better to contact a qualified specialist. Even if you pay money, you will be sure that everything will be done correctly.

Sorry, there are no surveys available at this time.

Start with the fuse

So, let's take a closer look at the situation when the instrument panel on a VAZ-2110 does not work (partially or completely), as well as possible causes and troubleshooting options. To do this, we first list the instruments and indicators available there:

  • tachometer;
  • speedometer;
  • fuel level and coolant temperature indicators;
  • 18 lamps – 6 panel lights and 12 control lamps;
  • reserve socket for control lamp;
  • 2 terminals for connecting wiring.

Regarding the latter, I would like to give a brief explanation on how to distinguish them on electrical circuits. In particular, the white block is designated as X1, the red block, respectively, as X2.

Another rather important point: VAZ-2110 cars can have one of two dashboard options. If it is an old model, then all devices are placed symmetrically. At the same time, the “Europanel”, in addition to the fact that it is more beautiful purely visually, is also distinguished by its coolant temperature and fuel level indicators shifted to the right.

If we talk about malfunctions of the VAZ instrument panel of the “tenth” series, then the most serious option is its complete failure, when neither the instruments, nor the indicator lamps, nor the backlight work. The first thing to do in such a situation is to check the 15-amp fuse located in the mounting block, marked F6.

If it turns out that it has burned out, it is best to immediately start looking for the root cause. Otherwise, the new fuse will most likely simply share the same fate as the old one. It can be damaged by a short circuit in the electrical circuit. If you lack the necessary skills, it is better not to waste time, but to hand the car over to a specialist who can not only detect the problem, but also fix it.

Prevention of breakdowns of electrical appliances

To prevent breakdowns of electrical circuits, you must follow a number of simple rules.

  1. Periodically check the contact connectors for oxidation or overheating. Rust disrupts the passage of impulses, which can be read by instruments as damage to the unit.
  2. Once a year, treat contacts with special oils. Lubricants prevent moisture from entering metals, which prolongs their service life.
  3. Replace dry wires in a timely manner. Cracked insulation can cause a short circuit.

The problem may be caused by a ground wire

Sometimes situations arise when the needles on instruments behave completely inappropriately, jumping sharply from the minimum to the maximum mark and vice versa. In the vast majority of cases, the cause of this malfunction is the lack of normal contact with ground. There is nothing difficult in fixing this problem. First of all, you should find the fastening of the ground wire connecting the instrument panel to the partition that separates the interior from the engine compartment. It can be detected by removing the car radio from its standard socket.

However, there is one caveat here. If an alarm was installed on the car, then the fastening of the mass wire could well be moved to some other place. However, as a rule, the car owner is warned about such actions. In most cases, the fastening of the mass wire is moved to the area where the driver’s left foot is located, placing it behind the interior trim.

Why is diagnostics needed?

Let's first figure out why we need to diagnose faults and whether this is required specifically for your car.

The main advantage of diagnostics is the ability to save money, time and modern nerves. If the car begins to behave inappropriately, some extraneous sounds appear, the stable operation of the engine is disrupted, then there are two options:

  1. To study all systems manually by dismantling and testing would waste a lot of time and nerves. The probability of finding the cause of the breakdown is far from 100%.
  2. Conduct computer diagnostics yourself by connecting a special adapter or cable to the computer. The program will scan the car and be able to issue the appropriate error codes. After studying our material with error codes, you can easily find the reason why the car began to behave abnormally.

Is it worth going to a service station?

The quality of diagnostics at a service station is often not much different from an independent check. Having an adapter and cable to connect the device allows you to deal with the problems of your own car without outside interference.

By contacting a service station, they can diagnose you with the same equipment, but they will only ask you for a decent amount of money. If you do not control the progress of the check yourself, technicians may claim to have found other errors that in reality do not exist.

The result of visiting a dubious service station for diagnostic purposes can be serious financial costs and a long absence of the car at your disposal.

The only option when it is worth contacting a car service center is the lack of diagnostic equipment and the presence of good friends among car mechanics.

Characteristics of panel types

The panel located in front of the driver, containing a set of warning lamps, is called a panel.

