AvtoVAZ equips modern Lada cars (Granta, Kalina, Priora and Vesta) with standard push-button radios, and in the top version (Luxury trim levels) with more modern multimedia systems (MMS) with a touch screen. In this article we will tell you how to connect an amplifier and subwoofer to the standard radio and MMC of Lada cars.

Connectors for the standard radio and MMC Lada

It doesn’t matter which standard radio is installed in your car, a push-button with catalog number 2190-7900010-20, 2190-7900010-40 or MMC with numbers 2190-7900010-00, 2192-7900200 or a Vesta radio.

All devices have the same ISO and mini-ISO connectors on the back.

The amplifier can have two groups of inputs:

  1. linear
  2. high level input

We make the connection according to any of the schemes proposed below.

Features of installing a radio on a Lada Priora

As a rule, installing a radio on a Priora involves several types of audio players:

  • 1 DIN;
  • 2 DIN.

2 DIN media player for LADA Priora

These designations indicate the dimensions of the hole for installing the radio, which correspond to the dimensions 180x50x160 mm for 1 DIN and 180x100x160 mm for 2 DIN. If you want to install a more modern version of a 2 DIN radio, the car owner will have to carry out the procedure of sawing the partitions of the front console of the car in order to widen the hole for the player. In some cases, to adjust the dimensions, it becomes necessary to cut out or purchase an appropriate transition frame for the console, which is much more difficult than installing 1 DIN.

If you nevertheless decide to install a 2 DIN system, then it is best to entrust the installation work to an experienced specialist, otherwise there is a risk of damaging both the console itself and the car interior trim.

It should also be noted that 2 DIN standard radios have an extensive range of functions:

  • long service life thanks to shock-resistant housing;
  • paired amplifiers increase signal reception several times;
  • the ability to switch the frequency of the radio signal by all passengers in the car thanks to the Music Zone system;
  • function of built-in radio navigator;
  • built-in USB connector allows you to connect external devices to view and play files;
  • the presence of a bass amplifier for music for higher quality sound.

Connecting the amplifier to the radio via the ISO connector

We connect the amplifier through the high-level input to the radio (speaker output).

  • Connecting an amplifier and subwoofer to the Granta/Kalina 2 radio

This connection method is suitable for the average user. Music lovers are not satisfied with this method due to the large number of circuits between the radio and the amplifier (pre-amplifier, radio amplifier, external amplifier voltage divider, power amplifier), which introduce their own distortions.

Removing the device according to the instructions

The algorithm for removing the radio if you have the keys is outrageously simple. It is worth considering in order to understand how to act if they are lost. The order is as follows:

  1. Remove the front panel of the player and the decorative plastic frame, prying it up with a flathead screwdriver if necessary.
  2. Insert the first key into the gap between the housing and the mounting frame, located at the end. You should feel slight resistance as the tool bends the latch.
  3. Repeat the same action with the second key.
  4. Grasp the radio with your hands by the protruding parts on the sides of the case and carefully remove it from the niche.

To remove the radio, 2 keys are used

Advice. There is no need to apply much effort, the device should be removed quite easily

At the end, act carefully so as not to yank the wires again and break the contact.

Special keys must be inserted into the side openings

When the radio is equipped with four latches, access to them is through 2 pairs of round holes. You need to insert 2 U-shaped keys into them and pull them out by the body, as described above.

The music center can be easily removed using keys

Connecting the amplifier to the radio via the mini-ISO connector

To implement this amplifier connection scheme, you will need to find a mini-ISO connector, which should be connected to an empty slot on the back of the standard radio of Lada cars.

It is further recommended to use high quality shielded wires.

The main advantage of this connection scheme is high sound quality.

How to install a head unit on a car with basic equipment?

Since the Lada Granta base is not equipped with musical equipment, and only a push-button radio is installed on board, the question justifiably arises: how is the standard radio installed in the cabin? In reality, this is a simpler procedure than it might seem at first. The occurrence of problems during installation is excluded, since a seat is already provided for the standard device on the Lada Granta panel, regardless of the level of equipment.

You can purchase the device in a retail chain or on an Internet site, where you can actually find an improved version, equipped with a navigation system with a detailed map of the Russian Federation. Don't forget to buy an additional luxury panel. Although multimedia will fit into the standard panel without any problems, the appearance will not be so beautiful. The price for this device reaches 2.5 thousand rubles.

Next comes the installation of the radio. The design feature of the landing niche in the Grants panel does not provide for the need for additional wiring.

  1. The first step is to remove the plastic pocket in the audio system opening. This is done using a flat-profile screwdriver. There is access to several connectors that involve connecting a radio.
  2. We remove the frame from the head unit and fix it at the location of the pocket.
  3. Next we move on to the connection. To do this, connect a couple of connectors and install the device in the landing niche.
  4. After this, you can install the speakers in the front door cards. The procedure involves the need to dismantle door trims with unlocking handles and adjust the position of the glass. Using a special template, we begin cutting out the mounting holes.

