Instructions

  1. For an Android smartphone, download and install the ECU Tweaker application. We copy the ecu.zip archive to the root of the internal or external memory without unpacking it.
  2. Connect the ELM327 V1.5 adapter to the OBDII port of the car.
  3. Turn on the ignition.
  4. Launch the “ECU Tweaker” application on your smartphone

Preparation

What is cruise control and how does it work
? In my timid attempt to find out whether the highly respected official dealer would deign to install such a small thing on my car, and for what earthly goods in ruble equivalent, they waved me aside like a midnight ghost.

Thinking that I had become completely lazy after almost four and a half years of owning a foreign car, and that I would soon forget how to hold a screwdriver in my hands, I decided to do everything myself.

The cruise control kit consists of three parts:

— an electronic module that makes the decision to press the gas or release it;

— a vacuum servo drive, which, under the guidance of the mentioned unit, succumbing to the power of the mighty vacuum and atmospheric pressure, pulls the throttle valve;

- and a block of buttons that controls this entire structure.

There is also an inductive speed sensor, which is needed if the car does not transmit a speed signal. And also a bundle of wires connecting it all, and a bunch of all sorts of screws, dowels, pieces of iron and other trinkets necessary for installation.

All this gimmick is supplied with instructions in a bunch of non-Russian languages. Fortunately, my knowledge of English was sufficient.

The electrical connection to the car consists of screwing five wires into the required places:

- constant plus from the battery,

- wire going from the switch to the brake lamps,

— power supply, up to 3 amperes, connected to the ignition,

— mass (minus),

- and the wire to which the speed pulses should be sent.

The first two wires are simply screwed to the wires before and after the brake light switch. If the car has a manual transmission, then a reed switch is added to the break in the wire coming after the switch, which opens the circuit when the clutch pedal is pressed. This wire is always shorted to ground through the brake lamps. If the short to ground disappears, or it is shorted to “plus”, the cruise control will turn off. For cars with diode brake lights, this can be a problem because... diode lamps prevent short-circuiting to the housing (the problem can be solved by installing some load, for example, a small light bulb, in parallel with the diode brake lights). If for any reason the wire breaks, this will also disable the cruise control, which is very good.

The most difficult thing in this whole matter turned out to be choosing places where to install the above three devices. After lying down for a couple of hours in deep thought, armed with a diagram downloaded from the Internet for my self-propelled unit, as well as instructions for disassembling it, I set off to put all this together into a car.

You don’t have to drill anything at all if you remove the indicator through a suitable slot, which is what we did in the first experiments. It will do for a short time, but, in general, it’s a little undignified to do so.

  3. 5 pieces of wire 3 meters long with a cross-sectional diameter of 0.5 mm. But it’s better to buy a ready-made wiring harness so that connecting the multifunction steering wheel is convenient.

Tools and materials required to connect the multifunction steering wheel to the radio:

  1. Insulating tape.
  2. Several types of screwdrivers, nails and knitting needles. Such a tool may be required to remove the airbag.
  3. Torx bit T50 (TORX). The multifunction steering wheel is secured with a bolt with the same type and size of head. It is difficult to unscrew the bolt with another wrench.

Installing a multifunction steering wheel on Vesta “Lux” configuration is more convenient. It has wires for connecting the cruise control system, a “snail” (a switch under the steering wheel with wires for the buttons). This is easy to check. You need to remove the top half of the steering wheel cover and see what's there.

You can install the multifunction steering wheel on Vesta only with the ignition switch turned off. In addition, it is recommended to disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Otherwise, you risk short circuiting the wiring.

In addition to the listed functions, the Vesta multifunction steering wheel has a built-in airbag. There is also a standard beep. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to download music while driving on Vesta. Such a function is not provided here.

  4. You can return the previous settings by pressing the Res button (5). The car gradually accelerates after turning on the cruise control. If you need to accelerate quickly, you need to switch to manual mode.
  5. To turn off autospeed, press button 3.