It has another name - torpedo and consists of the following components:

  1. The unit that records the speed of the car – the speedometer.
  2. A device that keeps track of the number of revolutions - a tachometer.
  3. Two indicators: coolant temperature and fuel level.
  4. Indicator lamps of different colors.
  5. Six separate lamps responsible for illumination.
  6. A number of backup sockets where lamps can be turned on.
  7. One red block. On the electrical diagram it has X
  8. Another white block, marked X

Europanel for VAZ 2110 Panel for VAZ 2110 old model
On the VAZ 2110 there are 2 types of dashboards: old model and Europanel.

The differences between them are as follows:

  • old panels have a symmetrical arrangement of devices;
  • In the Euro device, the fuel gauges and the amount of heating of the coolant are shifted to the right.

Traffic rules

According to the Rules of the Road, a driver in the dark is required to illuminate the side lights on his vehicle when moving. At this time, the instrument panel is also illuminated.

Causes and repairs

The left side parking lights and instrument panel lights are connected through fuse F1, and the right side lights through F11. Both are rated for 5 Amps.

Sometimes the backlight may not work. In this case, you need to check fuse F1, which is located in the passenger compartment on the driver's side in a special block. You also need to check fuse F11.

If the fuses are normal, you need to check all the wiring and lamps on the dimensions.

Removing the old and installing a new panel

The process of replacing a Europanel does not require inviting highly qualified craftsmen.

Accompanied by preliminary preparation:

  • battery power is turned off;
  • The steering wheel and the facing part of the column are removed;
  • sometimes the seats come out.

Removing the old panel

  1. The shields located at the feet of people sitting in front are dismantled.
  2. The curved plug is removed from under the handbrake;
  3. The window regulator cover is removed and the cigarette lighter connector is removed.
  4. The cover is removed from the gearbox lever. The air ducts going to the rear seats are removed.
  5. The plastic covers of the roof pillars are removed. The radio is pulled out.
  6. The plugs are removed from the top of the panel. The nuts that appear are unscrewed.
  7. Then the bolts located along the contour of the lower edge, as well as at the feet of the driver and passenger, are unscrewed;
  8. The mounting block is dismantled and the plastic casing is removed.

The cigarette lighter stopped working, what is the connection with the failure of the panel board?

Another reason for the instrument panel to fail is the cigarette lighter. The problem is that some motorists connect additional devices through this socket, in particular a car interior vacuum cleaner, an electric tire pump, or a cell phone charger. Considering that these consumers need high current, either the cigarette lighter itself fails, or fuse F19 blows, which is why the instrument panel fails. It is worth noting that the cigarette lighter can also be damaged by holding it in the on position for a long time. In such cases, you can make the instrument panel work by disconnecting the cigarette lighter connector, but if fuse F19 has not blown.

Bottom part

Let's look at the indicators at the bottom of the control panel. If they don’t light up, it means the machine is working normally, and when any of them lights up, this indicates a malfunction in certain components. Most often, this is a signal that repairs are needed, and the sooner the better.

From left to right:

  1. The indicator on the far left at the bottom is the air damper light (if you have a carburetor engine);
  2. Icon in the form of an oil can. If this light comes on, it means there is insufficient oil pressure in the engine. An alarming signal. You need to stop, find the reason;
  3. A round icon with the letter P inside on the control panel indicates that you have the parking brake on, which, as you know, should be turned off when moving away;
  4. Indicator of a fault related to the generator or battery (a symbolic image of the battery is shown on the indicator). Perhaps the battery is not charging from the generator, there is an open circuit, or the generator belt is loose or broken. In any case, your intervention and repairs are needed, otherwise troubles cannot be avoided;
  5. If the engine is running and the Check Engine indicator is on on the control panel, this is the most unpleasant thing for the driver, since it indicates serious malfunctions in the engine. In general, when this indicator lights up, it is recommended to stop driving and turn off the engine. Most likely it needs repairs;
  6. Typically there is a red triangle above the Check Engine. It lights up when the “hazard light” is on - an emergency signal sign;
  7. The headlight light indicates that the high beam is on. Designed to control headlights: when an oncoming car appears, do not forget to switch to low beam;
  8. A very important indication icon on the front panel (in a red circle) is a signal that there is not enough brake fluid. Perhaps it is leaking somewhere, which it is advisable to find out as soon as possible and, if necessary, carry out urgent repairs and replenish the level;
  9. The icon of a burning light is a control for turning on the dimensions;
  10. In addition to the indicated lights, the front control panel has time indicators (and a button for setting hours and minutes) as well as a display that shows the total and daily mileage. On the new panel, this display may be narrow.