We attach the speakers to the cards using self-tapping screws. We insert the cables from the speakers into the input connectors intended for this on the rear panel of the car radio. We install the decorative door panels in their original places and evaluate the sound provided by the standard head unit. Thus, the radio is connected.

Why do you need to adjust the valves in the engine?

Installing speakers in a car

In addition to the radio itself, you will need to correctly place and connect the audio speakers.

Installation of the rear and front speakers is carried out according to the same scheme. To do this, you will need to cut openings in the door trim, so for ease of installation you need to remove them. The upholstery is removed in the following sequence:

  • the door handle is removed;
  • The plastic casing under the handle is removed;
  • the adjusting handle for raising the glass is removed (only for Lada Granta Standard).

The stock upholstery has 16 cm diameter openings that are specifically designed for speakers. Certain difficulties may arise if you decide to install speakers of other sizes.

For speakers with a diameter of 13 cm, you will need to cut out the central plug in the door trim. The layout diagram is included with the speaker kit. Having understood the intricacies of a particular model, you will have to slightly increase the plane of fastening of the tongues, since standard openings are larger.

Speakers on the rear parcel shelf of a car

Speakers with a diameter of 16 cm are most often easy to install, but sometimes the sizes do not match. In this case, it is necessary to adjust the metal opening allocated for installing the speaker using an electric jigsaw

After each adjustment, be sure to try on the column, as it is very important not to overdo it in this matter.

After successful installation, you will need to connect power and check the functionality of the speaker. Then you can install the door trim back. A protective grille is placed over the column, which must be secured with self-tapping bolts.

Connecting the amplifier to the standard radio

Connecting the amplifier to the standard radio of most cars is carried out in the following order:

  1. Before starting work, be sure to disconnect the battery terminals.
  2. A red +12V wire is pulled from the battery to the amplifier. A fuse should be installed as close to the battery as possible.
  3. The black wire (ground) is connected at one end to the metal part of the body, and the other to the amplifier.
  4. The amplifier is connected with special wires to the speakers and subwoofer.
  5. Wiring is laid from the radio to the amplifier using special connectors on the radio. It should be located separately from the standard wiring to avoid interference.
  6. You only need to attach the terminals to the battery after the installation is complete.

The amplifier is located in the passenger compartment or trunk of the car. If it is located in too narrow a space, additional cooling will be required, since the amplifier gets very hot during operation.

In this way, the amplifier is connected to the radio of a Lada Priora, Grant, as well as Kalina 2, Lancer 10 and many others. Differences appear only in the last point, since the radios have different connectors. The connection is made through the radio connectors marked ISO or mini-ISO.

Since different radio models have different connector locations, before installing the amplifier, you need to familiarize yourself with the diagram of their location. It can be found in the receiver's instruction manual.

MMS revision process

We remove the radio and unscrew the cover, turning the screws out into view. Next, we take out the audio system board and find on it the amplifier chip (circled in red) and the amplifier power capacitor (circled in yellow), which is located nearby.

1. Solder the microcircuit by first removing the metal casing and bending the lower ears. It is more convenient to do this using a hair dryer (25 legs in total, which are soldered with lead-free, refractory solder). Next, we clean the holes in the board and solder the purchased microcircuit and install the metal casing. Apply thermal paste.

2. Solder the capacitor (don’t forget that it is polar). We install the new one in a lying position, because its dimensions are much larger than the standard one. We solder a film capacitor on the back of the board.

Additionally: We change preamplifiers in a similar way.

As a result, the radio/MMC has a huge power reserve. Now you can listen to music at higher volume levels with virtually no distortion. In addition, the sound became cleaner.

Let us remind you that there is an easier way to improve the sound quality of music, for example, install an amplifier or flash MMC with a different version of the menu and equalizer.

The standard radio for the Lada Granta model is an improved device, the design basis of which is the “Sirf Atlas” processor, supplied by the well-known. In addition to the presence of a radio receiver, the device is equipped with a large touch screen and has the ability to connect an external source via a video input by replacing the software and performing firmware. However, in the basic configuration of a domestic car there is only a push-button radio. Many owners are not happy with this fact and want to connect a more modern radio. This article will tell you how to install a radio.

Overcoming resistance, we pull the lid towards ourselves - the glove compartment is removed.

Step 5. Using a flashlight, we climb under the panel in the area of the front right passenger's feet. Behind the felt on top we find a thick black wire - at its end there is a plug for the factory antenna.

We extend the plug to the installation location of the radio.

Step 6. Install the metal slides for the radio. Use a screwdriver to bend the fastenings of the slide at the top and bottom to ensure secure fastening.

Step 7. Connect the power connectors, speakers, antennas to the radio. We insert it into the slide all the way. We attach a decorative plastic frame.

What to do if the length of the wires and antenna is not enough

To get by without extending the wires, you will have to suffer:

Disadvantages of the method: we spend a lot of time, the process is dreary and inconvenient. We'll probably rip off your wrist.

Plus: there is no need to build up wires, which will then interfere with the installation of the PG, resting against the back wall.

Installation of 1 din radio in Grantu standard and norm

What is needed to install a radio in a VAZ 2190:

  • The radio itself is also the head unit;
  • flat screwdriver;
  • Straight arms.

