Why does the whistle occur?
There are several reasons why the characteristic whistle-like sound occurs.

- GATES - often also a factory option
- Bosch - has a fairly wide range of products, including belts, and the quality is quite high

Performing tension
If there is no wear on the V-belt drive, but there is a whistle, first of all, check the tension level. We will not use complex terminology, but will simply advise you to press with some force on the belt in the middle.
If the tension is done correctly, then the belt will bend no more than 8 millimeters. If the deflection is greater, then the element will have to be tensioned, and if it practically does not deflect, the tension will have to be loosened.
The problem is not the whistling. Due to weak tension, the battery does not charge effectively, and the drive itself begins to wear out faster. Excessive tension can lead to damage to the alternator bearings and stretching of the belt.
Correct tension of the VAZ 2110 generator belt is performed as follows:
- Loosen the generator from the bottom and top. A nut is used for this;
- Turn the adjusting bolt and adjust the belt;
- If you want to increase the tension, the bolt is turned to the right. Thus, you move the generator away from the cylinder block;
- To loosen the tension, move in the opposite direction - to the left;
- Use a wrench to grab the fastening bolt and turn the crankshaft a couple of turns, then check the tension;
- If all is well, the tension is correct, the nut can be tightened back.

VAZ-2112 consists of covers - front and rear. They are made of aluminum alloy and have special sockets where bearings are installed. On the back cover there is a terminal that is used to connect the battery. It also has a connector. Through it, voltage is supplied to the excitation winding. The core cylinder in this generator is made of transformer iron. Inside it there are special grooves in which the winding is neatly laid. Also on the cylinder there are leads for connection to the rectifier unit. The covers are screwed to the stator using bolts. The shaft, which acts as a rotor, has an excitation winding. It is connected to copper rings. A special groove is made at the front end of the shaft, which serves to install the drive pulley. The brushes are made in one piece, which is combined with the generator relay. It is housed in a durable metal case and securely attached to the brush holder. The back cover inside holds the diode unit - it includes 6 main elements and three additional ones. Replacement
We have already figured out how to tighten the alternator belt. But such measures are not always relevant. If the element is cracked, overstretched and no longer tensioned, then there is nothing left to do but replace it with a new one.
In fact, replacement cannot be called a complex procedure. Follow the instructions and everything will work out.
- Slightly loosen the bolt nut from the lower mounting of the car generator, as well as the tension nut.
- Loosen the tension of your belt further. You already know how to do this from the previous section, where we talked about tensioning the alternator belt.
- Move the generator towards the power unit, which will allow you to remove the belt from the crankshaft and generator pulleys.

The rotor, whose main task is to create a magnetic field, is a shaft on which the excitation winding is located. Each half of it is placed in special pole parts. The slip rings supply current to the winding. The rotor rotates due to a belt drive from the drive. The stator consists of a core and a winding. Here, alternating current is generated, which is sent through the rings further along the electrical network. However, it must first be removed from the frame. In order to supply current to the rings, a brush assembly is used. Then comes the rectifier unit, which converts the alternating sinusoidal voltage generated by the generator. In different cases, different circuits for connecting the excitation windings are used. For example, another separate pair is applied. Current simply cannot flow through the battery if the engine is not running. When connecting the winding in a star configuration, you can increase the generator power by 15%. The generator relay maintains the voltage of the device within the specified limits. It changes the frequency and duration of electrical current pulses. A relay is a set of several sensors and actuators. Their task is to determine how long the field winding should be in the network. If the relay is faulty, then an unstabilized voltage will be supplied to the battery.
Alternator belt: choice of brand and length
