This indicator is very important in AvtoVAZ cars. After all, many should remember that in previous models, corrosion on the metal appeared even before the car’s warranty expired. Now, the domestic manufacturer promises that all problems associated with corrosion are a thing of the past. He informed us that strict requirements are imposed on the quality of Lada X-ray painting. Here are some of them:

Resistance to various weather factors, which are expressed in temperature changes, high humidity, etc.
Resistance to mechanical irritants: dust, pebbles, sand, etc.
High level of resistance to aggressive substances (chemicals, insects, etc.).
Easy body wash.

The quality of the coating is the same as in many modern cars painted by robots - there are no jambs such as shells, dust or hair

Compared to previous years, the paint layer was from 60 to 100 microns. And if we talk about the body x ray, then the coating layer is equal to 160 microns. As you can see, this indicator indicates that the quality of painting has become at least twice as good.

Engine characteristics

As for engines, the Lada X-Ray still has the advantage. The manufacturer offers a choice of 3 engines at once, which cannot be said about the Lada Vesta, since there is no choice here, and only one engine is offered.

If we talk about general features, then for both cars a domestic engine of the VAZ-21129 series is produced. Engine power is 106 horsepower. The unit has a reliable and simple design: 4 cylinders and 16 valves, as well as a distributed fuel injection complex.

The Lada Vesta can be accelerated to 100 km/h in 11.2 seconds, the X-Ray in 11.4 seconds, despite such a small power.
As for the maximum speed, the difference is small. X Ray overtakes Vesta by 1 km/h (176 versus 175 km/h).
Fuel consumption also has a slight difference: Vesta - 9.3/6.9/5.5 liters, X-Ray - 9.3/7.2/5.9 liters.

However, Lada X-Ray can offer its customers several more engines with 110 and 122 horsepower. The first option reaches speeds of up to 184 km/h and has a volume of 1.6 liters. The second one is a little more powerful: the maximum speed here reaches 186 km/h, the volume is 1.8 liters. As for fuel consumption, it is almost the same for both cars.

In order to finally consolidate the success of the Lada X Ray, the developers tried to very competently choose the color scheme. If we talk about the original colors of the car, they look very bright, rich and fresh. Due to their non-traditional colors, cars of this model are recognizable among the general traffic flow.

Today, there are seven main color styles in which the hatchback is produced.

White called "Glacial";
Bright red;
"Black Pearl";
Grey-beige “basalt grey”;
Silver beige “platinum”;
Dark brown “Puma” (popularly the color cashmere);
Bright orange "Fresh".

Undoubtedly, of all the options, the elite color “Fresh” stands out, which is available as an additional paid option for the package and costs 19,000 rubles. The English translation, which means “freshness,” emphasized the novelty of the implemented project.

Another color was dark brown metallic (265), original for new X-style cars. It was called “Puma” and is somewhat unusual for the Lada paint palette. The car was presented in this color at many exhibitions and presentations.

From the above, we can conclude that this time AvtoVAZ decided to yield to all its principles and not produce a car in traditional green or blue colors. So, for example, “Glacial” or “Platinum” colors have a more practical appearance. But “Black Pearl” is suitable for those who put solidity and elegance in the first place. Women preferably choose “Fresh” or bright red color.

As you can see, even among the not so wide variety of colors, there is one for everyone that will satisfy the necessary needs.

E - Riding

The French Renault JR5-523 gearbox is not distinguished by clear shifts.

Thanks to such extensive improvements, the XRAY Cross drove completely differently. The steering wheel has acquired a super-clear zero, the removal from which requires the application of significant force, while the return action sometimes seems almost excessive. But I like the character of the steering wheel: it makes the driving process delicious. At the same time, Lada holds a straight line perfectly and does not show nervousness in a rut. At some moments, I even caught myself that I liked the handling of this Xray more than that of the Vesta Cross, which I left in the garage while going on a business trip to Kazakhstan. And the pseudo-crossover rolls extremely moderately, even despite the higher landing compared to both Vesta and the regular Xray.

The ride quality improves as the road gets worse. On smooth asphalt, small high-frequency tremors are almost constantly felt, but the crossover rushes along a broken grader with an steadfastness worthy of a classic Niva. The energy intensity is almost prohibitive: on a very conventional road laid in the steppe, the XRAY Cross allows you to maintain a speed of about a hundred according to the speedometer and not let off the gas in front of very serious potholes.

I also tried various modes of the Lada Ride Select system and was overall satisfied. The Sport mode adds liveliness to the car's response to the accelerator, and the engine is in no hurry to slow down when releasing the gas, allowing it to be picked up by the next gear.

I tested the “sand” mode in the steppe, after leaving the main road; however, here it was easier to feel the operation of the electronic differential lock, which turned out to be truly effective: when hanging up, the stabilization system “bites” the wheel free of traction with the ground and still pulls the car from its place.

And the next day it was the turn of the mode for driving in the snow, when the Kazakh skies opened up and dropped a sufficient amount of material for experiments on the ground. If on the sand the electronics allow a certain amount of wheel slip, then the winter mode turns out to be the strictest: it strangles the engine even more diligently than by default and does not allow even the slightest slip. And the system works: on a climb, the “snowflake” on the selector adds confidence when starting from a standstill.

Body coating thickness

Now it’s worth taking a closer look at the thickness of the body covering. Only high-quality paint can prevent premature corrosion of the metal and aging of the car as a whole. In addition, the body coating affects the aerodynamics of the car. Today AvtoVAZ uses only paint that fully complies with all European standards.

Let us remind you once again that previously the domestic manufacturer used a paint coating with a thickness of no more than 100 microns. Today this figure has increased by 60 units and is 160 microns.

Anti-corrosion galvanizing coating can be applied to a car in several ways. The first is thermal, the second is hot method. Moreover, the galvanized alloy, in the first case, covers the car body even at the moment when it is on the production line.

In the hot-dip galvanizing option, galvanizing of individual parts is used. The metal parts of the car are lowered into a special bath with a zinc solution. It is there that, under the influence of electrodes, zinc particles are layered onto the metal. There is also a third method, in which only small parts of the body are processed.
