Lanos

Lanos cannot be called an extremely attractive car, but that is not its essence. By purchasing it, you can get good quality and comfort indicators.

It’s worth taking a closer look at all the advantages of this vehicle:

  • Profitable price. The car has an extremely competitive price. For 250,000-300,000 rubles you can get good technical characteristics that will fully satisfy the needs of most drivers.
  • Ease of operation. The presence of power steering allows you to better control the movement. The wheels respond perfectly to all the driver’s movements and fully comply with his commands.
  • High quality build. The body structure has extremely strong joints that can withstand high pressure. That is why this car can be used in our conditions, where temperature changes occur quite often.
  • Availability of components. As with any car in the economy segment, parts for Lanos are extremely easy to find on the modern market.

Differences

Cars that are assembled in the vast expanses of the former USSR are rarely reliable. Lanos and Priora were no exception. If the first one is more characterized by constant minor malfunctions, then the second one breaks down less often, but more seriously. Finding the right car service center in both cases is not difficult. However, problems can arise with spare parts for a Chevrolet: sometimes they have to be ordered abroad, which increases the time and cost of repairs. In this regard, Priora looks more profitable, although there is a risk of purchasing low-quality parts.

Slightly more powerful engines are installed on domestic cars. At the same time, they are more economical (8.2 liters per “hundred” combined cycle versus 9.3 liters for Chevrolet). In terms of dynamics, Lada is also ahead. At the same time, the Lanos suspension is better adapted to Russian roads, despite the foreign origin of the car.

The interior of a foreign car looks more attractive. Firstly, the Ukrainians managed to achieve higher build quality. Secondly, they receive the bulk of the components from foreign manufacturers, and all parts for the Priora are made in Russia, despite the fact that the auto industry has never been our strong point. At the same time, Chevrolet requires maintenance every 10 thousand kilometers. For Lada this figure is 15 thousand km.

How to remove the dashboard for sizing

Recently a guy asked how to remove the dashboard for sizing. I want to share my impressions about this process. Suddenly someone wants to do this too. So here it is. I removed the panel last summer. Also for sizing. I did everything alone. I’ll say this: you can remove/install it alone, but it’s very messy. It's easier with two people, but I don't think it's much easier. Don't believe the repair book, it's much more complicated than it says. Too much will have to be removed in addition to the panel itself: the central trim, air duct tubes, gearbox housing, handbrake housing, floor tunnel, passenger airbag (if equipped), A-pillar trims, tidy. There are a lot of different screws and self-tapping screws, during assembly it is easy to get confused as to which ones were screwed in where. If I'm not mistaken, there are 26 screws alone for securing the panel itself! There are two treacherous screws on the left and right right under the windshield, which you can’t unscrew with a regular screwdriver, you can’t get under them. While the panel is being removed, you are left without glass blowing, and in current weather conditions this is fraught with consequences, including an accident due to fogged windows. If you just park the car. In terms of time: removal took 3 hours, installation took 4 kopecks. The steering wheel gets in the way. The left air duct pipe did not want to fall into place, it rested either on the body or on the windshield, it took me a whole hour just to do this. According to the results: the panel became a little more assembled, but after a WEEK it began to crunch again. In addition to this, the airflow on the windshield has become uneven - it blows weaker in the middle than at the edges. I’m generally silent about the numerous scratches on the dashboard and front door trims. You can remove them with an autogen lighter, but still the appearance is no longer marketable. Summarizing all of the above, from the bottom of my heart I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND doing this. You'll only make it worse. But this is purely my opinion, and then see for yourself. Maybe if you have experience in this matter, it will be easier for you. But I wouldn’t do this again now for any money, there are too many body movements and nuances

Clones

The most significant drawback of the model is its low corrosion resistance. In addition, the water pump and stabilizer struts are not durable; over time, the seals of the steering rack and power steering pump, and the cuffs of the rear drums lose their tightness.

there is also a plastic instrument panel cover behind the steering wheel (with three bolts and from the right corner it is held on a clip with an iron holder, you just need to pull it harder and it will come out),

also, under the trim, the instrument panel itself was removed (it is secured with four bolts, you also need to pull out the wiring harness from it that holds a valve-type mechanism that needs to be moved down), the headlight hydraulic corrector was removed (more precisely, its fastening, the twister is simply pulled off stupidly and under it the head screws on a nut like 19), the headlight control unit (unscrews with one self-tapping screw), the glove compartment was also removed (it is attached to the top with two bolts, then two plates from the top are pressed and it falls down, then you just need to pull it off from the lower mounts) there is still a space above the glove compartment I also twisted the plastic plate (attached with 4 screws) and removed the plug from the top of the panel on the passenger side (from the second sunroof type airbag) (forged with a knife and tore it out), the floor tunnel was also removed, all the removed elements were vibrated,

I sealed the outside of the glove compartment with vibrato, also put a layer of splen on the inside, and tightened the top of the inside with madeline so that nothing would rattle in the glove compartment.