The system has a pneumatic actuator that controls the throttle valve, so there is no need to step on the gas. A special cable is connected to the throttle valve. When cruise control is activated, it controls the fuel supply by replacing the accelerator pedal. The unit, thanks to information from sensors, maintains the set speed.

How to connect the multifunction steering wheel on Vesta “Lux”

Connecting the multifunction steering wheel in the luxury version of Vesta is more convenient. This configuration is distinguished by the presence of gray wires in the existing wiring harnesses.

It is clear that there is no real improvement and cannot be, since the gadget does not change the firmware of the “brains” of the motor. It only slightly changes the operating characteristics of the gas pedal: at the same accelerator position, more fuel is supplied to the engine, which is why it seems that the car drives easier and more dynamically. At the same time, the maximum speed and intensity of acceleration with the pedal pressed to the floor will not increase one iota. The same effect can be achieved without any jetters - just press the pedal harder. Note that such systems do not cause any harm to the engine - however, they do not bring any benefit.

Installing cruise control on a Lada Vesta Classic car

On Vesta cars in the classic configuration, you can install a speed control function. This is done by connecting a multifunction steering wheel, which has the necessary keys to control the program.

This additional equipment is connected in the following way:

  • Before starting work, disconnect the negative wire for safety reasons.
  • Remove the plastic steering wheel cover by screwing in two screws at the bottom and the airbag
  • Disconnect all wires and remove the steering wheel. It is pressed very tightly onto the cone, so it is not easy to remove
  • We put on a new steering wheel and connect the wires back.
  • We pull three cruise control wires through a special hole above the pedals and insert them into the block of the electronic control unit, which is located in the engine compartment
  • We connect the wires according to the diagram:

To carry out such a conversion, you need to buy several spare parts, namely:

  1. Multifunction steering wheel or steering wheel pad with buttons
  2. “Snail” as in the Lux package
  3. Wires with chips to the ECU

A set of these parts can be purchased in specialized stores. The estimated price as of August 2022 is 9,000 rubles. If you want cruise control data to be displayed on the dashboard, you need to flash the control unit, which will cost about 2,000 rubles.

Luxury package

The Luxury package is the top version of Vesta 2022, and accordingly it is equipped noticeably richer than its junior versions, but it can also be equipped with a Multimedia package.

What is included in the Lux package

The Luxury has a case for glasses, illuminated entry and exit points in the doors, power windows for the rear windows, a heated windshield and rain and light sensors.

From the exterior, it is worth noting fog lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, a black lacquered radiator grille and glossy black door frames.

INSTALLATION AND CONNECTION

Remove the plug between the headlight range control and mirror adjustment. Behind it there is a connector with wires, which we connect to the button (255500002R). Install a button instead of a plug.

We replace the Lada XRAY steering wheel with a steering wheel from Lada Vesta (8450006832), but leave the right block of buttons from the crossover (from Vesta it will not work). The main reason for replacing the steering wheel is the presence of wiring inside it.

As a result, the cruise control and speed limiter will be activated from a button on the panel (these buttons on the steering wheel will be inactive, since they are not fixed!), and the functions will be controlled by buttons on the steering wheel. To have all the controls only on the steering wheel, you need to use a fixed button emulator (read below).

ACTIVATING A FUNCTION IN THE ECU AND INSTRUMENT PANEL

You need an “ELM 327” adapter and a laptop with the software installed:

  • drivers for ELM (we register the COM port)
  • Python
  • Pyren and CLIP base

We connect the ELM 327 to the OBD-II connector of the Lada XRAY. Then:

  1. Run pyren.bat (make sure that the COM port of your adapter is specified in the file)
  2. Scroll (using the N button) the list down until we see “logan 2/ sandero 2”, press the numbers against this inscription and enter.
  3. Select the block -> INSTRUMENT PANEL (P/PAN), -> Changing Configuration -> ADJUST/LIMIT. SPEED —> yes —> 2—> yes.
  4. The instrument cluster will reboot.