In the article we consider only the installation of the GI. Read how to install speakers here.

Abbreviations and symbols in the text:

  • GU – head unit;
  • MMS – multimedia system;
  • DIN (din) – installation size for acoustics in a car.

Step-by-step instructions for installing the head unit

Required:

  1. a narrow flat screwdriver or plastic spatula for installing acoustics;
  2. 1-din radio with frame.

The seat in Grant is designed for 1 din. To work with large 2-din sizes, you will need to cut out the partition and install a decorative frame.

Step 1. Using a flat-head screwdriver, remove the plastic plug for the radio. To do this, carefully pry it around the edges and pull it towards you.

The placeholder for the radio is installed from the factory.

Step 2. On the back of the plug there is a mount for ISO connectors. There are two connectors: music power and wires for the speakers.

When connecting the pads, you can’t confuse them - they have fastenings of different shapes. 8 wires at the speaker terminal. The second power connector.

Step 3. If necessary, connect an adapter for your radio to the ISO. Usually it comes included.

If an adapter is not needed, proceed to step 4.

If an adapter is needed for acoustics, it is included in the kit. Example in the picture.

Step 4. Remove the glove compartment. Holding the glove compartment clamps in the upper position, forcefully lower the glove compartment down.

Overcoming resistance, we pull the lid towards ourselves - the glove compartment is removed.

Removing the glove box on a Grant is easy when you know where its latches are located.

Step 5. Using a flashlight, we climb under the panel in the area of the front right passenger's feet. Behind the felt on top we find a thick black wire - at its end there is a plug for the factory antenna.

We extend the plug to the installation location of the radio.

Here we are looking for the antenna wire.

Step 6. Install the metal slides for the radio. Use a screwdriver to bend the fastenings of the slide at the top and bottom to ensure secure fastening.

These fasteners secure the slide into the panel opening.

Step 7. Connect the power connectors, speakers, antennas to the radio. We insert it into the slide all the way. We attach a decorative plastic frame.

If you plan to install an amplifier, you must first stretch the wires under the panel and bring them to the installation site of the power unit.

What to do if the length of the wires and antenna is not enough

To get by without extending the wires, you will have to suffer:

  1. We put our hand under the panel in the glove compartment area;
  2. We put the radio in the slide and connect it to the plugs;
  3. We blindly connect the power, the connector for the speakers, the wires for the amplifier, and the antenna.

Disadvantages of the method: we spend a lot of time, the process is dreary and inconvenient. We'll probably rip off your wrist.

Plus: there is no need to build up wires, which will then interfere with the installation of the PG, resting against the back wall.

If, after installing the acoustics, the alternator belt begins to whistle, the solution to the problem is here. As you can see, immediately behind the GU in Grant there is a vertical partition, which greatly interferes with blind installation.

If the radio tape recorder dangles in the slide and rattles

It happens that the acoustics hold weakly in the sled, although they sit firmly. Solving the problem:

  1. Using the keys for dismantling (included with the control unit), remove the radio;
  2. We take a small piece of vibroplast (resin-based foil) and glue it onto the slide from the inside, top or bottom - this way we will ensure that the tape recorder is completely pressed against the slide without unnecessary vibrations;
  3. Once again, use a screwdriver to press down all the fastenings of the slide: some might have been under-tightened;
  4. We put the acoustics back and check - all unnecessary vibrations during shaking should disappear.

Vibroplast helps not only with soundproofing a car.

Speaker in the car door

First of all, you will need to dismantle the plastic pocket that covers the compartment for the stereo system. Use a screwdriver for flat type screws. When the pocket is removed, you will see that behind it there are special sockets where ISO plugs from the future speaker system will be placed.

After this, you need to remove the protective metal frame from the radio. We install it in the vacated opening under the plastic pocket. Successful fixation of the equipment is usually accompanied by a characteristic click.

Now you will need to connect the plugs in accordance with the existing ISO standard, to which the electrical wiring of all international format radios meets. Incorrect connection of the audio system connectors can lead to malfunction of all electrical devices in the car, including the radio.

It is worth noting that many car radio manufacturers make individual connectors for them. In this case, the kit almost always includes a special adapter for ISO standard plugs. If your radio does not comply with the ISO standard and does not come with an adapter, you can consider cutting the wires from the radio plugs or from the car's electrical wiring. After this, you will need to properly solder the wires in accordance with the color pinout.

It is strictly not recommended to resort to simply twisting the wires with adhesive insulating tape. This type of connection is impractical, since in winter the tape freezes and cracks, which can cause the wiring to short out and electrical appliances to fail. For a high-quality connection, you can use terminals that are designed for clamping wires.

ISO standard connectors are prepared only once. After this, you will not have to deal with selecting plugs and pinouts when installing a new radio. This procedure should take no more than 3 minutes.

The ISO standard uses 2 types of connectors: brown and black. The first is intended to ensure the operation of all the acoustics of the car. The second is for special functions of the stereo system and its electrical power supply. The pinout diagram for ISO is shown in the figure.