In general, I’m quietly disassembling the panel, at one time I check with the book so as not to miss anything, I unscrewed all the screws on the outer panels, about 18 of them, and I’m thinking about what to do next, I look in the book and it says, carefully lift the panel and use a long screwdriver, unscrew the screws securing the air ducts of the front windows, and that’s it..., the book doesn’t explain in more detail how to unscrew these fucking screws so carefully, in general, I’m trying to lift this panel, but it didn’t work out that way, it doesn’t lift much, and it’s almost impossible to put your hand to these screws I couldn’t get it through, I went to the computer, sat down, started looking on the net for how to twist them, again a bummer, on the net the same book was paraphrased from different sources, in general I walked around this panel for a long time, this way and that and still with great difficulty and with a small tear I was able to stick my rather small hands in, on the right side from the bottom, from the side of the glove box, I crawled up to this screw, unscrewed it with a little difficulty, but on the left side I suffered and more than once remembered the designers who made such fastenings in the inside of the panel, and where finally It’s not really possible to crawl up, why the hell do I do that, I thought, and still, with difficulty, I stuck both hands through, stuck my left hand from the left side from the end where the side panel plug goes, lifting the panel to the top as much as I could, almost with a tear, stuck my right hand under the bend the air duct between it and the stiffening pipe where the speedometer wire block sticks out, in general I stuck my hands in almost with a bang, and in the end, with a little pain, I unscrewed this self-tapping screw. after which, with a little effort, the panel was removed, I did not remove the central air duct, and without removing it, the panel already began to come out and came out. I glued the panel itself with a thin 2mm vibrator, in the panel itself I noticed a feature that on the panel itself inside there is a tunnel for the air duct to the windshield, and it is made as a separate part and I assume that this design can rattle, so the joints between this trim and the panel itself I also glued the panel with vibration

In terms of interior, Lanos turned out to be much better. Here you can observe refined lines that are combined with the status of a foreign car. The finishing uses plastic and artificial leather.
  2. Engines. Under the hood, Lada Kalina has a 1.6 liter petrol engine. and power 98-106 hp. Not a bad indicator for a front-wheel drive car at this price. Capable of accelerating to 168 km/h. Lanos is ready to offer its customers 1.5 liters. 86 hp engine It also comes with front-wheel drive and a five-speed transmission. Maximum speed 172 km/h.

  3. Remove the top panel trim by snapping 3 clips on each side;

In terms of capacity, both cars are generally adequate, but the “Korean” has only two body types: a sedan and a 5-door hatchback, while the “Samara” also has a three-door version of the VAZ-2113.

Regarding reliability and service, the question of choosing – Lanos or Lada – “stumbles” over two nuances. So, first of all, in the outback there is still an opinion that VAZs are easier to service and repair; they are not afraid to “spin” them in any garage cooperative. Unlike Lanos, which is still considered a foreign car, and which, in case of problems, has a direct route to a more or less decent service station. The second caveat is that the new owner of a Lada may face annoying minor troubles in the first year of operation: sensor failures, switch failures, etc. Lanosovods are not immune from this, but to a much lesser extent.

Finally, one more detail regarding the question of which is better. Many Lada Granta owners sometimes need to remove the central trim on the dashboard. The reasons for this may be different, such as eliminating unnecessary squeaks or installing a radio. Today I will tell you how to dismantle it.

Removing the center console of Lada Granta

Before starting work, I highly recommend purchasing a set of plastic spatulas for working with car plastic to avoid damaging the plastic with rough objects such as a screwdriver.

If such a set is not at hand, or it is not possible to buy it, then wrap the tip of a flat-head screwdriver with strong electrical tape or a roll of adhesive tape.

To properly dismantle the lining you need to perform a number of simple steps:

  1. Remove the head unit (car radio) and disconnect all connectors with wires from it. If you cannot remove the radio, you can leave it on the panel, but do not pull sharply when you snap off the cover. Remember, the wires for the radio are not that long.
  2. Pry off and dismantle the handles of the air temperature and air distribution regulators using a mounting spatula or a flat-head screwdriver.
  3. Remove the handle of the recirculation flap control lever. To remove it, simply pull it towards you.
